Mexico, AAA taping, 2009 awards, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 01/01 Arena Mexico [Cesar]
1) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Starman b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
3) Hiroka b Marcela [lightning]
4) Máximo, Metro, Stuka Jr. b Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
5) La Máscara, Sagrado, Toscano b Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
6) Brazo de Plata, Máscara Dorada, Místico b Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Mephisto tried a crucifix powerbomb on Mistico, Mistico reversed it to a ‘rana. (Same finish as the Sin Salida tag title match.)

Hiroka pinned Marcela with her feet on the ropes. Skandalo yanked Oro’s mask and pinned him for a straight fall win.

Cesar says it was a pretty strong turnout.

AAA says the first taping of the year will be on 01/17 in Ecatepec and hypes up Mesias in Puerto Rico.

Fuego en el Ring picks it’s best wrestlers of 2009 and the important wrestlers of Guadalajara. Notimex picks Volador & Sombra as tag team of the year. ESTO notes it’s fan polls picked Rey Misterio & WWE as wrestler and promotion of the year. Mistico and CMLL came in second in both, AAA and Mesias came in 5th and 3rd.

DJ Spectro looks back at Ultraman & Shazam vs America Salvaje & Villano III in a relevos suicidas .

No lineups yet. I’ll update with them later.

CMLL (WED) 01/06 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Principe vs Disturbio & Ramstein
2) Molotov, Sensei, Trueno vs Apocalipsis, Artillero, Súper Comando
3) Ángel de Plata, Delta, Fuego vs Dr. X, Nitro, Pólvora
4) Máscara Dorada, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca [MEX TRIOS]
5) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Místico vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Special day for this show. This looks like pretty fun, with young guys working a little higher than normal (or Delta’s making some incredible progress.) Don’t like the Guerreros odds on this day.

CMLL (FRI) 01/08 Arena Mexico
1) Diamante & Starman vs Durango Kid & Inquisidor
2) Astral, Eléctrico, Tzuki vs Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Ángel Azteca Jr. vs Loco Max [lightning]
4) La Máscara, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Averno, Ephesto, Virus
5) Shocker, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura
6) Héctor Garza, Místico, Strong Man vs Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Naito! Even though No Limit said they’d like to go back to Japan in their return to NJPW, I was just assuming that was one of things people say. There’s a couple weeks between shows (and then another week before their tour), so Naito does have some time to kill. Maybe he had a month extra on his lease, because CMLL doesn’t hint at actually doing anything with him.

CMLL (SUN) 01/10 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Cholo & Disturbio
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Tony Rivera vs Bronco, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skándalo
4) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Naito, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, Místico, Strong Man vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

A show. They never did add that Felino/Dorada match to this Sunday’s show, and there’s no sign of that feud anywhere else, so perhaps it was just a usual random challenge never meant to go anywhere.

There’s no sign of anything strikingly new on these 2010 cards. Young guys are moving up, but it’s been that way for a while.

AAA, Mexico, CMLL in Latin America, UG

Worth considering, now that we’re in 2009:

First AAA taping of the year:
2009/01/18 Parque de Beisbol, Guanajuato, Guanajuato
2008/01/19 Parque De Beisbol José Aguilar y Maya, Guanajuato
2007/01/13 Plaza de Toros El Pinal
2006/01/15 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
2005/01/23 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
2004/01/18 Salamanca, Guanajuato
2003/02/01 Toluca, Estado de Mexico
2002/01/19 Ciudad Sahagun, Hidalgo
2001/01/16 Pachuca, Hidalgo

We know the AAA movie debuts on 01/22, and they won’t be taping on that day, and maybe not the weekend. Maybe something on the January 14-16 weekend? Which might mean it gets announced next week?

CMLL’s Friday night show exists just to run the show; doesn’t look like it’ll air anywhere. ESTO pitches it as Mascara Dorada trying to start 2010 on the right foot.

SuperLuchas noted a YouTube channel of CMLL promos for it’s TV show on various Latin American countries. Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela (on Venevision, which I believe is carried in the US), Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Honduras, Panama, and for DirectTV Latin America.

Thing to note:
– these videos appear to be at least 15 months old, because the Perros del Mal all over them
– in the comments, people posting from those countries note CMLL is not actually on there

These must’ve been promotional clips went out long ago, in hopes of getting on these networks.

Fuego en el Ring and SuperLuchas both have quotes from the same interview with Ultimo Guerrero. Not a lot new – Guerreros are united, Liger already knows how good he is, he’d still like a mask match with Villano 4, and he’s working to stay a star for many more years. In slightly new info, he’d like to give Misterioso that title match to test him, and he thinks the CMLL New Era stuff means more young wrestlers being brought into (an already young) roster. Ultimo says there are 5 schools of trainees trying to crack thru.

AAA looks back thru May, June and July and notes there poll saying fans most want to see La Parka win the title in 2010. Odd that Wagner wasn’t even a choice.

Mr. Niebla’s New Year’s Resolution: not to take a bath.

SuperLuchas has a top 10 wrestler of the decade poll: Mistico, Shawn Michaels, Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Park, Kurt Angel, El Mesias, Keiji Muto, the Undertaker, Mascarita Dorada, and Blue Demon Jr. LA Park sticks out most as the one least belonging on the list, but they point to his XLAW title (which is no big surprise.)

Tribuna talks to local Camepche wrestler Demonio Rojo about his career.
