12/31: IWRG, Neza, Mexico, Rellik, CMLL Minis

CMLL
CMLL

IWRG (THU) 12/25 Arena Naucalpan [The Gladiatores]
1) Imperio Azteca b Soldado del Diablo
2) Eragon & Halcon 2000 b Anticristo Jr. & Avisman
3) Jack, Pendulo, Zatura b Capitán Muerte, Trauma I, Trauma II
4) Freelance b Tetsuya [IWRG IC LIGHT]
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Both title matches had clean finishes. 911 got Black Terry with the backcracker (and everyone proceeded to challenge everyone else for everything.) Freelance got a win with a huracanrana.

AAA (FRI) 12/26 Gimnasio Municipal San Luis [bajo el sol]
1) Abismo Negro, Joe Lider, Rocker b Histeria, Konnan, Psicosis

Konnan stole the show, according to the recap. I wish he’d give it back.

CMLL (FRI) 12/26 Arena Neza [thegladiatores]
1) Cazador & Gatubelo b Chavo Banda & Skayde Jr.
2) Black Thunder & La Abeja b Insecto & Rayo Tapatío I
3) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeno Ninja b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
4) Chacmol b Ramstein and Hermano Muerte III and Hermano Muerte II and Tiger Kid and Puma King and Cocolores and Tony Rivera and Starman and Carta Brava [Copa Neza]
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Máximo DQ Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
6) Dos Caras Sr., Místico, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

Clean win in the main event. As noted before, this looks like a sellout. I was wondering if Neza was dead for good, but I guess there’s hope. (Speaking of Mistico’s drawing power – hugo999 only posted partial results for Arena Puebla, but it looks like Mistico sold the place out.)

Sangre fouled Maximo. Those two have issues lately.

Chacmol took Cocolores mask and pinned him for the win. They’ll have a mask/hair match tomorrow. First two matches are heavy with Skayde trainees.

indy (SUN) 12/28 Gimnasio el Ranchero [El Siglo de Torreon]
1) Cadetes de la Atlantida I & Piloto Negro b Insolito & Rey Dragon
2) Brillante & La Calakita b Mensajero de la Muerte & Super Leopardo
3) Pequeno Maximo b Dragoncito, Pentagoncito
4) Misterioso II b La Sombra, Stuka Jr., Piloto Negro, Ephesto, Hooligan, Piloto Suicida, Semental [cibernetico]

Misterioso is the best Lagunero wrestler in CMLL! Kinda. The Pilotos filled in after CMLL had better things for Angel de Oro & Guerrero Inca to do (impossible). Eliminations went Piloto Negro, Semental, Hooligan, Epehsto, Stuka Jr., La Sombra. Piloto Suicida nearly won Best of CMLL without actually be in CMLL, but Misterioso won. Perhaps with a little bit of cheating. Piloto Negro thought so, and challenged to a mask versus hair match for this Saturday. Misterioso agreed. No, you’re not allowed to add this to the wiki yet.

CMLL (TUE) 12/30 Arena Mexico [ESTO, box y lucha]
1) Calígula & Méssala b Sombra de Plata & Trueno
2) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Yezca b La Seductora, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Warrior
4) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca b La Mascara, Sagrado, Valiente
5) Último Guerrero DQ Volador Jr.

UG fouled Volador and faked a foul while the ref was done. Ref turned around and figured The Champ was in the right. As noted in the comments, La Mascara was announced in Dos’ place on Monday. It does seem like something’s up with Dos.

CMLL (TUE) 12/30 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [mt]
6) Hijo del Fantasma, Máximo, Shocker b Atlantis, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero

In the third fall, Rey eliminated Fantasma with a foul, but Shocker managed to eliminated Negro Casas with ‘rana and Maximo got Rey clean with a plancha. Maximo challenged for a title match.

AAA announced Rellik is gone. Kinda could tell this coming with the weekly “Rellik is not getting over” comments in the WON, given the source. Also, that his whole bit is “wearing a scary mask”, which doesn’t quite stick out the same in Mexico. Konnan is dutiful teasing a new member.

