Monterrey, Shocker/Bucanero, Sombra injury, Dorada to Perros

indy (TUE) 03/09 Arena Aficion [Estrellas del Ring]
2) Maldito Jr. & Samot b Brazo Metalico & Chico Che
3) Trauma I & Trauma II b Hermano de la Muerte I & Hermano de la Muerte II
4) Apolo Estrada Jr., Puma King, Tiger Kid b Guerrero Maya Jr., Orux, Semental

1st/2nd match CMLL wrestlers have been showing up here of late, as well as early IWRG guys. In this main event, the Cats got the pins on Maya and Orux for the win, which led to some mask challenges.

LMLL (TUE) 03/09 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Zodiaco b Neurosis
2) Dranser & Scravos b Gemelo Muerte I & Gemelo Muerte II
3) Erick el Rojo, Gato Fantasma, Silver Star b Furor, Galactar, Koko Viper
4) Golden Boy, Lover Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo b Androide, Corazon Adicto, Raiden, Rey Sagitario
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. DQ Estrella Dorado Jr., Hator, Monje Negro Jr.

Dueling fouls in the main event.

CMLL (TUE) 03/09 Arena Mexico [Fuego en el Ring, CMLL]
1) Disturbio & Zayco b Rayo Tapatío II & Súper Camaleón
2) Dalis la Caribeña, Lady Apache, Marcela b Amapola, La Comandante, Seuxis
3) Cancerbero, Nosferatu, Raziel b Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura b Ángel de Oro, Metro, Valiente
5) Máximo, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero DQ Hijo del Fantasma, Shocker, Toscano

Bucanero faked a foul for the two fall win. Marcela got Amapola in the women’s match and asked for a title match. It’s been about four months, it must be time to do that match again.

On Tuesday’s Guadalajara show, Sombra suffered a dislocated left toe, according to Fuego en el Ring. He’ll need a week of rest and have to be evaluated then. It seems like he’ll still be good to go for the mask match, but they may pull him from Friday’s show.

Lots of articles about Mascarita Dorada joining Perros del Mal: audio interview from Perros del Mal, photos from Perros del Mal (so they still do have the WWA tag title – one of ’em, anyway), Perros del Mal video, Estrellas del Ring, Record, Box Y Lucha, Notimex, SuperLuchas, Fuego En El Ring, and ESTO. Mascarita Dorada’s version is he gave Paco Alonso his notice, saying he explained he needed to leave because he needed to get enough work to support his family. Mascarita Dorada says he’s close to Hijo del Santo – they’re talking on the phone all the time – so of course he went on that tour. He may change his name at some point, but he’s says he owns the name “Mascarita Dorada” and the gimmick. Dorada has bookings thru March outside the country, so he won’t actually start with Perros until later.

Pierrothito says Dorada will be fine outside of CMLL, but still wants that mask vs mask match. Pierrothito also says comments by “several people” indicate the minis matches are the best, and he vows to uphold it by giving 1000%. He’ll defend the lightweight title against anyone who’s a lightweight.

The other story getting a lot of attention today is a Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. vs Dhani Jones contract signing. IWRG’s getting extra attention for this bit from the lucha press – EdR, Record, Ovaciones – but it doesn’t seem to have crossed over beyond that. Still kind of surprised they’re actually doing a singles match and not just a trios. EdR notes this match is approved by the commission, so maybe Dhani Jones got his wrestler license this week? (Naaaaah.) Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. revealed his secret past as playing fullback, so clearly a linebacker is his natural rival.

AAA held a press conference for tomorrow’s Rey del Ring, with it’s own site giving it the most coverage. Hernandez from TNA has officially been announced as the mystery person in the Rey de Reyes tournament. Neither TNA guy was there, nor Konnan or Latin Lover. Electroshock and Mesias talked about their opponents; they were respectful towards each other, but denigrated the guys who weren’t there. Mesias said wrestling is just a part time hobby for Latin Lover, and you must be full time to hope to defeat Mesias. Electroshock says he’s lost no sleep about facing Mr. Kennedy, while Mesias noted he was recently fired from WWE and stated Kennedy will not bounce back here.

There’s also an AAA article noting they have no idea what would happen if Mr. Kennedy were to win the title. That’s one of those things you’re better off not saying aloud. Another thing is saying it’s the first time a current guy in one major promotion has challenged for the biggest title in another promotion; SuperLuchas says maybe it’s the first time in the West (“Keiji Muto“), but I’d like to point to WWE’s Tazz winning the ECW title from Mike Awesome. Unless you want to say ECW wasn’t major at that point, which might be right. It hasn’t happened in Mexico because no one’s had The Biggest Title In The Promotion until now.

