12/07 Arena Mexico preview

CMLL (SUN) 12/07 Arena Mexico
1) Hijo del Faraon & Tony Rivera vs Apocalipsis & Holligan
2) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Warrior vs Nino de Acero, Pequeno Ninja, Pequeño Olímpico
3) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Sangre Azteca
4) La Sombra vs Ephesto [NWA WELTER]
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Toscano vs Black Warrior, Misterioso II, Ultimo Guerrero
6) Héctor Garza & Místico vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]

This’ll probably be the best show of the weekend – every match has a chance to be good – and likely the most attended because of the prices and the size of the building. CMLL judges itself by how many people are in the building, so they’re liable to be happy, but I suspect they’ll be as or more interested in how much they hurt the Perros show and who gets more press.

Based on the feud, the tecnicos should win the main event, since the rudos have dominated them. Based on the direction of the promotion (as best as one can be determined), the rudos should win to cement their new status and give CMLL a ready made storyline for when they feel like starting things up in the spring (tag rematches all over the place.) I’ve waffled back and forth on this and I think I’m leaning towards new champs (the best thing you can do to elevate a guy is make him the forth in a Mistico vs Averno/Mephisto match) but I may change my mind three more times.

Semimain has no hype and probably should, since we’ve got the storylines of the Laguneros against Panther as well as Toscsano facing UG after turning tecnico. (Dos is just here. Probably thinking he had better things to do.) I’d love if this match ended with a clear direction – the end of the Laguneros concept, something with the Guapos vs the Guerreros, maybe even the end of the Guerreros – but I’m not holding my breath. It’s likely just to be a match, a match that ends on DQ via rudo foul.

Sombra vs Ephesto should be a Sombra showcase and I refuse to consider any other possibility.

Both three matches are just the usual stuff. I suspect all the guys on the left side winning, and it’s still funny they changed the opener just to get ‘bigger stars’ on the show. I hope Sangre Azteca isn’t being set up join Pesta Negra here, because he’d be no better off there.

  1. Sombra retained and early indications are the building was jam packed.

I believe all eyes now focus on if Perrito and Wagner and Ciber could even squeeze 3,000 fans into their building, not to mention what AAA drew in Orizaba with no competition yesterday.

  2. More pictures came in, especially of the main event. Looked like it filled up a bit more but those empty bleacher seats still remained.

Like I said a week ago though – there is no excuse for those show to have not sold out. Any Wagner fanboy or Perrito fanboy or Ciber fangirl can come here and present a laundry list of excuses as to why the show didn’t sell out and I’d accept none of them. You had three guys who all claim to be the biggest star in all of Mexico, you had tons of promotion and you only had 3,000 seats to fill. For a guy (Perrito) who claims he can sell out Arena Mexico (18,000) on his own, a guy who has proven he can sell out any AAA taping on his own (Ciber) and a guy who thinks he is the next coming of christ (Wagner) – there is NO EXCUSE to not have been able to fill all those seats.

The real fun starts now when the blame game begins. Or maybe they’ll wait a week till Mistico smokes them in Guadalajara next Sunday.

I smell another Wagner march coming up…

  3. How much were the tickets? I didn’t expect it to sell out anyways and Ciber will probably be back with AAA next month. Now the story will be where will Perro go? Probably back to CMLL because I don’t believe Paco when he says Perro and Wagner is on the “Santo list”. If/when Mistico gets injured again, You know Wagner will be back in a heartbeat.

  4. Our first excuse is in:

“SI NO SE LLEN´O LA ARENA FUE POR UNA SIMPLE RAZ´ON… SEMIFINAL SANTOS CONTRA TOLUCA.”

The soccer game only effects Perrito’s show you see, not the Arena Mexico show.;)

BTW it also appears there are new tag champs.

  5. The game was over at 2, Arena Mexico started at 5:30… a better xcuse would be that people was busy at home watchin AAA.

    That is jam Packed?

Estimates… Record says 3500 for Sala de Armas and I guess 4000 for ArMex (with prices 70% cheaper). So ArMex was “packed”… compared to the 2000 they’re doing normally on Fridays. They didn’t even opened the two top decks (and the bottom wasn’t sold out either)

The worse thing for Aguayo is that they didn’t brought any real surprise, Olimpico and Head Hunter are like pulling up a Gronda and Animal in AAA. I think Corleone was wanting to jump there (not to AAA as sololuchas had said) but thought it better, same for Latin Lover and Abismo Negro who actually were there a couple of months back but decided to go back to AAA. And Mesias and Chessman were also thought to be jumping but… remained in AAA as well, looks as if Aguayo has not real $$$ backing him up so he couldn’t get jumps, even though AAA is well known to be paying very little and CMLL is almost at that level now.

Worse news is that PPdM has already had shows canceled and their next stop will be in Monumental, a place where no indy/cmll show has pulled up above 2000 people in years.

  7. That is a darkened picture from a terrible angle of a spot from the main event.

You shouldn’t say “worse thing for Aguayo” b/c whatever happens with that promotion reflects on Wagner and Ciber as well. Those were supposed to be three guys who could carry things on their own. Turns out all three combined can’t even do business.
