AAA #905 (09/26) – Verano de Escandalo, part 2

taped 08/21/2009

Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs El Elegido & Gronda II in a hardcore rules match – predictably useless. Magically how Gronda II wrestled the match as normal, then was a monster after the match. One more time for the gif:

protip: hook the arm
protip: hook the arm

I’m thinking Groon might give us a few more before his TV appearances are over.

Charly Manson vs Chessman in a street fight match (and part 2) – or, a death match. If that’s your thing, I think this might have actually been your thing. It’s not my thing.

Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Cibernético, El Mesías in a cage match for the AAA World Heavyweight Championship (and part 2)- better flaunting of the dumb rules here – Cibernetico climbing out of the cage, only to be told he’s can’t win at this point (and arguing it!), or Mesias and Wagner sitting on top of the cage and fighting, even though the rules of AAA cage escape means one or the other should’ve been awarded the match that point. Of all the things to take from the US, I wish they’d started with “you must get both feet on the floor to win”.

As noted in the comments, this match was better with Cibernetico in it. I believe that automatically disqualified Dr. Wagner from winning wrestler of the year. He and Mesias appeared to work the last half of the match as if to win a contest for least interesting match possible. If Wagner just stood back and let him go, would Mesias continue to climb the same corner of the cage, right by the WagnerManiacs, and get knocked down by the third time, for the rest of eternity? This seemed to last half as long as eternity.

Blanca retains, contract signing for 12 man match match

CMLL (TUE) 10/13 Arena Mexico [CMLL, ESTO, mt]
1) Rayo Tapatío II & Trueno b Camorra & Zayco
2) Delta, Metálico, Sensei b Bronco, Escorpion, Puma King
3) Princesa Blanca b Lady Apache [MEX WOMEN]
4) Máximo, Rouge, Toscano b Euforia, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
5) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr.

Blanca took falls 2 and 3 to retain. Doesn’t appear to be much in the way of story notes at this show. Or fans.

(Thanks to CMLL for bolding the winners, so I can be less dumb. Anyone else notice that not only is Fuego en el Ring covering Puebla, but suddenly so is CMLL’s website?)

Yujiro is excited for tomorrow’s main event, so he can win a hair just like Naito did.

The press conference for the 12 man mask match was not even held in the nice press conference area. (SuperLuchas also has photos.) That does seem about right for this crew. Wrestlers will be required to stay in the cage for 10 minutes, at least until they change their mind on Sunday.

Euforia has no idea if the Infernales are supposed to still be together. He’s assuming they are until CMLL tells him different, but they’re not telling him much and he hasn’t talked to Nosferatu much lately. That’s CMLL booking right there.

ESTO has an interview with the Psycho Circus, which is much the same as the most recent interview with the AAA site.

Blue Demon Jr. has an article on ESPN (and ESPNDeportes) that’s good in parts, but a bit rambling. I think it’s because it’s actually not really as much an article, but pulled from a video interview they were doing; it would explain why he goes from topic to topic. In one part, he talks about the bad business in Mexico, and blames it too much lucha on TV and the Mexico-based promotions not doing a good enough job.

Though it seems like the Mexican Powers are dead with Ultimo Gladiador joining Wagner’s group, Crazy Boy does is not letting a little thing like never being on TV stopping him from announcing plans for a new group, with young wrestlers.

Hablando de Catch has tons of photos of Arena Aficion.

Express Online profiles local (Ciudada Victoria) tag team champions Rocker Boy and Comando Extremo.

El Hijo del Santo is in Paris, promoting his new comic book.

A local wrestler on a Zacatecas show today is listed with the name “Teacher Sex“.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

AAA #904 (09/19) – Verano de Escandalo, part 1

taped 08/21/2009

No explanation, or even a hint that something’s changes, for the Psycho Clowns names or Ultimo Gladiador’s look or alignment. Six writers, you think one could bother.

