2009 AAA TV Chart

Projected Air Date (#873)
Mexico: 02/01
US: 02/21

As with last week, AAA’s posted news bits about the matches but not full results.  And nothing for the opener. EDIT: Full recap is up. What follows is an edited/corrected version of the initial report.

The Dr. Morales article in Reforma was to set up a skit here. Konnan denied he was putting AAA out business, but Vampiro came out to threatent to remove him as owner of the company. He can do that? Why didn’t he do that to start with? Roldan also appeared here, which was supposed to be a surpising return.

Tag team champions were destroyed, to the surprise of none. Nicho went thru a table, Lider took light tubes. Why am I watching this and not Arena Puebla weekly? I am dumb. I am smart enough to finally realize the only reason this group has tag team titles is they need something to hang from a cord so they can have ladder matches.

Abismo Negro had Black Abyss set up for a martinete, hesitated, and Nikki and Teddy broke it up. Zorro got Abismo in a castia for the win. YAY ZORRO. Gronda has a new mask, which is his second in about six appearances.

Guapito was still with the rudos, but turned on them and cost them the match. That was pretty dumb of the rudos. They do seem to partnering Guapito with Elegido.

Atomicos titles are now vacant. Vampiro appeared before the Clowns match to strip them of the titles, saying they were pinned last week because Chessman attacked him last week. It makes no sense reading it, maybe it’ll make more sense watching it.

Mini Abismo pinned Mini Divina with a mask pull at a martinete.

Next taping is 01/31

01/26: Coliseo, GDL

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo [CMLL, Ovaciones]
1) Apocalipsis & Ramstein b Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Pólvora, Skandalo b Fabián el Gitano, Hijo del Faraon, Leono
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán b Felino, Vangelis, Virus
4) Black Warrior, Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas b Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano
5) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker DQ Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Ultimo fouled Dos for the finish. Since they’re matched up again this week, I think they’re setting up a title rematch for the next fan appreciation show here.

CMLL (SUN) 01/25 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [ESTO, MT, MT (2)]
4) Carlo Roggi b Ebola [hair]
5) Mascara Dorada, Místico, Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Rey Bucanero

Rudos ripped up Volador’s mask in the first fall and beat him in the second, but Volador got a ‘rana on Bucanero to win the match. This sets up a title match next Sunday. I thought the special Friday show was supposed to the fan appreciation show, but both articles refer to next Sunday as it. In a followup interview, Volador says 2009 is gong to be his year..

(Reforma via Jazzo) Estrellita will be out six months after undergoing right knee surgery today. She hurt her knee a week ago in a match with Tiffany and decided to just get it fixed after dealing with long term effects of a similiar problem in her left knee.

ESPNDeportes marvels at the Volador, Mistico, Sombra trios.

SuperLuchas looks back at The Killer vs Enrique Vera. Very disappionted we never got the Rellik vs Killer feud. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$! There’s also info about a lucha libre illustration exhbit in Mexico City and the Santo de Mi Devocion project on the 02/07.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches Negro Casas vs Blue Panther from GDL this past August

Over on LuchaWorld, Robert watches some late 2006 & 2007 Arena Coliseo Monterrey and then even more 2007 Arena Coliseo Monterrey. Too much Konan Big for me.

WagnerMania loks back at photos of Dr. Wagner Sr.

CMLL on Fox Sports #110 (01/10)

taped 01/02, 01/04; as usual, thanks to ripper.

Still in the Blanca turn. Turns, especially out of the main event, usually mean weeks of lame matches and this was certainly fitting the mold.

Robert and I disagree on Puma/Azteca. I say this in the recap too, but I believe enough that I want to repeat it – either Skandalo/Angel de Oro was (surprisingly) enjoyable, or someone decided to keep faith in the project despite the early returns. This was bad. They may have better matches someday, they may have had better matches the next day, but that doesn’t make this any less bad.

Even putting aside the fan reaction – fans don’t want to give it a chance – most of the guys are coming off not as future stars but as guys who need a lot more time. This time, I think they had more blown spots than minutes shown. This is about as long as the Lagunero bit went, but perhaps they knew things would get better the next week.

Sagrado, Valiente and Mascara Sagrada made it threw a match as a team without anyone dying (that was their fault, anyway – Marcela would be proud of Terrible’s dropkick on Sagrada.) Still, I don’t know if you really want to trust Sagrado to be the solid, safe part of a trio. On the other side, Texano & Terrible are rounding into a fun team that needs to get to do something more.
