09/24: Mexico, Todo x el Todo, Sujei vs Goddess

CMLL
CMLL

CMLL (TUE) 09/23 Arena Mexico [notimex, ESTO]
2) Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei b Goddess, Princesa Blanca, Sahori
3) Pierrothito b Mascarita Dorada [MEX LIGHT, torneo, final]
4) Black Warrior, Olímpico, Rey Bucanero b Grey Shadow, Sagrado, Valiente
5) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

Blue Panther wore a t-shirt saying “Gracias por mis 30 años”, which retirement-ish, but everything else sounds like he’s sticking around. Ovaciones has an extended interview with him about the loss. The articles says Panther’s not retiring, though he’s more vague. Corelone beat Terrible for the win, and Terrible wants a hair match.

Warrior beat Sagrado in the semifinal with the new submission he’s been using a lot of late.

Pierrothito won the title with a modified campana. It still seems like this will just be another title for the minis division, which is awesome and deserves many titles (though maybe a tag one would’ve been better), but seeing as Pierrothito is still the best one to take that name from Pierroth, it’d be funny if they just bumped him up to the normal division as Pierroth Jr. to be proud of.

Sahori replaced Marcela, so it must’ve been overconfidence which led to rudas losing in two falls. Goddess used the ropes to pin Sujei in the second. If you think they’re going with feud there, keep on reading.

SoloLuchas passes on the Did Villano IV wrestle in place of Villano V for the pre-injury part of the mask match rumor, suggesting that the Villano who was in the match had a drink spilled on him while on the floor, and we should be able to see that stain still on V5’s gear in the video if no switch was made.

(Reforma via Jazzo) Princesa Sujei is vowing to end Goddess in CMLL. Sujei says she’s ready to fight Goddess in a mask match, beat her decisively, and send her back to Canada to never return. This doesn’t sound like your usual midcard feud: “There are many talents who would like the chance that is being wasted on her […] I want to destroy her because it does not deserve to be here. There’s no point in allowing her to overshadow to work of fellow luchadoras, who climbed into the ring to offer a good show, so I’m going to wreck her until she returns to her country.” That’s a promo! Sujei states she’s far from the only one who feels this way, and the public agrees.

(Reforma via Jazzo) In response, Goddess says she’s not going to leave, she’s going to stay, get better, and take Sujei’s mask first.

Yea, so we’re getting the mask match. And probably soon.

(Reforma via Jazzo – again!) El Hijo del Santo says the next Todo el X Todo show will be in Feburary 2009. It sounds like Santo thinks there’s too much stuff going on, and then they can center it around the anniversary of El Santo’s passing. Hijo del Santo is back in Spain and London next week.

AAA says X-Pac is starting a new faction called D-Generation-Mex. Way to be derivitaive. Now where do they get a fake HHH, a fake Road Dogg, a fake Billy Gunn and a fake Chyna (wait, don’t answer that one.)

SoloLuchas has a bio of Antonio Pena and looks for credit for Perro Aguayo Jr.’s excellent cornerman job.

Box and CMLL Lucha show today in Merced.

The Luchador Union will honor local wrestler El Llaverito.

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL March 2006 TV

Not worth watching unless you are a jaded CMLL fan that thinks anything Wagner, Parka, Garza and Perrito touch = gold. I feel for those of you who fit that description.

and AAA 02/25/06 TV.

Victor recaps this week’s AAA TV. Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Fuerza Guerrera vs Gallo Tapadio and Sangre Chicana vs La fiera.

  1. I agree with sujei, I don’t quite like goddess. If they can find anyone more fake then chyna then they deserve a medal.

  2. Hey Cubs, and any other Comcast subs, Comcast is making more changes to their Spanish tier, check to see if there’s anything new, like Multimedios, which carries Lucha.

  3. One day my old comments are going to get me in trouble and I’ll have to decide who to blame – you for pointing what I said out or Fredo for posting it in the first place.:)

The V-IV/V-V controversy is fantastic. If only better quality video existed it would be EASY to figure out. I’m considering uploading the match from Jan. ’00 @ Arena Coliseo where V-IV wrestled as Villano III since V-III no-showed and they were in the middle of the big build from Atlantis vs V-III. It’s 100% obvious it isn’t V-III b/c there are no chin scars. I think that would be quite hilarious to see the ByL guys run wild with accusations that if the Villanos did it back then they’d certainly do it this time around.

