03/08 (in Hawaii): IWRG, 24 person tournament, Puebla, lineups

IWRG (SAT) 02/28 Arena Xochmilco [SuperLuchas #305]
1) Avisman b Eragon
2) Fenix & Miss Gaviota b King Drako & Vampiro Metálico
3) Freelance, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II b Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Fantasma de la Ópera
4) el Hijo del Pierroth, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Tetsuya Bushi b Fantastik, Multifacético, Zatura
5) Fantasma Jr., Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr. DQ Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Cien Caras

Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. ran in to attack the tecnicos in the main event for the DQ, and this turned into a three way battle between the Perros, the Jr. Dinamitas and the tecnicos. Speaking of, Scorpio Jr. showed up with plenty of hair on his head despite losing that hair match the night before. What do you actually gain by not getting your hair cut in that situation? I can’t imagine it’s more than the ill will you receive.

FULL (SAT) 03/07 Parque de Beisbol Hermanos Serdan [La Wagnermania]
1) Cibernetico, Damian 666, Rossy Moreno b Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 [losers advance, qf]
2) El Hijo Del Santo, Olimpico, Super Muneco b Cien Caras Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mascara Sagrada [losers advance, qf]
3) Intocable, Tinieblas Jr., Zumbido b Esther Moreno, Lizmark Sr., Veneno [losers advance, qf]

5) Dos Caras Sr., Huracan Ramirez Jr., LA Park b Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 [losers advance, sf]
6) El Hijo Del Santo, Olimpico, Super Muneco b Intocable, Tinieblas Jr., Zumbido [losers advance, sf]
7) Intocable, Tinieblas Jr., Zumbido b Dr. Wagner Jr., Mascara Ano 2000, Universo 2000 [losers advance, final]
8) Mascara Ano 2000 L Dr. Wagner Jr., Universo 2000 [hair]

I completely forgot about this show, but this was the super indy show Friday’s Arena Puebla show as designed to sort of draw against. 22 men and 2 women split into teams via battle royal, and a Russian roulette tournament from there. Kinda week final two trios – Tinieblas isn’t going down like this, and Intocable and Zumbido are already scheduled for a hair match elsewhere so neither of them are going to lose. In the end, Dr. Wagner took Mascara Ano 2000’s hair. WagnerMania takes this chance to link back to a previous Dinamita hair loss, to the Aguayos.

CMLL (FRI) 03/06 Arena Puebla [SuperLuchas #305]
1) Lady Apache & Sahori b Mima Shimoda & Princesa Sujei
2) Hijo del Fantasma & La Máscara b Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
3) Marco Corleone, Místico, Volador Jr. b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
4) Sombrita L Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Ninja, Pequeño Olímpico, Fantasy, Eléctrico, Tzuki, Bracito de Oro, Último Dragoncito, Sauron, Pierrothito, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Universo 2000, Asturiano [cage, mask]

Mistico got Averno in the third fall of their match and wants a NWA Middleweight title match.

CMLL (SUN) 03/08 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT, MT]
5) Dos Caras Jr., Shocker, Valiente b Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
6) Marco Corleone, Maximo, Toscano b Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano Jr.

No results for the hair match, sadly. Building up next week’s hair match (wait, who scheduled those back to back weeks?), Maximo got Texano with an unseen foul after Texano got away with one last week. Semimain saw Dos again disinterested in anything but the glory, hanging out with the fans during the first fall while his team lost, then stealing the pinfall in the second. Dos was screwing around in the third, but Shocker and Valiente managed to put it together for the win. Is Dos Caras Jr. is pretending to be Dr. Wagner to turn rudo? Those are his moves.

Was at the GALLI show tonight, but didn’t take notes so no detailed recap. (If my anti-ad stance wasn’t so strong/ludicrous, I’d have a revenue stream to replace my broken iPod Touch.) I thought it was good show, and some guys I hadn’t seen there before were pretty good. Fun, but nothing extraordinary.

AAA mentions the post-Rey de Reyes tapings are in Madero on 03/20 and Monterrey on 03/22. The Monterrey one got mentioned on LMdLL a while back, but the Madero was unknown until they mentioned it on TV this week. (Is there a Madero message board I should be reading?) AAA says the 03/20 show will have a domed cage match, but I guess we have to wait to find out who’s inside.

Universal (via SuperLuchas ) has a few more details about the AAA animated movie. It’s still sceheduled to come out at the end of the year (which will give time for at least seven more twists in the Cibernetico/AAA relationship.) Animated Fabi Apache = sold!

As everyone’s noticed, TNA’s promoting a new wrestler named Andromeda, and the visual clues clearly point to Cassandro. TNA has been giving everyone debuting a new name they can own, so this is no surprise. Even though SuperLuchas reiterated that there’s NO deal between Dark Angel and TNA (they’re just talking), I wonder what new name she’d get.

SuperLuchas #305 also has an interview with IWRG head Marco Moreno, who says they were dropped by TVC and TV Azteca due to economic issues on the network side. They’ve taken over the production of the TVC Deportes shows themselves to get back on that network, and are still talking to TV Azteca about perhaps being on there, but say they’re also looking at other options like Sky (which must have it’s own sports network I don’t know about), Cadena 3, or ESPN2.

Box Y Lucha looks back at Black Shadow, who doesn’t get due for his importance in lucha libre history.

Accion’s CMLL highlights were off the semimain, building up the mask/mask match. V5 got the pin with the same abdominal stretch cradle he pinned Blue Panther with, which is probably foreshadowing. AAA had the 3 on 2 main event, with Charly walking off after Konnan to make it 3 on 1. The clip ended with Mesias’ chokeslam pinfall being broken up and Vampiro (back in street clothes, no Guardian Angel gear) brawling with Konnan. WWE clip was actually of their main event.

LuchaWorld has Robert on 52MX 10/20/07 and FSE 10/21/07 and 04/06/03 ACMonterrey and KrisZ’s news update full of stuff I probably won’t remember to write about until much later.

  1. When exactly did Septiembre Negro II become Septiembre Terrorista? Is there any reason for the name change? I don’t think he’s changed his mask.

  2. @Tomk: June of last year, I think. I think I have the SuperLuchas where he explained the change at home, but IIRC, he said he decided to switch to support the 9/11 hijackers. He was wearing a top depicting the plane crashing into the twin towers for a while.

It was suggested that he lost the rights to “Septiembre Negro II” and had to change names, but I think he denied that.

  3. I guess he’s hoping there is another major tragedy at some point soon so he can change his name again and be fresher.

  4. Word on the ByL board is that the Puebla show is airing this Sunday. Their regular show is on Mondays so this is a bonus show.

  5. I watched the Puebla show tonight. The cage match seems to be airing in their normal timeslots, so I’m guessing that the regular show from last week won’t be airing. Cage match was good, but I think the Arena Mexico version was better. Tzuki managed to escape on his own this time, but only after Dorada saved him from the bottom of a pile of rudos. Dorada was pretty much the only person to hit any high spots. Couldn’t quite tell who was busted open, but both Dorada and Sombrita had blood all over their tights by the end of the match.
