Sicodelico, trios titles, non-agression pacts

In celebration of Mexican independence day, this blog will be independent of any useful content. Much like normal.

Sicodelico Jr. was let go from FCW. Cesar writes a lot about this, saying making it/not making it to WWE is no stamp of quality. My thought here is Sicodelico had little to lose – he was working Texas independents and occasional NWA shows, not exactly a full time bit – by taking a developmental deal and he probably learned a lot from it. (Including some he probably didn’t want to learn.) Dos would be a different story.

[poll id=”44″]Tonight’s main event in Arena Coliseo is Angeles Rebeldes vs Trio de Terror. This is known title defense five (all the papers seem to be agreeing on that number, so we may be accurate there for once.) This is also Avenro & company’s third shot at the belts, the previous two in Arena Mexico. Losing 3 straight in DF seems unlikely, but Garza’s lost three straight CMLL Heavyweight Title matches in Puebla, so they’re not afraid of doing it. I think the titles do not change hands.

CMLL is also running full shows in Guadalajara (the usual Tuesday show) and San Luis Potosi (Wednesday is the traditional big wrestling day there.) Due to the holiday, I’m sure there are many small shows going on in DF we’re not reading about, but there’s not much left of the roster to work them.

Looking ahead, Hector Garza explains the Mexican rudos and tecnicos have signed a non-aggression pact. They’re all united as Mexicans to prove Mexican wrestling is better than Japanese wrestling. Garza notes they’re the home team and so they shouldn’t lose.

Astaroth talks about the mask match with Fraile de la Muerte next week. He’s the novato, Fraile is the older rudo, and things haven’t gone well for the older rudos here lately. Just like Fraile (and everyone else), Astaroth is surprised they’re doing the mask match so soon.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches some classic Infernales from 1987.

Sinora, Guadalajara, Ras de Lona

Sloooow. No shows tonight, everything moved to tomorrow, so I’ll just have to start making up stuff for Wednesday.

Can anyone get Ovaciones’ digital edition to work? It hasn’t worked for me since last Thursday.

AAA (SUN) 09/13 Palenque de Navojoa, Sonora [NoroEste]
1) Gato Eveready & Rocky Romero b Alex Koslov & Escoria
2) Jack Evans & La Parka Jr. DQ Silver King & Teddy Hart
3) Truck Monster L Monster Truck, Kempo Dragon, Relampago, Doberman, Epidemia, Psiclope, Muralla Negra [mask, cage]

Truck Monster, who’d only appeared on the last show here (which set up this match), lost his mask to Monster Truck. He gave his name as Roberto Maldonado, 31 years, 10 years a wrestler, from Tijuana, but did not let anyone see his face. Almost certainly some shenaggins here.

Fraile de la Muerte talks about his upcoming mask match against Astaroth to Fuego en el Ring. Fraile seems to be setting up excuses here.

Felino explains his rudo turn, in part, as Paco Alonso wanting him to test the younger guys to see who is worthy of moving up.

Tinieblas complains to Box Y Lucha bout someone stealing his gimmick in Guadalajara. We already have tall the Tinieblas we need.

Cesar starts breaking down the Anniversary card with the first two matches. I ought ot do that at some point.

Pierrothito talks about his year to ESTO.

Alex Koslov needs YOUR help to join him for a protest at the Angel de la Independencia. I may turn around on this angle if it includes promos on YouTube. Maybe Wagner can give him tips for a successful march?

Kcidis illustrates the big feuds this week.

Box Y Lucha #2939 is Jushin Lyger in Mexico

Ras de Lona #63 has Sujei, Hiroka, and Blanca as Las Zorras. Well, the name is already over. From the highlights, I can totally believe Mendoza really did KO himself. All that footage 52MX has of the Luchas2000 show is really coming in very handy, almost like it was planned that way.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, with a lot more detailed bio of Roberto Paz than I had yesterday. Fuego en el Ring also has a short obit.

Updated Lineup:

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo
1) Diamante & Sensei vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela vs Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Flash, Mictlán, Rogue vs Euforia, Tiger Kid, Virus
4) Toscano, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
5) Místico vs Jushin Liger

If they don’t add back a match, that means Dorada, Panther and No Limit are dropped (plus Lady Apache in Estrella Magica’s spot.) I think they’ll still do OK. I lost track of how many times Lyger talked about getting “my title” back on Ras de Lona, but it really seems like this singles match is just match 1 in at least a 2 match series.

