Other people not going anywhere at least until 2009: Black Warrior, who refutes the rumors about him, but only for the next three months or so. Unlike the guy who runs the promotion he works for, Black Warrior thinks the boom is falling apart! Smart dresser = smart man. Warrior thinks it’s because of lack of variety in matches and little follow up on rivalries, but specifically does not blame the programmers – they succeed as a whole company or they fail as a whole company. TeleviasDeportes has a column from Warrior, who talks about finding out his uncle was a wrestler and all the sports he participated in as an amateur.
Not doing anything until 2009: Mistico. SickMistico on the Box Y Lucha foro was nice enough to type up the story from Box Y Lucha, where Mistico says he won’t return until Janurary now due to (as Chui said in the comments) a girl tugging on his arm asking for an autograph. That probably means he wasn’t going to be around long before he got hurt again anyway, if it only took that to put him on the shelf. Mistico makes time to cut promos on Wagner (can’t draw) and Villano V (Mistico is SURE there was a switch in the mask match).
Ovaciones reports on WWE RAW being moved to after AAA on Sundays (though they actually list it with the current time slot, so I’m confused.) They also say this starts next week, while AAA said it starts this week. They cite ratings for RAW being less than SmackDown, though it doesn’t seem to explain why moving it two hours later would help those ratings. Arturo Rivera’s column goes more in depth, saying this week’s lucha ratings went in order
1) SmackDown
2) RAW
3) AAA
4) CMLL
Arturo doesn’t mention the ratings for the top two shows, but says AAA is around a 6.9 or 7, and CMLL is around a 3 or 4. No idea how close AAA is to RAW, which would be of most interest. These are first week ratings, so it’d also be interesting to see if it’s a big bump for the premier or if these numbers start to slip. The lucha numbers don’t seem that off from usual (perhaps Arturo just meant those are the typical numbers), and it’s always important to remember that the only number CMLL appears to care about is the number of tickets sold on Friday nights.
Arturo also writes about the Pena urn angle, thanks CMLL for so underusing Romero that he jumped while patting AAA on the back for Aerostar and Super Fly pushes, and blames CMLL for their own downturn in attendance.
LuchandoLibre also takes the viewpoint that the decline in lucha libre turnout has more to do with the companies than what’s on TV and comes up with some solutions.
SuperLuchas talks about 100% Lucha and notes their ratings triple WWE’s show there.
Dr. Wagner: “Remember back when is said I wasn’t intersted in teaming with Blue Panther? I’m rethinking it!” Panther has to stay on top, fight with courage and connect with the people for Wagner to do this, though. Wagner also wants a mask match with Mr. Niebla.
CMLL Mexico previews: ESTO, notimex. Main event is teasing the Panther/UG hair vs mask match they don’t appear to have any real interest in doing, semimain is to build up Lizmark/Corelone for next week. The ESTO articles notes tickets for next week are already on sale. They’re 50 pesos more expensive for the closest seats and up for all the numbered seats, but the same price for all the general admission seats.
Diraio de Queretaro previews tonight’s taping there.
The 8 way mask match Sunday in Pachuca is getting some press. This is why you send a press release to everyone (except me, apparently. So unloved.)
In a press conference to hype a Durango AAA show on Sunday (“unless they die or are injured, the scheduled AAA wrestlers will be here”), Pantera is mentioned as soon joining AAA. He talks about having a mask/hair match with Abismo Negro soon, so I don’t know much I believe this.
AAA is teasing Shelly Martinez (ex-WWE as Ariel, ex-TNA as Salinas) as the newest member of D-Generation-Mex. As everyone noticed except AAA, and SuperLuchas caputured in a screen shot, the article originally featued a picture of WWE’s Mickie James, not Martinez. And it was a WWE picture, which they’re surely not authorized to use. The picture has been fixed so someone did figure it out. I do wonder if this is just like the Shocker/Olimpico/Tarzan/Bucanero bit, where they’re stirring up stuff by playing off rumors and end up doing something else.
