1) Astro Boy & Molotov vs Artillero & Zayco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pierrothito [lightning]
4) Maximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro
6) La Sombra, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Preview: Bobby Bonales, notimex

A down show in terms of news as compared to the last three weeks. Main event should still be about Negro/Mistico. Thought maybe they were setting up a tag team match, but they’re already doing that in Puebla on Monday (and hopefully they push that a bit here.)
They’re honoring Bobby Bonales on the show. He passed away 15 years ago today.

Dark Angel is apparently 3 weeks from debuting in TNA.

An article titled “The Dark Underworld of Wrestling” sounds pretty interesting, but probably will disappoint regular readers for a while, as it just repeats the recent stories about Billy, Hijo de Tirantes, Mesias, and Abismo Negro (and not even in great detail there.) It gets better later on, as Hijo del Santo sticks up for Mistico while feeling sorrow for him, as he sees Mistico getting more and more beat up and will eventually be left broken with little money to keep from it. Santo confirms what’s been talked about before – CMLL (and presumably AAA) keep all revenue from TV, telling the wrestlers that just getting to be on TV is payment enough.

There’s also a good section about required health commissions; Mexico City requires bloody testing and a heart exam, serious stuff. Unfortunately, since all commissions must accept licensing from all other commissions, everyone who thinks they might be blocked from getting one goes to a state where the commission is either corrupt or inept, and there are more bad ones than good ones. Santo singles out Tijuana, Morelos and Chihuahua as good commissions, and Reynosa, Matamoros, and Leon as bad ones. Lots of talk about people using steroids, no one actually mentioning names.

Quick notes from the latest WON
– AAA is planning on bringing Gronda 1 in to feud with Gronda 2.
– Billy & Hijo de Tirantes got two weeks suspensions (so the bits on the TV tapings that looked like them being written off were just that.) They’ve decided Mesias is innocent so he won’t be suspended. Unsurprising. AAA has an article on Mesias doing work with Make A Wish.

Cesar is back to rating CMLL wrestlers: Rayo Tapatios, Starman, Stuka Jr., Hooligan, and Dark Angel.

Colorado Daily has story on a Denver lucha libre promtoion, running a show tommorrow. Although that’s not really mentioned in the article, this show has Santo, Super Porky, Solitario and Pirata Morgan.

LuchaWorld has footage of Jorge Mendoza, silver haired Guatemala luchador

CMLL (MON) 06/29 Arena Puebla
1) Fuerza Chicana, Policeman, Siki Osama vs Black Tiger, Blue Center, Centella de Oro
2) Artillero, Polvora, Super Comando vs Hijo de Ultraman, Metalico, Starman
3) Mascara Dorada, Maximo, Mictlan vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Mistico vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Terrible
5) La Sombra & Volador Jr. vs Felino & Negro Casas [CMLL TAG]

Second match is listed as Trios Femeniles. I had no idea!

411mania’s Q&A has someone saying Dos and UG were CMLL’s #1 and #2 draws. No. Very much no.

06/21 Arena Naucalapan Results

Forgot this part. Need to do smaller posts anyway…

IWRG (SUN) 06/21 Arena Naucalpan [Gladiatores]
1) RadamantisSangre Latina
2) Exodia & GalactikComando Gama & Comando Negro
3) Chico Che, Goleador, Rigo DQ Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Judas el Traidor
4) Freelance, Suicida, TurboAvisman, Black Thunder, Tetsuya Bushi
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Tinieblas Jr.Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Ricky Cruzz, Veneno

Tineblas pinned Ricky Cruzz in the main, I don’t know why. You would’ve think they would’ve saved that for someone who’s going to be around more than Tinieblas.

New greatest line: “the semifinal may well have been a feast for the famous ficional character created by Bram Stocker: Draclua”. Doens’t actually look exceptionally bloody, though Freelance tried to bleed enough for everyone. Turbo and Freelance continue to not get along, but Suicida still ended up beating Bushi for the win. They still seemed to be setting up a direct hair mask or a title match here, instead of the six way cage match they’re going to end up doing.

Title match in Puebla, new (doomed) promotion, Box y Lucha

I don’t like the odds of my Puebla guess being right this week; ESTO says Volador & Sombra defend the tag titles versus Negro Casas & Felino.