IWRG (TUE) 09/22 Arena Naucalpan
1) Espada de Plata & Master vs Maldito Jr. & Samot
2) Imperio Azteca vs Keshin Black, Fly Star, Imperial, DVD, Serpiente Dorada, Gringo Loco, Halcon 2000, Hijo del Signo, Alan Extreme, Comando del Diablo, Finix [cibernetico]

Another IWRG trainees only show. Funny to see Gringo Loco working this one too.

Liger in Coliseo, IWRG, GDL, CMLL to France, AAA FSE & Alas de Oro

Naito/CMLL
Naito/CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 09/13 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Astro Boy & Molotov b Disturbio & Semental
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo b Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela b Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca
4) Máximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Jushin Liger, Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro b La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr.

Mistico and Liger were ripping at each other’s masks here. Volador accidentally took out Sombra with a dive at the end, and Liger got away with a foul on Mistico. 2 and 0, both the same method.

Recap mentions Astro Boy is back from “a car accident that jeopardized his career”. ?????? We really don’t know 5% of what’s going on with these guys. There was a moment of applause during the show for Roberto Paz.

IWRG (SUN) 09/13 Arena Naucalpan [DJ Spectro]
1) Talisman Jr. b Menfis
2) Miss Gaviota & Star Boy b Insolito & Menfis
3) Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Jack b Brandon, Capitán Muerte, Gringo Loco
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Bushi, Chico Che, Exodia [IWRG IC TRIOS]
5) Megatron, Stuka I, Trauma I DQ Fuerza Guerrera, Juventud Guerrera, Veneno

Megatron (?) replaced Ricky Cruz, who missed both IWRG shows this week. Fuerza fouled Metagtron, Stuka fouled Fuerza, only Fuerza got caught. Oficials retain the titles again.

CMLL (SUN) 09/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT, Fuego en el Ring]
0) Cometa DRAW Flyer
1) Idolo & Thunder Boy b Güero Loco & Relampago
2) Ebola & Fraile de la Muerte b Astaroth & Virgo
3) Metal Blanco & Palacio Negro b Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Flash, Máscara Dorada, Sagrado b Euforia, Misterioso II, Nosferatu
5) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Héctor Garza, La Máscara, Toscano

Rudos won the main clean. Astaroth and Fraile de la Muerte feuded during the match, and will have a mask match next week. Reads like there may be changes in Guadalajara – Tuesday shows canceled? (Perhaps someone is reading too much into one show being moved because of the holiday week.)

Looks like CMLL is headed to France in November. Or someone’s made a confusing website. 3 shows in 13 days is going to leave a lot time for sight seeing/drinking.

Signo lost his hair to El Dandy on a fair show in Cuernavaca this weekend. Doesn’t look like Signo lost much hair, actually.

In case you missed it, the first Lucha Libre Premier/Fox Sports show aired over the weekend, complete with a mistake in their point standings. The bigger quality control issue is AAA hasn’t appeared to mention this show since it was taped, and you probably need to promote the thing. Maybe they did on TV and I haven’t seen it, though that seems unlikely. No sign of it showing up on the US version of Fox Sports Espanol any time soon, judging by the listings. If this is really ongoing, they’ll need to be taping again probably by the 10/02-10/04 weekend.

AAA does mention they’re running the Alas de Oro tournament – previously a big mutliman elimination match on one taping – as a league format on the Solo de Futbol show, on Thursdays. I’d guess they probably taped them all at once and are spreading them out over the weeks – Alex Koslov is in it, to tell you when this was taped. Again, only airing in Mexico. This is the same show they ran the future star tournament earlier this year, so that must’ve done well for the show. Tough enough to keep track of a league format, much less a show you don’t get and where results don’t turn up and where you get as many points for the move of the match as winning the match, so I probably won’t bother, but they’ve listed the results so far:

                Matches Wins Move Total
Extreme Tiger 1 1 1 4
Jack Evans 1 1 1 4
Billy Boy 1 1 0 2
Sugi 1 0 1 2
Alex Koslov 1 0 0 0
Super Fly 1 0 0 0

No matches: Aero, Laredo, Teddy, Tito. Laredo and Teddy is the announced match for this Thursday, and Aerostar & Santana make since for the following. This is supposed to go for 12 weeks, which doesn’t divide smoothly into 10 wrestlers. Perhaps everyone gets 2 matches, week 11 is a losers battle royal, and week 12 is the two highest points totals (or everyone tied there, because it’s impossible there won’t be a big tie.) I don’t know, I just know I won’t be keep tracking of it. The one big question: what was Romero doing the day they taped this?

