Marco Corleone gone from AAA

So says AAA’s site and Dos de Tres’ facebook.

Marco debuted last 03/15, so a standard (?) AAA one year contract would’ve run out three days after this year’s Rey de Reyes. If you look back at last week’s dueling press conferences closely, it’s pretty clear the decision was made during that week. Yurem’s challenge was originally to Marco at the AAA press conference (which he didn’t attend), but they switched it to Alex by the Friday Konnan/Dorian event.

When Marco jumped, the big idea was for Marco to cross over into other media. I don’t pay attention to stuff on Mexican TV that’s not lucha to tell you if that’s worked, but I don’t have the impression it’s really worked. As a wrestler, Marco has pretty much as underutilized in AAA as he was in CMLL; he’s been just a guy a lot.

That wasn’t the plan, even as late as a few weeks ago. I think I can talk about this, now that it’s clearly not going to happen (and I figure it’ll be in the WON either this or next week), but AAA had some major plans for Marco this year not too long ago. When this year’s Rey de Reyes was first planned, Marco was picked to win, take the title shot at TripleMania this year, and win the title. Electro as champ was originally supposed to be a transitional champion to get the belt from Mesias to Marco. (Who knows where that’s going now, but maybe breaking up Wagner/Electro might be a hint – if Wagner ever signed his contract.) Plans change all the time, but AAA’s talk of doing something with Marco wasn’t as empty as it seems now, at least at one point.

I’m not too worried about Marco; I think he’d be sticking with AAA if that was the best option, and he’s leaving because he’s got a better plan. I doubt it’s going back to CMLL given how he left (though you never know) and figure he’s headed back to the US somewhere. Marco was far more enjoyable than we would’ve figured and it was nice having him around as long as he was.

for the record

Zorro: has done nothing
(Dorian’s big on TV, so they are creating one new star!)

  1. Alright, AAA has finally done something to please Latin Lover. Hopefully he takes the bait this time.

  2. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him end up with TNA considering they’ve been signing a lot of ex-WWE guys.

They should team him with Matt Morgan just to piss off Cornette because the world needs more pissed-off Jim Cornette online interviews.

  3. Looks like TNA is setting up Hernandez departure with the big scene they cut for him on TV tonight.

As for Corleone, I’ve seen him on Televisa doing some veriety show and arm wrestling guys in the crowd for prizes. I dont think either promotion dropped the ball with him, he was good for selling tickets to females. I can’t believe they would consider putting the strap on him, he can’t carry a company hence why he ended up in Mexico. I wish him well and I hope he picked up some new tricks.

On a side note I was watching CMLL on LATV and I want to say it was Delta who hit this sick plancha/tope which I cant really describe. If you saw it you know what I’m talking about, if not perhaps cubs will upload the show. Just amazing is all I can say.

  4. Marco leaving AAA might mean:

    1. He can go to TNA, and run the ramp. He should call TNA and sell them on it.

    2. He can post here again.

AAA did 178,000 viewers on Galavision USA on Saturday.

  5. I am begging for something major to happen to Konnan that will result in the firing of him from AAA.
