Dos Caras Jr. to the WWE

Six months into a “four year contract signed with CMLL” (as he personally told Tercera Caida earlier this year; see also Dos tells Box Y Lucha he’s staying in CMLL), Dos Caras Jr. is leaving the promotion and headed to CMLL. SuperLuchas has the scoop, and will have more in this week’s magazine. What we know right now:

– WWE has not confirmed this on their site
– 3 year contract, standard for WWE (and these are more ‘WWE has YOU for 3 years’ rather than a two way thing)
– Dos will NOT go to FCW, instead will go straight to the main roster (debut date TBA, but could be any time or show – expecting to hear more info next week)
– Dos Caras Jr. retains the right to his mask, and his name, though WWE gets rights to license it while in WWE.
– $$$$$

Dos’ last match in CMLL was this past Friday, the DQ loss to Shocker. (This means the story about plane troubles keeping him from GDL on Sunday was invented – though it could be Dos or the promotion doing it.) All announced future matches for him are replacements TBA.

This is probably the smart move for Dos. Back when this story first started up (and I think it’s been going for a full year now?), the big worry was Dos would be lost in the WWE shuffle and his career arc would be diminished. Right now in CMLL, Dos is lost in the shuffle and his career arc is diminished by this rudo turn that’s been going nowhere. Can’t lose by trying something else.

CMLL’s plans are going to have to change. Dos/Shocker, as unappealing as it had been, was clearly being set up as a back up anniversary main event in case Mistico got hurt at the wrong time. As much as that probably wouldn’t have worked, it’d been better than throwing something together at the last second. They’ve still got months to figure this out, at least, but

Things can change as quick as Friday – with a hole on the rudo side, maybe now’s the time to elevate Texano?

Tuesday Mexico results, notes

CMLL (TUE) 06/16 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & Principe Valiente b Camorra & Cholo
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo de Ultraman, Metalico b Bronco, Loco Max, Polvora
3) Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Stuka Jr. DQ Dr. X, Euforia, Nosferatu
4) Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Virus b Metro, Mictlan, Valiente
5) Naito, Ultimo Guerrero, Yujiro b Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano

Rudos won the main event in straight falls. Flash replaced Leono, and Loco Max replaced Hooligan. No idea what that DQ was for. Bad crowd, which ESTO attributes to the rain. I’m thinking it’s more likely that everyone realized this was a less than interesting lineup in the middle of many more interesting cards at cheaper prices.

Ovaciones has nothing on last night’s CMLL show, previewing the AAA show tonight instead.

In a video interview, Mesias declares his innocence against the chargers from earlier this week.

AAA wonder if Xtreme Tiger will return to Mexican Powers, talks about Wagner needed eight stitches after his title win, the Mesias/Wagner rematch in Orizaba and exoticos on today’s taping.

Dr. Wagner Jr. is head to Spain for a show on July 12. SuperLuchas also has a long interview with Ricky Cruzz, though their site doesn’t appear to working.

Super Calo’s FS-WWL promotion – which has not announced a show and maintains that position – gets a lot of press for no particular reason. This article mentions young stars like Valiente Jr. and five different weight division titles!. There comes a point where mention a group only to make fun of it’s silliness loses it’s fun. (And I think EAW’s already reached it.)

Cesar sees the winner of the Universal tournament determining how the title is going to be used – if it’s UG, it’ll probably just be another trophy for his case – a replacement for no Gran Prix this year – but if it’s Texano, plenty of people will still think they can beat him and take the title. Not sure I agree.

Cotorreando con Box y Lucha talks to Olímpico.

Lucha Libre: the Man in the Silver Mask won the Tejas Star Book Award, voted on by Texas schoolchildren.

LuchaWorld has a podcast tomorrow at 8pm PST.

