A short note about Arena Mexico closing time

Mostly because I think we have this wrong. Or confused.

Yujiro & Warrior finished at 11:16
Ultimo Guerrero & Jushin Liger ended at 11:42
Mistico & Negro ended at 11:30, and they were still chatting in the ring as late as 11:36
Naito beat Toscano at 11:30
Villano V name was revealed at 11:14

Got these times off my twitter updates, so they’re probably a minute or two late. And I had to convert hourts a little bit. But the takeaway points are

– Yujiro and Warrior going short was a choice by someone, not a result of the rest of the show going long
– you could probably say the same about many other show main events
– I’m totally lost as to when the cut off time is (and so I may still be wrong about the first two points)

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#910)
Mexico: 10/25
US: 11/07

The episode of TV where they do all the angles for the next cycle. They got it out of the way quick.

To begin the show, Konnan offered to return Dorian – if Roldan reinstated Alex Koslov. I don’t know about you, but if that was my son, that would’ve taken .00001 seconds to decide. Of course, it goes on for the show.

Billy Boy & Sexi Star managed to win the battle of the couples.

No Nikki Roxx – Goddess was introduced as a member of the Legion instead. Fabi pinned Goddess clean with a German suplex, Blake and Rain turned on her, and the tecnicas made the save. This explains why she’s a tecnica, at least.

3rd match wasn’t on the lineup. Hijo de Tirantes is back to being a rudo. Roldan is supposed to fire him if he was a rudo again, but I bet this leads to Hijo de Tirantes joining the Legion again. Air Force got destroyed, no sense of any Super Fly rudo turn, except if he wants to be angry about taking the pin when Laredo was too busy being dead.

Right here, in turned into open mic night. First, it was Cibernetico responding to Konnan. Cibernetico brought up Konnan leaving in 1996 and trying to destroy the company, but Cibernetico stayed because he had principles, the same principles that caused him to leave when Konnan got in charge last year, and the same principles the people of Mexico have. Yea, he’s a tecnico again.

Next, Mesias appeared in street clothes, saying he was too hurt from the last taping to wrestle today. If you recall, that was the taping where he was hurt, told not to wrestle, and wrestled anyway. So either he got smarter in the last week (doubtful) or plans changed for the next match.

Instead of Mesias/Marco vs Chessman/?, they just did Marco vs Chessman with no mention of a mystery man. At the end of the match, a masked man – looking very similar to the masked man who kidnapped Dorian – fouled Marco. Unfortunately for him, the masked man did not have a sound exit strategy, and the AAA tecnicos cut him off before he could run away. The masked man was unmasked as Alex Koslov. Konnan appeared, threatening violence to Dorain if Alex wasn’t freed. Dorian is the 2009 version of Antonio Pena’s urn.

For reasons unclear to me, Ozz made friends with the tecnicos after taking the loss. Cuervo and Scoria got ticked and walked out on him. Of all the shows where the Dark Family were on the shows doing absolutely nothing of note, the show with 500 things is the time to do this bit?

Crowd was behing the WagnerManiacs in the main event. Silver King was left alone in the ring with one of the Clowns, but was distracted by Konnan, Rain and Blake, then beat for the win. Legion interference sets up Monday’s main event, but Clowns going with the Legion might actually be useful.

Mexico results, Box Y Lucha

CMLL (FRI) 10/16 Arena Mexico [box y lucha, SuperLuchas, ESTO]
1) Molotov & Starman b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei b Estrella Mágica, Lluvia, Marcela
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Volador Jr. b Averno [lightning]
5) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man DQ Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Yujiro b Black Warrior [hair]

Main event went under 7 minutes (the 11:15 time limit in action)

Box Y Lucha posted a lot of articles on Friday, including interviews with Dr. Wagner Jr., Tirantes, Psicosis II, Xtreme Tiger, Sexi Star, Hiroka, CMLL trainee Acuarius, CMLL trainee Insolito, and Chipas area champ Rey Persa. Plus, Villano III talks about learning to stick up wounds.

Newspaper rankings for AAA wrestlers have Sexi Star 1st, evil Zorro 5th, and good Zorro 10th.