From reading the boards, I must’ve missed a post on SuperLuchas where it was suggested Ken Kennedy (well, Ken Anderson anyway) might be the mystery person for the Pena Memorial gauntlet match. That would be such a perfectly typical selection by AAA that it sort of has to happen (even though I have no desire to see it.)

Missed this last night: Cesar’s proposed lineup for the anniversary show, based on recent performance.

Wrestlers in Morelia complain there’s a lack of infrastructure to run events or train.

Haven’t linked to an article about the Bolivian Cholitas in a while. First one I’ve seen who’s mentioned a death in the ring, though very scarce details. The author seems surprised to find lucha libre is only a part time job.

Lineups, since I forgot about these last night:

IWRG (WED) 09/16 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragon & Star Boy vs Hijo del Signo & Talisman Jr.
2) Exodia & Pendulo vs Arlequin Amarillo & Gringo Loco
3) Arlequin Rojo vs Chico Che, Capitán Muerte, Oficial Fierro, Bushi, Jack [cage, loser advances]
4) Pirata Morgan vs Tóxico DF, Goleador, Bobby Lee Jr., Trauma I, Oficial 911 [cage, loser advances]
5) ? vs ?? [cage, hair, mask]

Usual cage match show. I keep thinking this might be the time Bushi loses, and I’m wrong every single time, so I don’t have much to say here. Though, Arlequin Rojo sure sticks out like a sore thumb. Goleador is supposed to be wrestling in the opener of the Lucha Libre Fan Fest next week, so maybe he’s safe.

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo
1) Diamante & Sensei vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Estrella Magica, Lluvia, Marcela vs Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Flash, Mictlán, Rogue vs Euforia, Tiger Kid, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Valiente vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
5) Místico, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Jushin Liger, Naito, Yujiro

I was going to make a joke last night about how Mima should declare herself a princess to complete the team theme, but it sounds like Hiroka might have beat her to it on Ras de Lona.

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Idolo & Nube Roja vs In Memoria & Relampago Azul
2) Angelo & Gallo vs Malefico & Rafaga
3) Astaroth vs Fraile de la Muerte [mask]
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Metro vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Nosferatu, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Shocker vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

IWRG (SUN) 09/20 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dark Saint vs Rey Tempestad
2) Eragon & Star Boy vs Hijo del Signo & Menfis
3) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco
4) Bushi, Chico Che, Freelance vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Pirata Morgan, Sangre Chicana Jr., Veneno

AAA notes, Crazy Boy, Hija de Sangre Chicana

AAA is altering the name of the next major show to “Heroes Inmortals III: Homenaje a Don Antonio Pena”. WORDY. Moving Pena’s name to the subtitle makes it seem as though they might stop using it at some point, but it’s hard to imagine such things actually occurring with how visible his name is on an weekly basis. Perhaps instead, this will become like Dos Leyendas, where it’s always the founder (Salvador Lutteroth there) and a wrestler. Though I’d assume the HOF inducement is done at TripleMania because that’s what WWE does, it also might work better to do it on this show, since this is the looking back one.

AAA TV update: There’s no AAA taping on 09/18 in Puebla. There is an AAA show on that date, but it’s a normal house show, and AAA says the mention of it on TV was to just to promote it. There will be no more tapings until the Heroes Inmortales show because they’re so far behind on what’s aired. That show looks to air about a week after it takes place, which gets them back to normal.

Al Filo del Ring catches up with Crazy Boy, who’s seems like a rare AAA rank and file wrestler going on record to support the changes in the promotion over the last few years and excited about the foreigners being brought in. There’s a little talk about DTU too.

Guadalajara wrestler Robert Paz has passed away.

Estrella del Ring looks at six names used in CMLL, which had already been long in use Cuernavaca. The implication here is the names have been stolen, but I tend to believe in ignorance (though sometimes willful) over malice when this sort of thing happens. There are only so many one word names. It’s probably happened forever and will continue to happen, but now it’s just more noticeable since everyone’s linked together tighter. The only solution is some national name registry (probably linked with some national licensing situation), and that’s never ever going to happen.

Cesar rates the main eventers, midcarders and opening match wrestlers in the least few weeks, figuring out who deserves to be on the anniversary show.

Hablando de Catch has an interview with Ricky Cruz, about this pre-Mexico career.

SuperLuchas #331 has Mistico & Negro on the cover, and an interview with Oriental. Oriental is not as high about people new to the company getting guaranteed deals while he couldn’t get any work. There’s also an interview with Lluvia, where she reveals herself to be Sangre Chicana’s daughter.

