2008 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#848)
US: 08/30
Mexico: 08/10

Nothing much notable about the main except Gronda looks more demon like and has furry boots now. Gronda beat Electro for the win, so they seem to want to do something with him (at least for one night.) Konnan and Roldan talked the usual talk before the match – the website says Konnan was “expelled again”, which says all that needs to be about the meaningfulness of these suspension angles so far.

Ultimo Gladiador was hurt by a Teddy Hart move in the semimain. Mexican Powers have lost a lot lately, and those extreme stables (HF2 included) are all drifting aimlessly at the moment. I’d expect they’ll end up in another hardcore match at Verano, but they’ve done zero so far since TripleMania except just random matchups.

Clowns keep on winning, Porky keeps on losing. Clowns are listed as winning 171, so their win streak has massively slowed down. The AAA note says the AAA record is 175 (which they appear to have just made up.) Perhaps they’re now only going to count TV wins, because 175 has to be an angle, not something they get credited for off screen. One would hope this means they’ve got everything between now at Verano booked out, so they know the Circus has exactly four more TV matches before announcing this number.

On the third try, the Morenos finally beat the Apaches. (I think Oriental fouled Apache and faked his own foul instead of just covering.) Based on going 1-1 in direct matchups, the Morenos want (and will get) a title shot. They clearly were going to do this match all along, it just reads as a very strange path to it. Morenos attacked the Apaches after the match, Fabi made the save, and challenged the Morenos to either a Mixed Tag title match of a Reina de Reinas title match. Or maybe both, with a female to be named (Ayako?). This’ll sort itself out soon.

After many months of close battles, Estrellita finally lost to one of her tops via wardrobe malfunction. She borrowed a t-shirt to finish the match.

Mini Charly Manson is the fifth wreslter to win the a first round match up, joining Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Mini Abismo Negro, Octagoncito, and Atomic Boy. That’s 4 tecnicos and 1 rudo, so perhaps Mini Charly will now be reset to the rudo side (at least for one match), and Mini Kenzo Suzuki has a fine shot of winning in their debut. The final of tournament will also take place at Verano de Escandalo – maybe they’ll do a six mini elimination match? We know nothing about this tournament besides these opening matches.

Counting them up, we’ve got 3 or 4 (Heavyweight, Minis, Reina de Reinas and/or Mixed Tag) title matches already planned for Verano de Escandalo.

FWIW, I’m counting just one more taping to be announced between the last one mention on TV (Monterrey, which would air on 09/07) and Verano de Escandalo (which takes place on 09/14 – come to think of it, they could air it live and just do a filler TV show if they wanted to. They probably don’t.)

Perro Jr. will be out three months

This according to CMLL’s Blog – they (the doctors, not the blog) performed surgery on his bicep, so it sounds like it ws a muscle issue rather than a bone one, and will take longer to heal. 3 months means he’ll be gone till November.

Wagner/Niebla on September 276th, right? Perhaps other things before or after, but that’s gotta be the match.

(September 27th is stuck in my head from something else, sorry.)

08/02: Mexico, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 08/01 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, la aficion, ESTO, Ovaciones]
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid b Sombra de Plata & Tigre Blanco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica b Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei
3) Alex Koslov, Mictlán, Valiente b Dragon Rojo, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone DQ Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Místico, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Dr. Wagner Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza [Relevos Increíbles]

Perro Aguayo Jr. fractured his left arm in the main event. It’s said to be at the bicep, and he’s going to be operated on this morning. He would probably miss the Anniversary show if it’s a compound fracture, but no one’s that specific yet.

As the main event finishes were laid out, it did not seem like they were doing a hard sell for Mistico/Perro. Both falls focused on Wagner/Niebla, back to caring about fighting each other again. Wagner got his side DQed for yanking Niebla’s mask in the first fall, and Niebla got away with yanking Wagner’s mask in the second. After the match, Niebla talked about getting a shot at the UWA Heavyweight Title.

Of note, both teams generally played it straight during the match, which meant Mistico & Hector Garza fought. Perro tried to get La Mistica on Mistico, but Mistico broke free and tried to martinete Perro. Hector made the save. After the match, Perro, Wagner and Hector (hard to tell) attacked Mistico.

The undercard matches played out as presumed. Semimain was all about V5/Panther. Villano got his team DQed when he broke Panther’s mask. Panther demanded a mask match after, and Villano 5 accepted. I’d have more faith in this meaning something if they hadn’t been doing about the same thing for months.

Mictlan got a revenge pin on Dragon Rojo Jr. to win that match, while Lady Apache pinned Amapola with the help of the ropes.

Besides the legends presentation, there was a moment of applause for Alfonso Dantes.

CMLL (TUE) 08/05 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Starman vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Bam Bam, Fantasy, Tzuki vs Fire, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Flash, Máscara Púrpura, Metalik vs Bronco III, Loco Max, Nitro
4) Dos Caras Jr., Grey Shadow, La Sombra vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero [CMLL TRIOS]

Dos Caras isn’t off the schedule, and there’s been no news about it today.

CMLL (FRI) 08/08 Arena Mexico
1) Metálico & Tigre Blanco vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Fabián el Gitano, Metalik, Tony Rivera vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo
3) Alex Koslov, Felino, Mictlán vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Ephesto, Misterioso II
4) Blue Panther, Marco Corelone, Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Villano V
5) Dr. Wagner Jr., Héctor Garza, Shocker vs Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Dragon Rojo and Mictlan are matched up again. I wonder if they’ll hold off the UWA Title match until after the Olympics?

CMLL FSE #102 (07/27)

taped 07/13, aired 07/27

The tope seems like the simplest dive, so it’s kinda amazing how many go wrong. Anything you’re rushing thru the ropes, you’re taking a big risk. There have been worse looking impacts than Mini Halloween’s here, but he looked as out of it as any. Match was usually tons of fun from minis otherwise.

