Asesino Negro wins a hair, Poder Mexica to get their title shot, shows in Texas canceled

AAA CANTU (MON) 03/29 Arena Cuatro Caminos de Nuevo Laredo [El Manana]
4) Black Mamba b Pimpinela Escarlata [NORTH LH]
5) Gronda II, Jack Evans, Laredo Kid DQ Alex Koslov, Konnan, Zorro

Rudos pulled Laredo Kid’s mask off for the DQ. Mamba (who retained) and Pimpi talked mask vs hair match.

FULL LUM (SUN) 03/28 Arena Solidaridad [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Angel de Espacio & Super Cometa b Chamaco Ortiz & Zafiro
2) Black Poison, Solovino, Tiger Negro b Cop Machine, Gemelo Muerte, Ricky Estrada
3) Pantro Jr., Pantro Sr., Tigro Jr. b Espanto Jr., Super Vaquero, Vudu
4) Bengali & Potro Jr. b Gato Volador & Tigre Universitario [FILL TAG]
5) Difunto I, Difunto II, Sergio Romo Jr. DQ Diluvio Negro II, Humberto Garza Jr., Silver Star
6) Diluvio Negro I & El Hijo Del Santo b Blue Demon Jr. & Pirata Morgan

Pirata Morgan fouled Diluvio Negro in the main event, clearly the finish everyone paid to see. Demon & Santo were in Satillo earlier, and SuperLuchas has video.

Difunto II got away with a martinete on Garza to win the semifinal; Garza was strechered out.

CMLL (TUE) 03/30 Arena Aficion [Estrellas del Ring]
2) Anubis & Rey Galactico b Coco Rosa & La Chona
3) Arenita & Guerrero Maya Jr. b Fabio & Harlem
4) Exotico, Loco Max, Tiger Kid DQ Bronco, Delta, Diamante [Relevos Increíbles]

Loco Max replaced Puma King, so Puma’s injury from Puebla must be at least partially serious. Tiger Kid tossed his mask to Diamante to draw the DQ.

Team France can’t seem to buy a win.

CMLL (TUE) 03/30 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
2) Acertijo & Dragon b Idolo & Thunder Boy
3) Gallo, Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro b Ebola, Exterminador, Rey Trueno
4) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Máximo b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Asesino Negro b Brazo de Oro [hair]

Asesino Negro won falls 2 & 3, getting the clean win via senton. Sounds like Asesino vs the Brazos will continue.

In an interview before the match, Brazo de Oro says he’s returning to CMLL full time. I dunno if I believe that just yet. He does note he was retired, but the people demanded he return to the ring. Maybe HBK can use that one?

CMLL (TUE) 03/30 Arena Mexico [Cesar]
1) Metatrón & Tormenta b Camorra & Oro Negro
2) Astral, Bam Bam, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Euforia, Nosferatu b Ángel Azteca, Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Metro, Stuka Jr., Valiente
5) Atlantis, Felino, Rey Bucanero DQ Máscara Dorada, Shocker, Toscano

Rey Bucanero fouled Toscano, and then challenged him to a hair match. I like his chances better than versus Shocker, but I’m a bit worried that if Rey Bucanero talked to any of you for fifteen minutes right now, it also might end in a hair match challenge.

After Valiente took out Sangre Azteca with the Valiente Especial, Dragon Rojo and Misterioso beat Metro & Stuka clean. This sort of outcome is why Valiente is taking Skayde and Turbo with him to CHIKARA instead of these dorks. Anyway, Poder Mexica demanded a trios title shot, and the tecnicos consented to actually team up for once. The tecnicos also challenged back for a mask match, which is not going to happen.

CMLL Magazine (who live tweeted the show!) says this Tormenta was previously Tormenta II, who had a short run in IWRG in 2007 and wrestled in Arena Neza at times.

I’ve been told the Valiente shows in Texas mentioned here last week – the ones with Perro Aguayo Jr., Charly Manson, and LA Park – have all be canceled. Valiente Entertainment had said they were doing six shows in April, all of one have been canceled, and it’s doubtful that the lucha guys will be working whichever one is left (and any other future ones) unless they get paid cancellation fees for the five that were canceled, and advance deposits on any more shows with the promotion. The PPV taping is also off – Masked Republic is still planning to do a PPV, but they’ve cut ties with Valiente Entertainment.

