quick Sunday notes

Just got home, and really don’t have it to do a full update. Here’s the things you need to know:

  • Antonio Pena Memorial show is on 09/26 at Arena Monterrey.
  • Main event will be Mesias vs Wagner for the title
  • Koslov, currently Cruiserweight champ, lost the loser-leaves-town cage match on tonight’s taping. They did do the “first out is #1 contenders” bit that was on the poster but never mentioned by the website (of course, on the show, they pretended like all of this was decided during the show by Roldan), and Extreme Tiger was first out. Dunno what’ll mean, but I would be surprised if he’s going anywhere.
  • I don’t see any “!!!!!!” posts, so I presume Mistico is still IWGP champ. Don’t see any report yet, but we’ll get one tomorrow.
  • Nothing too interesting on the IWRG/etc cards from SuperLuchas. The AJPW guys (Nosawa, Masada, Kai) are in town on the weekend for the IWRG High Power Cup, and they’re going with the likes of V3 and Sangre Chicana elsewise. Didn’t CMLL announce next Sunday was an Arena Mexico show? It’s not. They ought to just skip it this month for both shows to make the anniversary show stick out more.

There’s more. I can’t remember any of it.

About the show at Congress: main event was superb. If you were reading my twitter (sorry!), it turned me around on the whole show. Talked myself into going to this show on the theory that you really need to see Perro Aguayo Jr. live (and up close) to appreciate him, and the theory got proven. The undercard was a waste of my life and I’m still never going back to that cursed building again, except for next week’s Dragon Gate show. When AAA runs Chicago again, and they eventually will, I pray they’re running anywhere else.

More when I’m not so out of it.

Run ins in Arena Mexico, next week’s lineups

CMLL (FRI) 08/28 Arena Mexico [ESTO, Cesar, Ovaciones, SuperLuchas]
1) Astro Boy & Molotov b Camorra & Tiger Kid
2) Calígula b Guerrero Maya Jr. [lightning]
3) Flash, Pegasso, Stuka Jr. b Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skándalo
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca b Máximo, Mictlán, Rouge
5) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero DQ Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro
6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. DQ Atlantis, Felino, Mr. Niebla

Main event tecnicos were about to win when Negro ran in and hit Mistico wtih a trash can. Mexican team were about to win the semimian when Okumura ran in and attacked for the DQ. Warrior and Yujiro made hair vs hair motions, but they didn’t offically say anything – they weren’t even given the mic for that.

Skandalo (taking the Skandalo driver from Stuka) and Guerrero Maya (quebadora before the submission finish?) were strechered out after their matches. Cesar says the lightning match was very good, but the crowd booed it throughout. Mixed reviews on Rouge. Mictlan was cut on his head during his match.

FWIW: Rey Misterio Jr. talks about his suspension. He says he had the prescription for the drugs, but he didn’t get enough time to provide it.

LuchaLibreAAA is promising an update after Sunday’s show on who’s lost the cage match and will be gone from AAA. Also, exciting footage of Billy Boy sitting around and doing little.

El Universal has an article on the CMLL minis turning 17.

Kcidis looks at Gronda vs Gronda.

Estrella del Ring has an interview with Pandemonium, who swears he has nothing to do with H1N1.

CMLL (TUE) 09/01 Arena Mexico
1) Scorpion & Semental vs Diamante & Molotov
2) Hooligan, Pólvora, Tiger Kid vs Guerrero Maya Jr., Metálico, Tigre Blanco
3) Fabián el Gitano, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Skándalo
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Fourth is a rematch. Perhaps another Negro run in on the main event? Opener is Scorpion’s DF debut, and maybe we’ll get a clear idea if it’s supposed to be Scorpion or Escorpion by then.

CMLL (FRI) 09/04 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Delta vs Durango Kid & Turbo
2) Stuka Jr. vs Loco Max [lightning]
3) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela vs Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
4) Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca vs Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Negro Casas vs Místico

They’re building up Negro Casas vs Mistico by doing the singles match twice in a week. Huh. I guess it’s a different strategy, and it’s not like the trios build works when they’ve announced the match. think there’s the also the problem of Negro probably not winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship on Sunday and attempting to balance it out here.

Turbo? Name seems familiar! Lightning match seems banished to the second on the card. No Yujiro/Warrior match here, so we’ve got that (and the Leyenda de Plata, and the Gran Alternative) somewhere after 09/18.

