Mexico & GDL previews, new juniors headed into CMLL (are not that interesting),

ESTO has a preview of tonight’s Arena Mexico show. Neither Ephesto nor Rey Bucanero has to buy a ticket tonight, because they’re in the main event trios: Ephesto/Texano/Terrible vs Rey/Atlantis/UG. Ephesto’s already making mask vs hair challenges, though he’d be okay with a team vs team match.

You know, I’m seriously excited for this prospects of this match – they’re both good guys, and I’m not quite sure about the outcome – but I sure hope this isn’t their big main event against TripleMania.

Just as newsworthy show in Guadalajara. Less for the feud, more that they’re running at all:

CMLL (TUE) 05/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Thunder Boy vs Acertijo
2) Idolo vs Virgo
3) Nube Roja vs Exterminador
4) Casanova vs Rey Trueno
5) Gallo & Metal Blanco vs Mascara Magica & Satanico
6) Mascara Dorada & Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
7) Hector Garza, Mictlan, Shocker vs Averno, Dos Caras Jr., Mephisto

First show here since April 26th. A lay off of 23 days, or 7 canceled shows. Come to think of it, the Shocker/Dos feud is important if it leads into the anti-TripleMania show. Feels like we’re either getting a double main event or a lot of feuds shoved into a cage. (Shocker/Rey/UG/Atlantis vs Terrible/Texano/Epehsto/Dos? Shocker on the same side as the Guerreros?)

Might as well put Sunday’s lineup here too:

CMLL (SUN) 05/24 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Hierro & Skaxy vs Angel del Mal & Relampago Azul
2) Metatron & Palacio Negro vs Dragon & Rafaga
3) Leon Blanco & Magnum vs Asesino Negro & Infierno
4) Metro, Neutron, Stuka Jr. vs Mr. Trueno, Vangelis, Virus
5) Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado vs Black Warrior, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

A lot of extra local guys bundled onto this card to get them some work.

lovewarrior @ el Martinete has Luchas 2000 #470, which lists the three new juniors coming to CMLL
– Ultraman Jr.
– As Jr.
– Rene Guajarado Jr.

Ultraman Jr. has been around since 2003, and has worked stretched for IWRG and AAA without really catching on. He’s worked in CMLL arenas as part of Dragon shows in the past. This is actually the second Ultraman Jr.; the first is Starman, who was forced to change names to avoid a lawsuit from the original.

As (Ace) was a late 70s/80s wrestler, who never made it much big. At least under that name; his career arc indicates he either got hurt and had to retire, or he switched names. As Jr. has turned up in small shows around Mexico City the last couple years, including teaming with As against Signo and Signo Jr. last November.

“Rene Guajardo Jr.” is more accurately Rene Guajardo III, but that’s just not what they say it. His father was still working Monterrey as recent as two years ago, and this one has only worked one EAW show last March.

Reforma has an interview with a Hijo starting today, El Hijo del Sicodelico. He hopes to beat Ultimo Guerrero for the heavyweight title someday. It’s good to have dreams.

AAA has an article on Halcon 78 returning to the promotion on an Oaxaca spot show. “Halcon 78” is from the first year of AAA; he was regimmicked into El Mexicano and worked with AAA all the way thru 2000. As El Mexicano, his name has been popping up on spot show lineups the last year or so, but I’m not sure what led him to go back to his old gimmick.

Box Y Lucha #2922 has the Bizarros on the cover. There’s also a new edition of their TV show.

Mistico tells Box Y Lucha that he’s got ideas for a big fifth anniversary celebration. Also, Mima Shimoda talks about her upcoming pictorial in H Por Hombres.

WagnerMania has an interview with Super Porky.

LuchandoLibre has an interview with the EAW promoters.

LuchaWorld has Robert on Monterrey from 05/02/04 and 05/09/04, as well as KrisZ’s news update.

Gato and Pimpi did dives in the opener. Guapito hit Argenis, and Billy got him in a ‘rana for the win.

Alan beat Laredo in the only match this round without interference.

Much like Electroshock at Rey de Reyes, Jack wanted to win this match by himself and had Teddy ejected from ringside when he tried to help out. Teddy came back anyway, and cost Jack the match. After, the Teddy and the rest of the Legion destroyed Jack, kicking Evans out of the group.

