AAA #909 (10/24)

taped 09/26/09

Argenis, Atomic Boy, Laredo Kid vs Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II – such a dumb stip for an OK match. I want a gold star for being able to tell apart Cota and Santana in the dark. I can not tell the new Rio Bravo from the old one and totally would not believe it if there weren’t newspaper stories.

Sexy Star vs Fabi Apache in a bull terrier match for the Reina de Reinas – I’m voting Sexi Star as most improved and I’m voting this as feud of the year. Until I change again. The rudas attacking the winning ruda is pretty clear proof no one here thinks past the major show they’re doing at the moment – Sexi wasn’t going to tecnica side, so they were inevitably going to have team up despite this big logic hole. And that’s what they did.

Electroshock vs Chessman in a hair vs hair match (and part 2) – actually had no problem with this before the match stopped so the stuntmen could set up their stunts, and if I just wanted a stunt show I’d go watch a movie. I hear they’re good! Anyway, at least we found out when Hijo de Tirantes turned rudo, and you can even make up a storyline to explain it (unlike Electro, he was staying loyal.)

Copa Pena (and part 2) – boring battle royal. If Konnan Big was supposed to be a joke, and everyone treated him like a joke when he came out for the hair match, why did they have him last until the end? Have to keep Konnan Big happy? Have to justify your own surprise?

5) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Místico b Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Sponsored show by Bus company. All the matches aired on C3. Well attended, as the sponsored shows tend to be. Of course, the sponsored shows tend to be flooded with free and discounted tickets, but at least they got the the people to show up.

Not that Arena Mexico was the only CMLL locale with a special show on Saturday…

indy (SAT) 11/21 Arena Puebla [Reforma via El Siglo de Torreon, sporttimes]
1) Black Heart, Meyer, Sexy Arana b Dimanikoo, Sexy Boy, Silver
2) Charly Boy, Crazy Black, Milenium b Akron, Centauro, Sauron
3) Aguila Guerrera, Black Silver, Karisma vs Blue Center, Iron, Lestat
4) Asturiano, Black Tiger, Centella de Oro vs Espiritu Maligno, Siki Osama, Toro Bill Sr.

This was the 8th annual Puebla Dia del Luchador, with a special show in Arena Puebla. One article only lists matches but not finishes, another article lists results for a bonus match and the opener and then cuts off. Eh.

Of more note, pretty much everyone on the local roster was honored here (so it’s an easy way to figure out who’s around): King Jaguar, Mr. Rafaga, Tiger Rojo, Toro Bill Sr. & Jr., SWAT, Karisma, Ares, Lestat, Forajido, Asturiano, Siki Osama, Centella de Oro, Espiritu Maligno, Black Tiger, Blue Center are listed in one group, and those listed as “amateur” are Milenium, Crazy Black, Suaron, Akron, Black Silver, Iron, Super Clawn, Barbaro, Super Star, Alardio, Guerrero Mantis and Aguila Guerrera. Also honored were promoters Benjamin Mar Medina & Manual de Jesus Mar Hernandez, and various members of the media.

AAA particpated in the annual Mexico City Sports parade, with such stars as Decnnis, Gato Eveready, and Polvo de Estrellas! (Parade was on Saturday, half the roster was probably still asleep in Orizaba from the Friday taping, what are you going to do?)

Politcal party PAN is on a recruitment drive, starting with getting Atlantis to join.

Also, this month’s Dos y Tres features an article on El Espantapajaros. I know someone who wants a copy.

Cesar looks at the Tuesday, Friday, Sunday CMLL lineups.

SuperLuchas #341 has Dr. Wagner’s challenges, and the return of El Faraon. Hope he’s not bringing a son with him.

Mexico, Neza, IWRG, Ultimo Guerrero, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 11/20 Arena Mexico [Cesar, SuperLuchas]
1) Guerrero Maya Jr. & Metálico CO Disturbio & Semental
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata b Puma King, Skándalo, Tiger Kid
3) Máscara Dorada b Euforia [lightning]
4) Ephesto, Mephisto, Virus b Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr.
5) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro b Terrible, Texano Jr., Vangelis
6) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man b Averno, Felino, Negro Casas

Clean finish in the main event, Mistico pinned Averno. No Limit pinned both Texano & Terrible for the win.

