AAA #856 (10/25)

taped 09/21, aired 10/25

Everything but the main event felt clipped. Well, maybe not the Electro match, that went on forever. I’m not sure why you have Tirantes do rudo bits there, but there are many things beyond my understanding going on in that feud. I think it’s worth noting that when Super Fly got the Miracle Pin ‘Rana on again, there was no “oh my god, he’s actually going to win” reaction. Crowd didn’t care.

Mixed tag was okay, but the tecnico/rudo bit is getting confused. Maybe they’re trying for rudo/rudo and it just didn’t come across well, because that may be the best way to do this feud now.

Vamp got no offense and got pinned clean. AAA knew he was on the way out, even if Vamp didn’t, and give him credit for taking the pinfalls on the way out.

You can have 200 wins and still get destroyed. I did think the match was as fun as anything here

Upon future review, it looks like Cibernetico won the main event. I don’t know why he won the main event, but that’s what Piero went with. From watching the TV, it seems like they were hinting at the Dark Family reunification but haven’t done it. I’ll have to wait and see, but it comes more off like a swerve (perhaps even planned!) than a plan to reunite the group and then a complete switch to break them up.

IWRG, home to millions

IWRG has run (or announced) 92 shows this year. This is a one day a show promotion, and they only really need about 24 wrestlers a show (a singles opener, a tag segunda, and trios from there is standard.)

IWRG has used 240 different wrestlers. There’s probably some I’m double counting because of name changes or spelling variations I didn’t weed out, but 240 is a huge number. If they brought everyone back just once more (and they do have two more months), they could go all of November without repeating a wrestler.

CMLL, counting both Arena Mexico shows and Arena Coliseo shows, has used only 172 wrestlers for 135 shows.

AAA TV tapings have used around 159 for 40, though there’s some noise there, including dark matches wrestlers who don’t actually make the TV. I’d count how many wrestlers appeared on TV, but I tried and crashed the query engine. So I’m going go watch TV or something.

11/03 Puebla, 11/02 & 11/04 GDL Lineups

Shockercito in flight/CMLL
Shockercito in flight/CMLL

Hot off the presses, figured I might as well get put these up today. Pictures/Results are up from Tuesday in Arena Mexico on CMLL’s site too.

couldn't decide what picture to use

Main is a rematch of the Corona final. Ciber is listed as tecnicos (led by Garza) vs rudos (led by Misterioso).

CMLL (TUE) 11/04 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Plata vs Fralie de la Muerte
2) Nube Roja vs Ebola
3) Idolo vs Egipcio
4) Metatron vs Exterminador
5) Rayman vs Angel Blanco Jr.
6) Malefico & Toxico (GDL) vs Metalik & Valiente
7) Dos Caras Sr. & Marco Corelone vs Mr. Niebla & Último Guerrero

Perhaps Dos will be working a lot here, so CMLL can fufill his promised dates without letting him work in DC?

10/30: Damain & Aguila, IWRG, links

RFC says, according to his source, Damian 666 and Mr. Aguila met with CMLL officials yesterday and decided to leave the promotion. This conflicts with what Damian said earlier this week.

IWRG (FRI) 10/24 Arena Naucalpan [the Gladiatores]
1) Halcon 2000 & Super Hallcon Jr. b Avisman & Soldado Diablo
2) Miss Gaviota & Zatura DQ Judas el Traidor & Nemesis IWRG
3) Eragon, Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Ghost Rider
4) Freelance, Jack, Pendulo b Oficial 911, Oficial AK-47, Oficial Fierro [lumberjack strap]
5) Máscara Año 2000 & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. b Arlequin & Hijo de Pierroth IWRG and Solar I & Super Astro and Latino & Multifacético

So the storyline here is Dr. Cerebro was so hurt by the piledriver one of the Gemelos gave him last week, he was unable to compete (though he did run in on that tercera) and they pushed the big mach back a week. Main event had MA2K Sr. steal Arlequin’s mask for the pinfall win. Nemesis took Zatura’s mask in the second match.

LA Park replaces Perro Jr. in the SLP show next week.

AAA notes:
Konnan takes over AAA on 11/15.
– Coincidentally, AAA’s press release on Cibernetico’s departure says it doesn’t take affect until after the 11/15 taping.
Sergio Mayer slipped on a drink and sprained his knee after interfering in the cage match. Even though you’d figure it was going this way, both Mayer and Latin Lover seem to think a match between them would be dumb, because Mayer isn’t a wrestler.

SoloLuchas has a number of interviews I’ve neglected to link to

– IWRG’s Zatura talks about all he was before being IWRG’s Zatura. His father was a wrestler (Misterio Blanco) and he was drafted into wrestling a minis match at age 12. Zatura started as Gallito Sureno, had a brief stint with CMLL as Piloto Fantasma (can’t find a record – dark match, I presume), stopped wrestling for 3 years and was working as gym instructor when Chico Che talked him into wrestling again.

Angel O Demonio talks about hitting 25 years of wrestling. He notes he never really got hurt much doing normal lucha libre, but after wrestling hardcore matches for the last five years, he’s had injuries to an Achilles, a shoulder, his forehead, and lots of scaring. Funny how that works.

Super Parka talks about his upcoming NWA Mexico match. The best wrestler in the family might not be him, might not be Volador Jr. – Super Parka’s daughter is amateur wrestler, headed to St. Luis next week for a tournament.

Solar I is opening a story on 11/15. There’s a guy Konnan needs to sign.

Karloff Lagarde has nothing new/interesting to say.

– bio of Oro

Kcidis has a cartoon of Astro de Oro

Blue Demon is giving up presidency of NWA Mexico. A new president is supposed to be announced sometime today.

indy (FRI) 10/31 Arena Monumental Monterrey [superluchas]
1) Pedro Navajas & Turbo vs Black Thunder & PeeWee
2) Dralion vs Nightmare, Lord Byron [extreme]
3) Negro Navarro vs Black Terry
4) Hijo de Rey Misterio & Rayman vs Angel Blanco Jr. & Super Parka
5) Blue Demon Jr. vs Konnan Big

NWA Title not on the line.

Luchaworld has Robert on IWRG from 04/27/06, 05/05/06 and 05/11/06, as well as KrisZ‘s news update.
