Queretaro, Naucalpan, Monterrey, Puebla, AAA on MTV2, DTU

indy (FRI) 03/19 Arena Queretaro [Estrellas del Ring, Black Terry Jr. (flickr)]
1) Black Sain & Rey Aztlan b Dragon de Oriente & Galaxi
2) Anubis, Cuchillo Jr., Hijo del Cuchillo b Mascara de Fuego, Mascara Oriental, Mercurio
3) Canek b Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Hijo del Medico Asesino, Axxel, Scorpio Jr., Fishman Jr., Tinieblas Sr., Black Terry, Rambo, Tinieblas Jr., Rene Guajardo III, Guerrero Maya Jr., Canek Jr., Dark Zombie, Cerebro Negro, Signo Jr., Sicopata, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro, Oficial 911, Alex Guajardo, Terry 2000, Dr. Cerebro, Sepulturero I, Jack, Epitafio, Siki Ozama Jr. [royal rumble, copa de Amigo por Siempre]

That main event is by no means complete or accurate. It was a 38 man royal rumble style match (though eliminations by over the top, submission, and pinfall) and I’ve only found 27 names from the poster and the pictures. There were wrestlers from AULL, IWRG, Queretaro, Puebla and even a couple from CMLL; just missing a couple DTU guy sfrom making this the most indy match ever. Canek beat MA2K Jr. to win it after 1 hour and 25 minutes. Fishman, Carlos Maynes, Javier Llanes, Huracan Ramirez  and Carlos Hernández Valdéz were all honored at the show.

IWRG (SUN) 03/21 Arena Naucalpan [DJ Spectro]
1) Comando Negro & Eterno b Daga & Héros
2) Gringo Loco & Maldito Jr. b Trauma I & Trauma II
3) Chico Che, Freelance, Leopardo b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Oficial 911 b Bobby Lee Jr., La Roca, Suicida
5) Dr. Cerebro b El Hijo del Diablo [IWRG IC Light, WWF WELTER]

The boyhood dream has come true for Dr. Cerebro, he’s won the WWF (welterweight) championship. Surely a historic moment in all our lives.

911 worked twice because no one knew Veneno was actually in Panama? OK. Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. beat La Roca and they’re already teasing that mask match. Mike Segura replaced Ultraman Jr., who’s missed two straight shows.

Gringo Loco replaced Samot, and after Maldito Jr. pinned Trauma II, he asked for a title shot. I have no idea what title that could be – Trauma I was the one who one the Americas title, right?

FLLR PdM (SUN) 03/21 Gimnasio Nuevo Leon [Estrellas del Ring, Al Filo del Ring]
1) Dama de Hierro & Poly Star b Angelica & Justiciera
2) Coco Azul, Coco Rojo, Coco Verde b Difunto I, Difunto II, Espanto Jr.
3) Kaentai & Lord Byron b Insane & Sick Boy
4) Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V b Centurion Negro, Karonte, Mongol Chino Sr.
5) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman b Black Terry, el Signo, Negro Navarro
6) Damián 666 & Halloween b Groon XXX & Hijo del Lizmark
7) X-Fly b Charly Manson
8) Rey Hechicero b Caifan Rockero I [hair]
9) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo b Konnan Big

In both 7&9, the non Perro had the win, but Halloween & Damian ran in and cost them the match.

Estrellas del Ring also has a report on the actual Monterrey lucha libre festival part of the show.

CMLL (MON) 03/22 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Asturiano, Milenium, SWAT b Alarido, Ares, Barbaro I
2) Hiroka, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca b Goya Kong, Lady Apache, Marcela
3) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Metro, Stuka Jr., Valiente
4) Brazo de Plata, La Sombra, Toscano DQ Felino, Negro Casas, Taichi
5) Místico DQ Volador Jr.

Mistico won fall one, Volador pinned him using the ropes in fall two, and Mistico tossed his mask to Volador to draw the DQ in fall three. Mistico demanded a title shot for winning, but Volador refused.

The feud doesn’t stop in the semimain either. Tecnicos took the first, and Felino fouled Sombra for the stright fall loss. Felino’s face was completely black with face paint..