4th match finish set up Ephesto/Mephisto challenging for the tag team titles. CMLL emphasizes this, so they’re likely doing it before the end of the year.

CMLL (FRI) 11/20 Arena Neza [EdR]
1) Carta Brava & Vampiro Metálico b Black Ninja & Super Ninja
2) Bugambilia & Halcon Tarin b El Canalla & Punker
3) Black Thunder, Demonio Negro, Ice Killer b Brazo de Platino, Super Brazo, Turbo
4) Pequeño Violencia & Pequeño Warrior b Eléctrico & Pequeño Olímpico
5) Dark Angel & Lady Apache b Amapola & Princesa Sujei
6) La Máscara, Místico, Volador Jr. b Felino, Negro Casas, Texano Jr.

Mistico got Texano in the main event. Mascarita Dorada is still hurt, and replaced by Electrico. Maybe putting correct lineups for non-main shows is too much to ask for CMLL, but they really should at least mention when someone’s going to be hurt and possibly missing a whole bunch of shows.

IWRG (THU) 11/19 Arena Naucalpan [Estrella del Ring]
1) Mascara Magnifica b Comando Negro
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II b Keshin Black & Menfis
3) Bushi & Freelance b Avisman & Hijo del Signo
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Angelico, Hijo del Lizmark, Ultramán Jr. DQ Gringo Loco, Máscara Año 2000, Tóxico

DQ for MA2K fouling Lizmark. Both 911 and AK47 were hurt in the semimain. Avisman gave Freelance a martinete behind the ref’s back, but Bushi still beat Avisman to pick up that win.

Remember, a couple weeks ago, how Ultimo Guerrero talked about Guerreros del Atlantida getting a new start once Rey Bucanero returned? This week, he says the group is done, and he’s going his own way. UG says you’ve always got to find something new, so he’s going to make a career on his own. What happened the last couple of days? UG explains some of his matches with Strong Man haven’t been good because Strong Man is brutalizing him (because he’s so strong) and he’s working hurt.

Also, Ultimo Guerrero talks about his school for refeees with R de Rudos. It’ll offically open in January.

Paris-Normadie has an article promoting the CMLL shows, and the wrestlers were honored this past week.

Hijo del Santo was in Costa Rica this weekend, playing on the Latin American Poker Tour.

Hablando de Catch has a photo tour of Arena Mexico.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at Mil Mascaras vs Herodes, Hijo del Santo’s 1996 and micro-luchadors.

CMLL (TUE) 11/24 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Súper Camaleón vs Camorra & Zayco
2) Estrella Mágica, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei, Zeuxis
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata vs Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
4) Felino, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura vs Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Máximo
5) Máscara Dorada vs Negro Casas

Not title match. Mixed signs on the Cancerberos – in the tercera, but facing Los Angeles. It’ll be tough to get an exact read until everyone comes back from Europe, and we see if these guys are slotted in comparison to Poder Mexica.

CMLL (FRI) 11/27 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Starman vs Durango Kid & Escorpion
2) Flash, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Dr. X, Hooligan, Loco Max
3) Dark Angel vs Amapola [lightning]
4) La Sombra, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Terrible, Texano Jr., Vangelis vs Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
6) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero vs Héctor Garza, Shocker, Strong Man

No Mistico, but plenty of Ultimo Guerrero/Strong Man. Semimain is a rematch, and fourth match is more to build up that tag team title match. They can’t be doing the top two matches as 4 man tag matches on 12/04, so perhaps the title match is coming the week after?

CMLL still lists Flash as Flash.

CMLL (SUN) 11/29 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Sensei vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Leono, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera vs Inquisidor, Puma King, Tiger Kid
3) Euforia, Pólvora, Virus vs Ángel de Oro, Fabián el Gitano, Rouge
4) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro vs Máscara Dorada, Metro, Toscano
5) Blue Panther, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

A show!

indy (SUN) 11/29 Estadio Monclova [MT]

3) Estrella Mágica & Lluvia vs Yezca & Zeuxis
4) Difunto I, Difunto II, Herodes vs Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

Billed as Herodes’ retirement show, facing notable retiree Cien Caras. Oh well.

