10/01: Mexico, Coliseo lineup, links

CMLL
CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 09/30 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
2) Bronco III, Loco Max, Nitro b Flash, Metálico, Sensei
3) Goddess, Lady Apache, Sahori DQ Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
4) Damián 666, Misterioso II, Mr. Águila b Axel, Máximo, Valiente
5) La Sombra, Marco Corelone, Sagrado b Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Sombra replaced Alex. Good to see Valiente is alive.

Goddess snuck a pinfall on Sujei in the first fall, then took it in two after excssive violence. After the match, Goddess and Sujei agreed to a mask match. No date has been specified but ESTO guesses 10/13. You know, I’m pretty sure Sujei’s going to win, and wouldn’t be surprised if Goddess did end up being dropped by CMLL and returning to Canada. However, Sujei’s comments about this feud doens’t do her any favor – either she beats a joke and who cares, or she loses to a joke and looks bad. El Hijo del Santo made this point last week, you’re only as good as the people you beat so ripping your opponents is ripping yourself.

That said, Goddess noting her special ability to demask Canadians is hilarious.

Ovaciones notes Dragon Rojo Jr. in Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre (Notimex writes about the plot) and Tony vs Loco for this Sunday. That reminds me, we need an updated card for Sunday:

CMLL (SUN) 10/05 Arena Coliseo
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco vs Arkangel & Hooligan
2) Fabián el Gitano, Leono, Stuka Jr. vs Ephesto, Vangelis, Virus
3) Grey Shadow, Sagrado, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, Mephisto, Mr. Águila
4) Tony Rivera vs Loco Max [hair]
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla

OFF: Halcon Negro, Satanico, La Sombra
ON: Arkangel, Hooligan, Sagrado

Dr. Wagner Jr. has better thing to do then be Blue Panther’s backup against the Villanos. Dr. Wagner = kind of a jerk.

Lizmark Jr. wants Marco Corelone’s hair.

Juarez may be closing Gimnasio Neri Santos, the local lucha libre arena.

Someone named Abismo Negro is wrestling tonight in Aguacalientes tonight. Then again, they’ve got X-Pac as a rudo so who knows how old this lineup is.

Tiffany is listed as working this Saturday. Then again, again!, they list Charly Manson this weekend, and that’s wrong. Also, no building for that show. Just somewhere, someplace in Mexico City, there will be Crazy Boy. Be on the lookout.

LuchandoLibre has notes, photos and videos from the CMLL Mexico City Museum exhibit. SuperLuchas has the details on how much it costs you to get in ($2US, free on Wednesday and Sundays.)

SoloLuchas writes a profile of Bestia Magnificia, talks about the Morenos as mixed tag champs and gives away tickets to the NWA Mexico show. They’re not the only one, though these are only 5 tickets per site – just enough to get some press for the show.

Wagnermania has Marco/Dos/Mascara vs Pesta Negra and Panther vs Perros. Rey-Del-Martinete @ El Martiente has the ladder/tag title match from Verano de Escandalo. I need to start linking to Lover-Ice’s stuff.

Robert writes about May 2006 Guerreros del Ring

I’m honestly very afraid that one year from now I will not be able to distinguish between ANY of these GdR episodes

  1. Tons of AAA stuff in the new WON.

They are looking at bringing in a bunch of outsiders for the Pena show.

TJ Extreme was let go for being shit.

They are trying to get Black Warrior to jump.

Shelly Martinez has called looking for work.

  2. @Anonymous: I’ve been so busy making fun of the invisible X-Fly, I’ve totally not even noticed TJ Extreme being gone! I guess this explains why this changed from being a trios feud to a tag one.

  3. So does Konnan want to turn AAA into a US indy in Mexico? Of all those guys, El Generico’s the only one they should bring in because he’ll get over with the crowd and he’s awesome. Rest of those guys would get no reaction from the fans.

Good to hear TJ Extreme is gone. In other news, Joe Lider’s still around!:(

  4. So everyone is on the same page, the list Dave has is Ruckus, El Generico, Low Ki, Ricky Marvin and Pac. I think the idea is AAA wants to improve their matches, so they bring in outsiders who they think can work.

Putting aside the “can they work? in AAA?” debate, even if everyone agreed these guys were super workers, that only fixes a couple matches on one show. It doesn’t help the matches on the other 51 shows a year, it’s a drop in the bucket.

This is nothing new from the last few years and really exists only to get WO newsletter buzz. It doesn’t get over with the live crowd and AAA doesn’t market to the US indy DVD crowd who might want this. It’s vanity booking, but there’s been far worse.

If nothing else, I hope they get around to actually introducing Ricky Marvin to the AAA audience. It seems weird to say, because he’s been on TV a few times already this year, but for an audience built on watching the show as a soap opera and not as a sport, this guy who shows up once every three months probably is meaningless to them. Since they seem to be getting him in for more shows, they need to explain who he is and why he’s there.

  5. Charly’s still out with a broken leg, though they’ve had him appear in vignettes a couple times.

  6. Nothing wrong with outsiders. Some will work, others won’t. No booker can be 100% right all the time. I think Evans and Hart are over, and have been a success in AAA. But before bringing in foreign talent for the Pena show, I’d bring in acts from the very first AAA show for the event.

But something more important is happening this weekend-AAA goes to two hours with WWE as a lead in.

  7. I can’t find the exact quote but I know recently Dave mentioned he doesn’t have time to watch the AAA product. Maybe someone else can produce the quote for me. So I question how someone who doesn’t watch the product can have the nerve to say:

“Things are really bad if you’re in AAA and they think your workrate doesn’t measure up.”

Let’s ignore the fact he has been using that comment since late 1996 after Konnan’s boys jumped and just focus on why someone thinks they have the right to shit on a product they haven’t given a second to in over 10 years? Total jackass comment.

AAA isn’t having classics like ROH *snicker* but most of the time… I’d say in at least 70% of the matches per show the effort is there with everyone trying as hard as they can and the matches aren’t even close to as completely unwatchable as a lot of the CMLL weekend stuff is.

Once again, a total jackass comment and it’s strange that Konnan would let that one go since he’s supposed to be one of the voices of the locker room. How awesome can the morale be if you know the main guy on top, who is putting on the most awful matches on the show, thinks everyone below him is talentless and has no problem spreading the word?

  8. Maybe Konnan should start overing Dave incentives. It seems to work out great for ROH.

  9. Funny that old quote comes up now as Fredo just updated and I saw some FSE listings from May and was like “hey that looks like a good match, did I ever see that?” and turns out I did and it wasn’t good.

Sombra in on Tuesday and off on Sunday works for me!

  10. Cheech and Cloudy are just glorified backyarders so they’d at least be perfect for a feud with Joe Lider and Extreme Tiger. DTU fans rejoice!

Ruckus is pretty good though. Either way he’d be another random black guy who means nothing. That’s not racist either since Pac would be another random white guy if he came as well.

I also fail to see the point in bringing in two flippy floppy U.S. indy guys since wouldn’t you want to bring in guys who work a different style so YOUR high flyers can show them up and prove the Mexico style is greater than the style those Americans have?