In other AAA news, there’s a write up of the Pena mass, which oddly notes 70% of the roster turned out. SoloLucha has interviews with Marcela Pena and Konnan – Konnan’s vowing to smoke Pena’s ashes if his demands aren’t met.
AAA also mentions Psicosis II’s opponent in Germany on 11/01, Steve Douglas, and says Silver King is working on another movie, one which doesn’t appear to have a name. AAA also has more autograph signing over the weekend.
The Gladiatores also has recaps of 10/02 IWRG, indy shows on 10/03 featuring Mil Mascaras and Villano V, the NWA Mexico show, 10/05 Arena Neza, 10/05 Arena Emiliano Zapata and 10/05 Waukegan as well as a write up on the lucha libre museum exhibit and a video interview with Danger
kcidis celebrates the Oficials.
SuperLuchas profiles Samot Kol, who a best new rudo award.
The red carpet premiere of Los Campeones de la lucha libre is this Sunday (SuperLuchas was giving away tickets there), and it opens next Friday.
LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update. Segunda Caida writes about a July 2007 IWRG.

I saw RAW did 7.1 at some guy’s blog, AAA was said to have it’s worst last hour in years as it overlapped with the Azteca and Televisa main shows of the week, which happens to attract the same audience AAA does, so I think the switch will help both AAA and WWE, WWE will counter program the reality shows and they might get some viewers from AAA, instead of how it turned out, that had people tunning in to watch AAA but finding RAW.
Still, RAW’s rating is bound to go down as TVC has now started their broadcasts, so by Sunday, many guys would have seen it already. Smackdown might suffer from not having Mysterio, but at least they’re not that far behind.
Ovaciones says the change in timeslot starts on Oct 12, that is, the day after tomorrow. The “next” or “this” thing might have to do with ISO saying the week goes from Monday to Sunday, but the Roman Catholic tradition saying it goes from Sunday to Saturday. So this Sunday would be the first day of the “next week” for some, or the last day “of this week” for others.
Based on what Rivera wrote, I don’t think he knows the ratings for Raw and Smackdown.
We all knew that it would not take long for Televisa to start dicking WWE’s timeslot around. But I didn’t think it would start after just one week.
I don’t think one week of WWE on Azteca is hurting CMLL. CMLL is hurting CMLL with booking that just isn’t interesting. Weak feuds like Corleone vs. Lizmark.
If Rivera is so cocky about CMLL attendance being down, maybe AAA should make a move to establish a presence in the country’s biggest market.
A few weeks ago, CMLL booking “delivered the big match”, “come of looking good”, “everyone is talking about them”, etc, and now “just isn’t interesting”.
With RAW at 17:30, we’ll see if it affects the Sundays Coliseo which start just at that hour, AAA ending at 19:30 did affect their tapings which usually start at 18:00 on Sundays.
That was a few weeks ago. Now, their top feud is Marco vs. Lizmark, Mistico and Perro are hurt, and there are no promising feuds for the next few months.
And how stupid of CMLL to leak that a girl pulling on Mistico’s arm……..God, I just can’t imagine how stupid CMLL is for this one. He now looks like a sissy.
Well, Dos might be leaving too. His loss will just hurt CMLL in terms of perception, even though he didn’t seem to be a draw.
@xuisaw: no, this is me forgetting what day it is. Thanks anyway.
@LLL: it wasn’t CMLL who leaked it, it was Mistico saying it in an interview.
Then Mistico is a fool. God forbid he has to common sense not to say what he said.
Obviously CMLL is setting up Mistico vs the little girl in a mask vs hair match which Mistico will lose and CMLl will be praised for “delivering the big match”, “doing something unexpected” and “getting everyone talking”.
Something is up with these CMLL lineups since the matches have been switched two weeks straight now with no notice which is rare.
