10/23 AAA/LLP Lineup (Mexico City)

AAA (FRI) 10/23 Teatro Condesa, DF []luchalibreaaa]
1) Jennifer Blake, Octagóncito, Rocky Romero vs Decnnis, Mini Abismo Negro, Sexy Star
2) Fabi Apache & Pimpinela Escarlata vs Polvo de Esterllas & Rain
3) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Jack Evans vs Alex Koslov & Teddy Hart
4) Cibernético, Electroshock, Kenzo Suzuki vs El Elegido, El Mesías, Marco Corleone

Lucha Libre Premier #2
MEX: 11/08?, 11/22?
US: uh, never?

This looks like the next Lucha Libre Premier taping. It’s theatre instead of a normal buidling (though not one I can seem to find on Google.) It’s four matches, the same as the last FSE taping and unlike the normal shows.

AAA hasn’t announced a additional Saturday taping, so maybe they’re going to do tapings more often? Or maybe they’ll figure that out as they go. Since every new show gets reaired the following week, this could last them a month.

Jennifer Blake on the tecnico side of the opener makes no real sense – that should be Goddess or Cinthia or Mari – but I’d guess they’ve decided that if they’re paying for her to be there, they need to use her. Wagner being a tecnico on occasioan is not new, but Cibernetico still appears to be on the rudo side.

3rd match could be pretty fun.

Puebla results, Porky in GDL

CMLL (MON) 10/19 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Black Tiger & Lestat b Fuerza Chicana & Siki Osama
2) Delta, Diamante, Horus b Disturbio, Durango Kid, Escorpion
3) Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei b Lluvia, Marcela, Star Fire
4) La Sombra, Valiente, Volador Jr. b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Shocker, Strong Man, Toscano b Atlantis, Karisma, Último Guerrero

Karissma, not seen here since May, replaced a MIA Mr. Niebla. Strong Man took out UG with a powerbomb again. Volador, feuding with Averno on Fridays, pinned Mephisto.

SuperLuchas notes CMLL’s altered lineup for tonight’s Guadalajara lineup.

CMLL (TUE) 10/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino & Saturno vs Acertijo & Ebola
2) Hierro & Palacio Negro vs Ángel del Mal & Drago
3) Lady Apache & Marcela vs Hiroka & Princesa Blanca
4) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máximo vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Brazo de Plata, Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Black Warrior, Terrible, Texano Jr.

The big news is Super Porky has been added to the main event. It was originally a tag match, and Black Warrior is added to the rudo side. SuperLuchas notes, with the addition of Porky, Super Porky and soon Val Venis, CMLL has bulked up it’s heavyweight division (in the strangest, most eclectic way possible.) I would guess Brazo de Plata doesn’t work that IWRG and Perros date. This seems like a late change, because ESTO has an article up promoting Sunday’s show as his debut.

Besides the great stuff with Dragon Rojo, Misterioso, Stuka, and Fantsama in France and Monaco, Ras de Lona mentioned Blanca suffered a waist (maybe tailbone) injury in her title match with Lady Apache. It sounded like she was going to be out a while, so I’m surprised to see her listed here.

Ovaciones also notes IWRG will be reopening up a restaurant on the outside of Arena Naucalpan. It’ll be renamed in honor of Adolofo Moreno, who passed away last year.

Fuego en el Ring has an interview with Dragon Rojo, who has nothing against the people of Guadalajara, but wants them to know the wrestlers from La Laguna are clearly better. He unmasked Mictlan and will do bad things to Mascara Dorada if the lightweight champ crosses him. Angel de Oro is less interesting.

An artist blog has illustrations of Kid Salvaje, a lucha libre spin on Where The Wild Things Are. There’s no publisher, but the art looks great.

Al Filo del Ring writes about what tickets give the rights to the fans to do and what they do not.

Kcidis has defeated Black Warrior and a cheery Monito.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#911)
US: 11/01
Mexico: 11/14

A minimal of notable events here.