CMLL (WED) 09/16 Auditorio Miguel Barragan [El Sol de San Luis]
1) As Jr. & Guerrero Maya Jr. vs Calígula & Méssala
2) Bam Bam & Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Damian 666 & Pequeño Warrior
3) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Valiente vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
4) Astro Boy, Sagrado, Stuka Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Texano Jr.
5) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Article says this is being taped for TV. Maybe it is.

AAA #899 (08/22)

taped 07/19

This show was thought provoking, and I need some help processing this thought. Let’s crowd source an answer:

[poll id=”41″]

“None of these men can actually run” is not an option.

Aerostar & Fabi Apache vs Billy Boy & Sexy Star in a lumberjack strap match – this was really short for this feud, but I’m totally OK with that given the limiting stips. They stopped it right when they ran out of ideas for strapping bits, the good place for it. Need to get the Billy/Mari match. (Probably not.)

Alex Koslov, Sugi, Teddy Hart vs Extreme Tiger, Rocky Romero, Jack Evans – these matches really should be about a hot move comeback, and they never seem to remember to do them. The rudos get in all their moves, the tecnicos start to get their moves, and then the rudos just cut them off again to do more moves and set up the dives

El Elegido & Gronda II vs Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario – On this night, Elegido was worse than Gronda. Let’s see if that holds.

Dr. Wagner Jr., Laredo Kid, Marco Corleone vs Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown – if you don’t announce the captains, and you do a fake finish based on who’s the captains, that’s less a swerve and more plain bad

#1 contender rumble – the last time they did one of these, you had to go over the top rope. Not so much this time. Who knows. They had Mesias start first in the last rumble only to be thrown out by Chessman, though I’m not sure if they were playing off that finish or if they’re just really uncreative.

Bonus: Double Date – exactly what I wanted it to be.

Scorpio Jr. 25th Anniversary, CMLL anniversary notes

BUAP (WED) 08/26 Polideportivo Ignacio Manual Altamirano [Poblanerias]
1) Mascarita Dorada & Octagoncito (original) vs Mr. Aguilita & Pequeño Halloween
2) Josseline & Martha Villalobos b La Diabólica & Rossy Moreno
3) El Alebrije & Oriental b Monsther & Scorpio Jr.
4) Blue Demon Jr., Juventud Guerrera, Super Porky b Histeria, Mr. Águila, Psicosis
5) el Hijo del Perro Aguayo ?? El Hijo Del Santo

That didn’t take Oriental long. Of course, there are reports that Oriental has said he’s not leaving AAA, but that sure looks like him elsewhere. We’ll see.

IWRG (THU) 08/27 Arena Naucalpan [EdR, Mr. Reyes]
1) Talisman Jr. b Fly Star
2) Miss Gaviota & Star Boy b Carta Brava Jr. & Vampiro Metálico
3) Bushi, Chico Che, Freelance b Avisman, Fantasma de la Ópera, Gringo Loco
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. [EdM Trios]
5) Head Hunter I & Sangre Chicana b Scorpio Jr. & Villano III

This was Scorpio’s 25th anniversary, so everyone gave him a big trophy – and the he got forked in the match. I prefer cake. Scorpio accidentally hit the ref at the end, and Sangre snuck in a foul on V3. Those two challenged hair vs hair and both guys are looking like they have more hair than usual.

Pirata/Cerebros looks good. Champs retained clean, with the Cerebros beating Morgna Jr. and Black Terry pinning captain Hijo del Pirata.

Freelance got hurt in his match, but came back and fought on to the win. He’s looking for a title shot vs Avisman. Speaking of Freelance, Segunda Caida has him as #11 of 2008. I have faith that they’ll finish this countdown by the end of the month.

Anniversary card rundowns: Ovaciones, Notimex, Mistico, and ESTO. Nothing new of any note. Negro & Mistico were respectful towards each during the hype, and they built it as experience vs youth. Tickets prices are set from 50 MXP to 500 (3.77 to 37.77.) That seems down from last year, but they ended up doing a 2×1 deal for some areas when ticket sold slowly. There’s no word where/if this show will be broadcasted, and I suspect that’s TBD based off on how the advance looks. Hope they give at least 48 hours warning this time.

The only other news reported from the press conference is the imminent debut of “Jon Strongman”, a new Guapo recruit of Shocker. I don’t want make pre-judgments, because may he’ll be really great and we’ll all be thrilled, but Ultimo Guerrero brings in Laguna wrestlers who are rare but talented, and Shocker brings in body builders. Might need new music.

