01/28: Monterrey, GDL, Dos Leyendas

No Tuesday Arena Mexico results as I write this. CMLL should have it up soon, since they’ve got to promote a show next week.

AAA (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Iron Extreme b Aguila Azteca
2) Epidemius & Poly Star b Dama de Hierro & Rey Imagen
3) Aguila Extrema & Relampago Azul b Ejecutor & Mr. Secuestro
4) Oriental & TDN b Jesse & Yuriko
5) Crazy Boy & Ultimo Gladiador b Histeria & Psicosis II

CMLL (TUE) 01/27 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
5) Dark Angel, Goddess, Lady Apache b Hiroka, La Nazi, Princesa Blanca
6) Marco Corleone & Shocker b Averno & Mephisto

All ten women (including the four in the earlier in a tag match) fought after their match.

Today’s Ovaciones announces CMLL’s Dos Leyendas show will be on March 20th. Salvador Lutteroth is one of the legends, but no word on the second. Ovaciones speculates on a stunning number of possible matches as main events:

– Blue Panther vs Villano V
– Blue Panther vs Villano III
– Terrible vs Marco Corleone
– Dos Caras Jr. vs Ultimo Guerrero
– Mistico vs Averno
– Shocker vs Rey Bcuanero
– Mephisto vs La Sombra
– Volador vs Avenro
– Stuka Jr. & Flash vs Nosferatu & Euforia (YES)

Basically every non-women, non-mini feud from the last three months is a possibility. (It’ll probably be none of these.)

Cassandro debuted on TNA’s Xplosion tapings last night as Satanico del Exotico. Couldn’t Mike Tenay have gone “You know, I think CMLL has a Satanico, perhaps we should pick a different name and not upset them?” Or is that deal still going this week? Because it was only an Xplosion taping, this is probably more a tryout than an offical start with the company. I don’t know how it’d actually work but I hope it will.

Box Y Lucha looks back at Andre the Giant on the Anniversary of his death. You also need to see the classic Apaches photos on the Box Y Lucha foro.

AAA PROLLET (SUN) 02/22 Placio de los Deportes, Tabasco [el heraldo de tabasco]
1) Torbellino vs Skeletor [Costa de Golfo ?, WWA ?]
2) Cadacer Jr. & Vampiro (indy) vs Cadaver I & Yumka [russian roulette]
3) Alex Koslov & X-Pac vs Kenzo Suzuki & Zorro
4) La Parka Jr. & Octagón vs Electro Shock & Konnan [MEX TAG]

I use that title abbreviation so rarely, it looks strange to me and I’m not sure it’s right. I’m also not sure it’s right, because they don’t specifically mention it in the article, just a unnamed title being defended. Also, it’s not right because Konnan is a not a Mexican and shouldn’t be eligible for it. Also strange is having an indy wrestler named Vampiro who’s not AAA’s Vampiro on a show with AAA wrestlers. That’ll be confusing.

01/27: notes

Ovaciones previews tonight’s Arena Mexico card. The big story is if Poder Mexica beats Sagrado, Sombra and La Mascara, they’re probably getting a shot at the Mexican National Trios titles (of which La Mascara is not actually champ – that’s Volador instead.) The article also notes that next week’s show is the Fan Appreciation show, and it kinda needs a main event, so Poder Mexica stands a pretty good shot tonight.

There’s also a note about Metro, who’s mentioned to be a new version of the gimmick (as CMLL’s Hi5 site said), so no Fabian or Neutron. No real speculation about the name, but it’ll probably be obvious quickly.

The newest Box Y Lucha (#2907) has an article with Tony Salazar saying Explosivo is not dead. It was very odd that none of the magazines appeared to report his death, which I figured was because they couldn’t confirm it or overturn it. Looks like they can now. I have idea what may have happened here but would like to read more before saying somthing dumb.

Arena Coliseo Guadalajara announced it’s 2008 awards. It sounds like three people were nominated and the fans got to vote for the winner. Fans love the el Gallo (supposedly)

Novato: Plata (runner ups Rafaga & Palacio Negro)
Wrestler: Gallo (runner ups Atlantis, Blue Panther)
Trio: Averno, Mephisto, Ephesto (Gallo, Stuka Jr., Hijo del Fantasma and Toxico, Malefico, Mascara Magica)
Team: Leon Blanco & Gallo (Texano Jr. & Terrible and Metal Blanco, Palacio Negro)
Rudo: Exterminador (Frayle de la Muerte, Guero Loco)
Tecnico: Gallo (Metal Blanco, Metalik)

Special awards include one for Cien Caras to honor his career. Cien was excited to win and talked about hsi career with MT.

