Mexico, GDL, Lineups

CMLL (SUN) 10/11 Arena Mexico [Cesar]
1) Inquisidor & Semental b Molotov & Principe
2) Leono, Metálico, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Pólvora, Ramstein
3) Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico DQ Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
4) La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Sagrado b Felino, Heavy Metal, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, Shocker, Strong Man DQ Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

I *think* UG fouled Strong Man for the DQ (welcome to CMLL!), but I may be reading it wrong and the rudos may have gotten away with it. Why don’t you tell me what the finish is, that’ll be easier. No obvious bonus match set up next week – maybe Shocker/Strong Man vs Atlantis/UG in a tag?

DQ in the minis was for Damian fouling Dorada. We’re back to La Mascara putting Sangre Azteca in a campana every time they meet. This would be a good build to a title program if a) Sangre’s team was still intact, b) Mascara’s team didn’t already have trios titles, and c) either of them still had a singles title.

CMLL (SUN) 10/11 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Nocturno b Halcon
2) Idolo & Metatrón b Thunder Boy & Virgo
3) Egipcio & Magnum b Leon Blanco & Samurai [Relevos Increíbles]
4) Horus & Metal Blanco b Ángel del Mal & Asesino Negro
5) Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata b Euforia & Nosferatu
6) Ray Mendoza Jr., Terrible, Texano Jr. b Máximo, Toscano, Volador Jr.

Rudos won clean.

Reforma talks to Cibernetico about his appearance on the El Pantera TV show.

Segunda Caida writes about IWRG 07/23/09 and puts Blue Panther #2 as best of 2008. If I were them, I’d set the #1 to post at 11:58 on New Years Eve just to screw with people, but then I also liked the Guizmo spot tomk suggested as a bad idea, so they probably have a different ideas.

Estrella del Ring has a video interview with DF Commission member, Dr. Ortiz

Cronicas de Leyendas de Lucha Libre has the Toreo debuts of Magnifico, Los Infernales and Konnan

SuperLuchas #335 has an interview with Skandalo.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

IWRG (THU) 10/15 Arena Naucalpan
1) Guizmo vs Comando Negro
2) Eragon & Jack vs Epidemia & Heavy Boy
3) Hombre Bala Jr. vs Gringo Loco
4) Bushi, Exodia, Pendulo vs Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Rojo, La Rata
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Pirates vs Police! A mythic rivalry. I have nothing interesting to say here (or ever) but I think, if the Perros are going to run a full promotion, they should pull a CMLL and steal the titles from here (with no intention to return) instead of creating new ones. Pirata winning the trios titles would be a fine start.

And speaking of other promotions interacting with IWRG – what happened to Super X? I presume the regular shows promised just never happened and everyone agreed never to mention it again.

A new rat? Is IWRG borrowing CMLL’s idea of midcard singles matches? Has that even really worked for CMLL? If we have to pause to think of even one lightning match that’s actually meant anything, that’s a no.

AULL (SAT) 10/17 Arena Lopez Mateos
1) Danger, Platino, Solar Jr. vs La Kripta, Trauma I, Trauma II
2) Negro Navarro & Solar I vs Black Terry & Shu el Guerrero
3) ?, Hijo de Rey Misterio, Huracan Ramirez vs el Mosco, Pierko el Boricua, Veneno
4) Canek Jr. vs Fishman Jr., Pierroth II, Gran Markus Jr., El Hijo De Huracan Ramirez, Jaque Mate Jr., Septiembre Negro II, Hijo de Máscara Año 2000 [mask]

Said to be taped for TV. Presumably TVC Deportes.

CMLL (SUN) 10/18 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) El Divino & Virgo vs In Memoria & Relampago Azul
2) Rafaga & Samurai vs Egipcio & Leon Blanco
3) Metal Blanco & Neutrón vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Blue Panther & La Máscara vs Misterioso II & Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Máscara Dorada, Shocker vs Atlantis, Dragon Rojo Jr., Felino

IWRG (SUN) 10/18 Arena Naucalpan
1) Miss Gaviota & Star Boy vs Carta Brava & Hijo del Signo
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Maldito Jr. & Samoth
3) Bushi, Chico Che, Exodia vs Avisman, Fantasma de la Ópera, Sangre Chicana
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro

  1. OK, finally getting to typing up the Perros notes.

A few general notes first. I showed up around 4:00 for the announced 5:00 start time. Went up to the box office and bought one of the last few front row seats for the 300 peso face value. I was pleasantly surprised, but found this a little disconcerting. Doors opened a little before 5:00 and the show started at 6:00. The Civic Center is ummm, not the nicest place I’ve been to see Lucha. Basically a big open area with bleachers set up, a ramp, and seats for ringside. Not a bad setup, but it will be interesting to see how it looks on TV. I’m front row, right behind the announce crew. The nice thing is that since there are no monitors in the setup, I can watch the announcer monitors and got to see the backstage segments they filmed. The announce crew is Dr. Morales and the Televisa crew. Don’t know the names of the other two or the woman who was doing backstage interviews. I’m not going to guess the overall turnout since I don’t know what the capacity of the building is. I’d say the bleachers were over 75% full. Ringside was probably 50-60% full. Basically the more expensive the tickets, the less likely there were to be people in them. I think they will probably either have to drop prices or move them into the actual city. But, maybe the TV will help build crowds. Anoyone who has read my comments over the past year, won’t be surprised to find out that I enjoyed the show.

    1. Black Spirit & Skayde Jr. beat Beta & Black Thunder. Fun match. Hopefully these guys stick around since they will make for some good TV. Black Spirit is great.
-Backstage interview with PARK followed by backstage interview with Thunder and Skayde, Jr.
    2. El Angel & Konami beat Pesadilla & ??. I swear they announced Black Thunder in the advertised Rage spot, but I’m horrible at understanding ring announcers. I’m sure there will be clarification tomorrow, but I also took quite a few pictures (link at the end of this comment) if anyone wants to try to figure it out. Another fun match.
-Backstage intervie with Konami and Angel.
    3. Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, & Pirata Morgan Jr. beat Hombre Bala, Skayde, & Turbo. Yay for Turbo not being Disturbio!!! Got distracted by the cotton candy guy and popcorn guy during the first two falls of this match, but it all seemed good.
-Beer run. Familiar size Indios are only 35 pesos!
    4. Casandro & X-Fly beat Leo & Riviero. Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve seen Casandro live. How great is he? He made this match enjoyable. Leo and Riveiro work stripper gimmicks. I enjoyed X-Fly playing straight man (pun intended) to Casandro more than anything else I’ve ever seen him do. Match was mostly a comedy match obviously, but Casandro also pulled off the obligatory for the Perros show dive off the lighting structure. Was surprised to see it come from him in this match. He and X-Fly win a two fall match.
    5. Celestial & Cosmico Draw Mini Talisman & Mr. Aguilita. The match that made me wonder what Halloweencito was doing tonight. Match was fine, but not anywhere near as good as the Lucha Expo match. In the third fall, Cosmico beat Talisman and Aguilita beat Celestial. Cosmico then hit a spanish fly and the ref counted both mens shoulders down for the three. Crowd wasn’t happy with this, but I thought it was a fine ending to the match, and I don’t mind an occasional draw, particularly in a midcard match.
-Perro Sr. comes out and is presented with an award by Dr. Morales.
-Tirantes refs the final three matches of the night. He sticks to his rudo shtick.
    6. Hijo del Lizmark, Oriental, & Groon XXX beat Head Hunter I, Pirata Morgan, & Super Nova (I think). Oriental comes out first followed by Lizmark. “Ohhhhhh, What A Rush!!!” and I momentarily hope against hope that Road Warrior Animal is here. It would be a bigger waste of money by the promotion, but at least it would probably only be a onetime waste. Then I realize that Lizmark isn’t the worst person on his team. After watching CMLL yesterday, I almost said I would never pay to see a show with Strongman on it. If Groon had been advertised I don’t know if I could have convinced myself to go to this show. Five of the workers in this match at least looked like they were trying. I refuse to write anything else about this match.
    7. Mr. Aguila, Scorpio Jr, & Veneno beat Histerio, Mosco de la Merced, & Psicosis in a TLC match. I hate TLC matches that don’t have anything for you to climb a ladder and retrieve. Don’t steal a gimmick if you aren’t going to do it right. Have a hardcore match that happens to involve tables, ladders and chairs instead. Also, buy decent ladders instead of just having one set in the middle of the ring that the luchadors wisely decide against climbing. And get tables that will break when people are put through them instead of tables made out of thick wood and metal beams. And some metal folding chairs instead of plastic folding chairs that will hurt your talent more and not have the same dramatic effect. Given those complaints, the participants did an OK job in the match. Venino and Scorpio bled like crazy. Aguila got the crowd into it. But, this match wasn’t about this match, it was about the debut of Charly Manson who ran in and helped Aguila’s team win. Charly then told the former Vipers that they weren’t extreme, he was extreme and Mr. Aguila was extreme, and challenged them to a revancha (not sure how since he and Aguila vs. Histeria and Psicosis wouldn’t be a rematch in any way) in a cage with masks and hair on the line. This seemed to sort of but not really be agreed to. Veneno and Scorpio don’t seem to mind being left out of this and celebrate with Aguila and Charly in the ring. I hope they follow up on this, just so that they show some ability to progress some storyline.
-Side note on this, Aguila came out to his own music instead of the Perro’s theme tonight. Which is too bad, because they could use another Perros trio, an Aguila, Charly, and maybe Lizmark would kind of work.
    8. Damian 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo & Halloween beat Brazo de Plata, Ele Alebrije, & LA Park. Crowd was clearly behind the Perros, but Park had quite a few supporters in the crowd too. He cut a heal promo cutting down the promotion (and crowd?) before the match with Porky and Alebrije distancing themselves from his comments. Damian provided the rebuttal. For some reason this match (and only this match) has two referees. First fall is a brawl that leads to the Perros winning. Perro gets busted open early and bleeds a lot throughout the match. Second fall sees all of the usual spots these guys fit into their matches. Lots of ref shenanigans of course. Perro gets a quick count from Tirantes after pulling off Park’s mask. Pretty sure it only went two falls, but they may have snuck in a quick second fall with an uneventful ending.
-Post match fun. La Park is not happy with the loss and continues to beat on Perro demanding that he call his father out to the ring. Perro Sr makes his way to the ring and Park begins badmouthing him while Perro remains down. Park starts to push the Perro Sr around, even throwing a few punches before Perro Sr breaks out a discuss clothesline and drops Park. He, Damian, and Halloween then help Perro to the back. Park eventually gets up and gets some more mic time while the ring is littered with trash around him. Staff eventually come out and make him go to the back where he attacks Perro while he is being attended to.

