quick Sunday notes

Just got home, and really don’t have it to do a full update. Here’s the things you need to know:

  • Antonio Pena Memorial show is on 09/26 at Arena Monterrey.
  • Main event will be Mesias vs Wagner for the title
  • Koslov, currently Cruiserweight champ, lost the loser-leaves-town cage match on tonight’s taping. They did do the “first out is #1 contenders” bit that was on the poster but never mentioned by the website (of course, on the show, they pretended like all of this was decided during the show by Roldan), and Extreme Tiger was first out. Dunno what’ll mean, but I would be surprised if he’s going anywhere.
  • I don’t see any “!!!!!!” posts, so I presume Mistico is still IWGP champ. Don’t see any report yet, but we’ll get one tomorrow.
  • Nothing too interesting on the IWRG/etc cards from SuperLuchas. The AJPW guys (Nosawa, Masada, Kai) are in town on the weekend for the IWRG High Power Cup, and they’re going with the likes of V3 and Sangre Chicana elsewise. Didn’t CMLL announce next Sunday was an Arena Mexico show? It’s not. They ought to just skip it this month for both shows to make the anniversary show stick out more.

There’s more. I can’t remember any of it.

About the show at Congress: main event was superb. If you were reading my twitter (sorry!), it turned me around on the whole show. Talked myself into going to this show on the theory that you really need to see Perro Aguayo Jr. live (and up close) to appreciate him, and the theory got proven. The undercard was a waste of my life and I’m still never going back to that cursed building again, except for next week’s Dragon Gate show. When AAA runs Chicago again, and they eventually will, I pray they’re running anywhere else.

More when I’m not so out of it.

  1. Yep, Mistico kept the belt in a match filled with interference. Not sure it’s a must-see match for the NJPW-holics following the title.

Also, Box y Lucha forum is reporting Furia Guerrera died this weekend. That would be Juventud’s cousin and Fuerza’s nephew.

  2. Random TV note for next weekend. Fox Sports has two hours of Lucha Libre listed on Saturday, one at the normal 1:30 slot and one at 9:00 pm. Not sure if this means anything or not since they are both say they are CMLL (on Cablevision guide and TVGuide), but I don’t think they normally replay the show on Saturdays, so it is possible that AAA will be debuting. Also possible that the guides are both wrong and they won’t actually be showing them both.

  3. On the same topic, CMLL listing for Arena Coliseo has now returned to listing it as a taping for 52MX and Fox Sports. Clearly, they have no more idea of what’s going on than we do.

  4. I think CMLL is airing on Fox on Saturday night as filler b/c of all the live soccer and Yankees vs. Red Sox.
