05/04: GDL

CMLL (SUN) 04/26 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Ebola b Astaroth
2) Hierro & Metatron b Drago & Rafaga
3) Mr. Trueno & Satanico b Magnum & Neutron
4) Electrico, Tzuki, Ultimo Dragoncito b Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
5) Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero b La Sombra, Mascara Dorada, Mistico

Dunno why this took over a week, but maybe this will help end Rob’s vendetta versus Fuego en el Ring. Yes, Tzuki wrestled. Dragoncito ended up in the third row this time.

Ovaciones says CMLL has cards ready for shows starting with Friday’s Arena Mexico show, but they’re still not clear if they’re going to the okay to run. If there’s something official, I’ll have at least on the twitter account ASAP, but things are still quiet

Also from Ovaciones: Psicosis & Histeria’s multiman hair match from April 30th has been rescheduled for May 21st. Ovaciones lists the participants as Charly Manson, Elegido, Gronda II, Electroshock, Chris Stone, and Ozz, which is completely different than previously (Juventud Guerrera, Super Calo, el Signo, Psicosis II, Histeria, Mascara Roja, Ogun.) Not sure if AAA took the booking away from Psicosis and Histeria or if this might mean they’ve gone back.

Ovaciones has a third story about Fuerza Guerrera forming a new version of Los Bravos. The 80s version was himself, Dandy, and el Talisman. Based on this note and the direction they were going when IWRG got suspended, this group would be Fuerza, Juvi and Pirata Morgan. The group is supposed to debut on 05/14 in Arena Naucalpan.

Mistico will be appearing in ads for the PAN political party, talking about their efforts to stop drug trafficking and organized crime. Campaign season just started. SuperLuchas has the video at the above link, and then a bit of a commentary.

LATV’s changed up their programming schedule. We’ll see if I can remember this all the way to Wednesday, but it looks like:

Guerreros del Ring:
– new episode Saturday at 7pm EST
– reruns Friday at 7pm EST, Sat/Sun 2AM, Sun/Mon 2AM

Ras de Lona (no idea on which is meant to be the new one, but I guess Tuesday)
– Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 6 PM EST
– Tuesday at 7:30 PM
– Wed at 10:30 AM, 02:30 PM,
– Wed/Thu at 2:30 AM

The Salamanca tag team championship will be defended in Leon for the time being. The former Salamanca champions, El Vengador & Chale II, lost it in Leon to Creazy Star & Dr. Luk, and the local promoter/trainer/main event wrestler Guerrero 2000 says he’s not giving the old champs a rematch.

Cesar looks at how those who’ve jumped promotions the last couple of years have done.

Dinastia Trauma looks at their tecnico run in IWRG.

Konnan is supposed to be on tonight’s/tomorrow’s Wrestling Observer Radio. I believe this is the free week for them, though the tease seemed to be talk about RAW.

  1. I’m pretty sure Konnan is more qualified to talk about RAW than how to book an actual promotion so Meltzer finally made a good booking.

LET’S GET SOME FUCKING CARDS UP. I’M GETTING IMPATIENT NOW.

I’ve never lived anywhere outside of the eastern time zone so when you list things as ‘EST’ – is that for our benefit or do you normally do that? Like if the Cubs are in town to lose 3 straight to the Jays, does the game start at 8:30 EST in your mind or just 7:30 your time? This is probably a dumb question.

  2. @Rob: I don’t think there will be any lineups this week either, or at least not any actual lucha happening in Mexico City this week. The AP is reporting that restaurants will open on Wed, museums and churches will open on Thursday, but that “bars, nightclubs, cinemas and theaters” will remain closed until further notice. I am guessing that Arena Mexico will fall into this category. Not sure if this will just apply to the DF or if it will affect Puebla, etc.

  3. I consider Arena Mexico to be holier than a church! It should open Tuesday!

That’s shitty news though. Forget all of us who just want to see our Lucha Libre, what about all these guys with no jobs now and families to feed? Brazo De Oro should be busy trying to fix that rather than reuniting the Brazos for an Arena Lopez Mateos show.