CMLL (FRI) 06/19 Arena Puebla [hugo999 @ box y lucha]
1) Mr. Rafaga & Toro Bill Sr. vs Iron & Tigre Rojo
2) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Apocalipsis & Zayco
3) Estrella Magica, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Amapola, Crazy Star, Princesa Blanca
4) Valiente vs Mascara Dorada, Angel de Oro, Angel Azteca Jr., Stuka Jr., Virus, Loco Max, Vangelis, Tiger Kid, Puma King [ciber]
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Sombra, Shocker vs Atlantis, Naito, Yujiro

Fan appreciation show, of course.

Acapulco results, Wagner signed, Tuesday Mexico notes

CMLL (WED) 06/10 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [Luchas 2000]
3) Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Hijo del Cien Caras, Pierroth II, Ricky Cruzz vs Acuarios, Black Thunder, Ludwig Star, Marco Rivera
4) Veneno, Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V DQ Atlantis, Euforia, Mascara Dorada, Nosferatu [Copa Pierroth]

Main event barely resembles the announced 4 trio tournament. Villano V fouled Atlantis for the DQ, but the Villanos and Veneno ran off with the trophy anyway.

Much of Luchas 2000 #474 seems hype for the July 4th show.

Joaquin Roldan says Dr. Wagner Jr. has signed an exclusive agreement to AAA for a year, which they can renew each year. Wagner will still work his previously agreed on indepedent dates but then that’s it. Roldan’s made statements close to this previously, but this seems firm. I’m doubtful Wagner will ever actually confirm this; it doesn’t actually help him. I do wonder if Wagner just took a whole bunch of indy dates before signing the contract. FWIW, Wagner explains the crowd cheered for him because he’s the Mexican, duh.

ESTO has a preview of today’s Arena Mexico show, noting Shocker’s win streak of late in Mexico City:

2009-06-05: Hector Garza, Shocker, Volador Jr. DQ Dos Caras Jr., Naito, Yujiro
2009-06-09: Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano b Naito, Ultimo Guerrero, Yujiro
2009-06-12: Shocker DQ Dos Caras Jr.

70s and 80s wrestler Cesar Valentino passed away Monday. He was 68. Beside his own career, he’s notable for training minis.

Luchando Libre points out a benefit of Tuesday Arena Mexico show – no scalpers to deal with. Ovaciones has it’s own preview, and a preview of AAA’s card on Wednesday. By total coincidence, it looks AAA’s paying to have it’s lineup shown on that page.

Toscano wants to wins masks and championships, but feels stifled from that because he’s teaming with Mistico. So he wants Mistico’s Mexican national welterweight championship, which Toscano talks about holding for many a year. Of course, Mistico is national light heavyweight champion, the title Toscano actually held the NWA World Light Heavyweight title, and Sangre Azteca is the Mexican welterweight champion (and would actually be someone Toscano would make sense feuding with.) What I read this article actually to mean is Toscano really would rather be a rudo and no one know who has what belt.

Fuego en el Ring has an interview with Mr. Trueno on his middleweight reign. Maybe Toscano can challenge for this one.

DJ Spectro rates TripleMania match by match.

An article about Friday’s Rey Misterio Sr. benefit show in Tijuana says Misterio Sr. is recovering well, but still needs funds to cover his medical expenses.

El Tiempo has a multimedia article on the history of wrestling in Bogota, Colombia.

Segunda Caida watches IWRG 06/04/09.

LuchaWorld has Robert on C3 03/08/08, AAA 03/09/08, and KrisZ‘s news update.

Ras de Lona has a quite pregnant India Sioux, and plenty of people talking about how they would match up with Texano.

Mesias, Billy, Hijo de Tirantes arrested for beating a man

while either drunk, or drunk and high on coacine. Take your pick from this story (translated)

The member of the club led to the hotel Sntenario of the eighth section, located on Homer Avenue.

Staff decided to display the fight to make the call to the municipal police, who immediately came and logaron stop trifulca.
Fighters and the injured were transferred to the command of the northern zone of the Dspm.
Those arrested were identified as Billy Boy, The Messiah and the Son of Braces; those who agree with the police respond to report the names of Jose Roberto Islas Garcia, 33 years; Cosme Gilberto Ramirez, 37, and Landa Fernando Batista 32.
The injured was identified as Fernando Cordova for 31 years of age, which is upset because the wrestlers were consuming drugs in his car.

