5) Extrano b Alma Infernal
6) Skayde b Coloso
7) el Hijo Del Anibal & Huracan Ramirez Jr. DQ Mascara Sagrada & Mr. Mexico
8) Blue Demon Jr. b El Dandy [NWA HEAVY]

From the pictures, this looks like it took place outside the restaurant, under a big tent. Looks like a decent crowd too. Blue Demon won clean, so that may be the end of that. DQ in the semimain was for Mascara Sagrada (back? still? a rudo here) pulling Anibal’s mask.

EAW (THU) 02/19 Gimansio Marcelino Gomzalez [MT, SuperLuchas]
1) Taurocosis b Rafaga
2) Sol Ardiente & Voltron b Maverick & Payasito Luchin

4) Incognito & Turbo b Magno & X-Fly
5) Excalibur, Iron Boy, Luminoso TLDRAW American Rebel, Mike Castillo, The Rocker

7) El Hijo del Solitario & Nieto de Rene Guajardo b Antifaz del Norte & Hator
8) Dr. Wagner Jr., Sangre Chicana Jr., Super Crazy b Black Metal, LA Park, Zumbido

The Two Ring Show! As it turned out from the pictures, the bottom rope on the high ring was at the same height of the top rope in the main ring, so there wasn’t as severe a difference as in some of the pictures. There’s a great picture of it on the link (you can NEARLY make out the URL for the promotion – probably shouldnt’t be news at this point that they have a website), and they apparently had a mjaor league entrance/video boards stuff going on, so this should look good on TV (should it get to TV.) There’s highlights on YouTube, though I can’t find any with them using both rings. I know they’re out there, and not so impressive. Over on DVDVR, Black Metal says they didn’t have any practice working in this setup until they got in the ring for the match, so they just kinda worked around it for a normal match (Park/Wagner brawl, mask match tease, video via WagnerMania.) Anyway, quite the All Star lineup of Whatever Happened To on this show and this promotion is a win if they’ve got people video taping footage of Skayde trainees and it makes it to my comptuer somehow.

IWRG (THU) 02/19 Arena Naucalpan [Al Filo del Ring, Black Terry Jr., SuperLuchas #301]
1) Comando Gama b Keshin Black
2) Hijo del Signo & Judas el Traidor b Comando Negro & Eragon
3) Bushi, Cerebro Negro, Fantasma de la Opera b Chico Che, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Multifacetico, Pendulo, Zatura b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro
5) Dr. Cerebro b Freelance [hair]

These two met as a result of losing that three way match for the Lightweight Title. Looks like it was bloody war. Cerebro Negro, as Dr. Cerebro’s second, hit Freelnace with an object to bust him open in the first fall, but Freelance won that fall. Cerebro Negro tired to do it again in the second fall, but Freelance got the weapon and used it on Dr. Cerebro. Naturally, he was caught for the DQ. Freelance missed a dive, moonsaulting onto the barricade. Dr. Cerebro brought him in and finished him off.

Elsewhere in SuperLucahs, there’s the reoccuring “wrestler tells about occasion where I almost died” interview. This week, it’s Freelance about that match a month ago. He blacked out for two hours and doesn’t remember anything of it, except that referee Reyes Rosas got him home. His parents don’t want him to wrestle any more, because they feel like everything he does is crazy.

Semifinal sets up a trios title match.

4) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) Marco Corleone, Shocker, Toscano vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero

Not a single local. Has that ever happened? If there’s setting up a minis match here, it’s odd to do it on the opener.

IWRG (THU) 02/26 Arena Naucalpan
1) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Judas el Traidor & Nemesis IWRG
2) Eragon, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Araftah, Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro

4) Emilio Charles JR., Fuerza Guerrera, Scorpio Jr. vs el Hijo del Pierroth, Tetsuya Bushi, Toxico DF

Why not put the trios title match on top here?

IWRG (SAT) 02/28 Arena Xochmilco

5) Damian 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Hijo del Cien Caras vs Fantasma Jr., Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr.

Hey, look who’s here. Though it’s not listed, there’s got to be TV for this show, I’d think.

CMLL (SUN) 03/01 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Carlo Roggi vs Acertijo
2) Idolo & Palacio Negro vs Angel del Mal & Drago
3) Metatron & Nube Roja vs Rey Trueno & Valentin Mayo

3) ?, Freelance, Zatura vs Avisman, Fantasma de la Opera, Tetsuya Bushi
4) Head Hunter I & Head Hunter II vs Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.

That probably should be a tag team title match, based on the recent feuds, but it’s possible not offical yet.

CMLL (SUN) 03/01 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Inquisidor & Semental
2) Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico, Ultimo Dragoncito vs Bracito de Oro, Mascarita Dorada, Nino de Acero
3) Flash, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corleone, Mascara Dorada vs Atlantis, Felino, Negro Casas
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Shocker vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Just like Sombrita, last we saw of Bracito de Oro, he was fill out the ranks for the lightweight title tournament. Last we heard, Bracito de Plata was feuding with Mascarita Ano 2000 in a mask match in Cancun (and it sounded like Bracito was losing), so plans have definitely changed. Swelling the ranks for the Puebla cage match?

CMLL Puebla #20 (01/25)

taped 01/19

There’s four matches on this show, but the only one worth talking about is the main event. I’m writing this nearly a month after this episode aired, so it’s lot easier for me to point out in hindsight – as much as Mephisto has his matches, CMLL totally should’ve sent Ephesto to NJPW for the last match. Both guys worked with Sombra in title matches in a short period of time, and Ephesto’s match blew this one away. There was actually a sense of drama, suspense and rising tension level. This was 14 minutes of move, pin, kickout, no one cares because no one believes the match is going to be done yet.

If you’re going to do a final fall as long as this one (nearly 18 minutes on TV, and these shows don’t seem to have much clipping), you can’t just settle for alternating near falls the whole way. After about five minutes of that bit, everyone figures out it’s not going to end until someone tries a usual finish, or a finish from one of the first two falls. The match can’t end before then, because the match never ends until they get to those bits – years of watching wrestling has taught even the most casual fan that. Meanwhile, you’re just doing a whole bunch of stuff that’s immediately irrelevant.

It works better in tag and trios matches, because you can do different combination of guys and build towards the climax there. Here, it was just the same guys, doing the same spots we see in every singles match until they hit the time limit they had in their minds. Near falls are exciting, but not in excess.

CMLL LATV #129 (01/24)

taped 01/16, 01/18

Thinking about it now, there had to be a concerted effort for Mascara Purpura not to do the SSP in a match. He seemed to accidentally do it three times a match not too long ago. Or maybe he just doesn’t trust missing it on purpose? Virus still is up to the task of making matches awesome by himself, and I would’ve totally bought the ringpost armdrag being a CO finish.

The Black Warrior/Mistico feud is kinda weird. Maybe this one was supposed to have a different finish before Warrior’s Mistica went off kilter, but really you had Black Warrior pinning Mistico in week one, and Black Warrior fouling Mistico in week two to end it. It wasn’t even a desperation foul or a cheating but caught foul, it was a “I’m going to make my point THIS way” foul. Warrior totally beat Mistico in a feud?

By the way, if you’re actually watching this show, via me or on the TV, why don’t you send an email to guerrerosdelring@latv.com. I don’t suppose they get tons of mail, so any extra emails supporting the show will probably be appreciated. (Note to self: take own advice)