Mini Charly picked up the win on Mini Psicosis in the minis match.

With no Nikki Roxx, the women’s match was changed to a tag. Rudas won, but Goddess turned up to attack them post match.

Guapito is using a walker, after the Herminadad killed him in the cage match. Decnnis vowed revenge, and got killed. So did Tiger.

4th match was just a match. AAA recaps are high on Pimpi this weekend.

Mesias, who was too hurt to wrestle on Saturday, is noted as being in perfect physical condition in the semimain. Hmmm. Cibernetico worked as a rudo and was booed, but his team still won when Zorro caned Parka and Hijo de Tirantes allowed it. Did Zorro only get a win so they could point out how Hijo de Tirantes is rudo again? I know that’s a vastly cynical way of looking at the series of events, but I think I shall go with it.

Chessman isn’t definitely stated as being in the Legion, just being allied with them here. Main event turns into a hardcore brawl, and Konnan gets his team DQed by fouling Wagner and pulling his mask.

After the match, Konnan cut a promo on Cibernetico. His point this time seems to be “Cibernetico is a star, because Mexicans don’t know who real stars are (me)”. Cibernetico, now cheered by the crowd, came out to brawl, but security kept them separated. You don’t want people fighting on a lucha libre show. Actually, I’m not sure you want those two fighting at all, but I don’t think we can avoid that.

AAA ends the recap saying the non-fight left the audience wondering what would happen if “the two biggest icons in the history of AAA” were to fight. I can’t decide who should feel most dissed by that hype – Parka? Octagon? Misterio? Maybe they should go with the two biggest rudos in the history of AAA, because at least Abismo isn’t around to be offended.

It doesn’t get said enough, but it is pretty great to get same day (even live!) taping results. I’d hope they’d mention the taping on Friday. If they even have a taping on Friday; Ovaciones today says it’s October 31st, which makes me wonder about the 10/30 taping. Confused.

Tuesday shows back to Coliseo, Guadalajara, Coacalco, AULL, lineups

DJ Spectro says CMLL wil be moving Tuesday shows back to Arena Coliseo. I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere,

Tiger Blanco/CMLL
Tiger Blanco/CMLL

but this would be surprising. CMLL has seemed to move away from running shows at Arena Coliseo, despite horrible attendance for most Tuesday shows. The only reasons I could ever come up with for running Arena Mexico is CMLL either makes more money with the same attendance in Arena Mexico than in Coliseo (because there rarely was a crowd that would’ve sold out Coliseo), or that Cadena3 specifically requested Arena Mexico for TV reasons. Whatever the reason, something had to change. This does not seem like it’s in effect for tomorrow’s show, and I don’t see any indication of a change on CMLL.com

You know, that paragraph up there assumes they’re running shows at Arena Colieso and not Arena Mexico. More I think about it, less safe I feel about that assumption. It’d be really insane (and inane) but…

LuchaLibreUSA now lists the Dallas show as 12/03, instead of Thursday.

CMLL (SUN) 10/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Cometa b Principe Dylan
2) Relampago Azul & Skaxy b El Divino & Virgo
3) Egipcio & Leon Blanco b Rafaga & Samurai [Relevos Increíbles]
4) Metal Blanco & Neutrón CO Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
5) Blue Panther & La Máscara b Misterioso II & Sangre Azteca
6) Atlantis, Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino b Héctor Garza, Máscara Dorada, Shocker

Dragon Rojo Jr. snuck off Dorada’s mask at the end of the third fall, and pinned him for the win. Semifinal was clean for the tecnicos.

Egipcio and Leon Blanco worked together in the third match, so they won. After the match, Infierno ran in to attack Samurai, and Magnum got involved as well.

