Pantera/Cerebro, Volador/Mistico, AAA’s movie

IWRG (THU) 02/11 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Comando Negro b Volaris
2) Brazo Metalico & Héros b Alan Extreme & Avisman
3) Trauma I & Trauma II b Maldito Jr. & Samoth
4) Hijo del Pantera, Pantera, Zatura DRAW Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Hijo del Signo
5) Angelico, Super Porky, Ultramán Jr. b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Porky pinned two of the Oficials clean for the win. EdR and Gladiatores differ on the result of the semimain; the guys who broadcast the show say tecnicos won, Estrellas has Cerbero and Pantera in a double pin. That seems to be the next feud, either way. Whatever happened to Cerbero Negro?

[poll id=”59″]Previews of tonight’s Arena Mexico show: notimex, Universal, ESTO, superluchas, and Ovaciones.

Mistico has amazingly turned this all around into being Volador’s fault, accusing him of attempting a coup for leadership of the Super Sky Team. Maybe he expressed those sentiments during that tag match, and Mistico had no choice but kick him low? I mean, I can make that story work a lot easier than Mistico’s back story.

Terrible says the pressure is all on No Limit in Sunday’s tag title match, since Terrible & Texano won the last encounter. Terrible notes this is his first time in Japan, but Texano’s been there five times and they’re like one person, so he’ll be fine.

Because I’m going to forget to say this tommorow: no chance they’re coming home with the belts. Success is having a well received match, but I don’t expect them to do something like winning.

Fuego en el Ring noticed Zumbido was hanging out at Tuesday’s Arena Mexico show, and Zumbido said he hopes to return to CMLL in a couple months (but notes he has no firm return date.) Two months is a long time.

In anticipation of this year’s entrant at Rey de Reyes, AAA looks back at the previous inductees into the AAA Hall of Fame: Antonio Pena, Rey Misterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, and Tropicasas. No hint as to the 2010 inducette; maybe Abismo Negro? Maybe Octagon?

Maybe La Parka Jr.? He says he’ll retire at the end of 2011. Luchadors say lots of things.

AAA is having a contest for free tickets to their movie for people in Mexico City.

Got me thinking about how the movie is doing. BoxOfficeMojo, which tracks this sort of thing, says the movie grossed $371,439 (US) in it’s first two weeks. That just up to 01/31, so the number right now is surely higher (and they strangely don’t have the first weekend listed individually, but part of the total.) Back before the movie came out, articles said the movie cost $2.35mil US, with hopes of making $6.27 mil. They’re $5.9 short of the goal so far. I would presume this is a movie that’ll fair better than most on DVD (typical kids movie that parents buy in bulk just to keep the kids quiet), but I have no idea how well DVDs sell in Mexico.

Also: AAA mentions Arena San Juan Pantitlan “are evaluating the fate of the arena”, which includes a modern remodeling. And Terra.com is promising a video interview with AAA wrestlers next week, but the Wagner/Electroshock picture can’t be beat.

SoloLucha is sponsoring a Lucha Libre Festival in Monterrey on March 21, in the model of the other expos around the country.

Lucha Va Voom is running shows in LA and San Fransisco this Valentine’s Day weekend. Southern California Public Radio has a story on the promotion, and LA Weekly has a NSFW photo gallery from yesterday’s show. Or maybe last year’s show, I’m not actually sure.

NewsOK has a video of the Real Nacho Libre, which is not actually a Fray Tormenta story, but someone pretending to be the “real” Nacho Libre the movie was based on. HMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Pariso de la Lucha Libre talked with Hijo del Rey Misterio’.

SuperLuchas notes Blue Demon is scheduled for a cage match on California’s PWR show on 02/27. Also, there’s no link, but SuperLuchas website is teasing an XLAW show on 03/10 with LA Park.

Over on Segunda Caida, SLL adds some IWRG and CMLL to his 2010 MOTY List.

LuchaWorld has the newest Slammin’ Stan.

  1. Eventhough Volador Jr. beat Mistico with La Mistica last week. I think Mistico will win, thus retaining his title & proving to the world that no one can stop rudo Mistico.

  2. if being put in the hall of fame will keep octogon away from wrestling then im all for it

talked with hijo de rey mysterios place? ? ?

  3. Trying to do too much at once.

Messed up quote and WordPress combined multiple links. FOr like the third time this week.Working on a solution.

Read the headline of the story Hijo del Rey story and thought they visited Rey in Tijuana, then later read the article and realized he visited them for the radio show.

  4. Looks like another week of no lucha on TDN. Has this deal come to an end?

If so, it still apparently lasted longer than CMLL’s interest in building up a rudo Mistico.

  5. well the good news is that XEJ is on now.

after watching Ras de Lona, I was certain that Sombra would be involved in last night’s Volador vs. Mistico match. Sounds like he wasn’t. Is Ras de Lona booking their own angles based on what makes sense vs. what CMLL booking actually does?
