Sombra/Volador vs Felino/Mistico, Monito, Von Eerie

CMLL (FRI) 02/26 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones (PDF), SuperLuchas, Cesar]
1) Astro Boy, Guerrero Maya Jr., Molotov DQ Artillero, Semental, Súper Comando
2) Fuego, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
3) Mephisto b Hijo del Fantasma [lightning]
4) La Máscara, Shocker, Toscano b Dragon Rojo Jr., Máximo, Mr. Niebla
5) Terrible, Texano Jr., Último Guerrero b Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Taichi
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. b Felino, Místico, Negro Casas

Casas submitted Dorada to take the first fall of the main event, Dorada and Sombra got castias on the Casas brothers to win the second. In the third, Sombra pulled Mistico’s mask and Volador rolled him up. After the match, Felino and Mistico decided to join forces and challenge Volador & Sombra to a tag team mask match. Volador & Sombra (sort of cowardly) walked away without answering.

My best guess is this turns into a tag team title match. Which would be good, but not the stakes we’ve been led to expect.

UG got Mendoza with a powerbomb to take the semimain. Taichi still has not taken a fall.

Monito was caught in the middle of the fourth match. He started the match with Shocker, much to the disappointemnt of Maximo & Niebla. Tecnicos took the first, rudos took the second. After that fall, Dragon Rojo wanted revenge on Monito for something that happened earlier, but Niebla & Maximo stopped him. Shocker kicked at Dragon Rojo, but missed and hit Monito! Shocker apologized to Monito, but Monito was angry and ditched him. Mr. Niebla tried to get Monito on his side, but Monito walked off on him as well. Hmmmm. Mascara and Toscano won the fall and the match for the tencicos.

Mephisto got Fantasma in 9:44 with a Tiger Driver ’91. Fantasma was sterchered out. Artillero ripped off Molotov’s mask in the opener.

AAA has switched the foreign women in the trios to Christina Von Eerie, and pulled the article hyping Lacey Von Erich (though you can still see her name on a Rey de Reyes page, until they read this.) Cesar chronicles the whole weirdness about the Rey de Reyes situation. I always lean towards it these things being more bad coordination than works of deception. This isn’t the first time where it’s seemed like the person (people?) running the website have no idea are working with limited or no information based off what other parts of the company are doing. Anyway, SuperLuchas has all you need to know about Von Eerie and I think it’s a better match with her in it.

The headline of this article is “Lizmark says lucha libre is now a fraud“, but it’s more the standard complaint about kids these days not having a good amateur wrestling base before they start doing the wacky moves, and he’s going to start training people right.

Bam Bam tells Fuego en el Ring that Mini Violencia has not earned a championship match yet.

Relampago talks to his hometown paper about making it to AAA. Apache and Mexicano are training him now.

SuperLuchas has a video of Konami vs Drastik Boy. I’m glad we’ve agreed on a spelling for Drastik!

DJ Spectro writes about Brazos vs Aquamen for the masks, in 1980.

Cronicas Y Leyandas has posts on Dr. Wagner winning a title in 1975, Los Fantasticos, La Yaqui losing her mask, and a show featuring Emilio Charles Jr. trainees.

  1. Well they did reair the Mascara Dorada segment that Cubs made a GIF of a couple weeks ago.

    Insane dive by Electrico.

  2. Minis match has been great. Commentary is localized with Rivera and Magadan talking specifically about “LATV”.

  3. I hope someone is recording this. Cubs will be pleased to know he has another show to record weekly.

  4. Looks like they are showing the undercard from the Friday shows. Plata/Oro/Sagrado vs Misterioso/Rojo/Okumura on now.

  5. That’s pretty wild they are airing this out of nowhere and there is actually a new outlet for undercard CMLL stuff. Exciting news!

Wonder if they signed a new 6 month deal.

  6. The show was trademarked to MVS as opposed to MVS/FOX as in the past. Where else did these two matches air in Mexico, if they aired there at all?

  7. C3 looks to be pre-empted on the WMP feed for Chile coverage. Haven’t checked the Real Player link.

  8. Just wandered back into my apartment and the segunda just completed. Looks like they are airing the show, just delayed (at least in Mexico City).

