Oficials retain in Naucalpan, notes on tonight’s shows

IWRG (THU) 08/13 Arena Naucalpan [EdR, Mr. Reyes, twitter/the gladiatores]
1) Keshin Black b Imperial
2) Blasfemia & Heavy Boy b Eragon & Star Boy
3) Avisman & Gringo Loco CO Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
4) Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Negro Navarro, Trauma II, Trauma II [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Navarros took the first fall, Oficials took second and third. Piratas won again, and will get a title match in the next two falls. Gemelos celebrated their return by losing the first fall, then somehow getting counted out in the second fall.

Ovaciones hypes Nitro return as the big story of tonight’s Arena Mexico. It’s great that Nitro is back, but that doesn’t say much for the show. Everyone says six matches, so the trio listed on ESTO appears to be correct.

Really, it’s the AAA taping and the Puebla shows which are the two big matches. ESTO previews that first, noting 08/10 was the 17th anniversary of the CMLL minis division.

Estrellas del Ring also has an interview with Konnan Big and indy wrestler Sioux

The Gladiatores has interviews with Martha Villalobos, Tercera Caida announcers, and from the Super X press conference. Their debut show is tomorrow.

Cesar rates last week’s CMLL wrestlers. Sagrado was really the big midcard guy? Worrisome. Also, he’s critical of those were critical of Apolo Dantes but are now working with him.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

This is Hector’s third shot at this title here. Not sure why they’re running six matches + a tournament. Poder Mexica continues to team up here. 1. “4) Máximo, Mictlán, Rouge vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca”

That was last week but cmll.com forgot to remove it. Mictlan is in the semi-main.

  2. WON.com poll…

“Who is the strongest candidate from Mexico on this year’s ballot?
    Konnan 47.6%
    Blue Panther 14,6%
    Dr Wagner Sr. 12.8%
Ultimo Guerrero & Rey Bucanero 12.4%
    Vampiro 6.9%
    Atlantis 3.2%
    Villano III 1.4%
    Karloff Lagarde 1.1% ”

Vampiro, Bucanero and Guerrero (even if just as a team) ahead of Atlantis is pretty fucking wacky.

Konnan is a hard one to call but you can bet he’ll get in with Meltzer putting him over constantly.

Still shocked at how little respect Rey Jr. gets for HOF contention. If there was a ever a no-brainer – he is it.

  3. For a second there I thought AAA.com got a new look and had cool music! Then I realized one of my music videos was playing.:P

  4. DTU is on TVCDeportes from the Expo. There is supposed to be another two hours of lucha after this, so maybe the IWRG show from the expo gets on?

  5. Hmmm, TVCDeportes site lists it as Lucha Libre WWE, so it is probably just a Raw replay on next.

  6. So Alan, you’re home tonight I guess. Don’t forget to try CMLL on TDN at 9:30 your time.

  7. @LLL: Actually I’ve got plans tonight, but I’m going to throw a tape in before I leave to try to catch whatever is on.

  8. @Rob: You have to remember that this poll is on WON’s website. I’d say that .02% of the people responding to the poll actually cast a Hall of Fame vote. That said, those results are still bizarre.

  9. CMLL TDN aired the opening tag. Horus almost died on another blown spot. Tecnicos won.

Lightning Match aired next so this can’t be a live broadcast b/c the Fuerza Aerea match took place in between. Arkangel beat Flash who came up short on a dive but continued the match.

  10. OK, tonight’s Noche de Punos had the same structure as what I saw last week on Saturday, so I’m now suspicious that the segunda probably didn’t air last Friday.

I got home at 10:30 and the opening tag from tonight was on with Bengala and Horus winning a match that really didn’t ever need to make TV. After that they aired the lightning match which I really enjoyed. Arkangel picked up the win.

Tonight’s show as structured like this. Opened with 55 minutes of boxing stuff which seemed to mostly be interviews and highlights/significant clips of mostly older matches. We then got a half an hour of tape delayed lucha from tonight’s Arena Mexico show. The rest of the show was then filled with MMA.

The lucha is nice and its great that these matches are making TV, but I don’t think it is quite what we were all hoping it would be.

  11. @Rob: Tonight’s lucha portion of the show seemed to start a little before 10:30, so about two hours after the opener would have started live.

  12. @Rob: The dive spot was almost a disaster, but handled well by both Flash and Arkangel. Flash ran and jumped face up and twisting (if that makes any sense) over the top rope. He was going to be way short, but stuck his hand out to catch the side of the ring and Arkangel was able to get in close enough to make the catch. Not sure if they clipped anything during the replay, but they were both back in the ring quickly afterward, so presumably he wasn’t shaken up at all.

  13. And in news from Puebla… Mr. Rafaga lost his mask to… we don’t know yet.

    I am a fountain of quasi-information!

  14. @Alan: “with Bengala and Horus winning a match that really didn’t ever need to make TV.”

    hehehehe

Don’t worry… for every shitty performance like this you’ll probably get to see a Puma King/Tiger Kid vs Molotov/Sombra De Plata match that will be off the charts fun.

I’m just happy these matches are making TV somewhere and hopefully someone is saving them to share with everyone soon enough.

  15. @Alan: Hmmm… strangely enough it seems Flash vs Arkangel was the second match of the night. Maybe they changed the order up to make it easier for TV. This is according to Cesar’s live report that is currently going up on his blog. Right away he says it’s a shame these guys got demoted to the second match of the night.

  16. @Rob: I definitely agree on the openers. And if the lightning matches start getting on TV again, that is always a good thing. Hopefully with what aired tonight Cometta/Pegasso vs Tuaregs makes it on tomorrow.

  17. Puebla winner was…

    PIERROTHITO.

I wonder if he’ll bring his Mr. Rafaga trophy mask to Chikara tomorrow?

  18. @Alan: I wonder if the Fuerza Aerea vs Tuereg match gets saved for FSE next week and tomorrow is just the top 3 as usual and then Infierno en el Ring afterwards (if the 3 hour listing proves to be correct). Either way… it’s either Fuerza Aerea opening the show or a team of Valiente/Stuka/Mascara Dorada. How can you really go wrong?

  19. And according to the early Puebla results – Tzuki no-showed the cage.:( I’m guessing this means he also no-showed on Monday.

  20. @Rob: The Cablevision guide is listing tomorrow’s show at almost three hours too, so maybe it will actually happen.

I had thought that maybe they were saving the Fuerza Aera vs Tuareg match for FSE too, but isn’t the current theory that there is no more CMLL on FSE after this weekend?

  21. What if Fox decides to run both AAA and CMLL? Fox would be foolish to trust AAA for weekly content.

  22. @Alan: I have no clue what’s up with FSE. They could still be running both. CMLL.com says Sunday is being taped for FSE and 52MX so they still think the cameras will be coming.:/

Cesar’s description of the matches from tonight leads me to believe Dorada/Stuka/Valiente are making TV b/c it sounds short and to the point with lots of spots which is exactly what the opening match on TV is usually like.

  23. @LLL: Fox would be foolish to tape CMLL and not airing it unless AAA fails to provide the content. When has AAA failed to provide Televisa from content?

  24. @xuisaw: Their 52mx deal failed. The AztecaAmerica thing failed. The Friday late night thing when Duro Y Directo was canceled. They’ve been talking about a secondary show forever.

They have their plate full with weekly Telerisa tapings. Be interesting to see where they are in a few months with this.

Did you see the article in Milenio about AAA?