Killer Murder Clown, Psycho Clown ©, Zombie Monster Clown vs Kenzo Suzuki ©, Oriental, Sugi – more anticlimactic finish? The Yakuza’s push or the end of this match?

Extreme Tiger vs Jack Evans and Rocky Romero and Teddy Hart and Alex Koslov for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship (and part 2) – hey, look a big injury angle that’ll be completely ignored the next show. Don’t see that often.

This picked up nicely down the stretch, and I’ve really been enjoying Koslov the last few weeks. He’s acting like a proper rudo, getting beat up and cheating to win, and it’s a big difference than the heel stuff on these shows.

La Parka Jr., Marco Corleone, Octagon vs Electroshock, Silver King, Ultimo Gladiador – this went exactly the right time; I appreciate them not trying to get everything in, because it usually drags when they do that and no one really needs to see everything (much less everything every match, because then it just turns into Teddy Hart’s Checklist of Moves.)

Aerostar vs Fabi Apache, Billy Boy, Sexy Star for the mask and a hair in a cage match (and part 2)- better than I expected; not the mess most lucha cage matches were, and better than the other one. Billy looks disinterested, but does hold up his end in the match, Fabi and Aero are good and Sexi Star is Sexi Star.

We spent 100x more discussing the foreign women than the impact they had on the show. They really could’ve picked any three women out of wrestling school and had them mean the same thing. (And since two seem not to be coming back, they might as well.) You don’t really need to fly good wrestlers in if they’re only going to stomp people for about a minute and not actually have wrestling matches. There were a lot cheaper ways to overshadow the finish here.

The Esther Moreno stuff is going to go into the pile of angle setups that went nowhere, right?

Puebla, GDL, Leon, 12 Corazones

CMLL (MON) 10/12 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Asturiano & King Jaguar b Alarido & Ares
2) Diamante & Guerrero Maya Jr. b Calígula & Méssala
3) Pequeño Damian 666 & Pequeño Warrior b Eléctrico & Tzuki
4) Volador Jr. b Mephisto, Averno, La Máscara, Texano, Valiente, Black Warrior, Sagrado, Ephesto, Máscara Dorada, Sangre Azteca, Flash [cibernetico]
5) La Sombra, Místico, Strong Man DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Niebla tried tossing his mask to Strong Man for the DQ, but the refs figured it out and DQed Niebla. Niebla challenged Strong Man to a singles match for next week, which would be remarkable. Kcidis already has an illustration of this.

Semimain did turn out to be a cibernetico. Volador was last tecnico standing against both Averno & Mephisto, but got the moonsault slam on Averno and a ‘rana on Mephisto for the win. Match was said to be good. Sangre/Dorada was the required double elimination pinfall.

CMLL (TUE) 10/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Informador, Fuego en el Ring]
1) Angelo & Saturno b Ebola & Egipcio
2) Acertijo & Malefico b Metal Blanco & Samurai
3) Ángel del Mal & Máscara Mágica b Gallo & Horus
4) Nosferatu & Vangelis b Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata
5) Héctor Garza, La Máscara, Strong Man b Naito, Terrible, Yujiro

Strong Man beat both of No Limit for the win.

Princesa Blanca retained the Mexican Women’s Championship last night. CMLL has photos but not results up.

AAA posted the lineup for the Monday Leon taping. Minis opener is Octagoncito/Divina/Charly vs Abismo/Psicosis/Histeria, and everything else is as it was.

Box Y Lucha says the other AAA teams on the 12 Corazones show were Sexi Star & Billy Boy, Fabi Apache & Aerostar, Estrellita & Elegido, Jenny (edecan?) & Gronda (!!), with Marco Corleone as one of the hosts. Clearly this show isn’t fixed, because there’s no way Brazo & Hechicera win over those couples unless it somehow legit. Plenty of pictures here, but of course video is blocked for people in the US. Looks like there was a random Gran Apache/Billy Boy fight, as tends to happen. It does appear like it’s all Elegido’s fault that Estrellita still isn’t making it back onto TV.

