UG b Mistico, interviews, lineups

Other places are more qualified to talk about this, but I’d just like to point you to go look for them if you’ve not yet heard about legendary Japanese pro wrestler Mitsuharu Misawa passed away this past evening in Japan, from a heart attack after taking a back suplex. Misawa wrestled in Mexico as Kamikaze Misawa very earlier in his career. Misawa spearheaded the NOAH group, and I have no idea how/if this will change their relationship with AAA.

CMLL (FRI) 06/12 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, ESTO, cesar, Ovaciones, Box Y Lucha]
1) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico, Shockercito
2) Maximo, Sagrado, Valiente b Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
3) Atlantis, Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla b Blue Panther, La Sombra, Toscano
4) Hector Garza b Mephisto [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
5) Mistico b Ephesto [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
6) Ultimo Guerrero b Volador Jr. [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
7) Negro Casas b La Mascara [CMLL Universal, eightfinal]
8) Hector Garza b Mistico [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
9) Ultimo Guerrero b Negro Casas [CMLL Universal, quarterfinal]
10) Ultimo Guerrero b Mistico [CMLL Universal, semifinal]
11) Shocker DQ Dos Caras Jr.

Not the overwhelming tecnico show of most Kid’s Days.

Main event was a battle of guys faking fouls. Dos got the first fall by faking one, Shocker tied it up with an armbreaker, and faked his own foul for the win.

Story of the tournament (and the only one people write much about) was the final. Mistico sent UG out with a headscissors and followed with a tornillo, but UG moved out of the way and Mistico hit the floor unimpeded. Guerrero brought back in, added a Guerrero Special, and got the clean pin. Mistico was strechered out after. As Alan noted in the comments last night, this is the first (documented) match ever where Ultimo Guerrero defated Mistico in a singles match – he was at least 0-10 before this.

Longest tournament match was, oddly, the Garza/Mephisto match to lead off the tournament at 7:11. It was the only match over 5 minutes.

Box Y Lucha article reposts
– As expected, Mistico took the first oppurinty he could to say he was misquoted about leaving CMLL, but he’s still definite about wanting to main event this year’s anniversary show.
La Nazi explains she’s been out with knee and back injuries. She’s wanted to visit Pierroth, but she can’t actually find them.
Super Crazy talks about dropping out of school at 14 to work, so he could pay for his wrestling school.
Bengala, who says the programming department came up with his name. That would confirm it’s a new one. He’s been wrestling four years.
– The new Metro talks about training with the olympic wrestling committee before starting in pro wrestling.
Villano III talks about wrestling the Hippies.

Fuego en el Ring interviews Kid Tiger. He explains he turned rudo because Puma Kid pointed out it was better than facing each other all the time. That sounds believable. In the seemingly ever changing family relations, Tiger Kid refers to Puma as his cousin (not his brother) and says Felino’s so much his favorite uncle, it’s like he is his father.

AAA talks to Dr. Wagner about wrestling in TripleMania tonight.

Canek, when discussing an appearance in Tabasco, declares that Wagner is afraid of him, that the golden age of wrestling is not over because he’s still around, that the WWE in Mexico is a fad and will be gone in three years, and that he’s still at the top of lucha libre.

Kcidis draws Konnan, unafraid of ghosts.

Proyeccion Luchistica has an interview with indy wrestler Black Falcon., and a video interview with the junior Piratas

LuchandoLibre has their picks for Zorro/X-Pac trios, Cruiserweight title match, and Tag title match. I must’ve missed a couple here, or they’re coming later today.

CMLL (TUE) 06/16 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Principe Valiente vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Bronco, Hooligan, Polvora vs Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo de Ultraman, Metalico
3) Fabian el Gitano, Leono, Stuka Jr. vs Dr. X, Euforia, Nosferatu
4) Metro, Mictlan, Valiente vs Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
5) Naito, Ultimo Guerrero, Yujiro vs Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano

Shocker/UG continues. Okumura in the semimain? It’s not as though someone else makes more sense, it’s a lesser amount of rudos on this show.

