10/04: Mexico, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/03 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Ovaciones, Aficion]
1) Molotov & Trueno DQ Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Último Dragoncito DQ Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween, Pequeño Warrior
3) Black Warrior, Felino, Olimpico b Alex Koslov, Mictlán, Valiente
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Marco Corelone b Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero
5) Blue Panther, Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero

Bad attendence, which Ovaciones blames on WWE on TV Azteca. I think it’d still be in a post Anniversary hangover, but it may be both.

Tecnicos won the first fall clean, then second fall by DQ when Ultimo fouled Panther. Ultimo challenged him Panther to a mask vs hair match after. Garza got hurt in this match.

That wasn’t specifically agreed to, but Marco and Lizmark did agree to a hair match after Corelone won their latest match. No date was announced. As noted in the comments, Bucanero replaced Dragon Rojo, which seems a bit suspicious with SD! on Azteca and Dragon Rojo showing up as Diamante Negro last weekend.

Though I guess we’d really know if he just showed up as Diamante Negro here, which he did not. And four out of the six guys in the tercera were changed from what had been originally announced, so something else was obviously going on. Valiente landing face first on the apron on Sunday and working both Tuesday and Friday shows (plus who knows how many more) is quite something. Olimpico and Rey Bucanero being added to this show after being on that poll is interesting.

Yesterday, Panico said CMLL was planning to talk to Shocker about coming back in about two weeks. Not sure that’s happening now. Panico also says CMLL plan on more 75th Anniversary celebration shows.

Noroeste says they know who will be the members of D-Generation-Mex: one indepedent guy, and one who’s been in trios in CMLL. Which doesn’t narrow it down at all! Also in the useless AAA info department, they put up a list of AAA stars signing autographs at various car service places. They tell you who, on which day, but they don’t tell you actually when or where these places are. Good luck!

KrisZ’s news update from yesterday is up.

  1. I wonder if the XEJ TV feed is dead for good? Can’t remember watching in more than 3 weeks. Wonder if the mini’s match will squeeze onto TV?

    Last night looks completely dull.

Tuesday’s lineup still looks good even with the changes. Why would CMLL insert Halcon Negro only to replace him? This HAS to be the show where he finally appears.

Next Friday looks just as boring as this week’s show was. Why keep building Corleone/Lizmark Jr. if they both already agreed to the match? With Dos Jr. in the main event I guess things could still be shuffled mid-week with the hair match added.

  2. @Rob: Dos being in the main event is proof that there’s multiple people in charge who don’t necessarily talk to each other. It’s so weird – there can’t be that many people running things.

  3. @thecubsfan: It’s not only the multiple people in charge – it’s also that they are all IDIOTS. We can joke about the dumb booking all we want but the reality is the people in charge are just not very bright human beings. I’m not saying that to be mean, I’m not saying it b/c I hate CMLL, I’m just pointing out an obvious truth.

ElMartinete board says Corleone vs Lizmark Jr. was announced on TV for October 17th. I *really hope* they have a strong semi-main booked.

  4. It’s getting ridiculous and something needs to happen soon or EMLL could be in serious trouble. The WWE boom in Mexico is something that shouldn’t be overlooked and if their TV ratings are what they could be, it could very well warrant them to start their own territory there similar to FCW and OVW back in the day but on a grander scale.

  5. Dear god, i actually decided to endure that womens match for a change. Lets just say my opinion has not been swayed. They are an embarrassment to lucha libre.

You’ll find more athleticism from those bow-legged midgets on your recent youtube vid Rob :D

  6. BOW-LEGGED MIDGETS 4 EVA!!!!!!!!!! At least they were fucking entertaining. Did you see Micro Volador? He was so tubby he actually waddled! WADDLED!!! If Goddess waddled I’d enjoy her work.

I’m actually with Timmy here. I think CMLL’s stupid booking will continue and after giving the BJ of her life over the weekend, Goddess will be given the win over Sujei in the worst match seen in the history of mankind.

Haha, he was probably wider than he was tall.

Would have been funny if they’d given him some sort of duck gimmick :D

  8. Ugh. This has the makings of worst Tuesday show of the year unless Sombra goes nuts in the main event.

  9. Hey Henrik I think La Sombra just found the solution to making La Mascara interesting! As he did his usual tope suicida bullshit dive on Friday, Sombra did a ringpost moonsault! Works for me!:D

  10. @thecubsfan: My guess is atleast 4 people in the booking office, not including Paco Alonso’s special favors to friends who go to see him when they are fed up with programacion.

  11. My thinking is that each “day” has a different matchmaker. As in, the guy that books Tuesday probably isnt the same guy that books Friday, who also probably isnt the same guy who books Sundays. Id assume Guadalahara has a seperate booker, as well as Puebla, etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong on this, but wasnt that how Pena ended up with enough power and influence to start AAA? Wasn’t he the Friday Arena Mexico matchmaker, and he pushed different guys than the other Coliseo/ArMex shows?

  12. There are definitely different people in charge of each day and of course you have local guys in charge of the other places. Like Mascara Magica would run things in Guadalajara but he is “trusted” so they know there is no problem letting him decide outcomes. They don’t have to worry that he will try and push Olimpico by having him beat Mistico or anything of the sort. That’s the main reason why Baby Richard refs all of Mistico’s big matches in buildings CMLL doesn’t own. He’s there to make sure Mistico doesn’t get double crossed and pinned.

Not only are different people in charge of each day but you also have different people in charge of the lower card/upper card/women. For example Satanico will put together the opener/segunda, Feliciano will take care of the women in the tercera and Panico will take care of the top two matches. It’s not ALWAYS like that but you get the idea.

Pena’s deal was different as at the time he was one of the booker along with someone who’s name slips my mind right now (headache). They had a good deal going until they had a split and to satisfy all parties, they took turns booking Friday nights. So you’d have Pena in control one week using the guys he liked to use and the other guy would take the following week using the guys he wanted to use. It never led to strange booking though since they basically had two crews due to their giant roster so you wouldn’t have to keep track of wrestlers doing multiple feuds.

These days the roster isn’t NEARLY as big as it was back then and they still can’t keep track of who is a tecnico, who is a rudo, who is in which stable, who is feuding with who, who is double booked and won’t be showing up, etc.

The word you need to use when describing anything relating to the CMLL booking staff is INCOMPETENCE.

  13. For some reason I am totally marking out over Bucanero’s Canadian Destroyer lungblower deal from Friday!
