luchawiki is back up! (mostly)

luchawiki.org is back up and open for editing. I encourage people to try it out, and see if I’ve broken anything. I probably have.

luchawiki.com should redirect to the site shortly, but I’m waiting on a DNS change. If you’re seeing something about a suspended page, you need to try luchawiki.org.

Thanks for your patience.

AAA in Dallas, AAA/WWC (maybe), Mexico, Guadalajara

I keep forgetting to mention this, and it’s not going to last too much longer so I better get to it.

CHIKARA is offering a two dollar ($2US) DVD sampler thru SmartMarkVideo. (Deal is only in the US, sorry my friends in Mexico.) It’s 2 hours. It’s 5 matches. It’s really good stuff. If you a person who is interested enough in lucha libre to be reading this blog regularly and have not already checked out CHIKARA, you need to go buy this DVD right now. Stop reading, go do it! Deal ends 10/03, so you need to stop wasting time.

IN FACT, I’m going to make a one time offer. IF you are a regular on this blog (and I know who you are, because there’s really only like 13 of you) who hasn’t seen CHIKARA before, IF you buy this DVD and do not get your $2 worth, you can send it to me, and I’ll paypal you TWO DOLLARS back.

(I am making this deal because I do not expect to be paying any money back, and plus I will not pay your shipping costs so you’d might be losing money on the refund, but the principal is there. Also, it’s TWO DOLLARS. )

Go to SmartMarkVideo, order the DVD, enjoy the DVD. Actually, while you’re at SmartMark, go buy something else that looks good, because there’s no way they’re making money on TWO DOLLAR DVDs.

End free plug.

AAA will be returning to the US on 10/22 in Dallas, TX at the Escapade 2001 night club.

AAA (THU) 10/22 Escapade 2001, Dallas, TX
1) Fabi Apache & Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro & Sexy Star
2) Crazy Boy, Marco Corleone, Súper Fly vs Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown
3) Jack Evans, La Parka Jr., Laredo Kid vs Ozz, Silver King, Teddy Hart

That’s a lot smaller venue then they were running in California, though they have hosted lucha libre before. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, somewhere. (Thanks to LLL for pointing this out.)

Might not be the only show in the US this year. Apparently, Teddy Hart told the hosts of the Sunday Night Showdown show (on their latest show, around 2:03:50) about upcoming plans for AAA and himself. According to Teddy, AAA and Puerto Rico’s WWC have reached an agreement where each side will be sending a dozen over to work against each other, with a major AAA vs WWC show in Puerto Rico in December. Teddy also says he and Jack will be getting a tryout with WWE’s Florida Championship Wrestling in late October. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is coming from Teddy Hart, involves AAA doing something, plus it’s surely possible something may have gotten misunderstood here – it’s a 50/50 bet at best, and probably shouldn’t be thought about too much until/IF! it actually happens on TV. Even the hosts of the show point that out. Thanks to Latino718 for pointing this out to me.

CMLL (TUE) 09/29 Arena Mexico [ESTO, CMLL]
1) Camorra & Cholo b Freelance? & Súper Camaleón
2) Bronco, Dr. X, Escorpion b Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Tony Rivera
3) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela DQ Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Blanca
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Máscara Dorada, Sagrado, Stuka Jr.
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Atlantis, Heavy Metal, Ray Mendoza Jr.

As suggested, Atlantis and Mendoza could not get along. It appeared Mendoza cost his team the first fall, so Metal took Atlantis side. Rudos managed to get it together for most the second fall, but Mendoza got annoyed with his teammates, they kicked him out of the ring, and the tecnicos pulled them into campanas for the win. Metal and Atlantis beat up V5 after the match.

Semimain sounds good.

No word on the DQ in the women’s match, but I’d assume Blanca pulled Lluvia’s mask again. CMLL mentions the DQ but doesn’t even show a picture of it.

CMLL lists the opening match partner of Super Camaleon as “Freelance”, but it’s a masked guy who doesn’t appear to be the Freelance we all know. It was supposed to be “Freesbee”, and it probably still was, but we’ll wait for the correction.

