08/12: Dragon/Mictlan confirmed, Bam Bam/Damian on, GDL, Puebla,

As presumed over the weekend, CMLL has officially announced Dragon Rojo Jr. vs Mictlan in a mask match for August 29th. Dragon Rojo is the strong favorite. Oddly, this has been announced in every single outlet except CMLL’s own website. ESTO says the contract signing is today. Ovaciones writes about it today, and mentions they’ll have some announcement about TNA involvement at that show. No mention of any hair match on that show…

…but maybe on another one. After the title change and some challenges, Bam Bam and Pequeno Damian 666 will have a hair match this Sunday in Arena Coliseo. They met in last July 24 in the same match, with Damian losing. He might have a shot this time. Looks like the opening minis tag match has been bumped. Poor Electrico.

5) Rayman & Sagrado b Misterioso II & Mr. Niebla [OCCIDENTE TAG]
6) Alex Koslov, Marco Corelone, Shocker b Olímpico, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Not that I expect Misterioso and Niebla to be western tag team champs, but it’s odd to see Niebla do the job here.

AULL (SAT) 08/09 Arena Lopez Mateos [sololuchas
1) SPace Warrior b Gallito de Oro
2) Belcebu & Sol de Oriente b Balam & Paltino
3) Mr. Potro, Super Panda, Triple X b Fishman Jr., Trauma I, Trauma II

UG got away with a foul on Panther in the main event. Volador replaced Dos Jr.

CMLL will have more legends at the 08/22 show.

– Tauro
– Fishman
– Cien Caras

IWRG just happens to be running a special show the night before

3) Audaz, Dr. Wagner Jr., Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000

If they’re coming to Mexico City, Cien and Audaz are getting two paydays out of it. This is obviously a themed show, and it sounds like they’re going to see if they can allow everyone to wear their masks for the night.

2008 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#850)
Mexico: 08/17
US: 09/06

Why DID I wait? Sololucha has the same exact results as luchalibreaaa, days earlier and all on one page. This is common, I should’ve known better.

In the main event, Konnan replaced Zorro but ended up getting into a fight with a a mystery man in black. (The Black Scorpion?) They ended up going to the back, leaving Kenzo to be submitted by Cuervo & Mesias. Cibernetico, wearing the Joker make up from the Dark Knight and Chessman managed to get along long enough for Cibernetico to chokeslam Mesias for the win.

Black Abyss helped the Vipers win the semifinal, with some mask switching. After the match, Abismo Negro made his big surprise return to save the tecnicos from a post match attack, and promptly got laid out by all 4 Vipers. ALAS. I guess that just goes to prove his point about the unfairness of Abismo vs all the Vipers!

Porky’s big losing streak is over! I think they screwed that up. Guapos, including new member Escorpion Negro (unmasked and hopefully lasting longer than his Viper stint) got DQed for excessive violence. AAA is calling them both Guapos VIP and Metrosexuals.

Morenos were the rudos in this match. On the show that just aired on US TV, they were working this feud as tecnicos (even while teaming with Ayako), so either there’s a turn that’s gotten lost somewhere or no one’s quite sure who’s what.

Order of elimination in Alas de Oro went Gato Eveready, Angel, Super Fly, Ultimo Gladiador, Scoria, Xtreme Tiger, and Teddy Hart. Of course the fans were cheering Aerostar when it came to him and Jack Evans. Aero ended up winning with a “doble mortal” – maybe a 630 senton? Sounds like Jack and Teddy want revenge = more Air Force/Hart Foundation matches!

Mini Kenzo won with a little help from Big Kenzo. Mini Kenzo looks 15, and someone has to know who he actually is.

Next taping: Friday in Mexico City. Yes, lucha libre on Friday in Mexico City.

08/10: IWRG, notes

(SuperLuchas) Dark Angel fractured her right arm Thursday in Aguascalientes. She’s expected to be out a couple months.