Valiente/Virus were taken out tonight and replaced with Stuka Jr./Dragon Rojo Jr.
Unless Valiente was moved up to replace someone in the semi-main who got promoted to the main if Dos Jr. isn’t working? I dunno.
SoloLuchas is doing live coverage.
@Rob: looks like the changes were to get the right people in the building for a Lagunera angle. More in the morning.
Chui is gonna love it.
Fuck. I love it. That could lead to some good matches and actual chances for some talented guys who haven’t gotten any.
@Rob: I think pwinsider reported today that Dos is in WWE.
pwinsider is what?
They already had announced Panther, Ultimo and Ephesto for Tuesday, didn’t they? Maybe they could call them “Los Surianos”.
Too bad they’ll go against those interchangeable fatties and older than old Villanos XXL and III.
I watched Smackdown (kinda), why is it only 1:45? I was more interested in the commercials, looks like usual stuff, when Big Brother was brought aboard, many of the main announcers did in fact kept away from it, nothing happened this time. Corona even had some watermark logos during the show. It looked like too Diva oriented, and I was kind of disappointed by them, they don’t really show much, one gets to see much more skin in Mexican morning shows (like Muevete). Also, it seems that the pan scan thing to fit the old tv sets make everything look into a extreme close up, or is that how it is supposed to be?
Smackdown can be 1:45 yet it’s complete. If the total running time is 88:00 minutes with :32 for commercials, it’s possible that Azteca just used about 15 or 16 minutes. Did the commercial breaks seem short?
@Rob: All of which, CMLL accomplished with Panther vs. Villano. Some say the show received unprecedented media coverage, with non-sports newspapers on the level of The New York Times covering the result, and all major sports newspapers covering it too.
They covered it because it was the anniversary show, not because Panther lost. While I were in mty, since the montereyans can’t bring up anything soccer related (Tigres is heading to the inferior division and Santos is the Champion), they were throwing the “Panther lost to an unknown fat dude” card all of the time.
No one cared for Villanos before or after, last night, CMLL drew less than 4000, and now they’re even afraid of Corleone jumping ship before the hair match. For all bashing AAA got after AAAMania, CMLL is now in a much worse situation, at least AAA got to milk that Roldan being disfigured thing in the mainstream shows, which lasted more than CMLL’s post anniversary heat (like 2 days).
Yes, CMLL “is now” in a worse situation. I’ll agree. But it has nothing to do with the fact that this Anniversary show received unprecedented media coverage, perhaps more than Rayo vs. Cien or Atlantis vs. Villano. The fact that CMLL could not capitalize on the unprecedented media coverage is sad.
@LLL: CMLL doesn’t make their money, they make it by putting people in the seats. V5 winning hasn’t done that.
@thecubsfan: I agree. The enormous coverage CMLL received has not turned into box office. Villano is not believable as a top heel. CMLL has problems now.
Psicosis II lost to Steve Douglas with 2:1 falls. The GSW never stopped to announce him as the WCW Psicosis, but it was Psicosis II.
They said on TV that the Anniversary is airing next weekend. Not instead of the regular TV though as the usual show will be 3:00 – 4:50 and immediatly afterwards is the Anniversary. Not sure how many matches they intend to air.
Wow, they actually aired a good Momentos! Caligula/Messala’s finisher and then 3 segments from the segunda (Stuka assisted monkey flip dive, Stuka handspring off apron into a headscissors, Metalik’s dive, Flash’s dive, Stuka’s finisher) and then Valiente’s awesome finisher from last week.
FSE had that segunda anyways.
Neither Mr Aguila nor Damian 666 are booked in any show from the ByL update, nor were they mentioned in Gala’s “Carteleras”
RFC got that right, it seems.
FSE had that? They aired an Arena Mexico match?
CUBS! REJOICE!
This could also mean they’ll have the mini’s next week? I think I might cry if FSE finally smartened up and is going to air Arena Mex segundas…
