Catching up here, this was the last week of a strong La Laguna As Tecnicos push. I watched this and the next week’s TV on back to back days, and it was striking how all of that was completely moved past for Mistico’s return. Part of that might be because of how not-over it was, but there’s a lot of missing week to week planing. There’s no reason to be re-introducing Averno, Mephisto and Ephesto as the Triad of Terror if you know you’re going to add Texano & Terrible to the group the following week and change the name. You’re left to assume they didn’t know what was coming.
The nice thing about being 17 days behind in posting these is the matches where they were clearly just doing a screwjob finish to do a screwjob finish and not because they had any plans for it – like Corelone/Niebla – stick out even more. It seemed like the idea for this week was to set up V3 vs Blue Panther to get Panther a rehab win, but that seems to be as equally dropped. Probably for the best; rehabbing Panther is fruitless at this point.
I don’t know if it’s CMLL or Televisa making the decisions, but whichever needs to do a better job of highlighting the storylines. It doesn’t matter how many they’re doing if they’re treated as non stories. The Triad/Perros shirt ripping storyline was just a 5 second clip in the midst of some replays, shown from far away and never replayed again. The finish to that match, with Sombra/Dragon Rojo falling apart as a team, should’ve led into a big plug for next Tuesday’s title match with those two but did not seem to. I don’t pay close enough attention to the announcers to know if they’re getting this storylines over themselves, but from what I’ve heard when I have listened in, it’s quite unlikely.