(AAA, you can book LA Park on that 04/17 taping now! Maybe.)

Bracito de Oro & Pequeno Warrior were at the CMLL offices, making challenges but not yet signing anything for their masks. They built it as though they might officially agree after Friday. Mascarita Dorada is still listed for that match. CMLL still hasn’t said anything about that, but since CMLL never actually said anything about him leaving, it’s about right.

Members of the Aguila del America soccer team visited Arena Mexico, learned moves from Shocker, Maximo, Mascara Dorada, Rush, and Electrico. What a crew that is.

Perros del Mal sent a press release about the Damian 666 name to a bunch of sites, like Estrellas del Ring. It reads as though Damian 666 no longer wants Mini Damian 666 to use the name in the US, since the mini has gotten in trouble there. (When did Mini Damian 666 come to the US, and how did we miss it? And why would officials be looking at the gimmick name?) Anyway, remind me never to give an interview about my pet shop.

SuperLuchas speculates on Atlantis vs Mistico as the anniversary main event. We’ll know a lot more after Sunday.

R de Rudo talks to Heavy Metal, who says he’s been busy promoting AAA concerts, and joined in AAA to partner with them. He never signed an actual contract with CMLL, so he was free to go whenever.

As noted on Ras de Lona, Negro Casas announced he’d be heading to NJPW to celebrate his 30th year in wrestling. No date was mentioned, but that Super J tag team tournament seems the easiest get. However, Cesar does note Negro said it was a tour, and that appears to be a stand alone show. Perhaps Negro will be in the Super J itself?

Cesar also notes the Arena Mexico build anniversary (54th) is April 27th, and wonders what match CMLL might use to headline a special show that day. This year, April 27th is a Tuesday, for what it’s worth.

Fuego en el Ring has a couple interviews with Solar: one talking about the start of his career (including how he got his name) and one challenging Satanico to a match to determine the best student of Diablo Velasco. In that article, Solar mentions a match with Satanico in Arena Coliseo that went 80 minutes.

AAA’s website has photos of Ozz & Chessman with the AJPW wrestlers.  If you’ve ever wanted to see Ozz & Viscera in the same picture, today is your lucky day.  Also, Sexi Star has traveled to Colombia for a National Geographic feature.

Proconmex  (Contreas Promociones) says Rossy Moreno & Oriental, as well as Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. will appear in their upcoming video game. This should be a good one.

The Gladiatores has an interview with Heavy Boy, as well as photos and an interview from a recent aspiring luchador licensing test.

Proyeccion Luchistica has video commentary on a match from the recent AULL show.

Mario Y Maria are selling fabrics for masks; looks like they’ve been doing Mistico’s recent great masks.

CHIKARA has announced another lucha team for their King of Trios: Ice Cream Jr., Hijo de Ice Cream, and Cassandro. I can not believe I am not going to this show.

In Argentina, the man who claims to be the original Mummy Blanco talks about winning the rights from the Karadagains, his plans for his son to take over the gimmick when he was 15, and his music album. You need to click that link and scroll down for the pictures.

LuchaWorld has Alfredo on this week’s IWRG show on TeleFormula (and the disaster that is TeleFormula.)

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 04/04 Arena Naucalpan
1) Héros vs Comando Negro
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Maldito Jr. & Samoth
3) Chico Che, Eragon, Goleador vs Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Oficial AK47
4) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Hijo del Cien Caras, Masada vs Dr. Cerebro, Pantera, Scorpio Jr.
5) Canek, el Ángel, Olímpico vs Fuerza Guerrera, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Pirata Morgan

Changed a bit already. Maybe La Roca has some ab work to do?