Fuerza, Juvi, and Juan Israel Gonzalez announced the formation of the Super X GPCW. Pick your choice of stories: ESTO, Luchando Libre, SuperLuchas.

Gonzalez is clearly the man putting up the money, and so this will go as long as he’s willing to keep giving it away. They plan on using the same wrestlers who are all of the other mid-range groups (Perros, IWRG, EAW); you know, all the promotions that aren’t already drawing. Plus, they plan in wasting more money bringing in people from the US – Chris Masters, Rob Van Dam, Rikishi, and Mr. Kennedy – for a Mexico vs the US show. All those besides Kennedy are NWE regulars, so I guess we’ve learned Kennedy is going to Europe. In a interview with the Gladiatores, Juvi also mentions Austin Aries and Sabu. There’s also a mention of a women’s division called Chicas Super X modeled after the WWE, the same concept women wrestlers in Mexico have derided for many years. Hooray! Being a new promotion in Mexico, they did not mention the date or location of any show they plan to run. Do these groups make money on press conferences? Do they think they make money on press confrences? Just to make it a full convention of people with bad ideas, el Fantasma showed up as well.

Box Y Lucha articles
Dos Caras Jr. is heading to WWE. Not sure if you heard.
Grond XXX apparently had not, because he’s challenging for a mask/mask match based on Dos wearing red body paint. The original Gronda talks about going to AAA or CMLL. There was talk about him going to AAA to feud with the second Gronda in a mask match, but was canceled when the first got sick. They haven’t used the second on TV since, so I don’t know if they still care. Speaking of Original Gronda’s illness, he’s claiming a miraculous recovery thanks to prayer and credits his own skills as a nutritionalist to get him back in top condition. He’s 2-3 months from returning to the ring.
Ultimo Guerrero is happy with winning the universal tournament and is going ot adopt light blue as his big match color, since it’s worked out well this year (this match, and the victory over Villano V.)
– interview with Diosa de Oro, a trainee of Vicky Carranza & Cinthia Moreno.
Mascara Dorada, Angel de Oro, Horus and Metro visted a children’s rehabilitation center
Villano III tells stories abotu Cesar Valentino

Cesar makes the case that, with the departures, CMLL pretty much has the exact same roster it had 3-4 years ago.

The Gladiatores also have interviews with new champ of Trauma II, retired wrestler Dick Angelo and Rain & Dyanamite Girl of EAW. Plus, lots of photos of the Rey Misterio Sr. benefit show.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update

CMLL (TUE) 06/30 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Meteoro vs Milenio
2) Thunder Boy vs Skaxy
3) Nube Roja vs Ebola
4) Saturno vs Drago
5) Leon Blanco vs Infierno
6) Gallo, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Dr. X, Mascara Magica, Vangelis
7) Shocker & Toscano vs Felino & Mr. Niebla

Skaxy seems to change sides once a month. That is the most interesting part of this card.

working AAA: the Video game roster

TodoLuchas did the hard work and figured out who we’re sure is in the AAA game, based on their appearance in the trailer:
– La Parka Jr.
– Electroshock
– Konnan
– Mesias
– Cibernetico
– Octagon
– Psycho Clown
– Elegido
– Charly Manson
– Abismo Negro
– Gronda
– Ozz
– Chessman
– Super Fly
– Psicosis (II)
– Cuervo
– Zorro
– Vampiro

That’s 18. As for everyone else…

People who surely are in, because their partners are in
– Zombie Clown
– Killer Clown
– Scoria (though I don’t know feel as strongly about Espiritu)
– Histeria
– Black Abyss
– Laredo Kid
– Aerostar

People we can’t confirm, but would expect
– Latin Lover (unless he has some weird media rights issue)
– Kenzo Suzuki
– Silver King
– Jack Evans
– Teddy Hart
– Alan Stone (maybe)
– Crazy Boy
– Espiritu (maybe)
– Extreme Tiger
– Joe Lider
– Nicho
– Pimpinela

People who are possibly too minor to be in
– Decnnis
– Gran Apache
– Chris Stone
– El Brazo
– Escorpion Negro
– Mascara Divina
– Oriental (why he’s here and Crazy Boy is up there, I don’t know)
– Pasion Kristal

– any ref besides Tirantes

I’ll update this post if news turns up later.

06/27-28 Lucha Times

Chart.

This is a bit late. Got the VEO index going, at any rate.