Early previews for Friday’s hair match: Ovaciones, Box Y Lucha.

The Gladiatores has an interview with Ultimo Dragon about his career.

The random Japanese women with Bushi on last Sunday’s IWRG show were Revolucion Amandra, Atsuko Emoto, Tomoka Nakagawa, and Kyoko Kimura, who will be wresting with IWRG and on a mystery Toryumon show over the next two weeks. I think Emoto is wrestling for CHIKARA (just not as Emoto) this weekend.

LuchandoLibre points to Tiger Mask IV talking about Canek.

There’s a lucha libre reality show airing in Tampico, though it sounds less like reality and more like people pretending to be real. Which is a lot like reality shows, actually.

Gotonami’s lucha libre lineup blog is moving to http://jikolucha.blog18.fc2.com/.

Cronicas y Leyendas de la Lucha Libre looks back at Nitron and Liger in 1991.

Luchas2000 491 previews the upcoming CMLL stip matches, and also has an interview with Groon XXX. Groon says he expected to be in the main events like the star he clearly is, so when AAA had him third from the top facing an imposter, they were totally disrespecting him. (Where did Groon work on the Perros show? Third from the top.) Groon spends 2/3rs of the interview ripping AAA, then says Esther Moreno (past/current? significant other) is staying with AAA. Maybe not after that interview, plus I’d guess Esther was brought back just to sweeten the deal for Groon.

Speaking of Perros del mal, they have their own facebook page, with a promise of updating their website “soon”. They’re still saying the first episode airs Saturday at 9pm Central Time on Canal 4 Televisa. Right now, Televisa lists that slot as the last half hour of La Rosa del Caribe. Something’s not right here; if Morales and Riano were not at the TV taping, and if the Perro weren’t so insistent about the show (to the point where they’re going to look bad if it doesn’t come off), I’d think this was all made up. On the other hand, it’s not like Televisa is ever that good about listings.

Totally random story of the day: Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors (that’s basketball), successfully sued someone who had registered the chrisbosh.com domain and was holding it hostage. You’re not allowed to domain squat other people’s names, and so Bosh and his legal team got the rights to that domain…plus all the other domains they were hording. Most of it’s basketball players, but there’s MMA fighters and other completely random names. Most random? eloctagon.com! AAA ought to either read this post or this pdf, since Bosh’s people are giving this all back to the rightful people for free.

10/17 AAA TV Lineup (Cuernavaca)

AAA TV (SAT) 10/17 Auditoio Teopanzolco, Cuernavaca [AAA]
1) Billy Boy & Sexy Star vs El Brazo & La Hechicera
2) Cinthia Moreno, Fabi Apache, Mari Apache vs Jennifer Blake, Nikki Roxx, Rain
3) El Mesías & Marco Corleone vs ? & Chessman
4) Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz vs El Elegido, La Parka Jr., Pimpinela Escarlata
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Electroshock, Silver King vs Monster Clown, Murder Clown, Psycho Clown

(AAA doesn’t mention the building as I type this, but Auditoio Teopanzolco is where they ran back in February.)

2009 AAA TV Chart – which will be out of date for a bit
Projected Air Date (#910)
Mexico: 10/25
US: 11/07

The idea of the main event is the Clowns asked for bigger matches, so they got one they might not be able to handle. I…don’t really care one way or another. There are surely better ways to end the Clowns winning streak, but it’s not like they’re headed to any of them. AAA reminds us that Wagner (and Marco and Laredo) almost beat the Psycho Clowns last time they met, but he pinned Zombie/Monster and not captain Psycho.

In another case of “being listed high on the card doesn’t mean they’re actually doing anything with you”, it’s the Dark Family! Would kinda bet on it being dropped to the tercera by the time it happens. In fact, if Parka wasn’t involved, I’d totally put the women in the semimain spot – if this is as big story as they’ve been treating it via run-ins, why not at least start it out at a high spot on the card?

