Shocker resurfaces in GDL, Liger beats Mistico again

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
5) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Shocker b Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Hey, look who showed up! Maybe Shocker just had important business in GDL all week. Garza pinned Terrible for the win. Fuego oddly doesn’t report any of the undercard, which included a mask match. Pictures show Astaroth with Fraile de la Muerte’s photos mask, which is pretty good indicator.

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones]
1) Diamante & Sensei b Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela b Mima Shimoda, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Flash, Mictlán, Rogue b Euforia, Tiger Kid, Virus
4) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Toscano, Valiente, Volador Jr.
5) Jushin Liger b Místico

Liger took falls 1 and 3, winning clean. No mention of a title match here next week.

IWRG (SUN) 09/20 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr. via DJ Spectro]
1) Rey Tempestad b Dark Saint
2) Eragon & Star Boy b Hijo del Signo & Menfis
3) El Hijo del Diablo & Gringo Loco b Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
4) Bushi, Chico Che, Freelance b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Pirata Morgan, Sangre Chicana Jr., Veneno

El Siglo de Torreon talks to Sombra & Dragon Rojo, who were back in town working a CMLL show (one Ultimo Guerrero missed and was replaced by Black Warrior.) The last paragraph mentions Sombra is headed to Japan in December. Dragon Rojo says local wrestlers Aspid & Insolito are planning on going to DF, and suggests Black Boy, Dorado Jr. and Eterno might be next.

LuchandoLibre has photos from Alex Koslov’s rally. People showed up! (Though maybe it was their job to show up.) Looks like a dozen or two. I like the posters which make fun of Roldan’s mustache the best.

Al Filo del Ring interviews Xibalba about his career and the WFS promotion he works in (and his father owns.)

Lizmark Jr. out of CMLL, long digressions about tangential topics

The newest SuperLuchas mentions Lizmark Jr. has jumped to the Perros del Mal. There’s a tease for a Box Y Lucha article that seems to indicate the same. He’s still on the lineup for Tuesday’s show, and I think a no-show is a perfect way for him to go out. More seriously, CMLL had clearly given up on using him in any meaningful role; it’s really hard to get CMLL to fire you unless they think you’re done in the ring, but they it looked like it was going to be a long time before they’d give Lizmark Jr. a storyline; maybe just one too many no shows. Lizmark fits with the Perros and needs a new start, but going to a group without actual TV doesn’t give you a start of anything.

According to AAA’s lineups, Billy Gunn is working a spot show on 10/05. Rob thinks this is Billy Boy weirdly typo-ed. I will cling to that belief for now. You know, if you look at that link with Billy Gunn, the page name is “jkjkjkjkk” – I hope that means this is just a cruel prank and they’re really just kidding.

AAA lineups also include such randomness as “Alan Stone, suddenly a rudo” (redoing Intocable/Alan with Elegido woudln’t be the worst idea – that idea is BILLY GUNN), a mystery (female) tecnica on some of the shows, and a mystery (male) tecnico.

Cesar has a very well thought out piece about why Mexican wrestlers have had trouble making it to WWE (and other us promotions) and what changes those who have made it have done. I agree with all of it, but I think there’s a couple logistical explanations he misses. Cesar notes WWE’s given more developmental chances to those from the Caribbean, and it’s important to remember those coming in from Puerto Rico don’t need a passport. It’s been emphasized in the story about Angelina Love (famous ex-AAA star Angel Williams) being dropped from TNA that it’s quite a process to get a correct visa for foreign talent, and the barrier it becomes to foreign talent – TNA’s now only using wrestlers with working visa (and wrestlers are on their own to get them), and WWE’s talked in the past about setting up developmental territories in Canada and England so they could weed out people before having to wait to get them in the US. At least for those two countries, WWE runs TV tapings, and invited local wrestlers get an opportunity to showcase themselves in the ring and have a chance to make some connections. I don’t think this is ever done on house shows, so Mexicans don’t get those chances. WWE doesn’t scout, WWE barely knows what’s going on in the world around it, so no one’s getting their attention without some sort of connection.

One last thing is WWE seems much more likely to extend contracts to those who are really young and pretty much unknown (or willing to be treated as if they’re unknown.) The guys who come up in rumors are usually 30+ and midcarders or above in a major promotions – but not one that means much to WWE. It seems to be that the next guy to come from Mexico is much more likely to be someone who’s a near unknown to everyone outside their local arena than a household one.

Box Y Lucha has semiformatted profiles of Imperial and Caricia.

Mistico told ESTO that, when Negro put La Mistica on him on Friday, he was very scared for the first time very that he might lose his mask. Reforma interviewed CMLL’s barber about cutting Negro Casas’ hair.

Lucha Va Voom got some press heading to New York, including in the Post.