AAA’s recap doesn’t mention it, but SuperLuchas says they also confirmed NOAH’s Morishima and Ishimori would be challenging for the AAA World Tag Titles next Friday, and Ozz & Chessman would be traveling to AJPW. AAA says they’re not making an exclusive alliance with any one specific promotion, but just trying to bring in new people for new matches. It is kinda amusing, with all NOAH’s injury issues, they’re sending people to work with Joe Lider. Unneccesary risk!

CMLL also held a press conference to talk about the big show they’re running in Michocan. It turns out to be a part of a greater plan to bring more entertainment events to poorer communities. Tickets for this event will be cheap, money from the gate will be used to buy a new roof for the disabled children’s building in he community. and the promoter is planning to do movie screenings and other events.

Estrellas del Ring checks on Pierroth, who recently celebrated his 52nd birthday. He looks a lot more like his old stuff, and he’s recovering speech and memory, but isn’t walking.

Box Y Lucha’s articles include Perro Aguayo talking about his promotion (now teasing a three way mask match, without Santo), Kenzo Suzuki talking about his career, Villano III talks about trouble making entrances, and LA Park accuses Demon and Santo of being hypocrites for always accidentally attacking him and not putting up their masks.

Hablando de Catch looks at a cage being put assembled.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Ras de Lona #89 has more Dos Leyendas hype.

Kcidis illustrates the problem in Rayo de Jalisco vs Zombies.

Lineups

PdM (SUN) 03/21 Gimnasio Nuevo Leon
1) Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V vs Centurion Negro, Karonte, Mongol Chino
2) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman vs Black Terry, el Signo, Negro Navarro
3) Groon XXX & Hijo del Lizmark vs Damián 666 & Halloween
4) Charly Manson vs X-Fly
5) Rey Hechicero vs Caifan Rockero I [mask, hair]
6) Konnan Big vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

This is the lucha show that’s part of a lucha libre convention. The Villanos are appearing at the convention, which is why they (and the others in the second match) are making an appearance here.

the Perros vs AAA feud that never happened

This slipped past the past week, but has been discussed on the background a while. It doesn’t seem to have leaked into the general lucha libre spanish language discussion, so maybe it still is news.

There was a plan for the Perros del Mal to invade the 02/05 AAA TV taping in Puebla, starting a promotion vs promotion feud. Rey de Reyes would’ve been unchanged, with the Perros making minimal appearances before then, but the story would’ve taken centerstage leading up to TripleMania. I do not know who specifically would’ve appeared, but it seemed more like the core Perros del Mal rudos (Perro Jr., Halloween, Damian, Mr. Aguila) and not necessarily the guys who’ve left AAA on bad terms (Park, Manson) or those loosely aligned with the group (Santo, Demon.)

Instead, for reasons unclear (but mostly guessed to be the Perros backing out), the invasion never happened, and the whole thing was kept quiet until Olimpico made that random comment about it in Box Y Lucha a couple weeks back. The feud can always be brought – next Friday’s DF show seems like a logical place – but there’s been no specific mention that it would.

The Perros could’ve used the relevance that comes from appearing on Televisa, and AAA could’ve used the buzz and change of status quo the new feud would provide. This kind of feud would required a lot of co-operation and teamwork between rival promotions, not something the wrestling business is known for, and probably is a reason why it’s not happening.

Since dropping their participation in this feud, the Perros del Mal have ramped up their live event schedule, so it seems like they’re making a stronger push to make it on their own.

03/13-14 Lucha Times

box

AAA-US: Mesias, Latin Lover vs Chessman, Zorro, WagnerManiacos vs Parka/Marco/Pimpi

52MX: A show including Fabian, Leono, Rush, and Toscano.

Also, the Saturday Ras de Lona has moved to 12:30 pm ET, meaning they’ve got six less hours to get the Friday highlights on this show.

LATV: Women’s Trios, and Raziel vs @DIAMANTECMLL. You’d think all the guys from Hell would be the ones with Twitter accounts.

IWRG: assuming there’s a pattern here – crazy! – top 2 include Gringos vs Terry/Cerbero/Chico, and a match with Tinieblas.

—-

CMLL: when the top 3 includes the Arena Coliseo Tag Team Feud, they’re taking it easy this week. Or they need to give those titles to someone a little lower. Or both.

