This was bad and pointless. The opener was edited painfully as usual, the ladder match was actually worse than usual (hard to believe) and the main event was subpar and boring to watch.
I was one who wanted AAA to go to two hours, but these are not the shows I had in mind.
There’s an article in the latest Reforma, referenced here on Box Y Lucha, saying that Mistico is complaining about being overused. I do agree with his point, but the numbers given (13 of the last 15 shows, 9 of the last 11) are false.
(FRI) 11/07 Arena Mexico – 5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

(SUN) 11/30 Arena Coliseo – 5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Místico
(TUE) 12/02 Arena Mexico – 5) Hijo del Fantasma, Místico, Shocker DQ Averno, Mephisto, Texano Jr.
(FRI) 12/05 Arena Mexico – 5) Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone, Místico vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
(SUN) 12/07 Arena Mexico – 6) Héctor Garza & Místico vs Averno & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
That’s 9 of 14 (or 15, if you throw in the previous Tuesday show; maybe it’ll be 10 of 15 when Tuesday’s lineup comes out) and 8 of the last 11. It’s not a big deal that those numbers are wrong, but it’s so easy to get them right and so obviously wrong (how could he be on 13 of 15 if this was his first Tuesday show?) that I wonder if it was a typo or if there’s another arena being counted here.
Anyway, the point remains solid. There was no real sense using him this past Tuesday, except they wanted their fan appreciation shows to pack the house and he’s the only guy they trust to do it. Even if it worked (no attendance guess), they’re burning him out. The bigger problem is running Mistico on top five straight Fridays. That’s unusual overuse, and it’s bound to be six since next week is the last week for these shows. (And it might be seven if they want to train people to go to Coliseo on the 19th.)
Five seems like an awful unusually high number. Most guys are either off a week, or down to the semimain while another feud takes center stage. There are no non-Mistico top feuds going in CMLL at the moment, and they’re squeezing Mistico for all he’s worth. Perhaps to some sort of historic level? Five times in a row seems like an awful lot. I decided to research it a bit: Read More
IWRG (SUN) 11/30 Arena Naucalpan [the gladiatores]
1) Shuriken b Imperio Azteca
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II b King Drako & Nemesis (IWRG)
3) Judas el Traidor , Masada, Tetsuda b Goleador, Jack, Pendulo
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro [super libre]
5) Pendulo, Scorpio Jr., Tinieblas Jr. DQ Head Hunter I, Máscara Año 2000, Veneno
Pendulo replaced Dr. Wagner Jr. That’as a bit of a drop off. MascaraY2K distracted one ref, but got caught fouling Scorpio by the other ref for the DQ. That same referee, Reyes Rosas, refused to leave the ring in the semimain to allow that match to take place under super libre rules (ref outside the ring, only leaning in to count pinfalls) and had to be replaced by a different referee. There’s an angle here, I just don’t get it.
A couple more articles trickling out from yesterday’s stuff
– Averno says he doesn’t want to be considered the leader of the group that’s named after him. Don’t think that’s going to work. Ovaciones says he IS the leader, so this is not clear. What is worth knowing is they expect to add more members and never to know defeat. I guess losing by DQ is not knowing defeat?
– Mictlan says he’s happy to get a big win, despite coming in with an injury suffered on Friday. He’s up for whatever CMLL has for him next, though he’d like to demask Dragon Rojo someday.
– Loco Max was sad he lost to the ‘dancer’, but also that he hurt his ribs during the match.
(SuperLuchas) The NWA is not officially recognizing Sunday’s NWA Welterweight title match between Sombra and Ephesto. Which is the same as it’s been since at least 1991.
Leading up to Lucha Libre London, wrestling101.com has a really good interview with Mascarita Sagrada. He was not a fan of lucha libre growing up, he was a fan of martial arts and just happened to see some people practicing wrestling when he was working out one day and decided to try it as a hobby. Lots of talk about the Juniors Division, other Mascarita Sagradas and his career.
There’s a lucha libre show in Chile next Sunday. They drew 3,000 for their premiere show, and tickets are going from $2000 to $6000 Chilean pesos. (That’s $3 to $9US)