CMLL (TUE) 09/29 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) In Memoria & Relampago Azul b El Divino & Meteoro
2) Angel del Mal & Drago b Idolo & Metatrón
3) Gallo & Palacio Negro b Malefico & Rey Trueno
4) Mictlán & Rouge b Shigeo Okumura & Virus
5) Ephesto, Terrible, Texano b Máximo, Shocker, Toscano

Rudos appeared to have won clean. Rouge hurt himself on a dive in the third fall of the semimain, but was able to recover enough to get his hand raised. Amusing to see Okumura lose here given the push in DF.

The Gladiatores has an interview with Charly Manson, who might have a little to talk about. There’s also a text interview with Oriental about his career and look, and more video interviews with Pantera and a two part interview with UWA wrestler Babe Face

Estrella del Ring has text interviews with Cuernavaca wrestler Eddy Vega and Acapulco’s Captian Atomo.

Hablando de catch takes a look at the work of the primary belt maker in Mexico, Santos Rodriguez and his many belts. He started out as a wrestler, as Estadio de Mexico lightweight champion, who wanted to have a copy of the belt, so he learned how to make them. I didn’t notice this before, but upon close inspection of the CMLL Universal Championship, it appears Rodriguez agrees with those who no longer rate Pluto as a planet.

Kcidis has a picture of Solar.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s update.

quick note about the luchawiki move

It’s taking forever. I was up to 2am last night and still couldn’t get some of the folders to sync off the old server to my PC.

I’m already putting them up on the new server, but no idea how long uploading the database is going to take, and I can’t do that until I change the DNS, and I don’t want to do that until I get all the files off. The site may be down for editing until this weekend, though I’m obviously hoping for better.

We may have a situation where one of the address points to the old site until I get the new site running, but but I’ll let you know when I get that far.

Not really keen on making this move, but server costs went up 6x last month so I didn’t feel like I had much of a choice. Luchawiki is not a non-profit, it’s a non-revenue, so there’s not exactly money in the budget for such increases. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Update!: Progress is going much better, but these thumbnails are killing me.

Anyway, for the time being

  • luchawiki.com is the CURRENT(/old) site – you can still look up things there, though I haven’t played it with much
  • avoid luchawiki.org for the time being.

Pirata in IWRG, UG vs Volador, Mistico retains, Charly left AAA because…

IWRG (SUN) 09/27 Arena Naucalpan [Black Terry Jr./Esterlla del Ring]
1) Rey Tempestad b Dark Saint
2) Eragon & Pendulo b Epidemia & Heavy Boy
3) Bushi, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II b Avisman, El Hijo del Diablo, Gringo Loco
4) Black Terry, Dement, Tóxico DF b Chico Che, Exodia, Rigo
5) Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Pirates destroyed the Oficials. Dement is a guy in knockoff Mankind gear, including the mask.

CMLL (SUN) 09/27 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Bengala & Trueno b Calígula & Méssala
2) Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Amapola, Dark Angel, Mima Shimoda [Relevos Increíbles]
3) Fabián el Gitano, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Dr. X, Loco Max, Vangelis
4) Ray Mendoza Jr., Terrible, Tetsuya Naito b Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Sagrado
5) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr. DQ Black Warrior, Felino, Último Guerrero

The third fall ended with Garza, Volador and UG in the ring. Garza, facing away from the rudo, boosted Volador up for a ‘rana, only for UG to duck under and heel kick foul him on the way down. Hector checked on Volador after the match, but Volador angrily pushed him away (!) then challenged UG for a match next week.

As suspected, the second match ended up with all the rudas stomping a mudhole on poor Dark Angel. If only she had some sort of partner who could help her out here.

CMLL hasn’t announced it on their site yet, but ESTO has posted a modified lineup for Sunday.

CMLL (SUN) 10/04 Arena Coliseo
1) Delta & Trueno vs Semental & Zayco
2) Astro Boy, Metálico, Starman vs Calígula, Méssala, René Guajardo Jr.
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Vangelis, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Místico, Toscano vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Volador Jr. vs Último Guerrero

Poder Mexica, Valiente, and Mictlan all appear dropped. Unless they just add them to go to the usual six match card with a singles main event.