IWRG (THU) 08/07 Arena Naucalpan [SuperLuchas #276]
1) Eragon b Avisman
2) Trauma I & Trauma II b Destello & Jack
3) Linda Star & Martha Villalobos b Lady Warrior & Rossy Moreno
4) Ciclon Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Septiembre el Terrorista b Aeroman, Centauro, Fenix
5) Fuerza Guerrera, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Corazón de Barrio, Hator, Multifacético

Zumbido snuck in a foul on Hator. Septiembre pinned Aeroman with the feet on the ropes.

Milenio writes about Rosalio Vera’s photo exhibition. Vera’s CMLL photos will be at Galeria Jose Maria Velasco until September 21st. Talking about the changing styles of lucha libre, the ban on blood (or at least great decrease) is mentioned in passing. It’s credited to sponsors not liking it and wanting to appeal more to families.

SoloLuchas previews Dragon Rojo Jr. vs Mictlan and notes the differences in accomplishments between the two. Rojo is just coming off the Gran Alternativa win. Win or loss, this would be the first meaningful thing Mictlan’s done.

Guerreros del Ring #152 has Hijo del Solitario challenging Santo.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about Satnaico vs Sangre Chicana in ’89

AAA’s uploading photos of the Friday taping – you can see Cibernetico’s attempt at cosplay, the new look of the Guapos and Abismo Negro’s triumphant return. If you’ve read the comments, you know Aero Star won the Alas de Oro (over Jack Evans), Sololuchas has the full results, and I’ll wait to post everything else until I can throw in AAA’s official take tomorrow.

No Accion tonight. Dunno why.

08/09: Mexico, lineups, AAA video

CMLL (FRI) 08/08 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO, superluchas]
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco b Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo b Fabián el Gitano, Metalik, Tony Rivera
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Mictlán b Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. b Heavy Metal, Terrible, Villano V
5) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker

Main and semimain had some intermixing of rudos from the three main groups (Guerreros, Perros and Pesta Negra.) It worked well in the main event, where a combined Pesta Negra/Guerreros team once again defeated the tecnicos. This was a two fall sweep, Niebla again pinning Wagner to end it (with a little help from the ropes) and agian demanding a shot at Wagner’s UWA Heavyweight title.

The Perros/Pesta Negra team didn’t go as well in the semimain. Miscommunication helped the tecnicos win. After the match, Terrible & Villano V turned on Heavy Metal and beat him until the rudos from the main event made the save. This allowed CMLL to have Ultimo Guerrero going after Villano V (tease!) and perhaps we’re on the way to a full Pesta Negra/Guerreros merger.

Once again, Mictlan and Dragon Rojo were ripping masks. They appear close to a mask match.

If I had to put my money on it, I think the current plan is

08/15: Niebla vs Wagner for the UWA Title
08/29: Mictlan vs Dragon Rojo Jr. for masks, one of the Casas brothers in a hair match
sounds like Dragon Rojo confirms his match in Super Luchas this week
09/19: Panther vs Villano V
09/26: Niebla vs Wagner in a mask match

but then, plans change. I’m pretty sure I’m safe on the first one (though I did write that out before checking CMLL’s site.)

CMLL (TUE) 08/12 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Sombra de Plata vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Goddess, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs La Seductora, Medussa, Princesa Sujei
3) Hijo del Faraon, Leono, Máscara Púrpura vs Bronco, Dr. X, Skandalo
4) Axxel, Mictlán, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. vs Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

I think that’s the first Leono match since June. If you’re wondering how we get a main event rudo side of Mephisto, Terrible and Texano Jr., everyone on the Spain tour should be on the way or there by this show.

CMLL (FRI) 08/15 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Trueno vs Calígula, Méssala, Pólvora
2) Lady Apache, Marcela, Sahori vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei

4) Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V

Cibernetico is sad about the breakup of the Hell Brothers. Not sad enough to do his promo in under five minutes, but sad. There’s also a Chessman promo at the end, and they tease Charly Manson getting involved in the title match. He’s got to be at Verano de Escandalo.

08/08: CMLL Press Conference, Mexico

At yesterday’s CMLL press conference, Blue Panther & Villano V signed for a mask match, but were interrupted by Ultimo Guerrero & Atlantis. Do you remember three months ago, when UG decided over breakfast the anniversary main event should be Panther vs Villano vs Atlantis vs Guerrero? Apparently he does, and he wasn’t going to let something silly like a one on one match happen. Panico said he’d have the booking committee think about it, but for right now, it’s just Panther vs Villano.

