Infierno en el Ring press conference

so things got crazier than I wanted. I wrote this a few hours ago, I’ll see about more later.

Yesterday was one of CMLL’s periodic Thursday news conferences to hype an upcoming events. Usually, we get a couple different things set up on it, but it was mostly on the Infierno en el Ring cage match for 07/31. Nine wrestlers were named…

Win/Loss Record in (known) hair matches
– Negro Casas: 16-5 (including losing the 2004 version of this cage match)
– Toscano: 16-2
– Shocker: 14-0
– Hector Garza: 12-3
– Texano Jr.: 4-0 (and won this cage match last year)
– Terrible: 3-0
– Naito: 0-0
– Yujiro: 0-0
– Black Warrior: 0-1

Blue Panther (1-0) and Okumura (0-2, including losing a 2006 cage match) are mentioned as possible 10th men, though it’s no certainty that there will be 10. Okumura has been pretty much excluded from working with No Limit, so it’s unlikely he’s in this one.

Still think No Limit are the obvious losers here and Garza came to mind as a winner but it’s no sure thing. Given the last couple cage matches, this will mean Naito and Yujiro are out first.

Naito was out first at the press conference, falling asleep during it. That’s not a good sign. As they had everyone go around and say who they’d like to beat, Yujiro said he’d like to spar with the valets.

Texano Jr. hopes to win to make up for the recent bad run of the Hijo del Avernos. Terrible and Texano still want a tag title shot. There’s a mention that Texano will have to wait a year to get a shot against UG, so I guess that was just a pointless tournament. Well, I know it was pointless, but it’s a annual tournament and not a championship.

Other announcements from the press conference
– Ultimo Guerrero vs Hector Garza on Monday in Puebla was announced as a non-title singles match.

– discounted bleacher tickets for children during the summer holidays

– Oro II and Plata are mentioned as appearing. I think it’s just for a special show and not regular. Though, just like on the Lucha Libre Expo show, I don’t know who’s actually working as Plata, since Oro II was Plata (and later, Mascara Dorada used the name.)

CMLL is working with community groups to speak out about crime, including promoting a phone number for anonymous tips.
Joke 1: This is sure a different way to wage war with AAA.
Joke 2: so the Oficials are coming in as tecnicos?

– CMLL wrestlers will participate in a motorcycle rally

Black Warrior specifically challenged Panther to be part of the match, wanting all his rivals in the match. I guess Warrior has given up the grudge against Mistico! Warrior means Shocker and Toscano, because Warrior blames Toscano for causing him to lose his only hair match to Shocker. (Toscano went MIA before he was supposed to team with Toscano, and rudo Warrior ended up teaming and losing with tecnico Rey Bucanero. No, it didn’t really make sense. Yes, I had to go look back at notes to remember what happened here.) Black Warrior talks about wanting to team with Poder Mexica more; meanwhile, Cesar says Black Warrior has been changing his bookings to work with Poder Mexica less.

Cronica asked some of the CMLL wrestlers at the press conference about changes they’ve made since the deaths of La Parkita & Espectrito. Mostly, it’s “don’t be stupid”. There is the obligatory mention of how those guys didn’t work there so it couldn’t reflect at all on their behavior. Negro Casas advises to make sure nothing’s added to your drink, and Hector Garza says each person has the right to have fun in a safe manner. Shocker mentions CMLL’s mysterious drug policy, which is never ever elaborated on, but I’m assuming it’s along the lines of “everyone has the right to have fun in a safe manner, as long as they don’t fall asleep at press conferences.”