  4. Well, Arena Mexico is la catedral mexicana, so I guess there is the possibility of some confusion resulting in them being able to run shows this weekend.

Hopefully things will keep returning to normal down here over the next week or so and people can get back to work (including the luchadors).

You Canadians seem to be punishing Mexico for the swine flu right now by making TVC Deportes air the world diving championships from Montreal in IWRG’s normal timeslot.

  5. @Alan: Montreal isn’t part of Canada. At least not for us hockey fans.

On the bright side for Cubs – all this time off should have him properly focused on researching baseball statistics. I’m even giving it a shot!

    Chicago Cubs 13 11 .542

    Toronto Blue Jays 18 9 .667

    HMM.

  6. No-hitter turns into 3-2 Cleveland.

    3-2 turns into 4-3 Jays.

4-3 turns into 6-4 for the bad guys.

6-4 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th turns into 6-6 tie!

Sadly I was flipping back and forth between the Jays and Crosby vs Ovechkin. Yay Ovie!

  7. I am listening to the WO and Konnan says he’s a stickler for logical booking. huh?

  8. WO show was great, Konnan talking MMA is always fun. Oh yeah, and the list of stuff Juvie’s done was entertaining as well.

  9. Konnan is one of the few real people in the business that don’t give a fuck.

Tony, you should tell him next time the in ring product is not good if you feel that way. Fuck being conservative, Konnan don’t care he want you to be honest.

Cruiserweight tournament been pretty good so far and the best thing about lucha this year. Mesias vs. Chessman cage match is still my match of the year.

Bischoff said the swine flu is overrated and they went through this in 1976. LOL, Bischoff is a fool. People is overreacting to this shit. More people die from the regular flu.Only in Mexico…………

  10. @USAUSA1: Luckily you don’t have to worry about the swine flu. You should definitely be more concerned about other major diseases consider how far up Konnan’s ass you seem to be…

“Konnan is one of the few real people in the business that don’t give a fuck.”

    AAA’s booking clearly shows that!

  11. Heyyyyy guys…is the Observer Live show archived anywhere for download? Konnan on Lucha Listen-In was REALLY entertaining.

“Billy Boy? I don’t see why you’d even say that!”

  12. Ah crap. I didn’t realize it was the Observer show on Alvarez’ site, I thought it was Wrestling Observer Live.

I’ll probably end up subscribing to Alvarez again sometime, I really liked his audio shows when I was a subscriber.

  13. What startled me was Alvarez saying (on the F4W w/ Sims) that he wasn’t done editing the Observer yet. Has Meltzer pawned the entire wrestling portion of the newsletter off to Bryan and only covers MMA now? I figured he’d eventually cut back on writing about anything outside of MMA and mainstream wrestling news (The Rock in movies) but didn’t know it would come so soon.

    Or did I mishear?

  14. @Rob: I think you misunderstood. I presume Dave sends the newsletter to him in whatever format his printer user, and the editing Bryan is doing is to make it look better for the online version.

  15. @Alfredo: “Dodgers 10-0 at home, bab-yeeeee!

    18-8! WOO HOO!!!”

    STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROIDS.

    STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROIDS.

    STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROIDS.

    Shameful.

Clean teams like the Jays and Cubs are disgusted by you.

  16. Those teams aren’t clean, they just haven’t had any players caught recently. I haven’t kept up with the history of MLB players caught on the juice, but I’m pretty sure there have been players, wait Clemens was a Blue Jay Uh-oh, that have used steroids on those teams.

I’m not even shocked about this sort of thing coming up nowadays.

As big of a story as this Manny deal is, I laughed when ESPN’s reporter made it seem like L.A. fans were all ‘heartbroken’ over it. I think she forgot that the Lakers pretty much own the town nowadays, so anything going on outside of the Lakers-Rockets series is pretty much forgotten amongst the fans here. Manny’s probably lucky he got caught while the Lakers are in the playoffs because the way sports fans are, they tend to be forgiving. Its really the media (the writers who vote for things like awards and HOF) and the purists who are probably going to be the ones that are hurt because of this.
