I may be busy this morning. Well, if you reading this, I am. I’ll be around later, filling in whatever’s missing.
CMLL (FRI) 07/24 Arena Mexico [Cesar, Ovaciones]
1) Astro Boy & Sensei b Artillero & Super Comando
2) Euforia, Loco Max, Skandalo b Angel de Oro, Horus, Starman
3) Dragon Rojo Jr. b Mascara Dorada [lightning]
4) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano b Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro
5) La Mascara, Mistico, Volador Jr. DQ Atlantis, Negro Casas, Ultimo Guerrero
6) Texano Jr. b Shocker [NWA LH]
Texano won clean.
Mistico had UG in La Mistica, and Negro pulled his mask again.
Toscano accidently pescadoed Garza in the third fall, and they argued about it post match. Panther had Mendoza in the fujiwara, but his parnters made the save.
Dragon Rojo reversed a ‘rana and had the ropes.
Horus & Starman replaced Angel Azteca Jr. & Tigre Blanco.

Not sure when you read Cesar’s report but if you caught it last night he basically made the point for you of why CMLL has way too many pointless titles. His report last night had many references about Texano *winning* the NWA LHW Title and how it was such an upset that he dethroned Shocker.
Now if the most hardcore of hardcore CMLL fans can’t remember who one of the major champs is…
Oh that’s interesting… he also edited in the new part this morning about CMLL only expecting 12,000 next week. That’s a nice cheap way to lower expectations incase they manage to draw a little more and he can claim they did great.
Let’s ask ourselves something…
Is 12,000 an acceptable attendance for a promotion that…:
1. Has a talent roster the size of CMLL’s?
2. Hasn’t run a major show since March?
3. Is allowing kids into the show during vacation season for pretty much nothing?
4. Has MONTHS to build up any important match they wanted?
The truth is CMLL has no excuse to not sell out next week or at least draw 16,000. If they don’t it’ll only be their own fault, not the economy, not the weather and not the state of Lucha Libre.
Verano De Escandalo lineup for August 21 seems to be out…

A little confusing since there is no Teddy/Chessman vs Jack/Charly match as originally advertised. Also, no clue why Ultimo Gladiador is where he is. Also, no idea how Ciber got tossed into the main event or why the tag titles aren’t listed as being defended.
Normally I’d say it’s a bogus lineup but it’s from a legit newspaper.
I also saw the thing about Texano “winning” the championship… it also tells us how the “only Mexico City counts” mentality is still big over there. That’s the reason for articles as “guys who left have no work”, when in fact, it is CMLL the one who is having much less work, to the point where they’ve been running cards full of their guys, ie, in MTY where Stuka and Mascara Dorada were in la Segunda with the Minis in the opening match. In the good days, Stuka would have been in the semi or even main eventing -Stuka Jr with ‘tico in ACM- as promoters were asking for all the stars and CMLL had trouble filling the top spots for so many shows.
But these days, CMLL have to load them all into a single show while the indies run a bunch of shows no one hears about (but they end being paid more than in AAA or CMLL).
The Verano card looks too random, I wonder if they were just someone making a scratch list of it and then it got sent to the newspaper. How do you do a 3 man championship cage match? First one escapes and keeps the belt… I mean… gets the belt… and the other 2 what? It would make sense if the remaining 2 get into a stip match but, seems weird. Gronda and Elegido in a chairs/table match? Shouldn’t that be for the match with Xtreme Tiger?
WTF?
Gronda in a chairs/table match….That could end tragically. It could result in another Gronda going through the similar path that the original has gone through (multiple injuries, strokes, illnesses, etc.).
Its funny how the 7/24 card actually looked better than the current lineup for the Infierno En El Ring show for the upcoming Friday and it isn’t even that impressive either.
BTW, CMLL is 1 hour later again today.
The card for Verano looks some-what legit , although I don’t understand why AAA would have two cage matches on one show ? Texano Jr. retained last night, so there’s the possibility that he might lose his hair next friday. But I think either Yujiro or Naito will end up bald.
This week the MEN are diving. I guess they are trying to gain CMLL’s audience that tunes in to see Mictlan.