Gringo Loco is not on the lineup, because he’s back in Chicago and on the GALLI card this Saturday. I have things to do that day, but I’m going to see if I can make it to Melrose Park for that.

top six stories of the last two weeks

1) Felino lost his mask at Dos Leyendas. Sombra won, though no one really noticed. Felino has made it clear that he still plans on wrestling for many years.
2) Heavy Metal returns to AAA, just a couple hours before his brother lost his mask. They teased Metal joining the Legion, but turned on them and appears to be returning as a main event tecnico.
3) Latin Lover left AAA. To be fair, he left before Rey de Reyes, but AAA officially announced he was gone. He did not leave on good terms, with AAA complaining about Latin Lover complaining about finishes.
3) Marco Corleone left AAA. His contract expired and he did not resign. He left AAA on good terms, and it sounds like he’s either trying to find acting work outside of wrestling or trying to live closer to home.
4) MTV2 is airing an AAA lucha libre show in May. Though we know little about what actually is going to air.
5) NOAH’s Takeshi Morishima and Taiji Ishimori won the AAA World Tag Team titles. La Hermandad’s 18 month title reign ended against a team unfamiliar to AAA fans, but it was part of a split between Hermandad and the Legion.

– Mr. Niebla is suspended (or something) by CMLL. Again.
– Ozz & Chessman lost in AJPW
– Sabu, in the country for the XLAW show the next day, showed up as a surprise on the AAA show, and will be back in April.
– The tecnico and rudo sections were closed for a month in Arena Puebla, part of a series of fan restrictions recently implemented in the building.
– Canek won the greatest 38 man royal rumble ever
– Amapola beat Lady Apache to retain the Women’s Title.
– LA Park has a pool.

Niebla, Pimpi wins a hair, IWRG, Damian 666

AULL (SAT) 03/27 Arena Lopez Mateos [Estrellas del Ring]
4) La Sombra, Olímpico, Volador Jr. b Felino, Mr. Niebla, Psicosis II
5) Epitafio, Iron Love, Rocky Santana b Angel o Demonio, Leon Rojo, Ovett [captains hair]

Captain Rocky Santana took captain Angel o Demonio’s hair. Bloody. Recap has video; so does Al Filo del Ring. Interesting that Mr. Niebla worked this show; seems to indicate he’s suspended and not hurt.

AAA (SUN) 03/28 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Fabi Apache & Poly Star b Hija de Karonte & Sexy Star
2) Babe Rap, El Brazo, Sky b Golden Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo
3) May Flowers, Nygma, Yuriko b Black Mamba, Pit Bull, Sobredosis
4) Pimpinela Escarlata b Rey Sagitario [hair]
5) Alex Koslov, Konnan, Zorro b Gronda II, Jack Evans, Laredo Kid

Rudos had Sexi and “Hallie Hatred” (?) helping them in the main event. Gronda continues to fufill Marco Corleone’s bookings. Hair win for Pimpi.

Next Sunday is a torneo with local wrestlers, so AAA may be done here yet again.

IWRG (SUN) 03/28 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring, DJ Spectro]
1) Comando NegroDinamic Black
2) Daga & EragonComando Negro & Heavy Boy
3) Alan Extreme, Chico Che, GoleadorOficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Fishman Jr.Bobby Lee Jr., el Ángel, Suicida
5) Canek, La Rocca, OlímpicoFuerza Guerrera, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.

Matches 1, 3, 4, and 5 were all two fall to zero wins. Main pushed the Roca/MA2KJr. feud. Tercera included the return of Goleador. He hasn’t been seen since August, and is immediately in a feud with AK47. HMMMM. Alan Extreme was a sub for Freelance. Fishman Jr. was a tecnico here last month, maybe that’s changed.

CMLL (MON) 03/29 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Karisma & Siki Osama b Black Tiger & Milenium
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Molotov, Sensei b Inquisidor, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Rush b Dr. X, Hooligan, Pólvora
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Taichi b Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada
5) Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza, La Sombra b Felino, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Tecnicos won, but Garza & Porky had issues. After the match, Brazo wanted a singles match with Garza, but Garza was still trying to be friends.

Dragon Rojo beat Mascara Dorada with his powerbomb in the deciding fall, which sets up a Super Light title match to come.

Puma King was hurt in the first fall of the segunda, leading to the tecnico win.