PROLLM (SUN) 10/18 Coliseo Coacalco [EdR]
1) Mr. Surf DRAW Cyrus
2) Jeque b Stigma, Eterno, Daga, Betos Boy, Lobo Metalico, Wotam, Forastero, Niebla Negra I, Niebla Negra II [cibernetico]
3) Ephesto, Euforia, Virus b Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata, Diamante
4) Mr. Niebla & Shigeo Okumura b Ephesto & Justiciero
5) Magnifico b Judas el Traidor [hair]

12th Anniversary show. Of course Magnifico (and his Bret Hart gear???) is winning on this show. Also, 300% more CMLL wrestlers than usual.

AULL? (SAT) 10/17 Arena Lopez Mateos [EdR, DJ Spectro]
1) Black Crazy, Rey, Spider Boy b Doom, Red Devil, Tormenta
2) Pendulo, Platino, Solar Jr. b Belcebu, Trauma I, Trauma II
3) Black Terry & Solar I DRAW Negro Navarro & Rambo
4) Hijo de Rey Misterio, Huracan Ramirez, Olímpico b Pierko el Boricua, Speulcro, X-Fly
5) Pierroth II L Canek Jr., Jaque Mate Jr., Fishman Jr., El Hijo De Huracan Ramirez, Septiembre el Terrorista, Gran Markus Jr., Hijo de Máscara Año 2000, Hijo del Cien Caras [mask, cage]

Pierroth II is Isacc Pedro Gonzalez Nunez, 38 years old, from Sacramento, California. He’s had this gimmick for 5 years and, of course, is not related to Pierroth. He’s also changing his name to Anticristo – or what it was before he had the mask. Canek Jr. gets credit for the win.

AAA (SUN) 10/11 Poliforum Juan Gabriel, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua [KrisZ
1) Mini Histeria, Polvo de Esterllas, Sexy Star b Fabi Apache, Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Pimpinela Escarlata
2) Murder Clown, Psycho Clown , Zombie Clown b El Elegido, Extreme Tiger, Laredo Kid
3) Dr. Wagner Jr. b El Mesías, Cibernético [AAA HEAVY]

KrisZ has this as an ultra rare defense of this title off TV.

AULL (SUN) 10/18 Arena Lopez Mateos [EdR]
1) Dragon Chino & Super Halcon Jr. b Mr. Flama & Rey Kristal
2) Silver Cat I & Silver Cat II b Iron Love & Super Panda [AULL TAG]
3) Robin Maravilla, Sadico, Yakuza b Angel o Demonio, Leon Rojo, Ovett [AULL TRIOS]
4) Sepulturero I b Kung Fu Jr. [AULL HEAVY]

Night of champions, though no lightweight title defense. I thought there was supposed to be a main event trios, but Estrella del Ring says the Heavyweight title match was the main event.

SuperLuchas notes the Volador/Averno lightning match, with a 10 minute time limit, went 10:59.

Negro Casas talked to ESTO about his hair loss; he’s not considering it a defeat, because it was one of his best matches and was so tough.

Was there a reason for Sahori disappearing that I missed? She hasn’t been on a lineup since July.

There’s a cool lucha t-shirt for sale at that link.

Lineups

CMLL (TUE) 10/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro & Saturno vs Ebola & Katana
2) Angelo & Magnum vs Acertijo & Drago
3) Hierro & Neutrón vs Ángel del Mal & Infierno
4) Blue Panther, La Máscara, Máximo vs Euforia, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza & Shocker vs Terrible & Texano Jr.

Terrible & Texano team up a lot here but never seem to defend their tag titles.

IWRG (THU) 10/22 Arena Naucalpan
1) Comando Negro vs Halcon 2000
2) Exodia vs La Rata
3) Bushi & Pendulo vs El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco
4) Brazo de Plata, Chico Che, Suicida vs Black Terry, Pirata Morgan, Tóxico
5) Flor Metalica vs Atsuko Emoto [hair]

Random hair match. More of interest is Brazo de Plata working here, when he’s supposed to be working CMLL on Sunday. He probably needs to work, but working both isn’t usually allowed. Well, at least he’s not scheduled to work with the Perros, that’d be trouble.