CMLL (MON) 09/28 Arena Puebla [Fuego en el Ring, SuperLuchas]
1) Black Tiger, Lestat, Milenium b Mr. Rafaga, Sauron, Siki Osama
2) Artillero, Pólvora, Súper Comando b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Plata, Sensei
3) Euforia, Nosferatu, Skándalo b Flash, Metro, Stuka Jr.
4) Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro b Atlantis, Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Último Guerrero
5) Místico b Jushin Liger [IWGP JH]

HOORAY for Fuego en el Ring having full Puebla results on Tuesday. Figure it’s a special thing for Mistico/Liger, but would love to see it every week.

Liger beat Mistico with a crushing Ligerbomb in the first fall. Mistico was so hurt, they put him on a strechered and started to carry him to the back, but Mistico refused to go down that way and rallied back. He won the second fall with a suplex, and the third with what sounds like a shoulderbreaker. Two defenses, who’s next?

Liger ends the tour 5-6, as far as matches we’ve heard about, but it sure feels stronger than that. He went 4-1 in Coliseo/Mexico. I think CMLL booked Liger trip in as well as they’ve booked anything of late; he got build up super strong, and the top guys got to vanquish him before he left. That’s the way to do it.

Dragon Rojo replaced Mr. Niebla. Warriro did the hair challenge to Yujiro again. Nosferatu snatched Stuka’s mask in their match, though the rudos were winning that anyway.

According to last week’s Wrestling Observer Radio, AAA never told Charly Manson he was going to lose his hair. Instead, AAA just refused to tell him anything. Apparently, the current policy is to not tell the wrestlers what their finishes will be until the day of the show (presumably only for TV tapings.) Charly thought it was disrespectful not to be told, and so he left. Meanwhile, AAA lauds Electroshock for taking the hair match in place of his brother, and ESTO says AAA still plans to sue.

Fuego en el Ring interviews Rayo de Jalisco. He thinks CMLL has too much young vs young, and the fans want to see youth vs experience. He’ll never go back to AAA – “I spend three weeks in Triple and I think it was the worst experience I had in my life.” Rayo de Jalisco believes the last strong rivalry in lucha libre was Rayo de Jailsco vs Cien Caras. There was a mix up previously where he was advertised to make an return to Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, and Rayo blames that on Apolo Dantes promoting him without actually checking with the office to see if he could be back there. He hopes to be back in GDL by the end of the year, but there’s not the usual “I’m coming back to CMLL in a few months” bit here.

Konnan’s talk about Cibernetico doesn’t appear to be anything new; the usual “I was a star in the US, Cibernetico never accomplished anything” bit, plus the “there are no up and coming stars like there was when I was an up and coming stars.”

Fuego also talks to Leono, who would like to turn rudo. His brother is in the CMLL school, and may end up wrestling with the same name Leono started with (Mustang).

AAA explains who Konnan Big is by embedding a link to his music video. Well played. No music video for Go Shiozaki, which is disappointing.

Following up on the odd listing of Cinthia Moreno & Oriental teaming up on an indy show, Dr. Landru @ box y lucha foro (and others) say it’s a typo and it’ll actually be Rossy Moreno working the show.

ESTO notes today’s main event rudo side probably is fated for disaster. Atlantis and Villano V doesn’t quite work as a team, with Atlantis responible for V3’s mask loss and Atlantis’ best friend Ultimo Guerrero taking Villano V’s mask. Good thing there’s the level headed presence of Heavy Metal to settle them down.

Proyeccion Luchistica has photos of lucha libre fan fest, and R Rudo talks about the shows. Similar pricing complaints as the lucha libre expo.

Luchas 2000 #489 has what you’d expect: Electrico & Pierrothito with the belts, Charly joining the Perros, and Okumura winning Gran Alternativa. No AAA results.

Ohtani’s Jacket checks out the opener from 09/14/09. A best of Puebla 2009 is a fine idea.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

AAA (SAT) 10/03 Plaza de Toros el Pinal, Teziutitlan [AAA]
1) Fabi Apache & Gran Apache vs Billy Boy & Sexy Star
2) Alan Stone & Relampago vs Pasion Kristal & Pimpinela Escarlata
3) Cibernético & Gronda vs Gronda II & Kenzo Suzuki

BEST WORKER IN THE MAIN IS KENZO SUZUKI. I need sirens and a big red button to hit when something like that happens.

