Shocker resurfaces in GDL, Liger beats Mistico again

CMLL (SUN) 09/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
5) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Shocker b Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Hey, look who showed up! Maybe Shocker just had important business in GDL all week. Garza pinned Terrible for the win. Fuego oddly doesn’t report any of the undercard, which included a mask match. Pictures show Astaroth with Fraile de la Muerte’s photos mask, which is pretty good indicator.

4) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero b Toscano, Valiente, Volador Jr.

Liger took falls 1 and 3, winning clean. No mention of a title match here next week.

El Siglo de Torreon talks to Sombra & Dragon Rojo, who were back in town working a CMLL show (one Ultimo Guerrero missed and was replaced by Black Warrior.) The last paragraph mentions Sombra is headed to Japan in December. Dragon Rojo says local wrestlers Aspid & Insolito are planning on going to DF, and suggests Black Boy, Dorado Jr. and Eterno might be next.

LuchandoLibre has photos from Alex Koslov’s rally. People showed up! (Though maybe it was their job to show up.) Looks like a dozen or two. I like the posters which make fun of Roldan’s mustache the best.

Al Filo del Ring interviews Xibalba about his career and the WFS promotion he works in (and his father owns.)

Lizmark Jr. out of CMLL, long digressions about tangential topics

The newest SuperLuchas mentions Lizmark Jr. has jumped to the Perros del Mal. There’s a tease for a Box Y Lucha article that seems to indicate the same. He’s still on the lineup for Tuesday’s show, and I think a no-show is a perfect way for him to go out. More seriously, CMLL had clearly given up on using him in any meaningful role; it’s really hard to get CMLL to fire you unless they think you’re done in the ring, but they it looked like it was going to be a long time before they’d give Lizmark Jr. a storyline; maybe just one too many no shows. Lizmark fits with the Perros and needs a new start, but going to a group without actual TV doesn’t give you a start of anything.

According to AAA’s lineups, Billy Gunn is working a spot show on 10/05. Rob thinks this is Billy Boy weirdly typo-ed. I will cling to that belief for now. You know, if you look at that link with Billy Gunn, the page name is “jkjkjkjkk” – I hope that means this is just a cruel prank and they’re really just kidding.

AAA lineups also include such randomness as “Alan Stone, suddenly a rudo” (redoing Intocable/Alan with Elegido woudln’t be the worst idea – that idea is BILLY GUNN), a mystery (female) tecnica on some of the shows, and a mystery (male) tecnico.

Cesar has a very well thought out piece about why Mexican wrestlers have had trouble making it to WWE (and other us promotions) and what changes those who have made it have done. I agree with all of it, but I think there’s a couple logistical explanations he misses. Cesar notes WWE’s given more developmental chances to those from the Caribbean, and it’s important to remember those coming in from Puerto Rico don’t need a passport. It’s been emphasized in the story about Angelina Love (famous ex-AAA star Angel Williams) being dropped from TNA that it’s quite a process to get a correct visa for foreign talent, and the barrier it becomes to foreign talent – TNA’s now only using wrestlers with working visa (and wrestlers are on their own to get them), and WWE’s talked in the past about setting up developmental territories in Canada and England so they could weed out people before having to wait to get them in the US. At least for those two countries, WWE runs TV tapings, and invited local wrestlers get an opportunity to showcase themselves in the ring and have a chance to make some connections. I don’t think this is ever done on house shows, so Mexicans don’t get those chances. WWE doesn’t scout, WWE barely knows what’s going on in the world around it, so no one’s getting their attention without some sort of connection.

One last thing is WWE seems much more likely to extend contracts to those who are really young and pretty much unknown (or willing to be treated as if they’re unknown.) The guys who come up in rumors are usually 30+ and midcarders or above in a major promotions – but not one that means much to WWE. It seems to be that the next guy to come from Mexico is much more likely to be someone who’s a near unknown to everyone outside their local arena than a household one.

Box Y Lucha has semiformatted profiles of Imperial and Caricia.

Mistico told ESTO that, when Negro put La Mistica on him on Friday, he was very scared for the first time very that he might lose his mask. Reforma interviewed CMLL’s barber about cutting Negro Casas’ hair.

Lucha Va Voom got some press heading to New York, including in the Post.

SuperLuchas #331 has bald Negro Casas. Lock of the week is Sarita & Taylor Wilde winning TNA Women’s Tag Team Titles is in the cover next week.

2) Epidemia & Heavy Boy vs Goleador & Jack
3) Konami vs Dinastia, Angel Suicida [LLJL JUVENIL]

The wrestling show attached to a giant fan fest. A million people supposed to be there and signing autographs; it’ll be cheaper to count the people not showing up.

CMLL (SUN) 09/27 Arena Coliseo

5) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Hijo de Lizmark, Último Guerrero

That match is listed as relevos increibles, but it looks more like “Dark Angel is getting KILLED.” The all ruda team is that new Zorras lineup. In CMLL universe, how do wrestlers get their matches? Why would Dark Angel ever agree to such a thing?

No Naito existing in a match without Yujiro.