Perros (SAT) 12/19 Unidad Deportiva Acapulco [WagnerMania]
1) Black Spirit & Turbo vs Black Thunder & Skayde
2) Celestial & Cósmico vs Mini Talisman & Mr. Aguilita
3) Leo, Riveiro, Súper Nova vs Scorpio, Veneno, X-Fly

3) El Elegido & Rocky Romero DQ Alex Koslov & Ozz
4) Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King b Chessman, Teddy Hart, Zorro
5) El Mesías, Latin Lover, Marco Corleone b Joe Lider, Konnan, Nicho el Millionario

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#914)
Mexico: 11/29
US: 12/12

Main event was changed. Between the third and fourth match, Cibernetico came out to the ring to talk, but was attacked by the entire Legion, plus Nicho & Lider. AAA calls it “the worst beating of Cibernetico’s life.” No one helped Cibernetico.

Konnan replaced him in the main event, but his squad lost when Latin got Lider with a casita. Legion tried another group beatdown after the main event, only for Mesias to turn the tables.

Semimain was about referee shenanigans. Hijo de Tirantes helped the Legion team again, but Piero walked out, kicked hi out of the match, and counted the pinfall for Wagner beating Chessman.

Alex appeared to win the tercera with a foul on Rocky, but Piero listened to the crowd and overturned his own finish, calling for the DQ.

Cinthia replaced Estrellita in the women’s match for reasons unknown (except Estrellita appears to never be making it back to TV.) Mari pinned Rain, but Alex ran out to attack the tecnicas post match, and Sexi snipped off a little bit of Fabi’s hair.

Mini Abismo took a bad bump on his head in the minis match and had to be strechered out.

No next taping announced, but there should be at least one before Guerra de Titanes.

AAA Movie, Ciber/Konnan, Mexico preview

AAA says their movie will debut on January 22, 2010.

Naito/CMLL
Naito/CMLL

Yesterday’s Cibernetico press conference included the obligatory Konnan run-in. Yelling and fighting ensued, and a non-sanctioned match is signed for Guerra de Titanes. That’s 2 matches for the show, which is good since there’s only 2 more tapings before the show.

Preview of tonight’s show:
ESTO – pushed as Mistico/Felino
– the notimex one from earlier in the week, who’s link I don’t have handy here.

With the hair match set for 12/04, this week is all about discovering if they’ve to a co0main event (Averno/Mistico?) to the show.

SuperLuchas has photos from yesterday’s CMLL press confrence. I’m high on the Cacncerbero’s gear (and wondering why Cancerbero himself has the Semental logo on his gear) and this art, but down on Fuego’s new mask.

ESTO thinks CMLL announced Averno & Ultimo Guerrero will be working the 01/04 NJPW show. Not sure about that.

In an interview before his match in Arena Xalapa on Wednesday, Mistico says he was happy to hold the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship longer than any Mexican ever, but he would’ve been okay to have it for even one day. Plus, he had beaten Tiger Mask in Tiger Mask’s home, so Mistico considers the whole thing a success. (Mistico’s got to be someone who doesn’t want tape of his own matches.) Mistico teases matches CMLL will not do for months if ever for the remainder of the article.

Pancracio has good career interviews with Lizmark Sr. and Black Shadow.

Ohtani’s Jacket & Raging Noodles look back at Black Terry vs Multifacetico in a hair/mask match

Hair match signed, new group, new name, more CMLL/NJPW, Catrin

CMLL held one of their regular press conferences this afternoon, and actually had a lot of news.

The big item is the end of the year match has been set. It will indeed be Terrible & Texano Jr. taking on Yujiro & Naito in a double hair match, on 12/04, 3 Friday’s from now. The show will be called “Sin Salida” (Dead End.) Insert joke here.