As suspected, CMLL decided to change the lineup for the big minis cage match on 01/11 – by adding everyone wearing a mask. This gives us:

AAA
AAA

Tzuki
Ultimo Dragoncito
Cosmico
Electrico
Pequeno Fantasy
Pierrothito
Mini Universo 2000
Pequeno Warrior
Mascarita Dorada
Nino de Acero
Pequeno Ninja
Mini Olimpico
Shockercito

Poll to come? I think Mini Universo is the ‘favorite’.

AAA also posted their guys on PWI 500 as part of it’s look back at the year. This was almost interesting when it first came out back in August Actually, the entertaining thing here is all the Perros del Mal guys are included on AAA’s list (not listed as AAA guys, just ‘independent people of note’), except for Hijo del Perro. Way to stir things up! Halloween’s listed as an AAA wrestler, FWIW.

El Sol de Cuautla has a look back at the year. El Impracial writes about the year in Oaxava’s Arena Ray Alcantara.

Okumura is interviewed about his debut anniversary, 14 years ago today. Okumura recommends avoiding the tequila tonight.

Ovaciones has a story about Juvi opening a lucha libre academy. Juvi is no fool; he’s recruited his dad, Skayde, Negro Navarro and Solar to teach there.

AAA points to an interview with Octagon on Terra. Octagon says one of his daughters is training, and the more he wrestles, the more he wants to keep wrestling. Must explain why he hasn’t been on TV lately.

The Nuevo Laredo Association of Sports is including Tito Santana and Street Boy in their annual Cronica de Oro awards.

Hablando de Catch has photos from the opening of Solar’s store.

Vicky Palacios, former girlfriend of Konnan, talks about how great she is, mentioning she’ll be Queen of Lucha Libre next year.

SuperLuchas looks back at the Blue Panther vs Love Machine in a mask match.

Ohtani’s Jacket watched Satanico vs Atlantis from 1984 and Santo/Dandy/Silver King vs Negro Casas/Satanico/Apolo Dantes from 1996.

3) Blue Panther & Neutrón vs Malefico & Satánico
4) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Atlantis, Dragon Rojo Jr., Negro Casas

Hey, look whose knee is feeling better. I thought we were supposed to be getting a trios title match here, but Ultimo Guerrero apparently had things to do? Cibernetico doesn’t have anything on the line, so they’re probably setting something out of it. This is the monthly Fan Appreciation show.

CMLL (TUE) 01/06 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Posedion vs Virgo
2) Sileuta vs Magnifica
3) Metal Blanco vs Rey Trueno
4) Magnum vs Infierno
5) Leon Blanco & Máscara Mágica vs El Gallo & Satánico
6) Blue Panther, La Máscara, La Sombra vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
7) Rey Bucanero vs Máximo [CMLL LH]

That would be a travesty of justice.

Either the fifth is an undeclared parajes increibles match or the sides are wrong. Gallo/Satanico story isn’t over either way.

See you next year.

AAA #865 (12/20)

taped 11/17, aired 12/20

The end of the year has turned me (more?) grouchy, as it usually does. So let me try and flip and say only positive things about AAA for these posts:

– Billy & Gato & Apache vs Poder del Norte got 6 minutes, which is 2 more than I figured

– Making Super Fly the straight man to La Parka is actually an effecive way of getting Super Fly over, covering for his weakness and allowing Super Fly to cover for Parka in the wrestling department. Plus, less Octagon having matches!

– It’s nice to see DMEX actually have matches

– It’s nice to know I’m supposed to abbreviate them DMEX (or maybe D-Mex)

– Zorro is so untouchable that being treated like a jobber against Latin Lover (in between Konnan interference spots) shouldn’t affect him

– I can actually believe Konnan’s not booking this place, because no one would write themselves as dumb as Konnan is on these tapings.

CMLL on Televisa #903 (12/13)

taped 12/12, aired 12/13

Leyenda de Azul was good, more notable for how the rudos flagrantly broke the rules. Terrible winning did seem to mean something. It seemed so set up for Marco to get the big win, since he had been dominating the match, and so the Texano low blow and Terrible pin really did feel like the rudos were stealing something rather than just a finish. Avernos needed the win more.

UG/Mistico was the high notes of the usual match, just enough to set up the big angle, which in turn sets up – uh. Didn’t set up anything, did it? More like just a way to get out of the match that’s not the usual match.
