Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Or what lurks in the minds of whoever’s picking out these matches. This was an odd choice of matches, enough to make me wonder if there’s a TV Azteca tape floating about with the top two matches from this card and TeleFormula is now getting the left overs.

Eragon & Héros vs Heavy Boy & Hijo del Signo (part 2: It really should be “Eros”, but go talk to the guy who puts together IWRG’s posters, I’ve given up. If I recall correctly, this was supposed to Pareja Toxico, but Signo ended up working instead of Epidemia. Very disappointed it worked out that way, because I like my rudo units as teams and Signo & Heavy were just two guys sharing the same side of the ring until the comeback spot.

Angelico, Hijo del Pantera, Pantera vs Gringo Loco, Trauma II, Veneno: for a match where one of the rudos knocked himself silly to end the first fall, this match held together pretty well, and I guess it was good to see that be done, but I think they probably could’ve found another match that made their wrestlers look a little better. This was not a turning point into the Angelico/Veneno issue.

I still think lucha promotions should have an extra tecnico or rudo hanging around to fill in for these type of situations. Would’ve been perfect here, so the Panteras wouldn’t have looked silly being unable to stop Trauma II 2 on 1.

Mistico’s deadline, Fantasma on Mistico/Volador, Juvi/Konnan

Tonight’s CMLL show:

CMLL (FRI) 02/19 Arena Mexico
1) Delta & Diamante vs Puma King & Tiger Kid
2) Bracito de Oro, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura
4) La Sombra vs Felino [lightning]
5) Máximo, Mr. Niebla, Strong Man vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Taichi
6) La Máscara, Místico, Negro Casas vs Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero, Volador Jr.

Generic previews: ESTO, Notimex

It took the Box Y Lucha commission a week to make the decision: according to Ovaciones, Mistico will be suspended for 15 days if he doesn’t turn over the belt by Monday. Guess he’s getting off scot free on hitting the ref. We’ll see what happens Friday.

Meanwhile, Hijo del Fantasma doesn’t think La Mascara and Hector Garza squaring off in the main event will cause any problems with their Angeles Rebeldes group. Fantasma explains that the Super Sky Team actually hated each other, so they broke apart at the first moment. Huh. Fantasma assures us that Garza and Mascara are friends. Fantasma is not upset about losing the middleweight title, because he feels he gave his best effort, as good as Negro Casas, and things just worked out against him.

Besides tonight’s main event, the Sombra/Felino match is a continuation of that feud. Maybe we’ll get another appearance from Felino II? Also, CMLL.com awards winners will be honored.

Cesar says Juvi won his court case versus Konnan and AAA, and will be getting paid and his job back. Everyone commenting on this story seems to doubt it. It should be pretty easy to vet; either Juvi shows up on lineups or he does not. We’ll probably hear something along the way. On the same line, Cesar writes about how AAA has been bad and CMLL has been good this year. His point about the disconnect between making a kid’s movie and then a not-kid-friendly TV show is pretty good.

On SuperLuchas, Super Crazy presents a special match from his Tulancingo promotion: Damian 666 & Halloween vs X-Fly & Charly Manson. I bet I can guess the finish.

Cancerbros say they work together five days a week in the gym to work on their teamwork, which is great. However, Euforia also says “Just as the Twin Towers fell, so will our rivals fall at our feet”, which is not great.

On AAA’s website, Alex Koslov writes a note to Gran Apache: You should’ve hit your children more.

Estrellas del Ring has interviews with Jose Contreras, about moving his shows to Arena Neza from Arena San Juan (which will only have dancing now), and a promoter running tournaments for rookies.

Metal Blanco‘s goal for 2010 is to make it to Arena Mexico.

DJ Spectro looks at the history of Mascara Roja. He also points to a video interview with Blue Demon Jr.

The new El Santo book will be presented tomorrow.

AAA’s movie debuts in Laguna today.

2010 AAA TV Lineup
Projected Air Date (#927)
Mexico: 02/28
US: 03/13

In the opener, Laredo pinned Billy for the win. After the match, Guapito’s new bodyguard Hilary laid out Super Fly.

In between matches, Joaquin Roldan came out to complain about Konnan inviting Dorian to party with the Legion. Joaquin brought out Cibernetico to challenge Konnan for a lumberjack match for Rey de Reyes. (Hooray, a dozen people to work the match instead of them!) Konnan accepted, then went to fight Cibernetico right now (?) and got beat until Koslov, Chessman, and Zorro ran out and beat up Cibernetico. Parka made the save, but way late and Cibernetico was stretchered out.

Mini Abismo beat Octagoncito, Joe Lider beat Jack Evans.

Wagner finished Pimpi with the Wagner Driver, but Electroshock stole the pin. I have a hard to blaming Electro Shock for that – the only way Wagner can not pin himself is if he lets go and goes to celebrate, and then Electroshock is just being smart. Anyway, they’re broken up now.

Latin and Mesias got along again. Latin pinned Chessman with a casita for a win, with Piero running into replace Hijo de Tirantes (which they seem to have done on TV a lot lately.) After the match, Zorro caned Latin, Mesias made the save, Koslov ran in to attack Mesias, and Mesias made his own save. The power of Konnan was enough to turn the tide for the Legion, but Cibernetico ran in and cleared the ring himself. Mesias, perhaps remembering that Cibernetico turned on him not that long ago, refused to shake Cibernetico’s hand after the match. (Latin had no issue.)

Next taping is next Saturday. There’s two tapings left to Rey de Reyes and, at least in the ring, no hint of an actual Rey de Reyes tournament.
