01/31: Mexico

CMLL (FRI) 01/30 Arena Mexico [ESTO, Ovaciones]
1) Astro Boy, Hijo del Faraon, Tony Rivera b Apocalipsis, Inquisidor, Pólvora
2) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Rey Cometa b Felino, Vangelis, Virus
3) Princesa Blanca b Marcela [MEX WOMEN]
4) Black Warrior, Blue Panther, Último Guerrero DQ Averno, Mephisto, Villano V
5) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr.

Rudos won the main event when Niebla and Negro yanked Sombra and Volador’s masks and pinned them. Sounds like a tag title match.

Laguneros took the semimain in straight falls when V3 ran in to attack Panther in the second.

Princesa Blanca is the 16th modern champion, and only 2nd since CMLL started using the belt again. Marcela held the belt for near 21 months. There seems to have been some cheating, involving both Mima Shimoda (as Blanca’s second) and even the commission representative, but I’m not clear on what.

Rey Cometa apparently had a quite great dive on his match.

Lineups later, maybe.

Lucha Listen-In Podcast #5: Marco Corleone!

My sit-down interview with luchador Mark Jindrak/Marco Corleone of CMLL Fame, we discuss a series of topics, among them: The prospects of two Koslov(s) in WWE, his awesome ramp and the genesis behind it, Rellik~!, if Perro will ever come back to CMLL, Blue Panther being the older lady’s man choice and QUE MONITO (the midget blue monkey of guerrero kicking fame) all thanks to thecubsfan @ luchablog.com

You can find the show here, and it should be added to the podcast feed. We thank Marco for coming on. We live for comments, so please let us know what you think of the show!

01/30 quick links

SoloLucha via KrisZ has Super Crazy officially saying he’s starting in AAA in March, which had been rumored for a while and picked up when Arturo Rivera said it’d be at Rey de Reyes.

– Both Perro Aguayo Jr. and Marco Corleone appeared on the same Solo Por Muerte celebrity male stripping show. Apparently CMLL said it was okay, since they weren’t wrestling.

Negro Navarro video promo for shows he, Solar and Kendo are doing with some of the CHIKARA crew in March, in Delaware (03/08?) and Philadelphia. This sounds like an awesome idea.

Lucha VaVoom is running in LA tommorow, and gets good press as usual.

Octagon sings on Erendira’s fifth album, “La Pareja Ideal”. I think that’s the album name and Octagon is singing on La Bamba.

– Even Sombra is surprised he’s done so much so quick.

Latin Lover is talking about backing off of wrestling to avoid injury again. This is listed as a new article but may not be.

– SoloLuchas catches up to Black Power and Águila Venezolana (aka Hijo del Diablo)

– El Sol del Hidalgo looks back at 57 years of Arena Aficion. The article notes the arena is old, the first main event was a singles match (Sugi Sito vs Cavernnario Galindo) because tag matches hadn’t been invented yet. Local promoter is blaming recent drops in attendance on TV.

– Over on LuchaWorld, Robert watches bad MVS shows from 09/15&16/07 and a mixed bag of an IWRG show from 09/27/07

Marcela had Amapola beat in the final fall, but Medussa distracted her and Amapola rolled her up for the win. Dark Angel used the ropes to beat La Nazi.

FILL Roll Call of Champions

FILL is back to promoting Arena Coliseo Monterrey shows, and announced it’s recognized champions

Super Heavy: Pancho Tequila
Heavy: vacant (Rayo de Jalisco Jr. no longer champ)
Light Heavy: Hator
Welter: Huracan Ramirez Jr.
Light: Angel de Oro
Tag: Diluvio Negro I & II (though later in the thread, it’s suggested to be the Difuntos instead)
Female: La Bandida

The idea is, from now on, only title matches in ACM will be legal – they’ve been turning up elsewhere (including in La Laguna), but now they’re going to be serious, or at least as serious as they get around here. Those who keep track of Monterrey title changes are still recommended to find better uses of their time.