Nicho struck the ref (Piero) in his match, knocking him out for a while. Marco came while Piero was down, distracting Nicho into being beat by Alex.

Semimain included obligatory crowd brawling. Wagner got Ozz with the Wagner Driver for the win.

Mesias was distracted in the main event, because Wagner stuck around to do commentary. Both sides ended up brawling outside, and Electro was the only one to beat the count back in.

After that match, Nicho jumped Marco, and the rest of the Legion attacked Mesias and Latin. Konnan got the microphone to demand Roldan come out and reveal the third man on his team. That’s when Roldan and Santo appeared, Santo returning to AAA and joining Roldan’s team.

In addition to what was posted previously, Reforma has their article on Santo, which has almost full teams for TripleMania

AAA: La Parka Jr., Octagon, El Hijo del Santo, Vampiro, Elegido
Legion: Kenzo Suzuki, Silver King, Chessman, Electroshock, ?

The big banner AAA’s had on it’s site all weekend, with the non-Santo guys on one side and those four rudos on the other side, kinda gave the surprise away.

It also gives the impression that Santo was a late addition, and I’m not sure if that means they’ll end up with a similar big name for the other side, or if they just haven’t worked out who’s left to be the last man on the Legion side. Zorro’s probably with X-Pac, Teddy’s probably with Jack, and from there you’re looking at Oriental, a member of the Dark Family or the amazing return of El Padrino. Yes, this is one case where the Foreign Legion might not have enough people. My mind is blown.

Next taping is Thursday in Aguascalientes, then Monday in Tlaxaca, and maybe a week from Sunday in Acapulco to wrap up the road to TripleMania.

Cruiserweight final IS at Aguascalientes. Score one for the AAA website! They were desperately needing a win.

Otherwise, it’s nice to see the minis on TV, but everything else is just shuffling towards TripleMania. Second continues the Billy/Fabi stuff. Fourth continues the X-Pac/Zorro/(Charly?) feud, as we wait to find out which of those guys end up in the cage match. Semimain should set up the tag title match.

I’m thinking Alex wins the cruiserweight title; he did leave CMLL because of things like never getting to win a title there. I’m kinda rooting for him, but I’d have no problem with Laredo Alan winning either (just wish he had a stronger lead up to this point.) I’d be okay with Extreme Tiger winning only if he continues to do all his promos while sitting in a tree.

Edit: somehow, I can type Alan Stone’s name and still think Laredo Kid won. Sorry.

I’ve got a special video preview of the main event:

El Hijo del Santo returns to AAA, will wrestle at TripleMania

(Still looking for full results from the taping. But, they might take forever to show up, and this is worth getting up now.)

El Hijo del Santo returned to AAA last night at the Leon TV taping. He’s the third member of AAA’s five man team to battle the Legion at TripleMania, joining La Parka Jr. and Octagon. There had been periodic rumors of Santo going to AAA the last few years – I believe the WON had one a couple weeks ago – but it’s always a big step to do it. Santo’s one of those guys who’d been critical of AAA’s current style in the past, but he also appeared on their TV to do a vignette introducing his son as the (“true”) third generation Santo.

Lucha libre en mexico (via superluchas) has a transcript of Santo’s speech in ring, and In Refroma (via Venom @ El Martinete) caught up with him after the show. The storyline is, as one of the original members of AAA, he’s returned to help get the company back to Antonio Pena’s family. Santo wasn’t on the first shows AAA ran in May of 1992, but started up with them in June and stayed with them thru their early hot period, leaving the company in August of 1995. Santo has worked on AAA spot shows and indy/AAA combo shows, but not been back for TV since.

As for other news we know from the taping: Extreme Tiger, Alex Koslov and Laredo Kid Alan Stone are the finalists in the cruiserweight tournament. AAA’s website continues to say the final will be in Aguascalientes, which is inconsistent with what people heard on the TV show two days ago. I guess we find out in Aguascalientes. Jack Evans appears to have turned tecnico and left the Legion, and Super Fly has not yet made the balancing turn the other way.