SuperLuchas #331 has bald Negro Casas. Lock of the week is Sarita & Taylor Wilde winning TNA Women’s Tag Team Titles is in the cover next week.
Box Y Lucha #2940 has bald Negro Casas

1) Guizmo vs Extrano
2) Imperio Azteca & Miss Gaviota vs Black Thunder & Hijo del Signo
3) Eragon & Jack vs Blasfemia & Xibalba
4) Bushi, Exodia, Freelance vs Avisman, Gringo Loco, Tóxico DF
5) Chico Che & Rigo vs Arlequin Amarillo & Arlequin Rojo [hair]

Arlequin Rojo has been unmasked for one week and is putting up his hair. This is IWRG. At least the rest looks interesting.

LUCHA FAN FEST (SAT) 09/26 Circo Volador
1) Kumo & Urko vs Halcon Guerrero Loco & Loco
2) Epidemia & Heavy Boy vs Goleador & Jack
3) Konami vs Dinastia, Angel Suicida [LLJL JUVENIL]
4) Dark Angel & Fuka vs Bullfight Sora & Princesa Sujei

The wrestling show attached to a giant fan fest. A million people supposed to be there and signing autographs; it’ll be cheaper to count the people not showing up.

CMLL (SUN) 09/27 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala & Trueno vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Amapola, Dark Angel, Mima Shimoda vs Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei [Relevos Increíbles]

4) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Terrible, Tetsuya Naito
5) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Hijo de Lizmark, Último Guerrero

That match is listed as relevos increibles, but it looks more like “Dark Angel is getting KILLED.” The all ruda team is that new Zorras lineup. In CMLL universe, how do wrestlers get their matches? Why would Dark Angel ever agree to such a thing?

No Naito existing in a match without Yujiro.

CMLL (SUN) 09/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Nube Roja & Thunder Boy vs Katana & Skaxy
2) Magnum & Samurai vs Acertijo & Rafaga
3) Astaroth & Gallo vs Asesino Negro & Leon Blanco

1) Dark Angel & Lady Apache b Amapola & Hiroka
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito

5) Jushin Liger, Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro b Atlantis, Black Warrior, Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero
6) Místico b Negro Casas [hair]

Notes not gotten to last night
– Arena Mexico got a make over, with new lighting and walkway.
– CMLL says UG, Bam Bam and Volador were all taken to the hospital. Volador had major problems with his gear, and looked hurt thru the match.
– Bam Bam did get taken out going for an Asai moonsault, but Electrico beating Pierrothito was clearly the planned finish. As it turns out, Electrico is the young guy they were using this show to showcase a little more – see next week’s lineup.
– Finish to the main event didn’t come off right, and Negro didn’t get all his hair shaved off.

And on to Heroes Inmortales – previews by LuchandoLibre and SuperLuchas.

Box Y Lucha has short profiles of Pierroth and Alda Moreno.

Estrella del Ring notes the sub 10% attendance and badly run aspects of the Perros show in Cuernavaca.

CMLL (TUE) 09/22 Arena Mexico
1) Principe & Súper Camaleón vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela vs La Nazi, La Seductora, Yezca
3) Ángel Azteca Jr., Fabián el Gitano, Pegasso vs Hooligan, Nosferatu, Vangelis
4) Máscara Dorada, Sagrado, Valiente vs Hijo de Lizmark, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Negro Casas

It’s a card. Next one is more interesting.

CMLL (FRI) 09/25 Arena Mexico
1) Flash, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
2) Eléctrico vs Pierrothito [MEX LIGHT]
3) La Máscara, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Texano Jr.
4) Ángel de Oro & Místico vs Blue Panther & Rey Cometa and Rouge & Shocker and Ángel de Plata & Héctor Garza and Atlantis & Camorra and Mr. Niebla & Tiger Kid and Averno & Pólvora and Semental & Yujiro [Gran Alternativa]
5) Último Guerrero vs Jushin Liger [CMLL HEAVY]

Packed show.

Being it’s Liger and it’s the heavyweight title in a promotion without many actual heavyweights, CMLL might actually have him win and disappear with it back to Mexico. UG is the 80/20 favorite, but still…

Following last year’s pattern, all GA novatos are first timers, which means they’re going really deep to fill this out.

Mistico is the favorite in any tournament he’s in, but there are some other interesting possibilities. I think I’m rooting for the Panther/Cometa team. The Angel brothers teaming with the sorta feuding tecnicos would make for an interesting match. Tiger Kid teaming with one Pesta Negra is a nice touch. Shocker being included is odd, and makes me think they just wrote this lineup out last week and didn’t correct it. Maybe Warrior will end up in his spot? Five matches and a tournament means these are all going to be super short.

This is Pierrothito’s first defense of the title and I’d be very surprised to see him lose it.

CMLL 76th Anniversary Occasionally Live Results (now final)

Hi!