LuchaWorld has one two KrisZ’s news updates.

AAA (MON) 09/21 Coliseo Gym, San Mateo Otzacatipan, Mexico
1) Aerostar & Argenis vs May Flowers & Yuriko
2) Cibernético & Súper Fly vs Escoria & Ozz

What a weird great idea for a team.

09/18 Arena Mexico Lineup (76th Anniversary Show)

CMLL (FRI) 09/18 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Hiroka
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Black Warrior, Héctor Garza, Shocker, Último Guerrero vs Jushin Liger, Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
6) Místico vs Negro Casas [mask, hair]

Probably more when I have a chance to think this over, but the quick is

  • Minis and women making it as a surprise. A good one, though who’d ever figure Electrico.
  • Liger matched up with UG? Hmmm. Liger is listed as a tecnico for no good reason.
  • I guess Sombra and Volador don’t know they’re not supposed to like Hectro’s friends.
  • this should be a great show, if given time.

GDL results, Oriental out of AAA, Mistico on Negro, Negro on Mistico

CMLL (TUE) 08/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Ebola & In Memoria b Idolo & Nube Roja
2) Angel del Mal & Rey Trueno b Angelo & Metatron
3) Neutrón & Palacio Negro DQ Mr. Trueno & Satánico
4) Máscara Mágica & Shigeo Okumura b Mictlán & Rogue
5) Blue Panther, Máximo, Místico b Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca

Mistico got Sangre with La Mistica for the win. Mictlan got destroyed by Mascara Magica, beat so bloody that he had to leave the match. Not exatly sure what Satanico did to get the DQ in his match, but it was enough that the tecnicos were demanding a hair match.

(LuchandoLibre) Oriental has left AAA, and is currently an independent. No word if the Yakuza will get a new third memory or if they’ll just be folded back into the Legion.

(Fuego en el Ring) Mistico talked about his IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship. Mistico notes Negro Casas was going to Japan for 20 years and never got a shot at the title, and he went and won it in 6 months. He liked the crowd in Japan, though he still is feeling the jet lag. Negro’s been accusing Mistico of being scared and running to Japan, but Mistico wants it clear that he’s in Mexico now and Negro better not run. Negro might have been his teacher, but the student always surpasses the teacher.

Mistico has big plans for the Super Sky Team, like winning the trios titles. This turns into a digressing complaining Garza copying his dress pants look and Mictlan stealing his colorful outfits – be innovative like Mistico. Anyway, Mistico would like to see the Super Sky Team to increase to six people, maybe adding Valiente, Astro Boy and “Super Cometa” (oops.) Is this third or fourth time Mistico’s talked about forming his own large group?

(Record) Negro Casas invites everyone to his mask match with Mistico, and his subsquent parade as he takes the mask and puts it on the Angel de Independencia monument. I believe Negro Casas is going to win just as much as I believe he’s going to climb to the top of the statue. This article always says September 18 is the anniversary show.

ESTO has a profile on Rain, about working with AAA.

The Gladiatores has video interviews with el Matematico, Sangre Chicana & Sangre Chicana Jr. and wrestler from Pachuca.

Ohtani’s Jacket catches up on August IWRG.

indy (SUN) 08/30 Arena Pachuca [El Sol de Hidalgo]
1) Concorc, Huracan Ramirez, Huracan Ramirez Jr. vs Charro de Jalisco, Negro Navarro, Shu el Guerrero
2) Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Tinieblas Jr., Tinieblas Sr. vs Cien Caras Jr., Máscara Año 2000, Máscara Año 2000 Jr.

Charity show to benefit children suffering from cancer.

CMLL (MON) 08/31 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger & King Jaguar vs Aguila Guerrera & Mr. Rafaga
2) Horus, Leono, Starman vs Bronco, Hooligan, Inquisidor
3) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Metro vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Loco Max
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Shocker vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas [CMLL TRIOS]

I think this is a title match, anyway.

CMLL (TUE) 09/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Idolo & Thunder Boy vs Relampago & Skaxy
2) Divino & Magnum vs Ebola & In Memoria
3) Neutrón & Palacio Negro vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Flash, Mictlán, Stuka Jr. vs Máscara Mágica, Misterioso II, Vangelis
5) Shocker & Toscano vs Terrible & Texano Jr.

Divino appears to be new. Mictlan/Magica continues. Toscano would not be expected to make the main event.