  9. @LLL: I’m pretty sure they didn’t air in Mexico last week or thus far this week. At least not on any of the normal shows, so they would have had to find some sort of new distribution that noone heard about (always possible with CMLL). It sounds like the matches they had been airing on TDN up through early January, but that stopped around the second Friday of January down here as far as I can tell.

Glad they are showing up someplace, I just wish I had easy access to them too.

  10. @Alan: If the distribution deal is for the US, I see no reason not to air the top matches sometimes. But I’m happy that they aired what they did today because both matches were very good. I’m surprised no one in America has stolen Misterioso’s finisher.

I could tell that the commentary was not done live, as the crowd noise “lost a generation”.

  11. ACM is still billing Black Warrior for the main tomorrow night.

It’s insane how much Neurosis looks like 2009 Big Show. Only a little bit shorter.

  12. Figures Black Warrior would show up there. He’ll probably be one of the ?’s for the upcoming AAA shows on television too.

Sad to see ACM so empty. They should sell ACM, and tape at one the Multimedios owned dance halls, or television studio. Too many venues in Monterrey, and not enough fans.

  13. 70 comments? Busy Saturday.

    No surprises on 52MX.

Had noticed LATV had changed their program description for the CMLL show (it was finally actually describing the program!) but didn’t twig that something was up. My listings actually match LATV’s listings for the channel, so I’ll grab it on Wednesday.

  14. Just went thru 52MX to remove commercials, and somehow the show went at least *51* commercial free minutes this week – they were still airing the closing video package past the top of the hour. It’s usually 47. Random!

  15. Also, if someone could make sense of the description of Sect/Jack/Laredo/Fly match on AAA’s website, they’d be doing better than me.

  16. @thecubsfan: Tecs won when La Secta walked away and got counted out. But they came back post-match to kick Jack Evans’ ass and he got stretchered. Wins don’t matter – it’s AAA!

@tromataker: Why do you say that?

  17. I just finished watching the Fox Sports show from today. The opener was fun for how short it was. It is bizarre to watch all out tecnico Mistico right after watching last night’s show.

I can be fine with the “he only has a problem with Volador” explanation, but wouldn’t you think some of the other tecnicos might have an opinion on this? Shouldn’t they be choosing sides? So far, only Volador, and maybe Dorada seem to be in that position. You would think that Fantasma might have some issues with him after the whole making a big deal about him giving up his title willingly to Casas unlike Mistico, but you sure couldn’t tell it from this match.

  18. @Rob: Thanks Rob, links to the DVDs were exactly what I was looking for!

Fredo, give that man a commission. You know, if I actually get around to buying the DVDs that is.

  19. @LLL:

Well Poly Star and the Clowns are on the show tomorrow. And it’s not like anyone should really care about Gato Fantasma and Furor.

  20. @Tim: Well, my point is that they said “Poly Star” and “Los Payasos” in the commentary. I bet the commentator isn’t sure of himself, and isn’t sure she’s “Sexy Star”, or the clowns are “Psycho circus”.

I don’t see Sexy listed in the women’s match on the arenacoliseo.com site but do see her on Cubs, and figure RFC’s site does too.

  21. Highlights of Ras de Lona include Magadan questioning Shocker’s guapo-ness, Magadan losing it at the end of a Strong Man promo, Julio trying to talk Volador & Sombra (separately) into making Mascara Dorada the new member of the Super Sky Team (and failing!) and everyone realizing that Negro Casas is actually a four belt champion because they forgot the IWRG belt last week. The UWA belt actually makes air for half a second, not long enough to get an idea of what it actually it is.

(Also, good stuff on the two legends of Dos Leyendas but I tune in to Ras de Lona for the comedy.)

  22. If anyone has missed it, everyone’s favorite ringside cameraman, Black Terry Jr., uploaded a Los Traumas vs. Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Buccanero match. Short one-fall match, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

  23. Starting with Fuerza Aerea match. Hilario is a guy from the blueman group who just got out of the psych ward.

  24. So one segment each for the first matches, shared with promos featuring Konnan, Dr. Wagner, and 187.

  25. @Rob:

I say Von Eerie will get over huge because of her look. I think people in Mexico would get into a girl with a huge mohawk and a bunch of tattoos. Her ring work isn’t bad either.