There’s no hint on the lineup as to Chessman’s partner, but look at the Leon lineup and you’ve got three good strong guesses. At least they’re going to show Chessman getting tied up with his new group.

This is the women trios that actually works, so I guess they just didn’t want to do the same match twice in weekend. And it also makes sense that the women are in when they run 2 TVs in 3 days. Doesn’t actually mean Goddess makes sense, but ok.

Brazo and Hechicera both make their returns to TV after, and I may have this wrong, they won a one off dancing contest on a reality show (and won a cruise too.) From the photo I saw, the other team includes Estrellita – so you’re getting La Hechicera instead. Life is unfair.

Trios defense in IWRG, Mistico returns to NJPW, Ras de Lona

IWRG (SUN) 10/11 Arena Naucalpan [DJ Spectro]
1) Keshin Black b Imperial
2) Eragon & Star Boy b Maldito Jr. & Samoth
3) Fantasma de la Ópera & Gringo Loco b Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
4) Bushi, Negro Navarro, Trauma I b Avisman, Fantasma de la Ópera, Jack
5) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Chico Che, Exodia, Mike Segura [EdM Trios]

Suicida replaced Rigo. Match was said to be pretty good.

(Strong Style Spirit) NJPW’s announced Mistico will defend the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship versus Tiger Mask V on 11/08 in Sumo Hall. That means he probably misses the 11/06 Arena Mexico show.

Ras de Lona #67 notes:
– Ultimo Dragoncito was in a car accident on Saturday
– Val Venis (still spelled Vines) debuts on 11/06
– Flash does not live up to his gimmick on a go cart! What a failure. I wasn’t as surprised by Tiger Kid losing the rudo race. Even with the mask, he looks like he can be legally old enough to drive.

Record talks to Perro Aguayo Jr., who wants a hair vs mask match with Park after he disrespected Perro Sr. Perro promises more stars coming to his group. Record also has a preview of their monthly magazine, with a feature on LA Park.

Mistico vows to be a tecnico as long as he’s alive.

Angel de Oro was as surprised to be in the 12 man cage match as Dr. X.

A news story on Konnan kidnapping Dorian Roldan. Meanwhile, Konnan tells Vanguardia everyone but Zorro & Chessman are hiding their shortcomings thru gimmicks. Isn’t that sort of the idea? Anyway, today he’s decided Chessman is the future of the business, and he hopes the Legion wins all the belts in 2010.

Ovaciones previews Lady Apache title match tonight with a picture of Fabi Apache. Oops. ESTO goes with Princesa Blanca with the belt. I’m thinking no change today.

AAA says Sugi is hurt again, though it may just be part of the finish at the last taping, and has photos of Sexi Star in Dos de Tres

La Union has Ricky Cruz in what was Guerrero Maya Jr.’s spot for the Pierroth benefit show, later this month.

Fighting Spirit Distribution, the company who brought the CMLL workers to Monaco for their sports television marketing convention, has interesting facts about CMLL on their website. Arena Mexico always sells out it shows, but for CMLL’s biggest events, they run an 80,000 person building. How am I missing writing about 80,000 people shows? Totally dropping the ball.

(Are they even going to draw 80,000 this entire month to Arena Mexico? Thinking no.)

A Meican lucha exhibit is coming to the Mexican consulate in Montreal tomorrow until 11/09.

Cronicas and Leyendas de la Lucha Libre writes about Matematico in Panama and the first manager of the Killer.

Ohtani’s Jacket and Raging Noodles check out Dandy & Ultimo Vampiro vs Negro Navarro & Pantera from 4/4/02 IWRG.

indy (THU) 10/15 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio [el siglo de torreon]
1) Pequeno Star & Super Star vs Brillante & New Warrior
2) Arana del Futuro & Mr. Guerrero vs Cesar Garza & Dorada Jr.
3) Blue Panther & Conflictus vs Mr. Niebla & Psycho
4) Último Guerrero vs Yujiro [CMLL HEAVY]