I am shocked…to find out Mesias and Billy drink together. That explains why Billy Boy looks like he’s wearing Mesias hand me downs. Also, the big lesson learned from Abismo’s death is to use the buddy system.

Also, poor Cibernetico, who’s picture is somehow on that page.

I’m sure Billy and Mesias and Hijo de Tirantes have their side of the story and I am excited to hear it!

(Thanks to Rob for pointing this out. Thanks to Rob for pointing this out. Looks like DJ Spectro had it too.)

Bonus: here’s how the victim ended up. Let the man have his car to himself next time!

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#893)
Mexico: 06/21 – four day turnaround is as short as they’ve done it in years
US:  07/11

First TV match for/since
– Atomic Boy/8.5 months
– Yuriko/11.5 months
– Pasion Kristal/14 months

Did they have another show already scheduled and belatedly realized TripleMania was going to PPV only? The website doesn’t list anything for 6/17 besides this taping. Maybe lots of people were just getting the day off, or traveling.

Anyway, the Night Queens reunion includes Pasion Kristal (who was a tecnico teaming with Pimpi and Cassandro in his one previous appearance) and not Nygma (Bizzaros) and Jesse (ever notice Emo Extreme looks a lot like him?) Atomic Boy works as a regular sized wrestler, though I think it’s possible it may just be a one shot to fill out the numbers, since much of the rest seems the same.

Extreme Tiger is apparently a tecnico, they just forgot to actually do a turn (or I just haven’t seen it yet – maybe it was on the May 25th show? He’s been booked as a tecnico since.)

Of the actual matches, there a few noteworthy things. Three way tag match may be setting up a mixed tag title match, or it could be something else with Fabi and Sexi. It looks like the Cruiserweight title and the Tag titles will all be in one feud, just to make them both as uninteresting and useless as possible. And the singles feuds going into TripleMania will follow out of TripleMania, with little resolution until Verano. Hooray.

4) Ephesto, Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr.Blue Panther, Mictlan, Sagrado
5) Hector Garza, Mistico, ToscanoAverno, Mephisto, Texano Jr.

Mistico & Averno were left alone in the ring to finish. This is part of Mistico’s fifth anniversary celebration. Cesar said 8,000 people for this show last night, but I’ve also read lesser amounts.

CMLL (SUN) 06/14 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, MT]
1) In Memoria b Caballero
2) Meteoro & Thunder Boy b Milenio & Relampago Azul
3) Acertijo, Azazel, Infierno b Metal Blanco, Saturno, Virgo
4) Mr. Trueno b Neutron [OCCIDENTE MIDDLE]
5) La Mascara, La Sombra, Metatron b Infierno, Rafaga, Shigeo Okumura
6) Maximo & Shocker b Naito & Yujiro

Dos’ plane flight was late for the planned Shocker/Dos main event, so they shuffled Maximo & No Limit up to the main event and sent everyone home happy with the tecnico win. Mr. Trueno retains his title. Caballero is new.

Mascarita Dorada and Pierrothito will be wrestling for CHIKARA on August 15 in Easton, PA, as a special attraction on Night 2 of their Young Lion’s Cup.

In celebration of Arena Coliseo Guadalajara turning 50, a group of filmmakers have produced 50, de leyendas, with luchadors talking about the history of the arena. It sounds pretty good. They’re premiering the movie this Friday, and then will take it to film festivals.

Politics! Local PRI candidate somehow refs finish of match, vows to unmask corruption and unemployment. Local PAN candidate to attend lucha libre show with Mistico.

Box Y Luchas #2926 has TripleMania coverage – Wagner and Tiger winning their belts, Santo winning it for AAA. They’ve got lots of photos from the show on their website.

AAA tapes in 2 days, and I haven’t seen a lineup. Might be up later today. It’s up. It’s been up. I’ll get to in a sec.