DJ Spectro has a good post about the different types of referees.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 10/20 Arena Mexico
1) Apolo Estrada Jr. & Sensei vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Dr. X, Hooligan, Nitro vs Astro Boy, Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman
3) Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito vs Bracito de Oro, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada
4) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Toscano vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Virus
5) Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

The segunda has 3 of the 12. I’ve been leaning towards Hooligan as my pick for loser, but would he really just show up 2 days later without a mask? (Yea, maybe.) Minis match has a good spot though not the best lineup. They haven’t done No Limit/V5 vs Avernos before – usually they’re together. Hmmm.

CMLL (FRI) 10/23 Arena Mexico
1) Yezca & Zeuxis vs Estrella Mágica & Lluvia
2) Pequeño Damian 666 vs Bam Bam [lightning]
3) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca vs Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Valiente
4) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro vs Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Héctor Garza
5) Averno vs Volador Jr. [NWA MIDDLE]
6) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

How do they determine which middleweight title it is? Coin flip? Does Averno just reach into a dark closet, and it’s whatever title he pulls out.

Lots of rematches – 3, 4 (maybe it’ll be Garza/Panther? vs No Limit – building new stars!!), 5, 6, and they’ve done the lightning match before. That opener is also exciting for all the wrong reasons.

CMLL (SUN) 10/25 Arena Mexico
1) Inquisidor & Semental vs Bengala & Trueno
2) Amapola, La Nazi, La Seductora vs Estrella Mágica, Marcela, Zeuxis
3) Leono, Starman, Tony Rivera vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Máximo, Sagrado, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro

And, he’s back. There was some talk that AAA had taken ownership of “Brazo de Plata” (and “Super Porky”), and CMLL was staying away from all ex-AAA guys who didn’t own their names. Doesn’t appear to be the case, but it’s something worth watching.

Poder Mexica should not be succesfully teaming with Okumura.

We can add Arkangel and Skandalo to those working the next week, which leaves:

  • Flash
  • Tiger Kid
  • Ángel de Oro
  • Pegasso
  • Tigre Blanco
  • Rey Cometa
  • Pólvora

None of those 7 are scheduled for Puebla. We don’t have a Tuesday lineup for GDL yet.

Actual News Item: CMLL.com confirms that Misterioso II is in and Black Warrior is out of Poder Mexica. No mention of where this leaves the Mexican National Trios Titles.

10/16 Arena Mexico – Black Warrior vs Yujiro occasionally live results

SuperLuchas is doing live results, covering the stuff I wasn’t around to listen to. EstadioW seems to have been going for quite some time. Crowd is loud.

CMLL (FRI) 10/16 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Starman b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei b Estrella Mágica, Lluvia, Marcela
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Volador Jr. b Averno [lightning]

As expected, Volador asked for the mask match. Averno decided to distract him by offering a title match too. No one said the name of the title, which makes me believe neither man could remember what title Averno has. It took me a second to remember Averno still had a title.

I wish I hadn’t messed up the poll. Oh well.

Random interesting article to keep you busy in between results. I always tell my groupies not to do interviews, but what are you going to do. (It gets less interesting from there.)

5) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man DQ Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

  • tecnicos win fall one
  • UG fouls Strong Man in fall 2.

6) Yujiro b Black Warrior [hair]

  • Okumura &  Dragon Rojo are seconds.
  • Black Warrior wins a super quick first fall
  • Yujiro wins a slightly longer second fall
  • Warrior started off the third fall with a big dive, which caused the non Julio Cesar Rivera announcer to see how long he could hold a single note. A couple times.
  • Yujiro gets the win to mild boos. Couldn’t have been more than 15 minutes, probably less.
  • Doesn’t seem like they’re doing anything post match. So that’s it.

Mexico Preview, lucha libre premier

(Facebook site is gone. Hooray. Though you could’ve just emailed me to work something out. I’m actually OK with people not on this site reading stuff I wrote, as long as it’s clear I wrote it – or whomever wrote it, in the case of the links – and some way of pointing people back towards me if they want more)

CMLL (FRI) 10/16 Arena Mexico

2) Estrella Mágica, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Volador Jr. vs Averno [lightning]
5) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Black Warrior vs Yujiro [hair]

Can’t think of anything good to say about this show. Yujiro will probably win. Not many people will be there to see it. Regardless of who loses, someone who has a longer term future for CMLL should be winning (Dr. Lucha speculated Warrior may just be about done with lucha libre), but it’s not as though there are long term plans.

Semimain is a trailer for the Sunday match. Volador/Averno probably will end in a mask challenge, but there’s no reason to believe they’re actually going somewhere with it. It probably would be really good for one or the another to actually win the mask, because neither really has much of a significant mask/hair win, but that’s not how things go here. Tercera should be rally good, but it looks to be in a non-air spot unless TDN picks up. I wonder if Estrella Magica will actually air this time.