The CMLL show should be underway, and there looks to be at least one site doing actual live results

Going to do start an actual chat, but probably not until we actually get a radio show to listen to. (Radio show feed is mms://63.99.225.140/estadiow but not supposed to broadcasting the show until the final 2.)  Until then, feel free to comment in the comments.

For those who are in Mexico and/or otherwise have access to Televisa Deportes Network, they’ll be going on the air at 10:30 pm to broadcast the semimain the opener. That should be about when the radio picks up as well.

Some more links while we wait:

  • LuchandoLibre says no one’s seen Shocker since Wednesday. Maybe he’s just really sad Mascara Magica lost? (No, probably not.)
  • Cesar previews the top two matches

There are 3 minutes left in UAMGuadalajara vs Morelia, and announcers seem more excited about Mistico/Negro than this game.

Results below these words

Results:
1) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Hiroka (1-0!)
– this match ended up airing on TDN, not the semimain.
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b – Bam Bam got strechered out. Had the finish wrong here originally.
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Máscara Dorada, Sagrado b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca

Soccer game just wrapped, thought post game will be a while.

Lucha is on the air! Guess I should get that chat started.

Chat is finished – thanks for coming!

4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
– Rudos take the first (somehow)
– Mascara wins the second with a campana
– Averno pulls Volador’s mask for the DQ.
– Volador got stretched out and had a oxygen mask on, but it apparently wasn’t that dire.

5) Black Warrior, Héctor Garza, Shocker, Atlantis, Último Guerrero b Jushin Liger, Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
– Shocker is not here for reasons outside the control of CMLL, we’re told
– Japan takes fall 1, Mexico fall 2
– Liger pins UG, with his feet on the ropes?
– challenges after the match, though UG is at least the third taking a strecher ride. Brainbuster set it up.

6) Místico vs Negro Casas [mask, hair]
– this match will NOT air tomorrow on TV; they’re holding back for a month or two
– Felino is in Negro’s corner. Sombra is with Mistico.
– Mistico takes fall one in about 6.
– Negro takes fall two in 7. With a little extra help.
– Mistico pins Negro in fall 3, after about 14 minutes. That’s the win.
– Mistico challenges Felino (and hits him with the trash can) after the match. Why not.

Final previews for tonight’s show

It’s hours away from the moment everyone’s been waiting for: the IWRG Super Weletweight Champion squares off against the IWRG Middleweight Champion in a battle. Also, masks, hair, pride, country, other things that do not matter as much as IWRG’s Super Welterweight championship.

PREVIEWS
Ovaciones – is that a scam-ish looking ad on the right side of the page? Weird.
– LuchandoLibre: women, minis, tercera, cuarta, semimain, main event
– Box Y Lucha matches up the main event competitors, and quotes Negro as saying Niebla & Felino will NOT get involved in tonight’s match.
Slammin Stan’s podcast with Dr. Lucha and Bix – and discussion of my horrific Hamlet post from yesterday. Every other thing I post should be deleted, and the other half should be slowly deleted.
ESTO, who has a list of wrestlers they’re surprised didn’t make the card: Shocker, Blue Panther, Perro Aguayo Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., LA Park, and Los Villanos. It is kinda odd to realize the main event guys from last year aren’t even on this show, but some of those names…
El Universal
notimex
Estadio Deportes
– I didn’t ever see Cesar’s previews for the top 2, but I’ll add them in when I see them.

As both ESTO and Ovaciones pick up, Atlantis is now on the show, taking Shocker’s place. There’s no explanation given, but I’m guessing they both just got today’s ad for the show (CMLL advertises both), noticed the change in the semimain, and that’s all we know.

Shocker wrestled in Guadalajara Wednesday, a show that got a lot more attention than usual because of Liger, and no one said anything about Shocker being hurt. If it was just an injury, he’ll probably make an appearance before his scheduled match tonight. If Shocker does not appear, that’s a really bad sign. CMLL appeared to be booking to Yujiro/Warrior and then Shocker/Garza vs No Limit, which would be up in the air.

Otherwise, nothing going on. At all!

CMLL (WED) 09/16 Auditorio Miguel Barragan [El Mojado @ el martinete]
1) Calígula & Méssala b As Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr.
2) Astro Boy, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
3) Bam Bam & Mascarita Dorada b Pequeño Damian 666 & Pequeño Warrior
4) Heavy Metal, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Sagrado, Stuka Jr., Valiente
5) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Negro got DQed for taking Mistico’s mask. A little ahead of schedule there. Valiente & Astro Boy are swapped from what we had, but that was likely a mistake. Photos at the link.

There’s an exhibit of lucha libre artwork in Corpus Christi, Texas, until October 9th.

AWS (SAT) 09/26 AWS Outdoor Arena [el defensor @ el martinete]
