Mexico & GDL previews, new juniors headed into CMLL (are not that interesting),

ESTO has a preview of tonight’s Arena Mexico show. Neither Ephesto nor Rey Bucanero has to buy a ticket tonight, because they’re in the main event trios: Ephesto/Texano/Terrible vs Rey/Atlantis/UG. Ephesto’s already making mask vs hair challenges, though he’d be okay with a team vs team match.

You know, I’m seriously excited for this prospects of this match – they’re both good guys, and I’m not quite sure about the outcome – but I sure hope this isn’t their big main event against TripleMania.

Just as newsworthy show in Guadalajara. Less for the feud, more that they’re running at all:

CMLL (TUE) 05/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy vs Acertijo
2) Idolo vs Virgo
3) Nube Roja vs Exterminador
4) Casanova vs Rey Trueno
5) Gallo & Metal Blanco vs Mascara Magica & Satanico
6) Mascara Dorada & Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
7) Hector Garza, Mictlan, Shocker vs Averno, Dos Caras Jr., Mephisto

First show here since April 26th. A lay off of 23 days, or 7 canceled shows. Come to think of it, the Shocker/Dos feud is important if it leads into the anti-TripleMania show. Feels like we’re either getting a double main event or a lot of feuds shoved into a cage. (Shocker/Rey/UG/Atlantis vs Terrible/Texano/Epehsto/Dos? Shocker on the same side as the Guerreros?)

Might as well put Sunday’s lineup here too:

CMLL (SUN) 05/24 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Hierro & Skaxy vs Angel del Mal & Relampago Azul
2) Metatron & Palacio Negro vs Dragon & Rafaga
3) Leon Blanco & Magnum vs Asesino Negro & Infierno
4) Metro, Neutron, Stuka Jr. vs Mr. Trueno, Vangelis, Virus
5) Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

A lot of extra local guys bundled onto this card to get them some work.

lovewarrior @ el Martinete has Luchas 2000 #470, which lists the three new juniors coming to CMLL
– Ultraman Jr.
– As Jr.
– Rene Guajarado Jr.

Ultraman Jr. has been around since 2003, and has worked stretched for IWRG and AAA without really catching on. He’s worked in CMLL arenas as part of Dragon shows in the past. This is actually the second Ultraman Jr.; the first is Starman, who was forced to change names to avoid a lawsuit from the original.

As (Ace) was a late 70s/80s wrestler, who never made it much big. At least under that name; his career arc indicates he either got hurt and had to retire, or he switched names. As Jr. has turned up in small shows around Mexico City the last couple years, including teaming with As against Signo and Signo Jr. last November.

“Rene Guajardo Jr.” is more accurately Rene Guajardo III, but that’s just not what they say it. His father was still working Monterrey as recent as two years ago, and this one has only worked one EAW show last March.

Reforma has an interview with a Hijo starting today, El Hijo del Sicodelico. He hopes to beat Ultimo Guerrero for the heavyweight title someday. It’s good to have dreams.

AAA has an article on Halcon 78 returning to the promotion on an Oaxaca spot show. “Halcon 78” is from the first year of AAA; he was regimmicked into El Mexicano and worked with AAA all the way thru 2000. As El Mexicano, his name has been popping up on spot show lineups the last year or so, but I’m not sure what led him to go back to his old gimmick.

Box Y Lucha #2922 has the Bizarros on the cover. There’s also a new edition of their TV show.

Mistico tells Box Y Lucha that he’s got ideas for a big fifth anniversary celebration. Also, Mima Shimoda talks about her upcoming pictorial in H Por Hombres.

WagnerMania has an interview with Super Porky.

LuchandoLibre has an interview with the EAW promoters.

LuchaWorld has Robert on Monterrey from 05/02/04 and 05/09/04, as well as KrisZ’s news update.

  1. Anyone see Ras de Lona? I’m wondering who Dos Caras Jr., was teasing as coming to help him against the tecnicos? They showed a silhouette of the person, who Dos described as “family”, and “of the same blood”, and it looked like he had long hair.

  2. Hijo Del Sicodelico fits the description. Now let’s just pray he can wrestle if he’s going to get a superpush.

  3. I haven’t heard much in the way of positive when it comes to Hijo del Sicodelico, but he’s only been wrestling a year or so am I wrong?

  4. This is completely off topic, but how are CMLL Puebla shows, generally speaking? Alfredo just got a lot of new shows in, and I’m curious if the big names just completely mail it in there or not. Any recommendations?

  5. Generally speaking the best stuff on that show is from the locals who go all out. I can’t recall a single show thus far (I’ve seen up to the 2/19 show) where the best match HASN’T been the locals. Well… actually the only exception to that rule is when the mini’s are on the show but that may be my personal bias kicking in.

It’s a mixed bag when it comes to the CMLL regulars. If the main event is a trios match with the big stars – don’t expect much except lots of stalling, comedy and then the tecnicos getting all their spots in. The midcard stuff with the CMLL regulars varies. I’ve seen some really good (to the point it’s better than a lot of C3 matches) and some that are pretty bad but not embarassing. Basically the guys will do just enough to get to the point where you can say it was “mailed in” instead of saying it was embarassingly awful.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Stuka Jr./Virus singles match, all the locals/mini’s matches I haven’t seen and the 3/23/09 main event.

OH. And the tag match of the century that I know everyone is looking forward to…

Asturiano & Centella de Oro vs. Artillero & Súper Comando

I can’t imagine that not being unbelievably awesome.

  6. I just put in an order and I am now kicking myself for overlooking that 2/16 show. The bulk of my order was Puebla stuff. It’s too bad the guy who was upping all the Puebla/Cadena shows went AWOL but I guess it’s good thing for Alfredo.

  7. Would be huge if Dos Caras Sr. would also work with/against Dos Jr. He’s due to lose his mask.

Yeah, Psicodelioco Hijo sounds good with CMLL standing their ground by creating new stars and feuds and not bringing back guys like Perro Jr, Santo, or LA Park.

  8. @Kyle: AWOL or do you think Fredo … “took care of business” … if you get my drift. Fredo is PURE GANGSTA after all! He attended Lucha shows in COMPTON!

@Calabcd44: I thought he should have kept the Metalik persona myself (didn’t we have this same discussion on youtube? :)) since CMLL already had a Mascara Purpura and you don’t need another Mascara (insert color) around. Plus I thought they built his debut up too much and he was too nervous so it was a rough couple of months. But they seem to have “fixed” him by letting him only work with Felino and Virus for a month and a half or so. Whatever they did worked beautifully b/c ever since late March he has been INCREDIBLE. He’s hitting all his complicated spots and seems to have a good ring presence. I hope he keeps it up and we finally get that singles match vs Virus on TV!

  9. Speaking of Fredo – is that slambamjam banner on the ByL forum new or have I been missing it all this time?

  10. @Calabcd44: That’s the problem. It should be a slow build, not a microwave main event like Dos Caras Jr. vs. Shocker appears to be.

  11. Let me just say, If the Puebla/Cadena stuff was still getting uploaded I would probably buy something else from Fredo anyway. I don’t think he could ever run out of stuff I want.

  12. Watching RdL again, it does not appear that Dos Caras’s mystery friend is wearing a mask in the vignette.

  13. LM F’N AO! All three new juniors debuting in the same segunda on an Arena Coliseo. Way to make an impact!