  4. The theory is that IV worked the first two falls and then ran to the locker for V to came out. Funny thing is that the rumor started right away and even the guys in attendance say there was something odd, V should have been counted out for all it is worth anyways.

Someone will need to post the WCW unmasked clips of IV to compare him to the unmasked Villano from the anniv show.

  5. I agree whit sujei too. I really hate Goddess.
I’ve never seen such terrible luchadora…
I have no idea, why? How? she can fight in “catedral de lucha libre”.

  6. I have a couple of guesses but I’m sure they wouldn’t go over well with people reading this so I ain’t saying nothing.

  7. You mean Rob this is Like a certain other Canadian women’s wrestler having a relationship with a certain Magazine bigwig?

  8. After last Friday, I don’t really think there’s a point questioning about any other decision CMLL takes, who cares about Goddess or Vangelis or whatever.

  9. @xuisaw: You’re still complaining about the way CMLL gave fans their money’s worth by Blue Panther losing his mask? Face it, CMLL got tons of pub, and showed they can have a big name lose at a big show, and they came out looking good.

If we all had been watching live, we would’ve known Villano was not losing because he would not lose that version of his mask, only the classic version that is black.

  10. Don’t make me laugh, they came out looking good by giving away tickets for free and letting people entering the Arena, the 2×1, canceling the PPV the day prior and being far, faaaar from selling the place out? Not to mention the show will probably never air since it was nothing special and they even might have to hide the villano switching (if it happened)

And the black mask is no way the “classic”

  11. I would not have expected Villano to lose his mask with that color on.

Yes, the show did not draw big, but it got tons of publicity, everyone was talking about it all weekend(even here in the US, Mexicans were all talking about it), and CMLL delivered.

I have no clue why the PPV was canceled. Can you imagine what kind of contract CMLL has with SKY/Televisa that they can just cancel a PPV like that? Fucking sad.

  12. Yeah people were talking about it all weekend: How stupid and idiotic it was. I don’t know how that is a good thing.

  13. @Tim: Who was talking about it being stupid? People in the US who never have been, and never will go to Arena Mexico? People who live to define idiotic, and thrive on negativity? Truth is, Panther losing got tons of pub, people know about the match and result, and it put Arena Mexico back on people’s minds.

Panther vs. Atlantis or UG might’ve drawn a little better, and both guys would’ve liked to win such a big mask like Panther. But, Panther losing his mask was not as stupid as Bischoff firing Austin. In other words, no one will look back and shake their heads at Panther losing to Villano.

Also, Panther is clearly in his 50’s.

  14. If Villano V ends up losing his mask at one of the NWA Mexico or Todo X Todo shows to some shmuck like Tinyballs Jr. or Mascara Sacra, then yes – people will shake their heads.

If Villano V loses his mask to someone like Mistico, UG, Averno or Wagner next year at Arena Mexico – we can look back at the Panther loss as SLIGHTLY ACCEPTABLE.

  15. So if it’s getting tons of pub, does this mean Arena Mexico will sell out on Friday? Will more people start going to shows and CMLL won’t have to sell ticktes 2×1 anymore? Is Villano going to start appearing in main events more frequently and feud with Mistico now? Most importantly, Does this make you wanna go back to Arena Mexico now?

  16. Obviously, anyone here would agree I missed out big time not being at Arena Mexico because I’m afraid to fly. Yes, I’d like to go back one day. Been going since 1995. Seen the best and worst of times.

Wrestling is cyclical. I don’t think the publicity will result in immediate ticket sales, just like Mayweather did shit for WWE in ticket/PPV sales. Not all publicity generates immediate ticket sales. But CMLL was all over the news all weekend.

I think 2×1 is here to stay. No big deal.

I have my problems with CMLL too. They really need to elevate younger stars like Sangre Azteca, Purpura, and others. Mistico needs a new opponent too.

Tim, are you going to ROH, or WWE in Orlando?

  17. @Rob: I don’t want to see any of those franchise players win Villanos mask next year. One-on-one would be pointless. Although, Villanos vs. Perros del Mal or UG/Atlantis in a double mask match would really be more interesting.

  18. @Rob: Tinyballs Rob?

Question, whatever happened to Sarah Stock aka Dark Angel?

I have not seen Goddess wrestle so I cannot join in on the “we think she sucks” calls.