CMLL (FRI) 06/19 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Sensei vs Inquisidor & Semental
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo vs Flash, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
3) Dark Angel vs Princesa Sujei [lightning]
4) La Mascara, Maximo, Sagrado vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Hector Garza, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Texano Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL UNIVERSAL]

With the tournament almost over, the lightning match returns. Mistico continues to fight the Pesat Negra. Can Texano beat Ultimo Guerrero without it feeling like a massive fluke?

Different poll than usual this time; you can check as many answers as you believe true. It’s really 8 yes/no polls folded into one

AAA says they’ll start coverage of TripleMania at 8:30; we’ll probably start coverage here a little bit before then. Check the site for a post, and maybe some links. Live results will also be out on twitter.

  1. I thinks majority of the tings listed will happen tonight at Triplemania. Including, Silver King is going to wear his mask, and hate to say this but, Zorro will take 10 cane shots aswell.:( However I got If Zorro is ever going to turn tecnico it will happen TONIGHT!!!

  2. Misawa passing away is pretty sad, it is like Peña and Solitario dying rolled into one… I don’t know if there will be NOAH anymore, let alone a relationship with AAA.

‘mania came up too fast this year…

Megacampeonato: I think people have a hard time figuring it out because they use the wwe/ppv mindframe, that they have to have the blow off here, but, I think this will just be another match, probably a no contest with lots of run ins… Mesias will be 0-0-2 for the last 2 manias.

Cage: Legion will win so Roldan will take ownership of the company from Marisela, revealing that Konnan was just a pawn in his game (in an ironic “art imitates life” thing)

    Cyrcus: Win

Xpac loses, I don’t really know why they brought him aboard if he’s not giving his hair up. I think their feud ends with this (If Zorro loses, then there might be a hair match later, but I doubt it).

I dunno what other matches are there.

  3. XUISAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That easily tops any surprise return at Triplemania tonight!

    I voted for:
    – Psycho Circus wins
    – Corleone/Latin new champs
    – Lighttubes in Cruiserweight
    – Silver wearing mask

CMLL has top 3. The tercera is setting the record for shortest trios match in CMLL history. First two falls done in 3:25 bell-to-bell. Only Atlantis/Blue got to wrestle the first fall. There was a dive less than 20 seconnds into the 2nd fall. This is with no editing either.

I wonder what the attendance was like? Doesn’t look too hot on TV even with 2×1 tickes and for a kids day show there is a remarkable lack of… kids… on TV at least.

    Lineups…

Tuesday looks awful for the second week in a row. The least they can do is set up Shocker vs UG and Valiente vs Virus for the following week. Otherwise it’s a waste of a show. Attendance will be brutal…

Friday doesn’t look too hot either. Happy to see the Fuerza Aerea back on Arena Mex shows and that they haven’t dropped the Lightning Match concept yet. Could be a good top 3 for TV or could be two mail-ins and a screwy main event.

Here’s the question: Since TM is done and CMLL offered no competition – are we not getting a major summer show/match from this promotion? Will we have to wait till August and/or September?

  4. I took Marco and Latin, Psycho Circus, and Roldan winning. Just not that confident in the Zorro/Pac match, I think Silver King will probably wear his mask to the ring, but I think it will come off at some point, and I think they will save the lightbulbs for the Megacampeanato or maybe the cage match.

I think I’m probably the only person who is looking forward to the cruiser match. I guess that makes some sense since it will likely be the type of match that is more enjoyable live than on TV. My biggest concern with it is that they will feel the need to try to top the spots in the cage match and championship match. I actually think that there can be a place for a hardcore match on a card, but this show is clearly going to attempt too many over the top spots (and that isn’t even counting if they try anything with Air Force and Circus).

I’m actually looking forward to the show more than I expected to be. My biggest concern is the likelihood that the ending of the championship match will be incredibly overbooked and lame.

  5. How come everyone can use Efesto’s finisher? And why does he usually lose to his own finisher?

Guerrero totally blew catching Volador on that dive. He wanted to turn it into that power bomb spot.