The new edition of Dos de Tres includes Cibernetico talking about his return, and Jack Evans teaching you how to breakdance.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Liger defeats UG, Casas wins going into hair match, lineup

CMLL (FRI) 09/11 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Record, Cesar]
1) Camorra & Escorpion b Diamante & Starman
2) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeno Nitro, Pierrothito vs Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico, Último Dragoncito
3) Máximo, Mictlán, Rouge b Euforia, Nosferatu, Vangelis
4) Terrible b La Máscara [lightning]
5) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Toscano
6) Jushin Liger, Naito, Yujiro b Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero

Though CMLL tried to show a hype video for Liger before he entered, Black Warrior rushed Yujiro to start the fight. Atlantis attacked Naito, so of course Ultimo ended up with Liger. Japan took fall one (Liger brainbuster Guerrero, No Limit beating Warrior), Mexico rallied back to win the second (Warrior on Yujiro, Altantis on Naito), and Liger fouled UG and pinned him for the win. Liger seemed in full rudo mode – he was running away from UG at the end of the second fall.

Negro picked up a clean win on last year’s Anniversary loser in the deciding fall in the deciding fall. Tecnicos didn’t win a fall on their own, only picking up the second after Pesta Negra starting using their trash can.

Three injuries in the early matches: Terrible beat La Mascara with the Styles Clash and Mascara needed help. Rouge had a random arm injury (which could be a chronic issue for him) in his team’s win. Camorra’s top con giro at the close of the opener ended up hitting one of the tecnicos directly in the face – SuperLuchas says Starman, Cesar says Diamanate.

IWRG (THU) 09/10 Arena Naucalpan [EdR]
1) Imperial b Comando del Diablo
2) Bushi, Exodia, Turbo b Carta Brava Jr., Gringo Loco, Heavy Boy
3) Freelance b Avisman
4) Bobby Lee Jr. & Suicida b Blasfemia & Nosawa
5) Masada & Pirata Morgan b Angelico & Scorpio Jr.

No Ricky Cruz or Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., which causes some changes on the top of the card. Freelance won in straight falls and asked for a title match.

Fuego en el Ring interviews Maximo about Brazo de Plata’s return to CMLL and the chances of a trio with La Mascara or other Brazos.

Tribuna Campeche talks to Lizmark about his career. He’s wrestling a retirement show on the 19th there. The mysterious new Lizmark Jr. is pictured but not mentioned in the article.

The Gladiatores has an interview with La Nazi

CMLL (WED) 09/16 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Cholo & Zayco
2) Fantasy, Shockercito, Último Dragoncito vs Pequeno Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000, Pierrothito
3) Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Angel de Plata vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Pólvora
4) Maximo, Metro, Rouge vs Atlantis, Hijo de Lizmark, Misterioso II
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto [CMLL TRIOS]

In addition to GDL, this is also the day where they’ve got a full lineup going out to SLP, so this is sort of a third tier lineup. Not sure what they’ll do if Rouge is unavailable here; they’re probably waiting to after the anniversary to bring back Super Porky as a special deal, but maybe he ends up wrestling here instead.

Friday’s lineup, you know.

Friday notes

I’m busy and afraid to look in the comment section. (More than usual!) Quiet day anyway.

Previews of tonight: ESTO, Ovaciones (hooray for posting today’s article, since the PDF isn’t up), LuchandoLibre. The big story here is Liger’s debut match, as good as bet as they have for drawing a good house the week before the anniversary show. Looks like he’ll be headlining every show he’s on as a rudo and teaming with No Limit most of the time. There sure seems to be a Liger/UG match coming before he goes back to Japan (which makes one wonder if UG is headed back to Japan at some point in the near future.) No Mistico on the card, but with Negro in the semimain, it wouldn’t shock anyone to see a surprise appearance. Terrible/Mascara as the lightning match is interesting in light of Terrible’s pals getting a shot at Mascara’s trios titles next week.[poll id=”43″]

CMLL announced the anniversary show will start a half hour earlier, to show a video of past anniversaries. So, an episode of Ras de Lona then? Or maybe they’ll help us fill some gaps on the list of Anniversary main events?

El Pancracio writes about new CMLL wrestler Disturbio and Puebla wrestler with Tigre Rojo.

Luchas 2000 486 has many pages on Alex Koslov – having wholy and completely different articles on the show, Alex on losing the cage, Roldan talking about the Cruiserweight Title, and the CMLL booking committee saying he’s not coming in is completely normal and still odd. It’s all the same story.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s upcoming lineuips.

FWIW: I had planned to do a move on the luchawiki server this weekend which would take it down a few hours. Not sure if that’s going to happen, but I’ll try to give warning (both here and the wiki) if it does.