In this week’s SuperLuchas, there was a story on Hiroka & Pequeno Damian 666’s pet shop (“KENTA Shop”,Dr. García Diego 120, local B, casi esquina, on Dr. Jiménez, in la colonia Doctores). It was a charming interview – Damian wanted a tattoo/piercing place but Hiroka liked animals more, Hiroka’s thinking about having a kid and they wanted to start a business before she left, they’re going to Japan soon to visit her parents (this was the Fuka retirement show), Hiroka thinks joshi wrestlers are silly – but no one’s takling about that stuff.

Near the end of the interview, in reference to the Mascarita Dorada situation, Pequeno Damian 666 mentioned that he believed he owned the “Pequeno Damian 666” name, but found out recently that CMLL had registered the trademark themselves. Monday, (regular size) Damian 666 interjected, with proof of his ownership of the “Damian 666” name, which he believes would extend to owning the mini name version. Upon leaving CMLL, Damian 666 had stated that the mini was free to continue using the name (on account of being awesome), but Damian 666 still believes that means he has full rights for variations of the character.

I have no idea if that actually holds up; the only comparable situation I can think of is the Mascara Sagrada gimmick. In that case, AAA did not get the rights to the regular size gimmick (a fan created it in a contest, and did not sign the rights away), but they have kept the rights to the mini version. So maybe CMLL’s actually in the clear here? Damian’s case is he lent the minis name to CMLL, which implies he already had rights on the mini gimmick (though I think Damian’s bigger concern is his own name is not owned by CMLL.)  People far more familiar with the law will be fighting this one out as long as both sides are willing to pay for it.

Ovaciones’ preview of today’s Arena Mexico show hypes up Felino and says Valiente needs to defend his title.

Proyeccion Luchista does play by play for Felino’s return to Arena Lopez Mateos.

In Guadalajara, Metal Blanco still wants a shot at Angel del Mal’s Occidente Welterweight Championship, and Angel del Mal still thinks he hasn’t earned it.

Also, DJ Spectro has a report on the tribute show to Roberto Paz and an article on the early days of El Signo.

In Laguna, Piloto Suicida is still trying to return to the ring after suffering a “brutal head injury” on a dive fifteen months. He’s almost cleared, but has been told to cut out the dives.

Al Filo del Ring also has video of Octagon & Alebrije vs Ozz & Escoria from an AAA spot show, and Sunday’s IWRG main event. He’s working on a interview series on independent lucha libre.

Speaking of Alebrije, Cuije has a blog entry on CHIKARA’s site, talking about King of Trios. Cuije says he’s a better wrestler than Pantera & Incognito and about as tall as Lynx Dorada! Cuije is so getting kicked in the face.

R de Rudo has video of a match from the mask expo.

Box Y Lucha 2967 has LA Park vs La Parka.

Cronicas Y Leyendas has Love Machine’s debut in Mexico.

Ohtani’s Jacket & Raging Noodles watch Perro Aguayo Jr. & Sr. vs Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 from Dos Leyenda 2005.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update & Strong Man rhyming couplets.

GDL, Molotov v Nosferatu? Atlantis v Mistico?

CIRIO (SUN) 03/28 Arena 2 De Junio, Neza [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Lapida Negra & Maquiavelo b Hijo del Trueno & Jimmy Madrid
2) Tony Cirio & Tony Velita DQ Confetin & Payasito Chicolin
3) Corazon Diabolico & Negro Vazques b Dementor & Luis Cirio
4) Cósmico, Principe Cosmico, Sammy Madrid DQ Ahijado de la Muerte, Danger Kid, Tony Cirio Jr.
5) Luis Cirio, Manny Cirio, Tony Cirio b Atlantis, Skayde, Último Guerrero

Cirios won the main event in straight falls, taking the first clean and getting away with a foul on UG in the second. By coincidence, the Cirios were promoting this show.