CMLL (SUN) 10/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Idolo & Metatrón vs Nube Roja & Thunder Boy
2) Palacio Negro & Saturno vs Ángel del Mal & Exterminador
3) Asesino Negro & Leon Blanco vs Egipcio & Infierno
4) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
5) Hijo del Fantasma, Místico, Strong Man vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Exterminador is back for the first time in 4 months. Tercera is a rudo/rudo battle.

IWRG (SUN) 10/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dinamic Black vs Guizmo
2) Diva Salvaje & Miss Gaviota vs Carta Brava Jr. & Hijo del Signo
3) Chico Che & Hombre Bala Jr. vs Avisman & Fantasma de la Ópera
4) Flor Metalica, Josseline, La Diabólica vs Atsuko Emoto, Kyoko Kimura, Tomoko Nakagawa
5) Oficial 911 & Trauma I vs Black Terry & Negro Navarro and Sangre Chicana & Suicida and Oficial Fierro & Trauma II [Relevos Increíbles]

Four way random partners main event. Wonder where they’re going with it.

Perros (FRI) 10/30 Arena Morelos
1) Elvis Porky, LA Park, Super Parka vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Halloween

HMMMMM. By tomorrow, there’ll be a Santo/Porky lineup.

10/18 Mexico Results, Perros del Mal

I’m going to save most things for tomorrow, but the two necessary things:

CMLL (SUN) 10/18 Arena Mexico [Cesar, DJ Spectro]
1) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000 b Bam Bam, Máscara Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico
2) Heavy Metal, Naito, Terrible b Metro, Toscano, Volador Jr.
3) Strong Man DQ Último Guerrero
4) Tigre Blanco L Pólvora, Ángel de Oro, Arkangel de la Muerte, Flash, Skándalo, Rey Cometa, Dr. X, Pegasso, Tiger Kid, Hooligan, Astro Boy [cage, mask]

The cage match is listed in reverse order of escape (so Astro Boy was out first, Hooligan, etc.) When it got down to the final for, Arkangel helped Polvora, then snuck out on him. Angel de Oro did something similar to Tigre Blanco. Blanco/Polvora had a four minute match, with Polvora hitting (I think) the wheelbarrow powerbomb for the win.

Tigre Blanco is Sergio Guzman Silva, 35 years, 15 years a wrestler, from Mexico City. He hid his face from the cameras and hurried to the back; I’d guess that means someone specific was supposed to get the first shot. A quick search on Google doesn’t turn up anything interesting for that name. As this was a Sunday show, and all the mags (and magazine shows) go to print on Saturday, it might be a bit before we get the picture and What’s Next interview.

Edit: SuperLuchas has Tiger Blanco unmasked.

Strong Man won in straight falls. He won the first fall clean, then hit his Strong Bomb in the second. Ultimo Guerrero threw his mask at him in desperation and Strong Man caught it, but referee Pompin saw UG throwing the mask and called for the correct disqualification. The story is Strong Man might not have gotten the pinfall win, but he otherwise dominated him. They’re getting behind him. Cesar says this was Strong Man’s best match since coming in.

DJ Spectro is low on this show, saying it came in under 2 hours and there was very little good wrestling. He also wonders if Heavy Metal was drunk in his match. I’d question the sobriety of who booked the match; why not get behind Volador 1/8th as much as they’ve gotten behind Strong Man, and have him win a couple matches leading up his big matches on Friday? It’s as if whomever is booking Sunday and Tuesday go out of their way to even out the results from the main show.

DJ Spectro estimates the crowd at 4,000, and that’s a pretty believable number given the crowd. Now, this same show in Arena Coliseo, with the 12 in the cage instead in trios matches, would’ve drawn 1/3rd to 1/4th that number, so maybe someone can claim it as a success. It certainly doesn’t look that way when they’re playing to 25% full buildings, while the WWE was around 95% for their shows here.