AAA-MEX: Parka vs Silver King, Mesias/Marco/Octagon vs WagnerManiacos, leading into Rey de Reyes

CMLL-FOX: Pequeno Rey de Aires, Negro/Volador

C3: top 3 includes more Shocker/Bucanero fun.

Puebla: Mistico/Volador in a trios, Bam Bam/Rafaga/Asturiano vs Mini Universo/Violencia/Pierrothito

Monterrey: WagnerManicos vs Warrior/Mesias/Parka, Piratas vs Dorada/Hator/Negro. Don’t think there will be room for a third with those two.

PdM: Leftovers from 02/20 taping – minis (sorta) tag, and Histera/Pesadilla/Ragde vs Celestial/Lizmark/Oriental trios

CMLL-TFN: Just a couple of random trios, by the looks of it.

Monterrey, GDL, Ozz & Chessman to AJPW

CMLL LLU (SUN) 03/07 Arena Solidaridad [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Vudu & Zodiaco b Azteca Warrior & Koko Viper
2) Diana La Cazadora & Perla Negra b La Bandida & La Chacala
3) Bengali, Espanto Jr., Potro Jr. DQ Coliseo 2000, Gato Volador, Panthro
4) Humberto Garza Jr., Ninja Jr., Tigre Universitario b Difunto I, Difunto II, Pirata Morgan
5) Averno, Mephisto, Místico b Ephesto, Máximo, Valiente

Weird main event. Averno & Mephisto weren’t down with fighting Epehsto, but Mistico didn’t care. He also fouled Maximo for the win, claimed he wasn’t neither tecnico or rudo and then challenged Maximo to a hair match and Valiente for a mask match. Show drew 3,000 for the debut of this group.

CMLL (TUE) 03/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Acertijo & Titanio b Relampago Azul & Virgo
2) Ebola & Ráfaga b Metatrón & Palacio Negro
3) Pierrothito b Saturno [MEX LIGHT]
4) Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Plata, La Máscara b Asesino Negro, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Felino b La Sombra

Felino pulled Sombra’s mask and rolled him up again. Sombra’s got to figure out a way to stop that before the 19th. Brazos were triumphant in their big team up, but this probably isn’t the end: Asesino Negro is looking for revenge on the family for taking his hair and injuring his knee a while back. Pierrothito retained his title, but Saturno got to have a match with Pierrothito, so who’s the real winner?

Fuego has partial results for Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show, but no one seems to have full results so I’ll wait a day on those. Bucanero foiled Shocker in the main event again.

CMLL

Ozz and Chessman were announced for All Japan Pro Wrestling’s 03/21 Sumo Hall show (taped for PPV!) They’ll be facing Kiyoshi & Bushi, both who’ve passed thru IWRG, so the idea is probably to do a lucha libre style match. Of note for Mexico, Chessman is currently scheduled for the 03/19 AAA TV taping in DF, which wouldn’t leave much time to make it to Japan. Ozz isn’t scheduled, and I wonder if Chessman might get replaced before the show occurs.

You’d think AAA would mention this on their site, but I’m guessing they’re just finding out.

CMLL recaps of the Volador/Negro Casas stuff from Sunday indicates Volador wants to focus on the mask match before he does any title match with Negro Casas and no one knows which or how many of the 5 titles will be on the line. None of them are NWA titles, sadly. Negro was carrying all four titles to the ring and did not acquire a new one in the last week, so that’s great.

In today’s Ovaciones, Volador Jr. says the four way match is complicated, he’d rather just have the singles match, but he’d like Mistico’s mask most of all. I don’t think it’ll happen this way, but if one of the rudos got pinned, would his tecnico rival just get himself DQed to guarantee the match up?

Record, Notimex, Estrellas del Ring, and Perro’s Tumbler have quotes from a shared interview with Hijo del LA Park. He insists he’s in Sunday’s Perros del Mal main event because he’s a high quality wrestler, not because of the name. Hijo del LA Park is looking forward to facing Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. for the first time. And then feud with him forever to no end, one presumes. It is amusing that he’s just using the same exact mask he was as Black Spirit (the news articles don’t even mention that gimmick), when he was saying he wasn’t related to LA Park. It’s almost as if you can’t actually believe what people have to say!

SuperLuchas has Cassandro talking about his trip to Belgium, and Halloween and Damian talking about the upcoming X-LAW show.

Random: Los Chivos with Bob Sagat.

Kcidis illustrates Maximo & Mr. Niebla.