AAA-US: Legion vs Alex/Wagner/Parka, plus Jack starting on the tecnico side.

52MX: Tuareg vs Flash/Pegasso/Cometa, plus Niebla/Terrible/Texano vs Shocker/Tsocano/Panther

LATV: just when I start figuring out the rerun pattern, they change it. Last week’s episode was from 02/22/08 (#81), so I’m guessing they’ll just show the next one. Behold the mysterious Grey Shadow!

CMLL-MEX: Mistico & Friends vs the Pesta Negra, plus the feared Mendoza/No Limit team.

AAA-MEX: Mesias vs Wagner; nice of them to do the Perros del Mal finish without actually being on the show. Also, Teddy vs Jack.

FSE: Infernales/Vangelis vs Azteca/Angel/Tony, and a grab bag main event

C3: Hijos vs Fantasma/Mascara/Sombra, Angels/Tuareg war continues

Puebla: Well, they’ve got to not air the Garza match again this week, right? It’s too obvious, so they’ll probably skip the women’s match or just show Friday’s show instead.

ACM: Still don’t think I’ve got this right. Elegido/Octagon vs Scoria/Ozz does not sound especially promising.

Not predicting Veo. Yet.

Tuesday Mexico, GDL, VdE, AAA game to US

CMLL (TUE) 06/23 Arena Mexico [ESTORecord, CMLL]
1) Principe Valiente & TruenoCaligula & Semental
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman, ValienteCaligula, Hooligan, Méssala
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, VangelisAngel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Fabian el Gitano
4) Heavy Metal, Misterioso II, VirusMascara Dorada, Mictlan, Sagrado
5) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoHijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, La Sombra

Not much of note up top, but Hijo de Ultraman, Rayo Tapatios and Carrona were all MIA from the first two matches. Maybe Caligula in the opener is actually a typo, they both start with C. Valiente worked as a fill in the segunda; outside of major shows with guys shuffled lower than usual, he hasn’t been that low since September of 2007.

CMLL (TUE) 06/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, MT, MT]
1) Novato b Relampago
2) Metatron DCO Rafaga
3) Palacio Negro b Saturno
4) Casanova b Asesino Negro
5) Mascara Magica & Satanico b Metal Blanco & Neutron
6) Princesa Blanca b Lady Apache [MEX WOMEN]
7) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro b Blue Panther, Toscano, Volador Jr.

Verano de Escandalo 2009 will take place on August 16 in Monterrey. That’s a month earlier than they ran the show last year, which allows them to space it out more from the Pena Memorial show.

Gamespot says the AAA video game IS coming to the US. Article loses points for misidentifying the La Parka, gains them all back by wondering if Guapito is in the game. Note that the article says late 2009 or early 2010, where we’ve heard just late 2009 up to this point.

Mistico says lucha libre wrestlers peak at 20 years in, so he does not yet consider himself an all time great.

SuperLuchas is selling Histeria and Psicosis masks.

Cesar rolls with posts looking forward to Juvi’s responce to Konnan’s latest comments, on the death of the indpendent movement, and how wrestlers need big promotions to be stars, and vice versa.

A Costa Rica paper previews the AAA show there. Tickets go from 15000 to 55000. For those who can’t convert from colonoes, that’s 26.25 to 96.25 US, or 348.84 to 1278.09 MEX. More than TripleMania?

Solar has a new website. With store! Yay, doing a website to make money, that’s actually how it’s supposed to work.

Ras de Lona #51 is mostly on the Stuka/Fantasma/Sangre/Rojo trip to Europe. Amused to see Hijo del Fantasma, while his associates were yelling in spanish at the camera, do interviews in completely fine English; he’s the guy WWE should’ve actually taken, glad they didn’t.

Lucha Libre will be in the Louvre in Paria, modeling a collection of clothes from a Mexican designer. Cassandor and Santo will be wrestling at a show Friday and Saturday to promote the collection.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches last week’s Arena Puebla, and seems to like the locals mathc baove the minis. Meanwhile, any time I have to watch lucha, I’m fighting my way thru TripleMania. I need to work a trade!

LuchaWorld has Robert on AAA 04/10/08 in Toluca and CMLL’s Record show from 05/14/08. Figure they’ll end up doing the show with them next year. Next epdition of Slamming’ Stan is tomorrow.

Via el Maritnete: video of Konnan Big vs Cibernetico . Watch at your own risk.