The CMLL webmaster isn’t updating the cards today b/c he’s too busy watching the AAA + DTU shows at the ExpoLucha.
CMLL finally starting w/…
Top 3.
Strange.
Puebla tomorrow:
Guerrero vs Garza – Heavyweight Title
Shocker/Panther/Toscano vs Niebla/Negro/Felino
Arena Mex Tuesday for C3:
Shocker/Sombra/Volador vs Niebla/Felino/Metal
La Mascara/Valiente/Mascara Dorada vs Lizmark Jr./Sangre Azteca/Dragon Rojo Jr.
Marcela vs Amapola for some title
LM F’N AO
CMLL’s promo package for next Friday:
“HECTOR GARZA, TOSCANO, BLUE PANTHER, SHOCKER, TERRIBLE, TEXANO, RAY MENDOZA JR., BLACK WARRIOR Y 7 CABALLERAS MAS!”
WHAT AN IMPORTANT MATCH!!!
Good news – Yujiro was awake for the promo Okumura just cut for him!
Bad news – The crowd is sleeping through this match with 6 guys heading towards a hair match.
Announcers ignored the Garza/Toscano post-match problems.
No wonder CMLL isn’t drawing… every crowd shot shows women and children uninterested in the action. Imagine a wrestling promotion marketing towards WOMEN with Garza, Toscano and Mictlan’s stripping act. No wonder crowds are dwindling.
Maybe the can call it off? Just like Super Lucas is saying about that mma guys who canceled a show…
My guess is that they’re not saving anything since next week will air normally… or maybe just the 3 in the undercard?
Well let’s look at the guys in the cage…
Toscano could no-show…
Black Warrior could no-show…
Garza is injury prone and has matches all week leading up to the cage…
Shocker could dissapear from existence again…
Heavy Metal may have to work an emergency shift at his failing t-shirt store on Friday…
Mendoza Jr. might eat himself into a coma before the match…
Yujiro may wind up getting beat up by an angry Mexican husband after he accidentally sleeps with his wife during his search for a Mexican bride…
Mictlan may suffer severe internal injuries after some sort of “attack” by Feliciano…
So who knows… match may just end up being 6 guys anyways.
Did Shocker came out wearing the belt? Maybe even they don’t remember who the champ is!!
It would be interesting to know what FSE is airing now… will CMLL keep producing shows til the end or will they let FSE without any more shows?
CMLL on LATV is done for Sat. at 4 pm. I have no idea if its on at a later time. Maybe cubs or someone else knows.
AAA is really killing the meaning of a cage match by using it on every event
Estrellita/Mini Charly vs. Hechicera/Mascarita Muerte right now on ACM.
Fox Sports Mexico opens with Inquisidor, Polvora, and Bronco vs. Tigre Blanco, Metalico, and Horus. I hope this means they are saving stuff for next week. Not sure if I am actually going to watch the match, but I will say right now that they highlight is Inquisidor coming to the ring with a battle axe.
Oh shit, glad I looked up after the opener on Fox Sports. Dorada/Warrior lightning match is airing before the main.
Fun match, given about 8 minutes including intros and replays.
Main is Toscano, Garza, and Mistico vs Atlantis, Niebla, and Negro Casas.
Notes from Expo Day 2. Today’s pics and autographs for me were from Porky, Sangre Azteca, Alebrije and Cuije, Los Traumas, Negro Navarro, and Angelico. Angelico was super nice and took some time to talk to me. He was hanging out by the entrance of the main ring area watching the Indy show at the end of the night. As I was leaving (as the Wagner main event was getting ready to start), he was taking off with Navarro.
Highlight of the day was the CMLL show. Will post results below, but my friend that I was attending with has been training for lucha libre with Hectar Garza, so he got us front row with Garza’s son and a friend. Awesome seats and a great experience. Best purchase of the day was the lucha inspired chess set that Cubs had linked to an article about a while back. Pretty sure its one of a kind for the time being, but the artist seemed to say that now that I had bought this one he might make some more.
Here are the results from what I saw today. Not 100% sure on some of these.
CMLL
Skandalo and Arkangel over Fabian and Leono. Great to see the Tauregs. Not so great to see the other team.
Dark Angel and Marcela over Sugei and Amapola. Not a bad match.
