– As listed on the ticketmaster page, Kenzo Suzuki has taken Psycho Clown’s spot in the tournament

– no more mystery tag; Zorro teams with the HF2 against Charly and 2/3rds of D-Mex. This dovetails nicely with the Cibernetico rumor

– opening match trio confirmed, Tigre Cota in place of Oriental

Update 2: I failed at reading – main event is a cage match. Not that it’ll keep anyone out.

BTW – since we all knew CMLL was announcing their main event today, why announce Rey de Reyes? Really now.

Look at all those new people on top! I don’t know about you, but I’ve thought “??” has long been underutilized by this promotion and I’m just thrilled for him to get a shot at working fourth from the top.

I’m shocked and amazed and also pretty happy that everything I thought was going to happen in the tournament appears to be happening:

– Parka and Silver King are clearly winning their brackets.
– Black Abyss playing the role of Mr. Niebla and taking Abismo out of the tournament just like last year (but a round early) is in play, and Ozz is surely a pinball for Latin Lover.
– the two rudos who I thought might sneak thru are in the same group! You know, this sounds like a reversal of everything I’ve said for the last six or so months, but I would actually have Electroshock beat Super Fly. Unless you’re going to have Super Fly win the whole tournament (which I’d also be fine with), there’s no point of finally giving him the win only for him to lose later in the show.

Silver King, who I panned when he was announced firt, is clearly now the leading candidate to take this. I’m mocking the concept, because I won’t believe until I see it, but if they truly want to put new people on top (and also grease the skids for a certian person to show up here), Silver King’s the guy most set up for it.

Charly & Zorro’s tag is listed as “HELL RADICAL BROTHERS”. They might as well use blinking text to make it clear we’re to expect Cibernetico to return here. Zorro’s spot is surely the random foreign guest start of the evening.

Vampiro & Konnan might not be the worst match of the year – then again, it might! – but it’ll defintely be the one with the most shortcuts and gimmicks used to hide these two. (Even though Jack & Teddy aren’t booked, I wonder if they might get to show up just to take all the bumps here like in the Latin Lover match.) I guess we’re getting Vampiro out of retirement because the stip was “Roldan can pick anyone he wants to represent him”, so the Legion gave him their okay to use Vampiro for this match. For the rest of them, I dunno. As much as the skuttlebutt has hinted the end of the Legion around this show, I’m not as sure right now and wouldn’t be surprised to see a Chessman run-in to cause Vamp to lose and to set up those matches.

I hope the Mesias/Chessman matches they’ve been doing are really good, because I don’t have any desire to see that match at Rey de Reyes right now. Maybe they’ll change my mind.

Original Entry:

At Plaza de Toros Nuevo Progreso in Guadalajara. No lineup announced yet.

(this is just a post to keep track of the Rey de Reyes entrants. I’ll edit them in as they’re announced, and repost this when the lineup comes out.)

  1. Can I help you?

Joe Lider/Nicho vs some version of the Mexican Powers vs Teddy/Jack vs two random guys who are willing to do hardcore matches or Aero Star/Laredo Kid to ensure their talents are wasted – AAA Tag Titles (Ladder Match)

  2. I’m trying not to be annoyed with the card until they actually announce the matches. Plenty of time then.

  3. @thecubsfan: It’s on the AAA page if you click to see all the Rey De Reyes entrants. They didn’t give him his own article like the other dudes which should lower his chances of winning considerably.

  4. @Rob: that, and the fact that he is Black Abyss, being killed on every show since Abismo came back. (Thanks!)

  5. If Joe Lider is in the tournament… how can they do the usual crappy ladder match? Will they just hang a contract for a tag title shot instead? Or a duck?

  6. Add Dark Ozz as the 10th guy for Rey De Reyes. AAA didn’t update the entry page but if you watch the main headlines that keep flashing on their website, the 5th one shows his picture and says he is the 10th invitee.

  7. Wow… Konnan thinks his promotion is fully of shitty workers and books those top three matches? The main event will be pointless brawling till Chessman falls off the roof of the building. The semi-main will be a cripple against a rapidly again wrestler who was never good in the first place. The special attraction match has a guy working on a broken leg. And the rest of the card is setting up Parka Jr. vs Silver King.

    WOW.

If Konnan had any compassion at all he would at least throw us all a bone and booking Aero Star/Laredo Kid/Gato Eveready/Gran Apache vs Billy Boy/Poder Del Norte. Just let them steal the show in the opener. Please.

