In celebration of Mexican independence day, this blog will be independent of any useful content. Much like normal.
Sicodelico Jr. was let go from FCW. Cesar writes a lot about this, saying making it/not making it to WWE is no stamp of quality. My thought here is Sicodelico had little to lose – he was working Texas independents and occasional NWA shows, not exactly a full time bit – by taking a developmental deal and he probably learned a lot from it. (Including some he probably didn’t want to learn.) Dos would be a different story.
[poll id=”44″]Tonight’s main event in Arena Coliseo is Angeles Rebeldes vs Trio de Terror. This is known title defense five (all the papers seem to be agreeing on that number, so we may be accurate there for once.) This is also Avenro & company’s third shot at the belts, the previous two in Arena Mexico. Losing 3 straight in DF seems unlikely, but Garza’s lost three straight CMLL Heavyweight Title matches in Puebla, so they’re not afraid of doing it. I think the titles do not change hands.
CMLL is also running full shows in Guadalajara (the usual Tuesday show) and San Luis Potosi (Wednesday is the traditional big wrestling day there.) Due to the holiday, I’m sure there are many small shows going on in DF we’re not reading about, but there’s not much left of the roster to work them.
Looking ahead, Hector Garza explains the Mexican rudos and tecnicos have signed a non-aggression pact. They’re all united as Mexicans to prove Mexican wrestling is better than Japanese wrestling. Garza notes they’re the home team and so they shouldn’t lose.
Astaroth talks about the mask match with Fraile de la Muerte next week. He’s the novato, Fraile is the older rudo, and things haven’t gone well for the older rudos here lately. Just like Fraile (and everyone else), Astaroth is surprised they’re doing the mask match so soon.
Ohtani’s Jacket watches some classic Infernales from 1987.

On the day that Mexico gained independence from the Spaniards, I think La Triada del Terror will win the trios titles thus ending the tecnicos reign.
Rule of threes always applies in wrestling. The only thing throwing me off is that the show is in Arena Coliseo. Still… tonight we will be one step closer to setting a record for most title changes within a year.
How should I feel about this Dos Jr./Sico Jr. story? I’m torn because on one hand… Dos Jr. seems like the biggest prick in the world so it’ll be funny when he fails and all his lies are exposed. On the other hand if he fails he will immediatly return to stinking up CMLL main events as a rudo, perhaps also with Sico Jr. by his side. Since Mexicans have such an inferiority complex, the two would surely be pushed right to the top and guarantee a decline in CMLL attendance to end the year. So… I really don’t know what to think about this situation. It’s a loss either way.
What’s with the new CMLL GDL bookers taking masks like crazy? Won’t this be the fourth person to lose their mask since the booking change not more than 2 or 3 months ago?
I’d say Mephisto and Efesto are the next two in line to lose a mask.
If Dos does leave WWE, he’ll have to lose his mask in ArMex, as he already worked without a mask. He has a good look without it, so his career should be fine either way.
@Rob: this will make more sense here:
It seems like there have been more title changes this year than there were title defenses in CMLL last year.
@Alan: That’s another stat Cubs needs to look up! We’re still a few title changes off from setting the record as Cubs pointed out a month or so ago but I have no doubt that will be crushed in November at the latest.
I wonder how many titles DEFENSES there were last year compared to this year. Has to be near a 3:1 ratio.
I kind of don’t hate Dos Caras Jr. as a rudo in CMLL. I thought he was getting bland the last year as a tecnico. As a rudo, at least he had devil horns and a tail. The biggest negative was that for a really tall luchador, he played chickenshit heel similarly to Casas, which made him look pretty weak.
That said, I hope he stays in WWE. I like the CMLL roster the way it is right now except maybe Ray Mendoza Jr.
@Rob: Fourth mask match – La Magnifica, Azazel, Milenio, and this one – since April, which I think is a little before the switch over. Five hair matches this year so far.