The Torreon Box Y Lucha comission is talking about traveling to shows and tesing new wrestlers to earn their license, which apparently hasn’t been done in years.

Ohtani’s Jacket raves about Black Terry in the Oficials vs Cerebros/Terry DF Trios title match.

and, last Saturday’s Ras de Lona is up

News you can use from it
– Four new women are introduced. Sorta – Lluvia (tecnica) is reintorduced, but we’ve also got Crazy Star as a ruda and Estrella Magica (Luna’s sister) and Star Fire as tecnicas. No sign of Yesca, unless she’s now Star Fire (who does show up in results previously so I dunno.)
– Villano III’s son declares he’s going to be a wrestler. He’s also like 13 so who knows.

Also, schoolkids ask Hijo del Fantasma why he doesn’t go to WWE and if he could take Santo in a fight. There’s probably something actually important that I’ve forgot by now.

2009 AAA TV Chart

Projected Air Date (#873)
Mexico: 02/01
US: 02/21

As with last week, AAA’s posted news bits about the matches but not full results.  And nothing for the opener. EDIT: Full recap is up. What follows is an edited/corrected version of the initial report.

The Dr. Morales article in Reforma was to set up a skit here. Konnan denied he was putting AAA out business, but Vampiro came out to threatent to remove him as owner of the company. He can do that? Why didn’t he do that to start with? Roldan also appeared here, which was supposed to be a surpising return.

Tag team champions were destroyed, to the surprise of none. Nicho went thru a table, Lider took light tubes. Why am I watching this and not Arena Puebla weekly? I am dumb. I am smart enough to finally realize the only reason this group has tag team titles is they need something to hang from a cord so they can have ladder matches.

Abismo Negro had Black Abyss set up for a martinete, hesitated, and Nikki and Teddy broke it up. Zorro got Abismo in a castia for the win. YAY ZORRO. Gronda has a new mask, which is his second in about six appearances.

Guapito was still with the rudos, but turned on them and cost them the match. That was pretty dumb of the rudos. They do seem to partnering Guapito with Elegido.

Atomicos titles are now vacant. Vampiro appeared before the Clowns match to strip them of the titles, saying they were pinned last week because Chessman attacked him last week. It makes no sense reading it, maybe it’ll make more sense watching it.

Mini Abismo pinned Mini Divina with a mask pull at a martinete.

Next taping is 01/31

01/26: Coliseo, GDL

Lizmark Jr., not afraid of ghosts/CMLL
Lizmark Jr., not afraid of ghosts/CMLL

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Ovaciones]
1) Apocalipsis & Ramstein b Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Pólvora, Skandalo b Fabián el Gitano, Hijo del Faraon, Leono
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán b Felino, Vangelis, Virus
4) Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano
5) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker DQ Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Ultimo fouled Dos for the finish. Since they’re matched up again this week, I think they’re setting up a title rematch for the next fan appreciation show here.

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [ESTO, MT, MT (2)]
4) Carlo Roggi b Ebola [hair]
5) Mascara Dorada, Místico, Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero

Rudos ripped up Volador’s mask in the first fall and beat him in the second, but Volador got a ‘rana on Bucanero to win the match. This sets up a title match next Sunday. I thought the special Friday show was supposed to the fan appreciation show, but both articles refer to next Sunday as it. In a followup interview, Volador says 2009 is gong to be his year..

(Reforma via Jazzo) Estrellita will be out six months after undergoing right knee surgery today. She hurt her knee a week ago in a match with Tiffany and decided to just get it fixed after dealing with long term effects of a similiar problem in her left knee.

ESPNDeportes marvels at the Volador, Mistico, Sombra trios.

SuperLuchas looks back at The Killer vs Enrique Vera. Very disappionted we never got the Rellik vs Killer feud. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$! There’s also info about a lucha libre illustration exhbit in Mexico City and the Santo de Mi Devocion project on the 02/07.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches Negro Casas vs Blue Panther from GDL this past August

Over on LuchaWorld, Robert watches some late 2006 & 2007 Arena Coliseo Monterrey and then even more 2007 Arena Coliseo Monterrey. Too much Konan Big for me.