I’m already picking the final 4 as Parka/Silver King/Super Fly/Ozz. Super Fly/Ozz fit the bill as new faces who can be killed by Parka/Silver King who can then somehow attempt to work a match.

God… Vampiro vs Konnan in 2009. Konnan really does hate every AAA fan.

  8. Konnan/Vamp needs to be one of those matches that has everyone interfereing so we never have to see the two lock-up. Instead I get the feeling they’re gonna try to prove something to themselves and work a 20 minute pathetic brawl.

  9. Didn’t I say it would be Vampiro? It was kinda obvious.

A lot of you guys aren’t liking the Konnan vs Vampiro match, but it will at least create a tiny bit of interest considering the stipulation. But Messia vs Chessman is going to be the biggest waste of time as nobody will really about it, and this has been done over and over again.

  10. There seems to also be an opening match on this show which is the usual clusterfuck we expected minus the equipment:

    Jack/Teddy vs Crazzy Boy/Super Crazy vs Koslov/X-Pac

Koslov down to opening match~! Way to go~! Career heading in the right direction now~! Not even teaming with AZUCA~!

  11. Much better. Although I fear the “new direction” will include too much of Alex Koslov, X-Pac and Romero.

  12. Here is the Madero lineup

3/20 – Centro de Convenciones de Ciudad Madero (TV taping)
    1. Aero Star & Fabi Apache vs. Oriental & Cinthia Moreno
    2. Abismo Negro/Gato Eveready/Ultimo Gladiador vs. Black Abyss/Histeria/Psicosis
    3. La Parka Jr. & Luchador Sorpresa vs. Konnan & Silver King
    4. Charly Manson/El Mesias/Sean Waltman vs. Chessman/Electroshock/Zorro
    5. AAA Cruiserweight Title Tournament Domo de la Muerte – Block A – Participants: Alan Stone/Crazy Boy/Alex Koslov/Laredo Kid/Super Fly/Billy Boy/Escoria/Jack Evans/Extreme Tiger/Teddy Hart/Joe Lider/Nicho el Millionario/Luchador Sorpresa

  13. Yeah, that’ll fix AAA – a new title that doesn’t even have a weight class anyone recognizes to be decided in a match where everyone will do cage dives. ~ROH 2003!

Mystery main eventer should be Shiima Xion. One would assume the other mystery wrestler is Vampiro.

Looks like a solid show overall.

If there really will be a new direction post-Rey De Reyes it’ll be interesting to see how long they go with different main eventers over the Parka/Konnan/Mesias crew. I can’t see it lasting long with the way certain guys crave the spotlight.

  14. Is it too late for one last question for the podcast?

When will the AAA Television Title and/or AAA United States Title be decided?

  15. @KrisZ: Wait, who wins the cage match to move on? The first guy out or the second to last guy out? Either way doesn’t really work.

  16. I’m not Zellner but if they’re going all out to copy ROH’s cage match from 2003 you get eliminated if someone lands on you after a dive off the cage. So the winner is the last guy left who does a dive off the cage.

Or they could do first person to score a pinfall and just have a completely dumb match where guys escape the cage to do dives for no reason eventually leaving only two guys left inside to finish the match.

Either way will be completely hilarious and a great way for lots of guys to risk serious injury for no reason.

  17. It depends on money. Mesias,La Parka Jr,Konnan,Zorro,Manson and Chessman are the top guys because well they the most popular. Let see how the other guys draw.

  18. @USAUSA1: AAA will always draw well as long as they have the regular names so that isn’t the question. This is a promotion that drew a sellout for Parka vs a fake Espectro who got replaced by a complete unknown. Drawing is never going to be a question as long as they regular names are around somewhere on the card.

The challenge is to mix new guys with the usual main event crew to create an interesting mix. They aren’t off to a good start yet b/c by just giving the usual midcard crew a main event match it still sets the stage for the main event crew taking over again whenever they want establishing no connection between the groups. There will be an actual change when we see a main event like Mesias/Aero Star/Laredo Kid vs Chessman/Billy Boy/Jack Evans.

  19. Regarding the match lineup itself, the top 3 matches are listed as “estelar” but the Domo got the top billing so that can change easily although bringing out the cage I would think that would be the main event.

And I think that it will end up like their other Domo matches do to determine the victor.

  20. In fact here is the description.

  21. Excited excited excited so excited about the rey de reyes lol what new ideas will show up in the next days and which bults will be come to do nothing as normal in AAA