Segunda Caida has video of Hector Garza & Lil’ Kissing Bandit vs Cassandro & Lil’ Chicken from Lucha Va Voom.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about IWRG 03/08.

IWRG, Monterrey, Puebla, Dorada

Schedule:

  • Video links will go up tonight
  • Trying for Tapatia awards to be up on Thursday
  • Recaps maybe coming this week? Less sure.

IWRG (SUN) 03/07 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, Black Terry Jr.]
1) Alan Extreme b Héros
2) Brazo Metalico Jr., Daga, Eragon b Hijo del Signo, Maldito Jr., Samoth
3) Oficial 911, Trauma I, Trauma II b Freelance, Jack, Ultramán Jr.
4) Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco b Black Terry, Chico Che, Dr. Cerebro
5) Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Scorpio Jr., Veneno b Angelico, el Ángel, Tinieblas Jr.

This was the show with Dhani Jones getting into it with MA2K Jr. Semimain was a brawl with the two teams tearing up the building. Ultraman Jr. was hurt on a dive in a tercera.

AAA (SUN) 03/07 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Angelica & Mari Apache b Hija de Karonte & Sexy Star
2) Tigre Cota & Tito Santana b Angel Dorado Jr. & Sky [AAA NORTH TAG]
3) Babe Rap, Máscara Púrpura, Pimpinela Escarlata b Androide, Rey Sagitario, Rió Bravo
4) Aerostar, El Elegido, Laredo Kid b Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., Silver King DQ Black Warrior, El Mesías, La Parka Jr.

Wagner got in a foul on Mesias without the ref seeing, but Parka got caught fouling Silver King for the DQ. Poder del Norte won the tag team titles in the segunda; I really need to make a title history for that on the wiki. Tercera was aid to be very good.

CMLL (MON) 03/08 Arena Puebla [R de Rudo]
1) Fuerza Chicana & Siki Ozama Jr. b Black Tiger & Tigre Rojo
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca Jr., Astro Boy, Trueno
3) Asturiano, Bam Bam, Mr. Rafaga DQ Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
4) Blue Panther, Máscara Dorada, Shocker b Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Taichi
5) Atlantis, Místico, Rey Bucanero DQ Máximo, Mr. Niebla, Volador Jr.

Mistico fouled Volador for the DQ in the main, as you’d expect. Looks like a strong turnout. No word on the DQ in the tercera, but presumably Violencia fouled Bam Bam since the two were challenging each other after the match. The twist is it wasn’t a title challenge, but one for the hairs.

Today’s CMLL show features the Maximo & Mr. Niebla on the rudo side. Why is Niebla wearing a Canada jersey in that picture?

The La Quebrada column says the CMLL minis are unhappy about not being on Dos Leyendas. Which is now kind of obvious now that I write it out.

SuperLuchas notes the prices for Dos Leyendas tickets: from $90 ringside to as little as $8 for GA. I’m thinking they won’t be doing the 5 on 1 ticket deal here.

The world going on Mascarita Dorada’s new name is he’ll be Mascarita Plateda, a mini Santo without actually using that name.

AAA notes the Psycho Circus will be lumberjacks for the Cibernetico/Konnan match. The interview with Psycho Clown makes it sound like the Legion will not be at ringside, which is a bit hard to believe. Normally, it’d be half Cibernetico guys and half Konnan guys, and that ensuing fight would be a fine destruction. They also continue posting Rob’s Rey de Reyes videos.

La Mascara tells Fuego that he’s excited to team with his father. As noted elsewhere – CMLL originally annoucned this week’s main event would be a repeat of the last two, but they’ve since subbed out Mascara Dorada and put this La Mascara in his place. Not that it really makes a difference.

Ultimo Guerrero wants a shot at the CMLL World Trios championships, noting titles are there to be defended, and he’s defended his a bunch lately.

Shockercito @ Box Y Lucha has an interview with Super Mega.

Perros del Mal has a 6 minute video hyping up their promotion.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineups

LMLL (TUE) 03/09 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Zodiaco vs Neurosis
2) Gemelo Muerte I & Gemelo Muerte II vs Dranser & Scravos
3) Furor, Galactar, Koko Viper vs Erick el Rojo, Gato Fantasma, Hijo del Ninja
4) Golden Boy, Lover Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo vs Androide, Corazon Adicto, Raiden, Rey Sagitario
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. vs Estrella Dorado Jr., Hator, Monje Negro Jr.

Changed card. That’s a lot of rudo.