I really wonder what attendance on Kids Day was like if Mistico was getting boo’ed so loudly…

  6. @Rob: “XUISAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Is there any way to do a “Welcome Back!” chant on a blog?

I also wonder if CMLL is planning to run a big show this summer. Both WWE and Triplemania have now come and gone without anything big at all. Maybe they have realized they are burning through title defenses and stip matches too fast with the fan appreciation shows? Maybe they think the tournament takes the place of Jucio Final?

  7. From a live report on CMLL’s Hi5…

“LA ENTRADA FUE MALA REALMENTE CONSIDERANDO QUE SE FESTEJO A LOS NIÑOS EN SU DIA Y SE ESPERABA EL LLENO.”

  8. CMLL’s trivia question is actually something you CAN’T look up on LuchaWiki! The question is how many pounds has Valiente lost recently?

  9. @Alan: Mmhmm.

Things that I would immediatly change if I could knock-up Panico’s daughter and become the new CMLL booker:

    Garza – rudo
    Toscano – rudo
    Dos Jr. – tecnico
    Atlantis – tecnico
    Japanese duo – deported
Bam Bam – regular sized divsion

  10. OK, I liked the ending to Mistico/Guerrero. I wouldn’t have booked it for a kids day show, but I liked the ending.

  11. @Calabcd44: That depends what you mean by surprise. Do you mean a drunk Alan hitting the ring to attack Kenzo Suzuki? Some of us EXPECT that so it’s not really a surprise.

  12. @Calabcd44: I’m going to go with Alex turning. I would not be shocked to see someone return or debut.

@Rob: My wife points out that she is not going tonight so “anything can happen.”

  13. Watching AAA’s show today on Galavision and really these guys need to stop using these poorly built props/gimmicks (not that they will since they’ve been using them since the start of AAA).

Jack and Teddy going through that crappy trash can could have left one of them seriously hurt.

  14. @Rob: That may actually happen. ( I would laugh my ass off while they try to attack Konnan;)) I’m thinking we will see the return TECNICO ZORRO!!!

  15. @Calabcd44 I’m still holding out hope that one of these two guys will return tonight:

Rayo De Jalisco to join the Legion vs Cien Caras. It just has to happen

    or

The Return of Hijo del Perro Aguayo.

  16. I would love to see the Perros return. Would actually make me like AAA.

OK, gotta go run around some and then go to the show. I’ll post my thoughts when I get back.

Good luck tracking down a feed tonight.

  17. @Rob: I have no idea if there is going to be a chat. I think there is going to be a chat, considering that there was a chat for Dos Leyendas

  18. Okay so I just saw the main event intros and…

Did CMLL just do an angle where someone pretended to be Dos Jr. during the entrances without any announcer even noticing or any follow-up being done?

  19. There will be a chat, but not until 8:15ish. Show doesn’t start until 8:30.

  20. BUT IT’S ALREADY 8:40!!! Silly central zoners!

Awesome dive by Angel Azteca Jr. on C3!

  21. CMLL not drawing a good crowd last night might be bad news for AAA, it seems that lucha libre is not “in” right now, I bet they’ll do a ton of money (more than when Peña was around) with those prices, but I think that most people won’t be willing to spend 100-150 pesos to watch it from afar… considering there’s no stip in the card.

The roldans got into a dumb battle with that Silver King thing, there should have been Zorro instead of Silver King and have the cage match with hairs/masks in the line, Santo risking his identity would have warrant a sellout (even if anyone would know that Teddy or Evans was losing the hair).

  22. They should’ve used Black Tigre… =p

Biggest surprise would be Ciber returning tonight, but it’s pretty impossible (and therefore, the biggest surprise)

  23. Mascara Dorada just ran down the entire ramp of Arena Mexico and tried to leap over the top rope with a frankensteiner…

    … but slipped.

    It was epic.

    He’s still awesome though.

  24. @Rob: I can’t even type because I am laughing so hard at you deporting No Limit.

    Seriously though, Why?