Edit: left this in the wrong tab and forgot to include it:

IWRG (TUE) 09/22 Arena Naucalpan [Proyeccion Luchistica]
1) Maldito Jr., Poseidon, Samot b Espada de Plata, Halcon Fire, Master
2) Gringo Loco b Imperio Azteca, Keshin Black, Fly Star, Imperial, DVD, Serpiente Dorada, Halcon 2000, Hijo del Signo, Alan Extreme, Comando del Diablo, Fenix, Dinamic Black [cibernetico]

Gringo Loco wins! Just a two match trainee show, of guys who work first and second matches (and Gringo Loco.) Proyeccion Luchistica is high on Fly Star’s perfomance here, though I wish he would’ve labeled more of the pictures.

Liger in Acapulco, GDL, Rouge

No Coliseo (DF) results yet. (No Ovaciones either.)

CMLL (SAT) 09/26 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [EdR]
1) Kuman & Titere DQ Factor Miedo & Fenix
2) Destroyer & Pocima Letal b Capitan Atomo & Cobra 007
3) Brazo de Oro, Brazo de Platino, Super Brazo b Arkangel de la Muerte, Demonio Negro, Skándalo
4) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado b Euforia, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Héctor Garza & Místico DQ Jushin Liger & Negro Casas

Liger thought he was losing in the third fall, so he fouled Mistico. He’s adapted so well.

CMLL (SUN) 09/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
0) Principe Dylan b Johnny Dinamo
1) Nube Roja & Thunder Boy b Katana & Skaxy
2) Acertijo & Rafaga DQ Magnum & Samurai
3) Gallo & Hierro b Asesino Negro & Leon Blanco
4) La Máscara, Mictlán, Rouge b Ephesto, Euforia, Virus
5) Místico, Shocker, Toscano b Jushin Liger, Texano Jr., Yujiro

Mistico got Texano with La Mistica. DQ was for Samuari yanked Rafaga’s mask. Hierro replaced Astaroth, who hasn’t been back in the ring since winning Fraile de la Muerte’s mask. Maybe he got hurt in that match?

Pretty sure Mistico retains tonight.

Notimex interviews Rouge, who feels he’s been lucky in his short career already.

Box Y Lucha #2941 has results from Hereoes Inmortales III.

Vanguardia has a profile of a dessert shop named Popeye, who’s owner says he was the original Escorpion Negro.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news updates from Saturday and Sunday

CMLL (THU) 10/01 Arena Olimpico Laguna de Gomez Palacio [el siglo de torreon]
1) Power Ranger I & Power Ranger II vs Camorra & Demencia
2) Cesar Garza & Dorada Jr. vs Arana del Futuro & Aspid
3) Sexy Piscis vs Gran Davis Jr.
4) Atlantis & Último Guerrero vs Shigeo Okumura & Yujiro

UG bringing Yujiro all the way to his home turf to try and beat him.

indy (MON) 10/05 Estadio de Fut Rap [manana]
1) Solar I, Super Astro, Ultraman vs Black Terry, el Signo, Negro Navarro
2) Cinthia Moreno & Oriental vs Pentagon Black & Xochitl Hamada and La Diabólica & Zumbido [IVP MIXED TAG]
3) El Hijo Del Santo, LA Park, Super Porky vs Blue Demon Jr., Charly Manson, Rayo de Jalisco Jr.

I think Cinthia’s just working a show outside of AAA, but is still with AAA herself. That’s what Oriental was saying when talking about his own departure.

HdI notes, Perros have TV but where? (no, really, where?), lineups

As noted in the twitter feed, I’m having some major hard disk issues. The only lucky part is so much of what I do is in The Cloud (this website, the wiki, my mail), I haven’t lost that. (Yet) Still, I’m stuck on a bad laptop for a moment, so there may be some limitations to what gets done. Please bear with me, and keep an eye on the Twitter feed for updates. And thanks for the suggestion, Kyle, I’m going to try that.

I’ll save most of the links for tomorrow morning, but I’d be remiss not to point you to the Heroes de Inmortales recap over at Estrellas del Ring. Some choice notes not found in the AAA recap

  • attendance is said to be around 11,000
  • Vampiro was on the show. He was one of the guys who showed up to challenge Chessman, and was in charge of presenting the plaque to Cibernetico for winning the torneo Antonio Pena. That’s an obvious feud set up – but if Vamp & Cibernetico fight, that would seem to clinch another Mesias/Wagner match. (Can’t fight anyone else, of course.)
  • Konnan’s female wrestlers were slightly different here than last – no Rain, no Nikki Roxx. Looks like it was Girl Dinamite again, this time with Lorelei Lee (and not the adult film star of the same name; that has to be annoying.) They distracted Fabi to set up Sexi’s win in their match, so it wasn’t clean as previously thought.