When Wagner/Perro did finally hook up, they treated it as big, but I thought they would’ve centered the whole show around it when them (at that time) scheduled to face off in a singles match the following Friday.

Don’t think I haven’t noticed all the bumper Outside The Ring bits are gone. I’m so happy CMLL is running Ras de Lona on CAN52, since all of those features are surely turning up there instead. If only I can get an occasional skit…

08/01: AAA/indy, Mexico

AAA FULL (FRI) 07/18 Auditorio del Siglo 21 Puebla [the gladiatores]
1) La Parkita, Mascarita Divina, Octagoncito b Jerrito Estrada, Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Histeria
2) Estrellita & Fabi Apache b Demoledora & Mari Apache
3) Gran Apache, Intocable, Psycho Clown b Cibernetico, May Flowers, Polvo de Esterllas
4) El Elegido, Fuerza Guerrera, Mil Mascaras b Killer Clown, Mesias, Teddy Hart
5) Chessman, el Hijo Del Anibal, Octagón b Black Panther, Kenzo Suzuki, Konnan
6) Espíritu, Tinieblas Jr., Tinieblas Sr. b Decnnis, Latin Lover, Pimpinela Escarlata

This was the AAA/indy combined show promoted by Tirantes, with random draws determining all teams. Many of the teams are quite random. Sadly, I don’t think this meeting between Mil Mascaras and Teddy Hart was taped.

Latin Lover and Decnnis had issues, and then Decnnis just turned on his team in the main event.

Mil’s side completely dominated the match and didn’t let their opponents do much.

Cibernetico refused to get along with his teammates. Apache/Cibernetico is another match I need to see, and they were said to be good here.

Gladiatores redesign seems to have changed their RSS feeds, BTW. And AAA’s still don’t work right.

Tonight’s show:

CMLL (FRI) 08/01 Arena Mexico
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid vs Sombra de Plata & Tigre Blanco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Luna Mágica vs Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei
3) Alex Koslov, Mictlán, Valiente vs Dragon Rojo, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Villano V
5) Místico, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas vs Dr. Wagner Jr., el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Héctor Garza [Relevos Increíbles]

As you’d expect, no one’s happy with the main event. Perro Jr. hoping Hector and Wagner are professionals is funny. Hector outright suggests he may turn on his teammates and just hang out with Mistico. Notimex calls it a battle of insanity. The middle matches all have feuds or pseudo feuds going on: Panther/V5, Dragon Rojo vs Mictlan, Lady Apache vs Ampaola. It’d be nice if there was an obvious direction to Annivesary after this how.

CMLL never announced the Marco/Lizmark match for Sunday that seemed set up. Right now, it’s Dos, Hector, Marco vs Atlantis, Lizmark, Ultimo, which means you’ve got a lot of possible replacement CMLL Heavyweight champions in the building if they want to do a change.

Ultimo & Rey talked about their TNA appearances with the press. They don’t know who exactly they’re facing, but they (and everyone else) hopes it’s the Motor City Machine Guns so revenge can be had, but I just read those two are in ROH for Friday and Saturday so who knows. Oddly, Ultimo and Rey say these apperances are not part of the generally TNA/CMLL alliance, but TNA specifically wanting these two on those two shows because they were so awesome in the World X Cup. (I think that’s partly spin.) Elsewhere in the article, Perro Jr. still has no interest in TNA but Hector Garza really would like to work there again.

ESTO has a simple obit for Alfonso Dantes.

Gladiator.com.mx seems to be promoting another sponsored show for August 16th @ Arena Mexico. (It’s an energy drink tie in.) Teased main event is Mistico, Marco & Hector vs UG, Averno & Perro Jr., but Mistico should be in China.

BBC Mundo posted photos of luchadoras. Don’t blame me that they start with a photo of Dulce Poly and follow with a photo of Sexi Star. Also, Amapola has huge arms.

Following yesterday’s article that Giant Gonzalez is very sick, today’s article says he’s in “very good health”. So it’s one or the other.

Ex-WWE wrestlers Rikishi, Chris Masters, Rob Conway, Joey Mercury and Trevor Murdoch are working a show in Nuevo Laredo on August 18th. Article thinks they’re still all in the WWE and it’ll be WWE vs Mexico.

Noticias Voz profiles Oaxaca wrestler who made it national, el Monarca.

Ohtanti’s Jacket writes about Satanico vs. Pirata Morgan’s hair match in ’93

A couple lineups

LLF (FRI) 08/01 Arena Femenil de Monterrey

2) Dama de Hierro & La Bandida vs Bombom & Rayito de Luz
3) Angelica & Perla Negra vs ? & ??
4) Danna, Goya, Reina Azteca vs La Chacala, Polly Star, Tsunami

Interestingly, RFC says Danna and Goya are daughters of Brazo de Plata. Maximo is a half brother, Brazo de Plata Jr. is a (full) brother.

CMLL (MON) 08/04 Arena Puebla
1) Black Tiger & King Jaguar vs Espiritu Maligno & Sauron
2) Dark Angel, India Sioux, Luna Mágica vs La Nazi, Medussa, Rosa Negra
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Metalik vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Policeman
4) Alex Koslov, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Último Guerrero

Ovaciones: Dos Jr. & Sicodelico Jr. have signed with WWE

Arturo Rosa Plata writes about it, in a side note to the tonight’s Arena Mexico preview. It sounds like both signed Wednesday to a standard three year deal (which more means the wrestlers can’t redo the deal for that time, but the WWE still can cut them far before the contract ends.) No start date is known, and there’s no mention if they’ll be starting out in WWE’s developmental territories.
