Chela Salazar, Cien Caras, Fuerza Guerrera

Box Y Lucha has a great bio of Chela Salazar, who passed away on Saturday after a long battle with cancer in her neck and liver. She lived in the Chicago area the in recent years, and there was a nice tribute show for her last year. The cancer had surely taken a toll on her. She didn’t seem sick (Box Y Lucha says she’d been stable for one year), but you wouldn’t have known she was a former luchadora.

Chela’s career highlights included being the part of the first match in Arena Coliseo after the city’s ban on women’s wrestling was lifted (11/21/1986, teaming with Irma Aguila and Irma Gonzalez vs Mujer Salvaje, Martha Villalobos, and Yuma), and the first woman to lose her hair in Arena Mexico, losing to Pantera Surena on July 17, 1987.

Box Y Lucha says Cien Caras returned to AAA tonight, to join the AAA side against the Legion.

indy (FRI) 06/05 Coliseo Centenario de Torreon [DJ Spectro]

2) Mr. Aguilita & Pequeño Halloween b Celestial & Konami
3) Lady Warrior & Mujer Demente b Flor Metalica & Lilly Fighter
4) X-Fly L Olimpico, Damian 666, Super Porky, Super Crazy, Mr. Aguila [mask, hair, cage]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. DRAW el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, El Hijo Del Santo

DJ Spectro says 3,500. X-Fly’s lost his hair twice this year already (and probably would’ve lost a third if not for the flu canceling the Record show.) Olimpico gets credited with the win. Main event was a Mexican indy special: Perros’s guys attacked Wagner and Santo for the non-finish.

ESPN Deportes previews TripleMania.

In Ovaciones, Cibernetico promotes the Bizarros by talking about how Konnan should honor his retirement stip, and then taking about how he doesn’t want to talk about Konnan anymore.

Fuerza cuts a much better promo in this week’s SuperLuchas. He has five points to make, helpfully numbered:
1) Konnan pretends that Anotnio Pena was a father to him, but he stole AAA’s talent to go to Promo Azteca and the US, and burned an AAA title on TV.
2) Konnan lost a retirement match, is still wrestling, so his word is nothing
3) Konnan talked fans into giving him money for his kidney transplant because he was so ppor, and yet he’s getting money from his TNA settlement
4) Konnan casts doubt onto the character of Mistico, but has far more personal scandals, including accusing on Cien Caras stealing his wife
5) Everything Konnan has has been pure crap.

Fuerza says Konnan is a selfish liar who only cares about himself, but holds no respect for himself. Fuerza really needs to be on TV just to be cutting promos. Fuerza says Konnan is getting $500,000 from TNA, which can not possibly be true.

SuperLuchas also has Dr. X’s second “what do I need to do for CMLL to push me?” interview of the year. The answer does not appear to be “more complaining to the press”, sadly.

AAA looks back at Psycho Circus‘s debut (facing much the same team they’ll be facing at TripleMania, as well as Muerte Cibernetica and Konnan‘s return to AAA. A bunch of people on that show who are long gone, of course.

  1. Good for AAA for bringing in Cien Caras. As I’ve said before these guys they’re bringing in like Dr. Wagner Jr., Hijo del Santo, and now Cien Caras shows that they’re using their brains and I hope this trend continues.

  2. I doubt Cien is back to wrestle… more likely he’s just here to fit with the “let’s bring all the original AAA guys back to win control of the company only to have them fail at the hands of Konnan” angle.

Pirata Jr./Kaleth/Nemesis reunited in Naucalpan and against Freelance! I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THAT!

Shame they have such a great tercera for Sunday’s non-TV. Seems like they are only using Turbo/Segura/Thunder on non-TV, huh?

The biggest news of the day probably occured after you wrote all this but THE DISTRITO FEDERAL TAG TEAM TITLES CHANGED HANDS! *throws confetti in the air*

  3. @Rob: Jr. Piratas + Freelance = must watch TV. I know how you feel, you would think IWRG would put Turbo on TV, I mean he’s TURBO!! Just think if Turbo and Guizmo ( original gremlin look, not DTU guy) made TV. It would be better than the Superbowl and World Series put together.

  4. @Calabcd44: D.F. *tag*. It was held by the Rayos Tapatios and Ice Killer/some other guy won them tonight. NOBODY DETHRONES LOS OFICIALES!

If IWRG really loved us they would book Freelance, Turbo, Traumas vs Oficiales/Black Thunder for two Thursdays from now. Actually I think IWRG should just turn Black Thunder into a cop and regimmick him.

  5. RFC’s board is reporting Cien Caras will be the special referee for the Triplemania main event.

  6. After seeing him two weeks in a row, I think I like this Angelico guy. What’s his background? Has he ben around before and I just didn’t notice him?

Ricky Cruzz on the other hand I could handle not seeing anymore.

  7. @Alan: Cubs says Cruz is just vacationing so he’ll be gone soon enough.

Angelico is some guy from Italy who I think came in for one of the Ultimo Dragon shows in Mexico and liked it so he came back to train with Negro Navarro. I like him too even though I’ve only seen the one match so far. He can work and definitely has the look that can take him far. Wouldn’t be shocked if CMLL tried to do something with him one day.

  8. @Rob: First Angelico match was definitely better, but that is easily blamed on the fact that he was matched up with Cruz this entire match. He still managed to look decent. Odd to see them both thrown into the main, so is Cruz just hear to cash in and drop his hair to Angelico? Would be a tough match for him to make it look good all the way through, but an easy stip match to help build him up I guess.

He seems like he would fit in well in CMLL if they decide he is a foreigner worth taking a chance on. Hope he sticks around with IWRG enough for me to see him next month at the expo.

  9. @Alan: When Cruz(z?) was in last year, he was clearly just there to lose a mask ASAP. He’s already scheduled to be around longer than they originally said, so it’s probably just the hair match and out.

Angelico is actually said to be a South Africian who got picked up by NWE, and got to Mexico thru Ultimo Dragon. I believe he’s the guy who was wrestling as ‘Adam Bridle’ on Dragon shows last year and this. Navarro and others must be really high on him, or they wouldn’t be giving him this feud instead of a guy who’s been around longer.

  10. @ohtani’s jacket: Nobody is claiming he is a superworker, just that he was enjoyable in his debut and in Alan’s case (since I haven’t seen it) – his second match. Surely you can’t be writing the guy off as being garbage after seeing him in only one match?

  11. And I’ll agree that the second match wasn’t as good, but he was matched up almost entirely with Ricky Cruz. I definitely haven’t seen stuff he has done elsewhere, but it looks like there is a bit online from South Africa.