ESTO says everyone is confused about which way Mistico is going. I’m not sure that’s correct: most everyone (Hector Garza included) realizes Mistico is a rudo jerk, but the CMLL programmers (and Mistico) are in a denial. Ovaciones sees tonight’s main event as Vangelis’ big change for revenge on Misitco, though they seem to have forgotten about Volador winning the LH title.

Lucha Libre on MTV2 update: it starts in May, and it’s apparently reused AAA footage – I bet this the Lucha Libre USA that was talked about a while back. Next thing to figure it is how old it is .

AAA and SuperLuchas have video tributes to Abismo Negro

Arena San Juan Pantitlan is still running, this past weekend with a tribute to Dinamico I, who died there after a match a year ago. The night before, the coffin of  Genaro Contreras was brought to the building for one final visit for the long time wrestler there.

A new season of 100% Lucha starts in May.

NJPW is holding the first Super J Tag Tournament on 05/08. It’s a one night eight team tournament and they say they’ll have wrestlers from Mexico.

IWRG will be off on 04/01.

Another story on the DF commission clarifying X-Fly is the heavyweight champion of Mexico reminds me that absolutely no one cared about who was the actual heavyweight champion when that whole thing went down, and everyone just wanted Charly Manson to be sanctioned. They’ve done a very clever job of side stepping the actual issue.

Amapola says she prefers tough challengers, but Lady Apache might beat her this time. Naaaaah.

The Gladiatores has an interview with Supremo Jr., back in wrestling after complications with appendicitis.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of a MTY show from 03/20.

Boxing and lucha libre will return to Auditorio Municipal Torreon, though everyone else is upset about the damage they’ll do to the building (particularly the floor.)

An article about this week’s show says Laguna’s Piloto Negro lost his hair last week in Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio, though it doesn’t mention who beat him for it. It was a four way match with Sexy Piscis, Difunto III and Difunto II (who had been wearing the mask he lost to Ultimo Guerrero until the newspaper complaining about it daily finally got him to stop it.)

Someone’s posted HD clips of Amapola vs Marcela over on Vimeo.

Rob has thoughts on recent CMLL LATV & IWRG’s rookie show.

Box Y Lucha 2965 has Felino unmasked and AAA in DF.

Luchas 2000 513 has Felino unmasked. Inside, Joaquin Roldan says Black Warrior and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. were brought in to shows by local promoters and are not signed with AAA, though he’d be willing to talk to either about a contract.

This Month’s Dos de Tres has an Abismo Negro feature.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 03/23 Arena Aficion [Hidalgo Sport]
1) Kristal Jackson vs Sacristan del Diablo
2) Arenita & La Plaga vs Anubis & Rey Galactico
3) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Neutrón vs Ángel de Plata & Horus
4) Felino, Puma King, Tiger Kid vs Fai Constantino, Herlen, Sangre Azteca

Rudo/rudo and tecnico/tecnico matches. The men teaming with Sangre Azteca are wrestlers from France – must be from the promotion they partnered with there (though I’m blanking on the name.)

AULL (SAT) 03/27 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Love Angel & Rey Kristal vs Jose Caporal & Yoruba
2) Mr. Potro, Super Panda, Tortuguillo Ninja vs Hombre sin Nombre, Kilvan, Tormento
3) Chucho el Roto, Robin Maravilla, Sadico vs ?, Rey Krymen, Terry 2000
4) Epitafio, Iron Love, Rocky Santana vs Angel o Demonio, Leon Rojo, Ovett
5) La Sombra, Olímpico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Psicosis II

First time AULL has brought in CMLL wrestlers since late ’08. It’s kind of hyped as a team up with Perros del Mal, though we know Olimpico’s out of that group.

DTU (SUN) 04/18 Coliseo Coacalco
1) Wotan vs Daga, Flamita, Impulso, Masivo, Eterno, Anthony, Muerte Bucanera
2) Dolar vs Mr. Chef, Juan El Ranchero [fans bring the weapons]
3) Lasser Boy vs Low Rider, Drastik Boy
4) Hormiga, Iron Love, Magnifico vs Blasfemia, Epitafio, Judas el Traidor
5) Psicosis III vs Paranoiko
6) Aeroboy vs Trauma I, Violento Jack, Trauma II
7) Gran Apache vs Skayde
8) El Generico vs Último Gladiador, Crazy Boy [Ladder]

I think this is TVC Deportes, but I’m not sure. I’m thrown off by someone besides PROLLM running here. Also, that semimain, which seems to belong on a different show (but DTU always does a token straight match and it’s a fine token.) I guess ladder matches aren’t hardcore matches. Lasser Boy being here seems to indicate he was also here before he was Lasser Boy.