CMLL (SUN) 03/28 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Informador, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Enrique Vera Jr. b Metalik II
2) Cerveruz & Quca b Meteoro & Relampago
3) Metal Blanco & Neutrón b Ángel del Mal & Ráfaga
4) Amapola b Lady Apache [CMLL WOMEN]
5) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Volador Jr. b Averno, Felino, Negro Casas
6) Rey Bucanero b Shocker

Shocker took fall one, Bucanero took fall two. Shocker tried the reinera in fall three, Bucanero escaped and fouled behind the referee’s back, the crowd protested the foul and the referee was undecided, and Shocker took advantage of the discussion to cradle Bucanero for the win. Hair match challenges continue.

Averno replaced Niebla. Crowd still behind Felino, though he lost.

Amapola won clean via backcracker in the best match of the night. They’re calling this defense 14.

CMLL (SUN) 03/28 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones (PDF), ESTO]
1) Mortiz & Zayco b Camaleón & Horus
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Metálico, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Artillero, Ramstein
3) Molotov, Pegasso, Rey Cometa DQ Loco Max, Nitro, Nosferatu
4) Brazo de Plata, Máscara Dorada, Stuka Jr. b Shigeo Okumura, Skándalo, Taichi
5) Atlantis, Mephisto, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, La Máscara, Místico

Mistico refused to help his teammates, but ended up pinned in the third after Atlantis stole his mask. (Somehow, this makes Mistico “100% tecnico”. His partners did not agree.) They made challenges for a singles match next week. @cmllmagazine indicated that match will happen next Sunday, but CMLL has not posted an updated lineup. Neither man is currently scheduled for next Sunday.

Skandalo replaced Mendoza.

DQ in the tercera was for excessive violence by Nosferatu. Molotov and Nosferatu are suddenly in a mask feud. Nosferatu has seemed on the outs since Virus & Euforia formed the Cancerberos and specifically left him out, but CMLL’s never done anything with Molotov.

Ovaciones says Guerrero Maya recently filmed a commercial at Arena Naucalpan. Mortiz gave Horus a Spanish Fly to the floor.

Black Terry Jr. has photos of Sunday’s IWRG show.

The lucha columnist in El Siglo de Torreon complains Piloto Negro didn’t actually get his hair cut when he lost his hair back on 03/18 to Difunto II. He wrestled this past Thursday with most of his hair still on his head.

Blue Demon Jr. & El Hijo del Santo did an Q & A before their match on Sunday, though nothing they haven’t done before.

In Cordoba, Veracruz, Rey Tiger took Azteca de Oro‘s mask.

Links, lineups

Might as well wait until tomorrow for Sunday Coliseo results, but @cmllmagazine says they set up Mistico/Atlatnis for next week and teased a Molotov/Nosferatu mask match.

Somos Luchadores intervews lucha action figure creator Daniel Gonzalez.

Cesar writes about CMLL’s relationship with the indies (don’t need a formal alliance, they can get whomever they want if they really want them), Goya Kong’s debut and the relative number of Casas’ and Brazos in CMLL. Diamante is a member of the Casas family?

Black Terry Jr. has photos of the AULL show from Saturday.

Robert writes about Negro Navarro, this weekend’s CMLL B-Shows, and upcoming lineups.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update and a list of Strong Man Haiku. Someone needs to read these to music and Strong Man footage and put it on YouTube.

SuperLuchas 357 has XLAW results, but you really buy it for the list of all 37 wrestlers in that super indy Arena Queretaro rumble, with order of entry and escape. That’s strong record keeping.

Lineups

IWRG (SUN) 04/04 Arena Naucalpan
1) Héros vs Comando Negro
2) Eragon & Miss Gaviota vs Maldito Jr. & Samoth
3) Freelance, Goleador, Suicida vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
4) El Hijo del Diablo, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Masada vs Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, el Ángel
5) Canek, La Roca, Olímpico vs Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Pirata Morgan

No Thursday show this week. That main event, that’s something.

CMLL (SUN) 04/04 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Johnny Dinamo
2) Mr. Trueno & Samurai vs León Blanco & Virgo
3) Stuka Jr. & Valiente vs Cancerbero & Raziel
4) Héctor Garza, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Terrible, Texano, Vangelis

Not sure about this lineup. Well, the DF guys are probably right.