I don’t know how this match will draw, but I’d suppose this won’t be the only notable match on the card. We do know No Limit will be heading back to Japan soon after this match (maybe they’ll stay around a week to be bald in public), and CMLL will be taking two months off from doing anything starting 12/05.

CMLL also announced the formation of a new group, Los Cancerberos del Infierno. Not to be confused with Los Guerreros del Infierno, who are not to be confused with Los Guerreros Tuareg. Also, not to be confused with fellow hell theme groups Hijos del Averno & Los Inferanles (who are defunct; wait a paragraph.) “Cancerberos” is known in English as Cereberus, the three headed dog of hell. An evil dog, if you will. How did they ever come up with that one? Between this name, and Sunday’s recap dubbing Okumura’s finishing more “Okumura Special”, someone really needs to be spending time coming up with more distinct names.

Anyway, the three headed dogs of hell (who’ll probably be referred to as CdI until CMLL forgets they exist and stops booking them together) are:

– Virus (leader! hooray!)
– Euforia
– Polvora
– Cancerbero (yes, same name as the group)
– Raciel

Euforia and not Nosferatu. The Infernales are done, which presumably might stop them from getting any more Arena Coliseo tag team titles shots. Those two just teamed up Tuesday, but had not done that in DF for a long time prior, and that was Nosferatu’s first match in Arena Mexico in two months. Something happened, but I have no idea.

Quite a rise for Polvora, who’s was an opening match tag wrestler with a missing partner, did nothing except win a bodybuilding contest, and has since won a mask and gotten into a group. When that bodybuilding contest happens next week, and the pictures that turn up long wrong on many different levels and you wonder why they’d do this, you have to remember Polvora’s year.

Cancerbero (why introduce a new guy and a new group? so annoying) and Raciel were introduced as new wrestlers. Odds are, they’re opening match guys who’ll spend the next two months trying to ID. Does Raciel mean anything in Spanish? Only see it mentioned as an uncommon first name.

Still at the press conference, CMLL announced Flash would be changing his name and look, and now be called Fuego. Guessing a licensing issue.

CMLL also talked about the NJPW/CMLL alliance. Ultimo Guerrero (they can afford him!), Negro Casas, Sombra, Terrible, Texano, and Mistico are mentioned as heading to Japan, with Liger, Tanahashi, Nakamura, Tiger Mask IV and others going to CMLL. Still, treat this all as ideas and hopes until they actually are announced with dates.

Finally, they’ve got a new giveaway. If a person goes to one show a week in DF (any of the Tuesday/Friday/Sunday ones) from 12/01 to 03/13 (16 weeks) and keeps their ticket stubs, then they can trade those ticket stubs for…a chance at a 76 question quiz about the history of CMLL. The best score on the quiz will win…actually, I’m not sure. It’s not too clear. Google translates it to winning the prize department, which is probably not right.

Not sure how this would actually help ticket sales; the people who aren’t going to shows right now aren’t going to start going to one a week and to take a quiz. The people CMLL need to get back are actually the people who would fail those quizzes miserably. Their money is good too. The person who is going to inevitable win will be of the type who already goes to one (or more) shows every week. Hooray for them getting a prize out of it, at least.

And now that you’ve read next week’s Ras de Lona…

Juarez referee el Catrin passed away on Wednesday. He’d been paralyzed after a (ring?) accident a months ago, and died due to pneumonia. This Catrin was a long time Juarez fixture, and worked with AAA in the first year of their existence. Besides refereeing, he was also a local promoter of younger wrestlers. He was seen last month, watching his guys when they were working on the undercard of an AAA spot show, having arrived to the arena on a hospital gurney.

(He’s not the masked ref of the same name from Baja California, I think.)

As mentioned in the comments, MultimediosTV is rolling out on Time Warner stations in Los Anegles (it’s already in other places.) Included is 500 hours of Arena Coliseo Monterrey lucha libre, though one would assume they’re not putting it all up at once.

R de Rudo shows you Damian 666’s scars.

Veneno’s blog has Veneno (and others) on Mexico’s Next Top Model. Looks like they were doing a photo shoot in Arena Naucalpan.

Tiger Marino looks back at his first mask
