AAA #903 (09/12/09)

taped 08/17/2009

Always interesting to see what changes between when AAA tapes TV and when they air it. This was the taping with no announcers, though you’d be hard pressed to notice it. There were no shots of announces, and occasionally you could hear the replacement ring announcing, but they removed all traces of the angle done to cover their absence.

You know what would be dumb? A promotion giving away results from a show we haven’t seen yet, for no particular reason.

Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II vs Argenis, Atomic Boy, Relampago – too much time and not the right guys to fill it. They’ve definitely had better matches than this.

Alex Koslov & Teddy Hart vs Jack Evans & Rocky Romero – At this point, only Alex has a match on the next big show, if you’re just following along to the TV show. So he’s the only one who doesn’t get promo time, and Teddy’s promo doesn’t explain why Nikki’s back or where she’s been. But he does use the time to push his important feud with Harry Smith and Tyson Kidd, so that’s great.

I’d rather watch Alex Koslov in a match than Teddy Hart any day of the week. Teddy is a very athletic individual who can do lots of spots, but Alex can actually be entertaining. A rudo who gets beat up by the tecnicos and only gains an advantage by cheating, what a idea.

Either someone needed to explain to Piero that these guys wanted to use tap outs as submissions, or someone needed to explain to these guys how to give up in lucha libre. Having it go wrong twice in two tapings is lazy.

Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs El Elegido & Gronda – Expected mess. The damage is usually self inflicted via stupid risk, but I actually feel sympathy when Joe Lider gets bat up here, because it’s often his opponents being dumb.

Billy Boy & Sexy Star vs Aerostar & Fabi Apache in a street fight match – Billy pinning Aerostar was a pretty clear sign, in retrospect. Oh well. Billy and Aero were having a pretty good match at points, which we saw little off. They’ve certainly built the rudos strong here. The street fight seemed not so completely thought out – they wanted to do a spot on the second floor, but had no idea what else to do, so they just walked over, did the spot, and walked back.

Charly Manson & Marco Corleone vs Chessman & Cibernético – no, this was old school Vipers, especially everything involving Marco. Marco/Chessman is a feud that would be vastly entertaining.

El Mesías vs Dr. Wagner Jr. in a bull terrier match – Good thing this aired after Verano; this match would’ve sold negative tickets. Every time they do these rematches, it seems more likely their TripleMania match was one brilliant but completely isolated moment in time. (Though this was still much better than their one on one in the cage match.)

With Cibernético nearly being awarded a win in a chain match he wasn’t actually even in, I now am convinced that Chessman would’ve won the title last year at Guerra de Titanes if Charly had just stayed out of his way and let him climb that ladder. Chessman was so right to turn on him.

Negro Casas’ wife, Perros, Box Y Lucha

Cesar points out it wasn’t Estrellita Magica who wrestled in the segunda on Tuesday. It was actually “Dalis La Caribena”, Negro Casas’ wife (who’s also Veneno’s sister) Both she and Negro had mentioned she was training to become a wrestler, but it’s still surprising – more so, since CMLL hasn’t actually noted it yet. She has a background in kickboxing and various martial arts before starting wrestling.

Speaking of wifes (or ex-wifes of whatever) – with Groon XXX being out of AAA, does that mean Esther Moreno is gone as well?

AAA says they’ll addres the Ciberentico/Konnan YouTube and Dorian kidnapping on TV this week. Eh.

Box Y Lucha posted many articles, from as old as six weeks ago. There are some completely outdated (Pirata suggesting going to CMLL or AAA when they’ve ended up with Perros), but there’s some still newsworthy stuff:

Los Perros

Perro Jr. says his new TV show will innovate, not immate like other Mexican promotions. They’re not going to mimic US wrestling, but they’re hoping to draw in the Mexican fans who are watching those shows. Speaking of TV, a post on el Martiente says Perro told Reforma’s podcast they’ll be airing Saturdays at 9 pm on Canal 4, which is a different channel and time than we’d heard previously.

– Yet another Charly Manson interview. He was good friends with Marisela and Joaquin, but may sue them if they sue him. Electroshock and he have talked about why Charly left, but Chessman hasn’t and he’s disappointed with Chessman putting him down in the press, even though he figures he’s only doing what he’s told.

Histeria says everyone said AAA would be in trouble after Antonio Pena died, and he feels that’s finally happening. Histeria is to again foreign wrestlers, but they’ve got to focus on Mexican wrestling. He’s heard AAA wrestlers are told to watch US wrestling and imitate that style, and that’s the sort of thing that led to him leaving AAA..

Misc

India Sioux, Maximo, and child, who was born on August 18th. India does hope to return to the ring, but had a c-section and will need at least a year to recover, and thinks she may might as well restart her career with a new name after being out so long. She’s already figuring on her new son getting into the business, because everyone else in the family is. Maximo says he told India there was no way he was going into the delivery room, but he gathered up the courage at the last moment – and nearly fainted.

Scorpio Jr. about his career. He’s got two kids in wrestling – olympic wrestling – but is hoping they don’t go into lucha libre. But then, his dad wanted the same thing.

Mima Shimoda wants you to know she’s only teammates with Okumura and No Limit, and is looking for a Mexican boyfriend. She’s wrestled less this year because they want to give the newer woman chances.

– Female indy wrestler Oasis is hoping to make it to CMLL, since she debuted on an indy show against Crazy Star and Star Fire. Her trainer is Mini Chessman.