Okumura, Dragon Rojo, and Virus over Maximo, Sombra and Valiente.
Panther, Volador, and Fantasma over Niebla, Felino, and Negro Casas. Amusing match with Felino searching through the bag at my feet at one point in the match.
Mistico, Garza, and Shocker over Atlantis, Guerrero, and Terrible. Pretty good match. Rey Buccanero was in attendance on crutches. After everyone else had gone to the back after the match, Garza wandered around the ring taking pictures with kids for quite a while.
Guerra de Independientes
Missed the minis, skipped the women and was disappointed to come in during the Tercera and discover that Batman and Robin weren’t there. Missed the intros, so I’m not sure who all was in the match, but it was a basic trios match with a heal turn at the end by the guy in the US flag tights.
Only match I saw was Juventud and Zumbido over Scorpio Jr. and Histeria (in for the advertised Fuerza). Zumbido go Scorpio with a rollup to end it.
Skipped out on the main event of Wagner, Olimpico and Intocable vs Mascaro Ano 2000 Jr, Mascara Ano 2000, and Universo 2000.
Pictures from Day 2. Much easier to take pictues when you sitting closer.

One attendance note. Way more people at the expo today in general. CMLL’s show was packed. I was somewhat surprised that Wagner’s show had a drop off down to probably 75% full in the ring area. Maybe everyone is waiting to see him at the AAA taping tomorrow?
tvguide.com shows a marathon of Lucha on 8/8 on Fox Sports in Mexico.
@Alfredo: You mean it did not air? I was traveling all weekend, and missed everything. I just turned on LATV and they are running promos saying CMLL airs Fri and Sat at 7e/4pst.
@LLL: Did not air either in the regular slot or the overnight one. There’s no change on LATV’s website to explain it.
@thecubsfan: Thanks. What do you think that listing on Fox Sports is about(The marathon on 8/08)?
Something else about Televisa Deportes Network (dunno where the thread is now =p)
It seems they won’t be selling their sports programming to third parties anymore, TVC aired soccer league games, but not anymore, which, means TVC has more time to fill in, which opens the door for more lucha. And, on the other, Televisa might want more lucha if to fill up their programming in the new network. I wonder if they might pull out AAA from Gala…
@xuisaw: I can’t see Televisa pulling AAA from Galavision. That would be insane. AAA would only be available to SKY subs, so they’d lose millions of viewers. It would kill all the projects AAA has in the plans, some of which are partnered with Televisa(video games, movie).
Sorry, I meant Gala US.
It is supposed to be in the plans that TDNetwork will be included in all cable sistems in the American continent to go head to head with Fox Sports en Español and ESPN Latin America. Since Gala US is not over the air, it would make sense for Televisa to air AAA in their own cable channel just like they’re doing with TVC.
http://www.televisanetworks.tv/perfil.asp?idc=24
Televisa lists WWE in their network description, but that’s it. The grid shows no Lucha, just UFC.
I checked wagnermania and luchalibremexicana for uploads of CMLL’s weekly Televisa show. I guess no one wants to see it. If anyone knows where I can find it, let me know.
Nope, they don’t mention WWE at all, they are talking about WWF =p
And the grid does not have it either.
Save for the Grand Prix, this new network looks awful, should be called Soccer TV.
I never said the grid shows WWE or WWF. I said the description mentions it in the “perfil”, along with UFC. I’m pretty sure the “lucha libre norteamericana (WWF)” that they refer to is the WWE instead.
@LLL: You were pretty sure that there would be riots after Obama lost the elections…
@xuisaw: Had Obama lost, yes, there would’ve been riots. Same people who rioted in LA after the Lakers won, would’ve been doing the same thing on a national level.
On the bright side, we have a President who is now acting as a mediator between a cop and a civil rights professor. So much for trying to fix the economy. Obama is truly a community organizer.
@LLL: I don’t know about this Obama guy but this Siki Osama guy is pretty awesome!
@Rob: Siki Osama? Let’s see his birth certificate!
Just to clear it up – Angel Azteca Jr. worked Arena Mexico on Friday. He teamed with Horus and Starman so the no-shows were Tigre Blanco and Angel De Oro.