03/20 video links

  • 03/20 LATV – everyone’s raving about the Delta spot
  • 03/20 52MX – Puma & Tiger should permanently steal the Puma mascot.
  • 03/20 IWRGmissing the end of the Dhani Jones match; have I told you how little I think of TeleFormula this week?
  • 03/20 RFS – Yes, another episode!
  • 03/20 AAA – the usage of Chessman on the shows before the Rey de Reyes suggest they might have not thought of him as the next title challenger at that time, but maybe I’m not watching closely enough
  • 03/20 ACM – two helpings of Silver King vs La Parka this week.
  • 03/20 WWC – only the new hour. Let me know if this is correct.

I’d also like to point out to the lucha libre world that there’s six other days you can air stuff on it. Trust me on this.

04/ 25 Valiente Ent/Masked Republic Lucha PPV (Yonkers, NY)

Valiente PdM (SUN) 04/25 El Imperio Night Club, Yonkers, NY
1) El Conquisador, Phoenix Star, Zokre vs Angel (Exotico), Ricky Reyes, Scorpio Sky
2) Christina Von Eerie vs Cheerleader Melissa
3) Mascarita Dorada vs Mini Chupracabras
4) Tokyo vs Charly Manson
5) El Hijo de Rey Misterio vs Sabian vs Puma vs Mr. Águila
6) LA Park vs Tommy Dreamer
7) Magno & Misterioso vs Damián 666 & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Valiente’s run lucha shows in NY/NJ with some success (though not always in getting there guys there who’ve they promised.) They’re partnering with Masked Republic and inDemand, with the idea this will be a HD PPV in June, with commentary in both English and Spanish. No mention of price. Valiente’s blog entry says it’ll eventually air worldwide, though no date on that.. (Perros del Mal is only there for our sorting purposes; they’re just talent being brought in, doesn’t appear they’re running the show.)

The non-lucha people are combos of SoCal indy guys, East Coast indy guys, and Tommy Dreamer, who really should be putting together some sort of passport or picture book of every promotion he’s bizarrely working for this year. Von Eerie working here indicates she’s in AAA on a per night deal (which would probably be standard for the foreign women) and I don’t think this affects her status there. On the other hand, I have some doubts about the “Hijo de Rey Misterio is training with CMLL for a debut” story, since he seems to be spending a lot of time on indy shows. Maybe he was, but he isn’t right now. LA Park being here doesn’t affect his AAA schedule, but it’s a nice remainder that it can’t possible be a full time deal with all the other bookings he gets (and, if he should happen to lose his mask, he’ll probably continue wearing it for these sorts of shows.)

The key to making this work will be promotion – the AAA TripleMania PPV did not do so well because it barely got any promotion, and this group won’t have a TV show to work out of. I suspect this will eventually come out on DVD and sell more of those than on PPVs, but I guess we’ll see. They’ve got a lot of work to do, but I suppose they know that.

Besides these matches, they’re promising 3 more unbilled matches. They’ve also announced two shows for Texas on the previous weekend:

Valiente PdM (SAT) 04/17 The Criket Center, Austin, TX
1) Christina Von Eerie vs Knockout Nikki
2) Mini Chupracabras vs Pequeño Halloween
3) Tokyo Monster vs Charly Manson
4) Mr. Águila vs Turbo, Súper Nova, Sabian
5) Steve Pain vs Angel (Exotico)
6) El Hijo de Rey Misterio & LA Park vs Damián 666 & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Valiente PdM (SUN) 04/18 The Rodeo Mesquite, Dallas, TX
1) Christina Von Eerie vs Knockout Nikki
2) Tokyo Monster vs Angel (Exotico)
3) Mini Chupracabras vs Pequeño Halloween
4) Mr. Águila vs Turbo, Súper Nova, Sabian
5) Steve Pain vs Charly Manson
6) El Hijo de Rey Misterio & LA Park vs Damián 666 & el Hijo del Perro Aguay