Interesting end to the show, and they seem willing to let both Perro and Park play to their rudo instincts, but it seems like they are going to put Perro in the position of being sympathetic and have the crowd behind him completely. Time will tell if they can actually bring a bigtime feud to a meaningful resolution. If they can build to a big singles match (is Perro finally willing to drop his hair to get his promotion going stronger?) it would seem like a good way to run on a legitimately big show. It seems like they could build this up well enough to run something in December or January which they could call their anniversary show (please don’t call it PerroMania).

OK, that’s enough rambling. My pics of the show can be seen here (http://picasaweb.google.com/alanjulson/PerrosTV?authkey=Gv1sRgCMieu6rZ2Nr5hwE&feat=directlink), but I haven’t edited out those that aren’t clear or labeled anything at this point.

  2. Cubs, you should really put a limit on comment length to prevent me from putting that much into one spot ever again.

  3. The Good: The undercard of the PdM show will make most smarks (such as myself) very happy to see certain guys getting TV.

The Bad: Most of those guys were involved in the GWAS and ENESMA fiascos. In fact you could draw a lot of comparisons to those promotions and what Perrito is trying to do now.

Fantastic write-up. Actually makes me somewhat excited to see the show which I honestly thought would just be a complete mess. Seems like too many matches for one show though but I guess they had a certain # of weeks to tape since it’d be dumb to run back to back tapings. It would also help the credibility of the promotion if the lineup announced ended up being correct. Just saying…

“(is Perro finally willing to drop his hair to get his promotion going stronger?)”

This is the big question. Not even will he drop his hair but will Perro be willing to lose on a regular basis to make this work? If the promotion was just created for him to get back on TV while keeping the tradition going of screwjob main events – this is doomed to fail.

  4. @Rob: Unfortunately, I think we should have a good idea about how this is going to work based on Perro Sr. getting a plaque for no particular reason, plus Perro Sr. getting the better of Park after the main event. But I hope I’m wrong!

  5. BTW Cubs, that AULL show is for AYM Sports. If you end up getting the channel that may be the first wrestling show you end up seeing! Hopefully it won’t be too painful.

  6. @thecubsfan: Since it is already clear that I’m a PdM apologist, I’ll offer my one (probably false) hope in regards to the Park/Perro situation. I got the feeling that Perro Sr. got a plaque so that there was an excuse for him to be at the show for the main event angle. I would have preferred that they just had Park beat Perro Sr. down at the end of the show, but they accomplished their goal of making Park hated by virtually everyone in attendance. More importantly, the Perro that matters was left in a pool of his own blood not only in the ring, but also backstage. For the first time that I have seen (basically the last two years), Perro let himself be outrudoed (or something like that). He came off looking weaker than I have ever seen at a Perros show. Sure he won (still by cheating), but he had to be helped backstage and was attacked again there. Hopefully they run the Perro Sr. beatdown on a future show to further build Park as a rudo. But, I left feeling that it was more likely than ever that Perro would give up his hair to someone for his promotion, and Park is the only person that makes sense in the promotion at this point.
