CMLL held one of their regular press conferences this afternoon, and actually had a lot of news.
The big item is the end of the year match has been set. It will indeed be Terrible & Texano Jr. taking on Yujiro & Naito in a double hair match, on 12/04, 3 Friday’s from now. The show will be called “Sin Salida” (Dead End.) Insert joke here.
I don’t know how this match will draw, but I’d suppose this won’t be the only notable match on the card. We do know No Limit will be heading back to Japan soon after this match (maybe they’ll stay around a week to be bald in public), and CMLL will be taking two months off from doing anything starting 12/05.
CMLL also announced the formation of a new group, Los Cancerberos del Infierno. Not to be confused with Los Guerreros del Infierno, who are not to be confused with Los Guerreros Tuareg. Also, not to be confused with fellow hell theme groups Hijos del Averno & Los Inferanles (who are defunct; wait a paragraph.) “Cancerberos” is known in English as Cereberus, the three headed dog of hell. An evil dog, if you will. How did they ever come up with that one? Between this name, and Sunday’s recap dubbing Okumura’s finishing more “Okumura Special”, someone really needs to be spending time coming up with more distinct names.
Anyway, the three headed dogs of hell (who’ll probably be referred to as CdI until CMLL forgets they exist and stops booking them together) are:
– Virus (leader! hooray!)
– Euforia
– Polvora
– Cancerbero (yes, same name as the group)
– Raciel
Euforia and not Nosferatu. The Infernales are done, which presumably might stop them from getting any more Arena Coliseo tag team titles shots. Those two just teamed up Tuesday, but had not done that in DF for a long time prior, and that was Nosferatu’s first match in Arena Mexico in two months. Something happened, but I have no idea.
Quite a rise for Polvora, who’s was an opening match tag wrestler with a missing partner, did nothing except win a bodybuilding contest, and has since won a mask and gotten into a group. When that bodybuilding contest happens next week, and the pictures that turn up long wrong on many different levels and you wonder why they’d do this, you have to remember Polvora’s year.
Cancerbero (why introduce a new guy and a new group? so annoying) and Raciel were introduced as new wrestlers. Odds are, they’re opening match guys who’ll spend the next two months trying to ID. Does Raciel mean anything in Spanish? Only see it mentioned as an uncommon first name.
Still at the press conference, CMLL announced Flash would be changing his name and look, and now be called Fuego. Guessing a licensing issue.
CMLL also talked about the NJPW/CMLL alliance. Ultimo Guerrero (they can afford him!), Negro Casas, Sombra, Terrible, Texano, and Mistico are mentioned as heading to Japan, with Liger, Tanahashi, Nakamura, Tiger Mask IV and others going to CMLL. Still, treat this all as ideas and hopes until they actually are announced with dates.
Finally, they’ve got a new giveaway. If a person goes to one show a week in DF (any of the Tuesday/Friday/Sunday ones) from 12/01 to 03/13 (16 weeks) and keeps their ticket stubs, then they can trade those ticket stubs for…a chance at a 76 question quiz about the history of CMLL. The best score on the quiz will win…actually, I’m not sure. It’s not too clear. Google translates it to winning the prize department, which is probably not right.
Not sure how this would actually help ticket sales; the people who aren’t going to shows right now aren’t going to start going to one a week and to take a quiz. The people CMLL need to get back are actually the people who would fail those quizzes miserably. Their money is good too. The person who is going to inevitable win will be of the type who already goes to one (or more) shows every week. Hooray for them getting a prize out of it, at least.
And now that you’ve read next week’s Ras de Lona…
Juarez referee el Catrin passed away on Wednesday. He’d been paralyzed after a (ring?) accident a months ago, and died due to pneumonia. This Catrin was a long time Juarez fixture, and worked with AAA in the first year of their existence. Besides refereeing, he was also a local promoter of younger wrestlers. He was seen last month, watching his guys when they were working on the undercard of an AAA spot show, having arrived to the arena on a hospital gurney.
(He’s not the masked ref of the same name from Baja California, I think.)
As mentioned in the comments, MultimediosTV is rolling out on Time Warner stations in Los Anegles (it’s already in other places.) Included is 500 hours of Arena Coliseo Monterrey lucha libre, though one would assume they’re not putting it all up at once.
R de Rudo shows you Damian 666’s scars.
Veneno’s blog has Veneno (and others) on Mexico’s Next Top Model. Looks like they were doing a photo shoot in Arena Naucalpan.