IWRG (THU) 10/15 Arena Naucalpan [EdR]
2) Eragon & Jack b Epidemia & Heavy Boy
3) Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Rojo, La Rata b Bushi, Exodia, Pendulo
4) Emoto Atzuki, Kimura Kioko, Nakagawa b Diabolico, Flor Metalica, Josseline
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Oficials retain. Women’s trios instead of the Gringo Loco/Hombre Bala Jr. match.

LuchandoLibre says AAA will indeed be taping the next Lucha Libre Premier on 10/23 in Mexico City.

El Sol de Cuautla has an interview with AAA mini tecnicos. Mini Charly Manson says he may actually defend his title sometime soon.

Mesias visited a sick child in the hospital, which is very nice of him. Mesias promised the kid he’d win back the AAA title, which is not nice of him – no more Mesias/Wagner, for the sake of the children, please.

Vangelis figures 2010 is the year he’s going to beat Mistico to win the National Light Heavyweight title. It’s great that he’s never given up on this. If only someone else was aware of this concept. Vangelis was disappointed the Gran Alternativa turned out like it did, but figures if he’s really good, he’ll get opportunities. Vangelis also thanks god more times than you’d expect for a Nazi.

Hijo del Santo is now in Belgium to promote his comic. They published it in French and Flemish for Belgium.

DTU inaugurations it’s new school on 11/19 with a wrestling show. Main event is Electroshock vs Negro Navarro.

A grade school had an assembly on water conversation, ending with a lucha libre match. The rudo tried to encourage the children to waste water, but was soundly beat.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news junket and the latest Slammin’ Stan.

10/17-18 Lucha Times

If you’re reading this on Facebook, HELLO. Someone’s ripping of my RSS feed. It’s kinda lame! You should unfriend this person! Let’s all hit the Report Page link and see what happens!

Also, the other guy who’s posting these on a newsboard without even giving me a link, please correct yourself before I remember what site it is I’m talking about.

box. I’m not sure if you can tell, but I’m still sick. And bored with it.

I wasn’t going to put Perros del Mal on the chart, because I have no idea what to do with it. I figured I don’t know what to do with most of this anyway, and I still guess. Here’s what we know: Perros del Mal says they’re on 4TV at 9 pm on Saturday. No one else has said that. That’s about it. We don’t even know how long the show is!

AAA-US: If I’ve got this right, it’s the AAA Heavyweight Title, the AAA Cruiserweight Title, and the end of Groon XXX in AAA. Also, the new AAA production. I think I’m not going to get done watching this past week’s AAA yet so I don’t have to have an opinion on this yes.

52MX: Panther/Shocker/Strong MAN vs Guerreros/Niebla plus exciting Leono action

CMLL: starts at 4, only 45 minutes. Thought they might skip the hair match anyway, and that gives them the oppurtinty. Maybe just the lightihg match and the Mistico trios.

FOX-CMLL: Pesta Negra/Sangre vs Mascara/Mascara/Sagrada, plus minis

FOX-AAA: nothing this weekend, which saves them effort of the (required?) rerun. If they’re showing a new one every other week, that makes the last show from the first taping airs next week, and they’ve got to actually tape a new show soon.

AAA was advertising tapings for 10/23 (DF) and 10/30 (Veracruz? mind is blanking, so I may have screwed a date too) this past week on their TV in addition the two they’ve already announced. That’d put them very far ahead on tapings. I’m betting the 10/23 show is either a spot show with extra promotion, or the next Lucha Libre Premiere taping. There’s no Ticketmaster listing, or anything on AAA.com about it yet, but I suppose we’ll find out soon.

C3: Blanca vs Apache and other stuff. Has Escorpion’s already made TV more in CMLL than AAA?

Perros: Ok, if I’m running this show, Perro Junior and the main event has to air on the first show, has to air. But then what do you do with the other match? One of the opening card matches (which might not grab people) or one of the other top 3 matches (which doesn’t leave you much for week 2)? Or are their multiple matches? Or are their a week 2? 48 hours out, and we don’t know.

One thing I don’t know – does 4TV have a web feed? It’s never come up before.

Puebla: uh…no segunda. Which leave locals, minis, cibernetico, Strong Man/Mistico/Sombra

Monterrey: I am never right.
