For reasons not actually explained, 17 was the cut off for the final.
The only match where tension between teammates is mentioned is the tercera. Wagner and Electro wrestled each other clean, but did not get along with their teammates. Wagner still pinned Electro clean. If those two were smart, they would’ve agreed to that finish before the match – Electro wasn’t getting anywhere with a win, and Mesias getting a direct win woudl’ve gotten him to that magical “17” number. (And if they had known 17 was going to be it before hand, they could’ve used that to explain why Mesias actually had a chance to get to the final.)
The Doc and Jack teamed up to work over Marco and eliminate him. The recap makes it sound as if Wagner squashed Jack from there, having plenty of time to pose between moves. Wagner got a medal for the championship.
So…AAA did this complex format, and ended up with the winner being the same guy who’s already champion and repeatedly defeating his own rival. Thank you for wasting my time.

To quote a wise man: “Vintage AAA”.
This is like when the WWF had Hogan win the Royal Rumble even though he was already champion.
This is far worse than Okumura winning the 2009 Gran Alterntiva. Stupid AAA.
@tromataker: QUIET! That was my favorite Royal Rumble.