The other important news is the Perros del Mal show aired, with no commercials, at the announced 10:30 time. Alan mentions in the comments that it was 5th (Cassandro) and 8th (main) matches from the 10/11 taping, with teases for the 6th and 7th next week. No commercials means they’re buying the time, and there’s no a good history of buying TV time working out; their only shot is they impress Televisa with a strong ratings number for this spot. That’s going to be tough, given the promotion they did for the show.

Stuff which will have more detail tomorrow
– Pierroth II lost his mask in the big “2nd Generation” mask match; he’s the ex-Anticristo, of no relation to Pierroth
– IWRG has booked a completely pointless Flor Metalica vs one of the Joshi girls mask match for Thursday. I don’t think I’m running a poll.

12 Mask Match Preview

No point in doing a person by person why/why not preview. There’s zero story reason why one person should be the winner or one person should be the loser. It’s not even especially clear why these 12 men were picked for the cage match – why Flash and not Stuka? why Puma King and not Tiger Kid? why Tigre Blanco and not Metalico? why every masked Tuareg member but not Nitro? That last would’ve actually been an interesting idea – after months and months of Tuareg trios taking on tecnico trios, a cage match as the big blow off would’ve made a lot of sense. Unfortunately, this match isn’t about making sense – it’s about running competition against a show that had already almost sold out by the time they announced this match – so you really can’t expect much sense in the finish either. We can only base it on the reasons outside the ring, and we know very little of that.

Tiger Blanco is the obvious loser. Since his head injury (in 2004? – if only I remembered to write things on the wiki), he’s had long stretches of being out of the ring, and has openly talked about not being able to continue. Most of the wrestlers from his ‘generation’ have either made it to a significant level by now or are being phased out, and he’s definitely in the later group. In a year or two, Tigre Blanco might not be a big enough name to be in these sort of cage matches (he’s arguable the lowest ranked guy in the match) – this isn’t the best way to end a stage of your career, but it might be the best spot Tigre Blanco gets.

[poll id=”47″]However, CMLL has been pretty consistent in NOT having the most likely guy losing these cage matches. The last 4 cage match losers in Arena Mexico were Shockercito, Toscano, Heavy Metal, and Hijo del Lizmark, and none of those guys stuck out as the most likely going in. If they continue on with that booking, who else is possible?

The Tuareg: For what their roles are (experienced rudos helping younger tecnicos thru early matches), they really don’t have to be masked. If you take the long view, and there’s no reason you actually should here, it’d be better for them to be unmasked, so they could lose their hair every so often to a guy on the way up. Better than just having Loco Max do it.

Individually, it doesn’t work out as well. Hard to believe Dr. X was going to lose his mask in a match he didn’t even know was going to happen. Arkangel does enough stuff with Ultimo Dragon where being a masked rudo luchador probably means more than average for him. Skandalo is too young and probably on his way to more important things. Of the four in the match, Hooligan seems most likely to lose – he’s not around as much as the others – but there’s the unfortunate business of this not being his first mask.

Flash, Angel de Oro, Pesgaso, and Rey Cometa all make much more sense as masked. With Astro Boy, you could make the same case of being passed by as with Tigre Blanco – enough to make him the second most likely tecnico, but doesn’t seem like a strong bet with who he’s related to. Likewise, Tiger Kid losing his mask wouldn’t make any sense, unless we immediately found out he was actually Negro Casas Jr. or something like that.

Which leaves, unless I’ve skipped someone here, Polvora. He would actually make some sense. Polvora’s lost his old tag partner and could use an image overhaul. Unlike Tigre Blanco, Polvora losing could be the start of something new. I’m picking him, but I wouldn’t actually wager on it.

Picking a winner is even more random. If they were consistent from show day to show day, Angel de Oro would be the strong pick, but they’ve been doing the opposite; Volador’s feud with Ultimo Guerrero on Sundays is completely forgotten for Volador’s feud with Averno on Friday’s. This is pick a name out of the hat reasoning, so I’ll pick…Astro Boy. Hey, he’s got a movie out, it’s a good time.