Villano liked the idea of a four way match (since he can get revenge for his brother.) Panther would rather have a singles match. Ultimo Guerrero thinks that’s because Panther is scared. Atlantis seems to think he’s not on the anniversary show if he’s not in the main event.

This website officially endorses PANTHER vs VILLANO 5 and not the four way match.

Everyone’s saying the anniversary show is September 19th. No one said anything about that August 29th show.

Dos Caras Jr. was at the press conference to talk about the Spain tour. No one wanted to talk about the Spain tour with Dos Caras Jr., they all wanted to know about Dos and WWE. Putting a couple reports together, it sounds like Dos was unhappy the news got out, because it’s caused issues with him and both CMLL and WWE. According to Dos, WWE raised their offer and he’s considering it, but clearly not going anywhere until at least after the Spain tour. The Notimex story seems sure Dos is going, but I don’t know that’s true.

Ovaciones squeezed in a short article about the bit. I know they like running these things on Thursdays so they get mentioned with the usual Friday Arena Mexico previews, but perhaps running an angle the day before the Olympics starts (and everyone’s running their previews instead of second tier sports coverage) is not the way to go.

Luchando Libre also has photos from the press conference, and will be posting video with Dos and Perro today.

Also at the press conference
the new trios champs were presented – that’s why Atlantis and Ultimo Guerrero were there. The best part is Negro not bothering to dress up. They’d like us to call this union Los Guerreros Negros de la Atlantida, but that’s a bit long.
Perro Aguayo Jr. talked about his injury, plus the usual mask/hair challenge to Mistico. Sounds like we’re leaning towards 3 months.

Tonight’s card:

CMLL (FRI) 08/08 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metalik, Tony Rivera vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Mictlán vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Villano V
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Panther & Villano doesn’t feature any Ultimo Guerrero or Atlantis involvement this week. Guerreros and Pesta Negra continue to team up (Negro/Hector issues?) and Dragon/Mictlan keep fighting in the tercera.

There will be a moment of appluase for the recently passed editor of ESTO.

CMLL posted video of all of Tuesday’s action (July 15), Wagner and Perro talking about each other after the Leyenda de Plata, and the Gran Prix.

Meanwhile, AAA tapes in Madero, with a more noteworthy looking taping than usual:
– a new Guapo should debut
– Mini Kenzo Suzuki debuts!
– Alas de Oros ’08. They’ve apparently been running vignittes on TV with Jack talking about how he’s going to win for sure, so he’s finishing second. I think it’s going to be Aerostar, and they might actually preogress Super Fly’s angle sometime during this.

AAA (WED) 08/06 Auditorio Miguel Barragan de San Luis Potosi [El Sol de SL, Miugel.M @ SML]

4) Jack Evans & Teddy Hart b Crazy Boy & Juventud Guerrera
5) Kenzo Suzuki & Pirata Morgan b Cibernetico & El Elegido

The local promoter of the show was getting involved with the rudos and celebrating with the tecnicos after the win. Zorro was still hurt but accompanied the rudos. The newspaper results has slightly different results, but I tend to believe the recap. Jack set up the 630 with a foul. Newspaper article mentions a TV taping coming here in September.

4) Blue Demon Jr. & Rey Misterio Sr. vs El Hijo Del Santo & LA Park

One last Hoy Internet story to build it up. This time, Park says he and Santo probably won’t work well as a team, because they recently got into a locker room brawl in Tijuana and Park thinks he might have broke his right foot in the match, but hasn’t gotten it checked or anything. Also, Rayo de Jalisco tells the story about how the Junior Capos “put him on the brink of death” (!!) and then took his mask (!!!!!!) Intersting that we’ve got a guy who’s nominally in CMLL (V3) and a guy who’s in AAA (Porky) facing off on a Santo show. Villano III’s got away with that before so I’m sure it’ll be fine again.