I also keep forgetting that local advertising in GDL (right?) for Guerra de Titanes has been billing a Fabi vs Sexi hair vs mask match. Which they’re still on target for doing.

  • Ring was six sides. AAA recap made it sound like it was 4 last night, and they’d actually be doing four enough that I thought they might be going back to it as standard. But no, it was six sides.

SuperLuchas 333 has Gran Alternativa coverage on the cover and (yes!) Sarita & Taylor Wilde with the TNA tag belts. To me, the big story was the interview with Perro Aguayo Jr., who explain they’ll be on TV on October 18. Where? Perro: “It’s a surprise.” That’s a different approach to promoting.

Lineups!

CMLL (TUE) 09/29 Arena Mexico
1) Freesebee & Súper Camaleón vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Tony Rivera vs Bronco, Dr. X, Escorpion
3) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Blanca
4) Máscara Dorada, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Atlantis, Heavy Metal, Ray Mendoza Jr.

Freesbee? Diamante and Escorpion escape the opener pretty quick.

Knowing CMLL, there’s at least a 10 percent change that main event rudo trio wins the trios titles in a few weeks. Which would be 100% awful.

IWRG (THU) 10/01 Arena Naucalpan
1) Fly Star vs Halcon 2000
2) Eragon & Jack vs Carta Brava Jr. & Hijo del Signo
3) Bushi, Exodia, Hombre Bala Jr. vs Gringo Loco, Memphis, Xibalba
4) Avisman vs Freelance [IWRG IC Light]
5) Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Hombre Bala Jr.! All those fans coming for the excitement of the Arlequin/Rigo/Chico Che feud are going to be really sad not to see them here. Also, funny that Pirata Morgan Jr. – by all accounts, the actual son – is not in the trio at the moment.

CMLL (FRI) 10/02 Arena Mexico
1) Leono & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Metro vs Euforia [lightning]
4) La Sombra, Valiente, Volador Jr. vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) Ángel de Oro, Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Black Warrior, Místico, Último Guerrero vs Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro

Yea, they could’ve done that without him winning the Gran Alternativa. Angel de Oro gets a makeup semifinal.  And Shocker’s scheduled! We’ll see if that lasts all the way to Friday.

The opener is quite the “whatever happened to” match.

CMLL (SUN) 10/04 Arena Coliseo
1) Delta & Trueno vs Semental & Zayco
2) Astro Boy, Metálico, Starman vs Calígula, Méssala, René Guajardo Jr.
3) Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Vangelis, Virus
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca vs Blue Panther, Mictlán, Valiente
5) Místico, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

They should reinvent Semental as a fiercely patriotic, bordering on xenophonic hero. Rene Guajardo is unbroken, nice to see.

Note that whoever’s booking this week apparently agrees with Sangre Azteca about Misterioso being part of Poder Mexica. Which leaves the national trios titles kinda in limbo, but what else is new.

CMLL (SUN) 10/04 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Metatrón & Nube Roja vs Güero Loco & Titanio
2) Palacio Negro vs AcertijoVirgoAngel del MalSaturno,RelampagoEl DivinoIn MemoriaMeteoroThunder Boy[OCCIDENTE WELTER, cibernetico]
3) Fabián el Gitano & Metro vs Hooligan & Loco Max
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

That’s a match for the vacant championship. Former champion is Metalik, who has vanished from the landscape of lucha libre. In an unrelated note, they should’ve put Mascara Dorada in the semifinal somehow.

IWRG (SUN) 10/04 Arena Naucalpan
1) Dinamic Black vs Rey Tempestad
2) Eragon & Imperial vs Maldito Jr. & Samoa
3) Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Star Boy vs El Hijo del Diablo, Fantasma de la Ópera, Gringo Loco
4) Bushi, Pendulo, Suicida vs Dement, Tóxico, Veneno
5) Chico Che, Exodia, Rigo vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro

Chico Che’s going for the gold!
